it’s interesting how in the alternate sara minisode ending, her thought process isn’t really “if I loved joe more, I could’ve saved him”, the massacre ending she imagined with him is more focused on her guilt for killing everyone else rather than her guilt for not saving him. it’s “if I loved joe more, we would both end up with blood on our hands, that’s why I shouldn’t get too close to people.”

there’s no english translation of joe’s light novel sadly, but I remember reading a summary of it a while back, and joe actually has similar feelings about how escaping with sara would’ve been a bad choice. as he dies, he has a dream about what would happen: ryoko and all his friends would call him a murderer, he would become a cop so he could save people and make up for the people he killed, but the guilt would stay with him for the rest of his life. he hears sara crying, and his last thoughts are that he would do anything to make her stop.

both of them ultimately decide that the guilt of killing everyone else would not have been worth escaping together. they don’t want to be murderers, and they especially don’t want to make each other murderers.

i'm really bored so uh. here have some of my headcanons for the main yttd characters

sara: wears expensive strawberry perfume. probably class president, and one of the, if not the, top student at sonobeno. really likes shortbread. dated ryoko briefly but they ended up just being friends again

shin: he's trying to make it as a twitch streamer. he doesn't have many followers but is actually really good. dropped out of university due to chronic illness making it hard for him to attend. never really bullied at school, but completely ignored (he's so me fr fr)

keiji: has definitely made those weird police officer thirst traps on tiktok (the ones kurtis connor made a video on). megumi had all of them saved to her phone. he now moderates a police rp discord server. bisexual with a lot of internalised homophobia

gin: he's scared of spiders, but will never admit it. he's also eaten bugs before because he saw a cat doing it. has a pet rock and collects little plastic animal figures and pokemon cards. was absolutely obsessed with dinosaurs when he was younger

reko: did ballet as a child. will never admit this and would probably kill anyone who brought it up. was in an idol group as a teenager and still has trauma from the idol industry. burnt out gifted kid

alice: took up knitting as a hobby in prison and always sent reko incredibly lumpy jumpers (it's the thought that counts, it's fine). she never opened the parcels. used gonbee as a name when he socially transitioned in high school, but ended up changing it back to alice. history buff. got top surgery from a friend in uni

nao: her favourite food is creme brulee. works part time at a convenience store to pay for college. went to high school with shin but doesn't remember him. most of her money goes into hair upkeep and scrunchies. has a mishima shrine in her dorm room (her friends want her to go to therapy). has an anxiety disorder

mishima: he has several pet rats, most of which are named after famous artists. still kind of an alcoholic but mostly drinks unhealthy amounts of tea instead. intentionally makes himself look weird (specifically in terms of his hair) because he's slightly more unsettling when he doesn't. in a similar vein, he smells of oil paint because it covers up the smell of cigarette smoke. was homeless as a teenager and has never had a good relationship with his family. owns a copy of the communist manifesto

kai: he doesn't cook tiramisu because it reminds him too much of sei. mr chidouin gave him a 'kiss the cook' apron once, and kai hates it but wears it sometimes anyway to make him happy. has always enjoyed being sara's bodyguard because it gave him a chance to experience a normal childhood. has never given gashu a father's day gift. sometimes has hallucinations of sei

q-taro: was never adopted due to not being japanese, which made him really insecure. always got rejected from the baseball team in middle school, but had a full-on anime training arc before high school and got on the team. still watches the koshien championships every year. got into a pretty good uni on a sports scholarship. goes on holiday to the usa every year. has an incredibly low alcohol tolerance

kanna: has actually kept pudding under her bucket before to hide it from kugie and their parents. her favourite ice cream flavour is vanilla. kind of a theatre kid and especially enjoys six and heathers. almost as good at video games as shin, except minecraft which she is much better at. usually plays minecraft on peaceful mode but is unbeatable at pvp. makes incredibly messed up sims 4 storylines. likes vocaloid music

joe: listens to idol groups sometimes (sara bullies him over it). massive one piece fan and has played danganronpa. has a part time job at an arcade and always helps sara and ryoko cheat at the games. loves ramen. actually a pretty decent cook

