Winged Sentinel au: Snippet 5: Datapads
Jetstorm found himself in an endless dim hallway of mist walking around aimlessly and hearing whispers from faceless mechs standing in a straight line against a wall whispering to each other. However, it was loud enough for Jetstorm to hear.
“there no escape “ the faceless mechs whispered to each other union together “there no escape”
Jetstorm dashes into a run, trying to get away from all the faceless mechs, yet their whispers keep growing louder until he spots Jetfire in front of an unmarked grave, and suddenly, his brother turns around with rage on his faceplate.
“why didn't you tell me” screamed Jetfire setting the grave on fire before lunging at Jetstorm in a rage
Jetstorm quickly closed his optics as he felt himself getting pinned down and he was expecting to get punched in the faceplate when suddenly.
FLASH
He opened his optics to find himself safe in his bunk berth: it was only a nightmare, but the fear of his brother turning his back on him, that one day he would find out what he had been hiding from him for cycles still lingered.
In a panic, he quickly scanned the room and saw that Jetfire was already up and ready. Instead of looking angry, Jetfire appeared happy. He was standing to the side of the room, punching the air in excitement while looking at himself in a mirror.
“ This time is going to be different, just know we 're going to fly circles this time,” spoked Jetfire confidently to himself However, his confident smile faded when he spotted tears running down his brother's faceplate from the corner of his optics, and Jetfire quickly ran over to his brother to comfort him.
“Jetstorm, what's wrong? “ cried Jetfire in concern, sitting down on the berth right next to his brother as he put a comforting servo on his shoulder.
Jetstrom didn't want to make his brother worry, especially when he was so excited a few seconds ago, so Jetstorm quickly coughed up a fake laugh, pretending everything was fine.
“N-noting, I just thought of something funny that all,” choked Jetstor,m, forcing a smile on his faceplate while wiping away his tears.
“ that it made you cry?” questioned Jetfire tilling his helm in concern
“Y-yes, it was really funny that all, plus, why does it matter after we have training today, don't we? ” stuttered Jetstorm nervously, jumping out of this berth. “So let's go, a new day, yay!!”
Jetfire was unsure about what was happening with his brother, but he was determined to help him in any way he could, even though he didn't know how.
“You know you can just stay here, and I can go alone; you don't have to train today if you don't want to, “spoke Jetfire softly, hoping this would make his brother feel better.
Jetstorm didn't like the idea of Jetfire going out alone without him by his side. After all, what would Sentinel think? They could get in trouble and be easily scolded for skipping one of the training sessions, or worse, possibly killed by the council for this action with nobody ever caring.
“No, it's fine, let's just…let's go, ok,” Jetstorm sighed, getting up from his berth before leaving the room.
Jetstorm, not knowing what else to do, just followed his brother quietly with a terrible feeling in his spark.
____________________________________________________________________________
Soon, the twins were once again standing on the training grounds. However, there was something different: the buildings were farther away, the ground was flatter, and there was a takeoff platform leading to six tall goalposts for them to fly through and a landing pad.
Jetfire and Jetstorm stared at the new upgrades in awe, making the nightmare Jetstorm had last night almost fade away from his hard drive just nearly although he was still uneasy.
Meanwhile, just like last time, Jazz was with Ironhide, watching from the bleachers while the council watched them from the observation deck. However, Ultra Magnus, Alpha Trion, and Longarms weren't present, leaving Perceptor and the rest of the council to oversee the training.
Sentinel steps in front of the twins ready for today's training session as he pushes a mobile whiteboard in front of two mechs making everyone widen their optics in confusion at what the prime is doing.
“Listen up soldiers. There have been some changes made around here, so be sure to pay close attention,” announced Sentinel. “If you have any questions, save them for the end of the presentation, understand?”
“Yes sir” replied Jetfire and Jetstorm not understanding what going on but going along with it anyway
Jazz’s optics widened behind his shades. “Wait, did he just say a presentation?” he thought to himself, and before he knew it, Sentinel went on a long ramble about flight in perfect detail while writing down notes for the twin to remember on the whiteboard.
This went on for a full hour, with Ironhide falling asleep due to the lack of crashes or explosions. Perceptor looked on slightly annoyed, while Jetfire and Jetstorm listened in closely.
Finally, after what felt like an entire cycle Sentinel was done with his presentation “Now transform and roll- I mean fly out” he shouted out before transforming into his jet mode with Jetfire and Jetstorm following behind.
Sentinel's shouting woke up Ironhide who quickly took out a large bag of popcorn once he realized the show was about to start.
