Omg! Lucy usually directs high intensity episodes! 5x22 is gonna be gooood. I hope the arc this season will be good. Don't let us down, writers 😣 I'm sure it will be great, considering Kitty is in there. I just read the original "The Illustrious Client" in which Shinwell and Kitty are introduced. I think Gruner will return, that sick freak. On an unrelated note: Do you think Watson is truly happy? Do you think she was far happier in the initial seasons?
Okay I’ll address your season 5 subjects first…and then you’llhave to endure my JWDB ranting I’m so sorry…
I haven’t read “The Illustrious Client” in so long, I haveno memory of it. I should probably get on that. How similar were the depictionsof Shinwell and Kitty do you think? I’m really curious of anyone’s opinions onhow Elementary compares to the canon, I just haven’t looked at the canon insooooo long.
Oh my god, if Kitty was in an episode that Lucy directed I would die withhappiness. I’m not sure the stars will align so that can happen, but OMG do Ihope.
Can you tell me why you think Gruner will return? Does ithave to do with “The Illustrious Client”? I am super curious as to how Kitty’s return to New York will beexplained. Someone will have had to pull some strings for her. I hope it isn’tMorland… *rolls eyes* His magic fix for Sherlock in 4x01 was frustrating enoughsince the writers had no interest in addressing the ramifications of that. (Orthe ramifications of Sherlock’s relapse but that’s a whole other discussionentirely.) It just screams deus ex machina to me.
The question of Joan’s happiness is a tricky one to answer, because the writers just refuse to address her emotions in the first place. They want us to assume she’s happy, I think, because they refuse to evenquestion if she’s happy or not, not since episode 3x19, the last time hertrauma over Andrew’s death was addressed. Since that episode Joan has beenmagically “fixed” emotionally, indefinitely. Yes, in 5x01 we got a Joan who wasfeeling dissatisfied that she could no longer help people heal like she had asa surgeon. But then as soon as Shinwell’s storyline got going, the writers must’vewanted us to assume he was the single solution to her issue, her emotionaldissatisfaction. Regardless, they chose to never address Joan’s feelings abouther personal ambitions, wants/needs, satisfaction with her life ever again. Forthe next 12 episodes anyway. We have 11 episodes to go, maybe they’ll give us afew more crumbs.
My headcanon has long been that Joan chose to move back intothe brownstone as a way to further bury her trauma over Andrew’s death. Livingwith Sherlock, making her life revolve around the Work rather than the otherway around, was her coping mechanism. Sherlock is least likely to question hercoping mechanisms after the events of 3x19. She’s socially isolated herself, and even though the writers seem to want us to assume (again) that she has ahealthy social life after 3x19, there’s no evidence to point to that (Emily’sbrief appearance in season 4 does notcount). Joan’s dating life was often brought up prior to season 3. Andrewwas her boyfriend from 3x01 to 3x13, then he was killed. Since then, Joan hashad no dating life, no mention of adating life, no discussion of her lack of a dating life. The absence of itsmention suggests its absence altogether. I believe her trauma is the reason forthat, it’s an obvious conclusion to make, but the troubling thing (the beyondfrustrating thing) is the writers willnot address it. Not since 3x19. Has Andrew’s name even been mentioned since3x19? I’m afraid the answer is no.
What makes it so unfair is that Sherlock got a love interestin Fiona, and even though he broke up with Fiona in 5x06, at least his emotions regarding his dating life wereaddressed (with Joan acting as his support like she always is). Gregson gota love interest (and Sherlock gave him f*cking engagement rings for goodnesssake). Marcus got a love interest who’s been featured in two episodes so far. Joan has got nothing. The discrepancy isso obvious it’s disgusting. That’s why beanarie and I are freaking out about5x13. Joan got to show emotions that hadnothing to do with her being a Caregiver to other people. SHE GOT TO BESTRONG AND VULNERABLE AT THE SAME TIME. She got to Emote, she got to becomforted, she got to feel. She gotto be the most important person in the case! I don’t want to think about thelast time that’s happened. Joan isnot treated as a co-lead by the writers, and it’s been obvious for so long it’sjust deplorable.
#message#negativity for ts#jwdb#niharika27#s5 meta#my s5 meta#my jw meta#jw meta#oh i forgot to mention most of s2 was about her stupid contrived 'relationship' with mycroft that we don't give a f*ck about#tho i do remember she was still going on dates in 212...so really it was only after 221 that the show focused on her 'relationship' with him#they never even dated he was just a f*cking creeper i hate him

How will Joan crossing over to the dark side come back to haunt her next season on Elementary? — Kelly She may come to regret making a deal with the devil. “On paper, it would appear Joan’s business with Julio ‘Halcon’ Zelaya is concluded,” EP Rob Doherty says. “He gave her evidence that she was able to use to bring his sister’s killer to justice, but Halcon may not see it the way Joan sees it. He may think she owes him a favor, not the other way around. Gang leaders are funny that way.”
EW
Y’know, of ALL the stories that DIDN’T need following up, it’s this one. You’ve got 13 flipping episodes to get your sh-t back on track.
What we NEED to see:
Joan/Lin finding and dealing with their Dad.
Joan finally getting her damn Mary (or Mark) Morstan.
Three words -- Mori. Freaking. Arty. Dormer is finally available.
Joan leaving Sherlock’s self-absorbed / childish ass and convincing Kitty to move back to NY and teaming up to open their own agency / spinoff.
Instead, here’s what we’ll get: Sherlock has some kind of hematoma from being hit over the head that will be resolved with an off-screen drain / surgery. Then, we get a repeat of the Halcon thing -- you do me a favor or else, with no hint of menace or real danger behind it. That wraps in an episode or less, then it’s back to rich white men committing meaningless, complex murders no one cares about where the motive is money. Everyone will be brought to justice. The end. YAWN.