ryoko hirose is 17, uses they/she pronouns, is nonbinary polyamorous & a lesbian. tall and lanky. triangles. her accessories are usually silver. dresses in comfortable, loose clothing. lots of blues and greys, they are like a dark academia fairycore kind of girl But make it wintery. If that makes sense?? Best friends with Joe and Sara obviously. i imagine they are like.. a really popular person? Very well known in school, probably on a student council. Would be a teachers pet. i headcanon them and joe WERE dating but was like "i am. a lesbian. Help me?" and joe went "yeah ok i got you IF you help me with sara lol" and fake dated for a little while while ryoko wingmanned for joe. I think the two of them are super good friends and bond over being fans of Samurai Yaiba (ryoko is like reko megafan #1.) they are the moon in their relationship 🌙

kugie kizuchi is 17, uses he/she pronouns, is a transmasc nonbinary lesbian & polyamorous. short and blocky, squares and rectangles. accessories are usually bronze but dabbles in a bit of silver. black, dark, leather clothing, he dresses very punk and techwear. this design is simple but i promise i lean more into the leather jackets and spikey accessories and lots of grungey layers. I headcanon him as kind of .. mean, as a front. Very protective of the ones she loves but doesn't allow those to get close to him; keeps up an icy and distant wall. Other than that she's just kinda perpetually chilling. i think he and ranmaru have a love-hate relationship; they're mean to each other for the joke and most people probably think they hate each other but they're pretty solid pals. I know Kugie is supposed to be like sara (kind, dependable and trustworthy) i think she is dependable and trustworthy but NOT super kind. They're on opposite sides of the personality spectrum. sara is sweet and nice but kugie is blunter and ruder but theyre both still good people. he is the star in their relationship ⭐

One of my fav YTTD ship is Joe and Ryoko, especially because it's almost canon (rip Joe 🙏). My HC is that Joe would always yap to Sara about his dates with Ryoko. He just would be a yapping machine. And I really love the fact that he took Ryoko for a kebab date. This was a perfect date. And I'm sure there would be more kebab dates, if only Midori was sane. 😩🙏

But coming up with another HC (I mentioned kebab only because I'm hungry and it's 2 am when I'm writing this in my notes), I really like to think they would be typical Insta couple. Posting a lot cute of pictures together, playing cardboard games together and with Sara. You know, just normal teenagers who were not traumatised by Asunaro.

Another short HC is for NaoReko. I like to think Nao would be drawing album covers for Reko and her band and going with them for tours. <33

I'm not very creative with HC and my HC usually are so normal. But I guess it's kind of justified when it comes to YTTD. All of the characters suffered enough. 😅

Recently I saw a fanfic idea, made by kirabasai, about Obito from Naruto, who is an extremely unreliable narrator, obsessing over Kakashi, his every thought of Kakashi is very detailed and the reader doesn't know what exactly is happening around Obito, we just mostly know his obsessive thoughts and analysis of Kakashi. And it got me so interested in this that I wish someone actually wrote it. Unfortunately I don't know who would be perfect for this when it comes to writing skills, because I don't know many authors. But I like the thoughts and analysis of badninken here on Tumblr, and their analysis of Obito and Kakashi is always interesting for me to read. So even if I don't know their writing skills, I still think they're perfect for the job as they know a lot about Obito and Kakashi. ✨

Hello fellow yttders!!! Tis i!! The midori connoseuer who drew him once during jeandori takeover.

Under cut is a midori centered (Though The main cast have alot of elaboration on them, too.) yttd bungo stray dogs au me and 3 other people thought on a bit.

I intended to do something bigger with it. But since im working on the midori dating sim. I just cant. So im using this as a sort of hivemind post for anyone to compile ideas for this au!!!

So! Let us start with the *new* ability users and their abilities

Sou 'midori' hiyori:

Ability: "the silence of the lambs"

Affiliation: Armed detective agency. (Early story)

Rats in the house of the dead (later in the story)

This ability, allows anyone with contact to midori to establish a mental connection to, midori. Where they can swap out conciousness, speak telepathically. Or even hear the other persons thoughts and emotions. Midori is the one in control of all of that, though.

Now, as you might have guessed. This *does* have something to do with shin. Specifcally, midori ripped a layed of his skin, sew it into a scarf. Which shin now wears!! Meaning as long as that scarf is on shin. They can swap out conciousnessnesses! Shin is aware of this.

Funfacts: in yttd we see that midori has a very slight hunch. In this au, its due to shins bad posture, blowing his cover whenever he was in midoris body. So after many horribly gone attempts in fixing shins posture, Midori had to compromise.

Midori mostly uses shins conciousness in situations where his "non human way of thinking" would be a hindrance like: when he was passing the ada entrance exam.

Gin ibushi:

The switch is instant. And happens in the blink of an eye.

The name "midori" was given to him by the ada

Ability: "Knuffle kitty"

Affiliation: port mafia

Gins ability, allows any plushie animal, organ, or essentialy 'living tissue' made by gin. To become functional as if it were a living thing. With gins ability, you can easly replace someones organs or limbs as long as theres a surgeon to attach the plushie limbs to the actual host. He can also create poisonous animals to then throw at his enemies. Which is whoever is watching over him most of the time. (Lets face it. Its shin and sou who're getting stuff thrown at them.)

Fun facts: gin was transferred to the port mafia via saras request.

Kyuusaku and gin were buddies before Q witnessed the horrors.

Mori views gin as a sort of "mini yosano" and has a little collection of poisonous insects which gin has made for offensive use.

When dazai first met gin, in chuuyas presence. When gin began speaking in his "woof, meow" s. Dazai pointed at chuuya and said "he talks like you"

Joe tazuna:

Ability: 「トリプルドッグデスバラージ」 (TRIPLE DOG DEATH BARRAGE!) (Sorry i had to)

Affiliation: port mafia

His ability. Is self explanitory.

There are three dogs.

They will death barrage you.

And they regenerate atsushi style.

Funfacts: hes here due to!! Sara!!

He tried to get ryoko (was that her name??? Doner kabab gurl.) Into the port mafia too, but sara said its too dangerous for her.

Sara chidouin:

Ability: "Muses, mad men and prophets."

Affiliation: Port mafia

Her ability is meant for crowd control, and large, quick genocide. Whenever sara kills someone. They manifest as a "hallucination." Of themselves. Which wander around like normal passerbys. She, can swap her location with any of these "hallucinations" . No matter how far.

Hallucinations cannot be contained. And pass through walls. Hallucinations will dissipate after an hour has passed.

Funfacts: she works with kouyou for her training.

She was introduced to the port mafia via her father.

She kicks ass

Reko yabusame:

Ability: "perfect pitch"

Affiliation: port mafia

Juonos hearing. She can detect sound waves. She is all hearing. She detects them snitches.

Funfacts: she came to the port mafia for alice.

She and nao are girlfriends

Tia safalin:

Ability: "Babushka's doll"

Affiliation: none (sort of.) She does freelance work for whatever faction needs her. She has the most expirience working for the special ability division, rats in the house of the dead and the port mafia.

Her ability allows her to create dolls which she can give a portion of her memories to, they will then function as normal people. And can go through with tasks.

Funfacts: i got none

Maple:

YUP!!! MAPLES FINALLY GETTIN SCREEN TIME!!!!

Ability: "The tea party in the woods"

Affiliation: none (because she deserves happiness)

Her ability causes the person shes using her ability on, to expirience a vision in their mind. Which time does not pass in. The vision will display the most comforting envoirment for the person the ability is used on. Maple, can interact with the other person during this vision. And the vision can only be stopped once the host, has drunk a whole cup of tea. This room can be used as a sort of quick therapy room, or somewhere to share confidential information with. Only 3 can enter at a time.

Funfact: she comes to the cafe under the ada very often, and has made great friends with lucy and atsushi. Shes also met midori, but its just a little baby crush.

Now, we get to characters with no ability, and their affiliations.

Alice Yabusame:

Hes part of the port mafia due to reko

Yelling. Alot of it.

Shoved in here by midori so he pays for the attempted murder

Tries his best.

Keiji shinogi:

Affiliation: Armed detective agency.

The wahaha man.

Hes a little like ranpo, in that he has no ability but is very preceptive.

When he joined the ada midori was so panicked he forced shin to interact with him. So now midori has to act like shin whenever keiji is talking to him.

Its not fun.

His arrival at the ada was NOT expected.

He was transferred to the ada from the speacial ability division.

Kanna!!! :

Affiliation: port mafia, because she kicks ass.

She helps out with mais bakery alot since its right below her house.

Shes learned alot from sara. And it shows in her fighting style.

She fights with her FISTS

She likes kyoka alot. Kinda sad shes in the ada, and sneaks to go to the cafe to see kyoka.

During one of these sneaking sessions shin (in midoris body) spotted her. And now shin has to cover for her whenever shes off to see kyoka.

Just. Genuinely a very kind girl

She doesnt deserve to be in the port mafia. And everyone knows that.

She could probably beat chuuya in a fist fight if chuuya didnt use his ability.

Shin tsukimi:

Affiliation: port mafia.

Shoved in here by midori.

Everyone and everything is out to kill him so he has a gun and several knives under his very large coat.

Most of his time is spent yelling at computers because theyre too slow for his liking.

Picks fights with sara over the stupidest little things, which sara wasnt even disagreeing with him on.

The unfortunate person who has to watch over all the children

Koyou scares him.

Higuchi is like the only non intimidating person to him, and exclusively because of how non-decietful she is.

Megumi is a part of the special ability division.

Hayasaka is a member of the port mafia

The satous are part of the port mafia.

Clown girl is leading a normal life as a clown. (But im kinda considering throwing her in rithod and giving her an ability)

Ranmaru joined the port mafia for sara

Miley works with tia. But has ties to the port mafia

Main plot points im experimenting with: (midori exclusive)

Midoris motive from joining the ada being finding fyodor due to more information on "god" and assuming they follow the same god for this.

Midori being found out by dazai/ranpo/keiji , because midori is forced to switch into shins body to save shins ass during an ada raid. (Probably during the cannibalism) because midori isnt skilled enough in combat to hide his combat style. And shin cant fight for shit.

Midori getting his ass beat by keiji due to giving him piss hair and trauma.

Midori and fyodor kiss and make out (aka midori magically manifests in the tower during dead apple because his ability would just...be a copy of shin)

Sara and Kurumada Minisode Thoughts

So I just played both minisodes and have to spout my thoughts somewhere. Spoilers for YTTD below, the new minisodes ofc but also anything up to 2-2 (I’ve played up to 3-1B but only stuff up to 2-2 ended up being relevant to the post really)

I’ll start with Kurumada’s because I have more thoughts on Sara’s than his

I love my boy Kurumada. One of my favorites of the dummies (alongside Mai and Anzu). And getting to see his idol and his journey through boxing was great! Couldn’t find anything lore-wise that was interesting, but loads of great character moments of my guy. Beating up the guy who sent Kuboshi to retirement was so satisfying, and realizing Kurumada was basically shunned from the boxing world now was so sad.

Just a great little story, not much to say.

NOW SARA’S ON THE OTHER HAND

Okay so there are actually two endings to this one: normal and red. I’ll start with the normal end.

First, that opening cutscene of the email between Kai and Sara’s dad. Most of it is text we’ve seen before, but I find it interesting that Kai could tell Sara wants some space from her dad. He decides that’s too much and deletes it, but the fact that he noticed in the first place is interesting nonetheless.

The little minigame was pretty fun imo, but then again I love most of yttd’s minigames. Plus Sara’s different opponents were interesting given we know some of them. Opponents 4-6 are Anzu’s friend from her minisode, Ursheen from Samurai Yaiba, and Shin respectively. Pretty interesting that Sara + Joe and Shin have apparently already met. Although it’s possible that wasn’t actually Shin, as I could see it being Midori in disguise. No way to prove either way, but it’s interesting to think about.

Joe was amazing the whole way through and I love and miss him. And that comment about his dad being dead, and Joe barely having any memories of him (implying Joe was very little when his dad died) makes the “Mr Policeman is Joe’s dad theory” stronger than ever.

As for the normal ending, we got to see Ryoko! Seeing the ever so famous Ryoko x Joe date was very wholesome and I almost cried at the end with Ryoko being worried about Sara and Joe and wondering if she’ll even see them tomorrow.

And then there’s the red ending. Holy shit the red ending. A presumably post Joe’s death Sara wonders if things could’ve been different. She ponders about a world where Joe is voted and he and Sara escape, leaving everyone else to die. It’s reminiscent of the massacre ending (aka lesbians ending), with Sara being horrified and Joe/Nao trying to comfort her. But then we cut back to current Sara who, as it turns out, often worries if she might drag those she’s close to into some sort of darkness. The fact that she has this worry, even if she considers it irrational, makes me wonder. Is it because of Kai that she’s worried (at this point she thinks he’s just a random stalker)? Or does she have a hunch that her family is not as it seems? No way to know yet, but very cool to think about

Wow that was a lot of thoughts. I kinda just rambled but hopefully some of it was interesting lol. Can’t wait to see what others have to say on these in the coming weeks!

A NOTP I have with said character: joesara when. ppl frame it as if he's cheating on ryoko/actually loved sara the whole time.. it's not like him imo :(

A random headcanon: he's a good dancer! his idle animation is him just swaying or generally tapping his feet

General Opinion over said character: JOE WAS MY FIRST FAV... I've certainly lost my intense feelings abt him over time but I still have a lotta fondness for that silly guy :,) joe tazuna u will always be famous

Which one of the currently released yttd mini-episodes is your favorite? Why? (via)

hm-hm... if i'm honest? i would have to say sara's because:

1) it presents the sonobenos' friendship openly. i've always been curious to see how sara balanced her friendships with both of them - on my first playthrough, i was actually under the impression ryoko went to a different high school simply due to the fact that she hadn't yet/sparsely met with joe until their date.

and 2) it fulfills a theoretical that sara's shown to be tortured by, and likely will be until the end -- if there was any possible way to save joe, and if escaping with him would be worth the pain wrought upon others. it's fascinating to see her reaction/reasoning for distancing herself from joe as juxtaposed to kai's. i remember getting to the line of sara referencing darkness within herself almost verbatim for kai's lines in ytts. it's a mindset that's consistently reinforced with mr. chidouin and with personal events that inevitably prop up this intense guilt. seeing sara escape after establishing how quickly she can spiral under this weight is just... so interesting to me, and does really well in establishing how this affects her normal life even before something so devastating.

...well, all that, as well as having a fun minigame :'P

but! i feel as if it may be too predictable to say as much, so i will say that the yabusame's minisode was an immediate favorite upon initial release, and certainly raised much higher above the other three personally.

(i enjoy seeing more of anzu, though it was disappointing to see some notes on her character dismissed; and as for kurumada, but i do find some difficulty with the consistent assertions of aggression (although i realize nankidai does provide reasoning for it + appreciate his mirror to keiji's story); and as for kai's with asunaro's... i enjoyed confirmation kai does confide some tales of asunaro to mr. chidouin, that level of trust, but i feel as though a lot of asunaro's secrecy was lost in this minisode and it'd be better fit for after the base game is finished. i realize i'm someone who tends to feast on subtext, though i do feel that presenting what happened with the satous on a silver platter has somewhat spoiled how people view them + messed with ranger's significance... but i digress. i did still enjoy these ones, after all)

in any case!! similar to the sonobeno's friendship, i've always been curious to see more of how the yabusames used to behave around each other until the murder. it's easy enough to speculate, of course, with fake reko's values, but i remember replaying that one cutscene at the very beginning of 2-2 because it just. completely dug at my heart knowing what became of them.

what i didn't expect, however, was getting to see alice's own feelings toward music - i know in hindsight it should've been expected, due to the nature of their work, but i was pleasantly surprised to see how it actually touched on his feelings of inadequacy by comparison & yet... reko's always been kind in her own way and insisted on teaching him, or inviting him to listen, and valued his input even if it was inaccurate in a technical sense. she was sharing a passion with him, and that's why she was so heartbroken when he willingly cut himself away from it, from her, despite her best efforts to uplift/encourage him to try again.

it's just...!! ahh it confirmed a lot of what i already expected while building upon it and just. enhancing what alice has already divulged of who he assumes reko to be. there's always been a bit of underlying remorse after the bongo scene, but properly getting to see how deep this guilt runs is <3 + the symbolic sense of the drums split in two, but rather than again accepting he's incapable of repairing it, he still tries because this is his - their - last effort ... i don't know. they get to me. i really love thinking about the yabusames.

May 18th was Sara's birthday. You had a reminder on your calendar for it, and you wouldn't have missed it for anything. In your eyes, your girlfriend was perfect and deserved the best on her special day.

You enlisted Joe and ryoko's help to decorate your home while you went on a date with sara to keep her away from the surprise. Sara is really smart, so of course she knew you had some kind of party prepared for her birthday, but she didn't say anything not to ruin the surprise.

After a day filled with doing whatever sara wanted, you invited her to your house, and you two started walking hand in hand.

"Don't mention it, it's your birthday you deserve it"

It was all decorated really nicely with balloons and signs, but of course, the thing that she was most interested in was the table. There was a really huge and tasty looking cake that you ordered from a really famous baker(mai) and had specifically made with Sara's favorite flavors. She also definitely noticed the three gifts on the same table, presumably from her best friends and her partner.

"Wow, this is all for me? I don't know what to say. Thank you so much"

"It's nothing special, you deserve all of this for the amazing friend and person you are"

After saying that sara immediately pulled you into a really passionate kiss, you could feel all the love and gratitude she had for you.

She giggled at you, using her nickname, blew the candles, and cut the cake. After eating it and commenting on how good it was and how much you knew her tastes, it was time for the gifts, Joe and ryoko gave theirs first, and she was incredibly happy receiving them but when you revealed yours she was just so happy her heart could have exploded right there

"A-are you serious?"

You had gifted her a necklace with a purple gemstone the same color as her eyes it looked beautiful, and you were sure it would look even more beautiful on her neck

"H-how much did this cost?"

"Don't worry about it, let's say I didn't take all those part time jobs for nothing"

"Seriously? I-i just don't know what to say, actually I do: I love you so so much"

"And that's all I wanted to hear. Let me help you put it on"

As you did just that Joe and ryoko couldn't help but gush about how cute you looked

" That's so romantic. I wish me and ryoko had half of the romanticism you have for each other"

"True, you look like a married couple already"

"Well, if I wasn't sure before, now I definitely know who I'll marry"

Sara pulled you into another kiss even more passionate than the one before. When she pulled back, she looked at you with the same purple depths that inspired you to pick the necklace and smiled at you so genuinely you fell in love with her all over again.

"I don't know if any words can communicate the sheer adoration and happiness I feel in this moment, but I'll try anyway: I love you way more than you can imagine you make me smile every day and I want nothing more than to make you feel the same happiness I'm feeling now and I will never stop trying. I love you so so much"

After her speech, you could do nothing but embrace her as she did the same, just as you thought she was perfect, she felt the same about you, you were truly perfect for each other.

so! once after school sara seemed kinda down (her mother was in the hospital again—due to chronic illness... she's worried about her) so instead of immediately walking her home, joe tried to cheer her up. so they wander town a bit, end up going into one of those super cheap stores, and theyre just fucking around in the toy section. then they go into the next aisle and joe gets this big bright idea and hes like SARA WHAT IF WE GOT MATCHING BRACELETS... and at this point this story seems kind of lame actually but stay with me here hi. sara starts fuckin laughing and hes like what. what why.

iiit happened to be something like that. and he hadnt thought much of it. and they bought the bracelets anyway (using sara's money, because he only then realized he didnt have his wallet on him) and went home that day to paint over the charms & personalize them <3 BUT since then, before they start dating especially, they'll occasionally break into calling each other stupid lovey dovey petnames whenever theyre mildly teasing each other. they usually do it alone too but sometimes they'll be with someone else (not ryoko theyre both too self aware and aah... cool girl scary) and they just kind of have to stare whenever sara suddenly starts calling joe "love of her life" in her joking tone (that sounds a bit too serious sometimes)

i think ryoko is the resident enabler to sara and joe's silly ideas. she goes along with their weird antics because she thinks it's funny, and sometimes does silly things specifically if either of them mention that it'd make them laugh if someone did do that. the time that she ate that doner kebab whole was part of her grand master plan to make joe laugh. she has not failed any step in her plan once.

she also has crushes on both joe and sara and would be happy dating one or even both of them. she adores her friends so much and while she's usually outwardly calm/chill, she will go to bat for her besties when they need her. she's been described as "scary when angry" not just because she doesn't get angry often, but that she will throw down an ultimatum at whoever the problem is with the most serene tone of voice. you do not want to piss off ryoko.