“Oh I can't for part two“ snickered Ironhide tossing the first popcorn in his glossa settings off Sentinel’s nerves immediately
“Don't you have anything better things to do?!” shouted Sentinel over to the laughing orange mech
“Not until four,” chuckled Ironhide, snapping across his knee with glee.
This scrapping low-tier orange mech was getting on Sentinel’s last nerves as he growled under his breath very tempted to throw Ironhide to the edge of Cybertron but he didn't have time to deal with this nonsense he got soldiers to train after all so he headed towards the takeoff platform with the twins behind him before flying off with them into the air.
To his surprise, the information he got from Starscream's yammering seemed to be working. He wasn't constantly crashing against the ground; he was flying properly straight in the air. Sentinel couldn't believe it... he was flying! Ha, he knew this would be easy!"
So, with a smirk, he progressed to fly through each of the goalposts with ease, showing off while doing so, making Ironhide’s jaw drop on the ground while the council looked genuinely impressed with Perceptor writing down notes.
“See now this is what a real bot looks like “ goated Sentinel doing a little barrel roll in the air while laughing a bit.
Before long, he successfully landed down on the landing pad and transformed back to his robot mode, flexing his arms to goat in front of everyone, especially Ironhide.
Jazz wasn't exactly the biggest fan of this whole jet thing, but he got to admit that it was impressive, so he got up to congratulate Sentinel Prime. “Hey, nice going sp” complimented Jazz.
“Well, why thank you, Jazz, I have. You know flying is just as easy as driving; you know you should try it out, “ bragged Sentinel, showing his wings in front of Jazz, making him a bit queasy.
“Thanks but I think I’ll stick to ground for now “ gulped Jazz.
“Well if you say-” Sentinel was suddenly cut off by Ironhide laughing out loud in a mocking tone By the all spark, what that no-good orange mech was laughing at now? That was so funny.
“WHAT ARE YOU EVEN LAUGHING AT” shouted Sentinel as he marched over to the orange nuisance.
“oh, you're missing it; your “soldiers “are wobbling like shaking oil cans “ giggled Ironhide, slapping across his knee again.
Wobbling like shaking old cans? Oh, scrap, Sentinel was so focused on his performance that he hadn't checked on how the twins were doing. he quickly turned around to see Jetstorm and Jetfire just as Ironhide says before wobbling in the air like shaking old cans.
Sure, they were flying through the six goalposts, but it was rough, and the landing was equally as uneasy as a loud screech echo across the training grounds.
Fortunately, Jetstorm wasn't harmed and transformed back to his robot mode just fine; however, Jetfire’s wing was scraped on, causing him to yelp a bit when he transformed back to his robot mode.
“Ow” muttered Jetfire crunching his side while Jetstorm went over to help him stand up properly.
This enrages Sentinel but instead of yelling at the twins for not being careful, he turns his helm to shout at Perceptor.
“Hey I thought you said you made this Jet friendly does this look jet-friendly to you” shouted Sentinel pointing at Jetfire’s scrape “Change this now”
Perceptor simply sighed at Sentinel’s demand yet decided to agree to it anyway.
“Request accepting but first project Safeguard must return to my lab-” The Perceptor was immediately cut off by Sentinel's fake coughing.
“ Remember what we talked about with Ultra Magnus “ sneered Sentinel at the Autobots scientist.
Perceptor sighed again and rolled his optics at the prime before speaking again “All alright fine, “Jetfire and Jetstorm “ you may return to my laboratory if you choose to although you allowed others options aside from me for medical care, and your check-up will no longer require a machine to check for injuries “
With that Perceptor left the observation deck with the rest of the council leaving Jetstorm and Jetfire bewildered: so no more machines? They could choose other options. Was this true or was it just a dream?
Meanwhile, Jazz watched in confusion: when did Sentinel talk with Perceptor and Ultra Magnus? There wasn't enough time yesterday unless..was Sentinel up all night talking with those two instead of sleeping? Oh by the all spark, he hates the implication of that so much.
“Good” smirked Sentinel before shifting his attention towards the twins “Now then get yourself clean up you two, we got more training to do tomorrow “ he progressed and gave Jetfire and Jetstorm a datapad.
Jetfire and Jetstorm looked down at the datapad to find that it was a list of recommended medics in Fort Maximus with a disclaimer at the bottom that simply said “reported if any of these medics show signs of suspicious behavior “
“So no more machines?” questioned Jetstorm pitching himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
“Listen, the one thing you two need to know is that under my command none of my soldiers will twiddle with like they are some kind of cheap circus attractions, understand?” huffed Sentinel puffing up his chest plate “Now go get yourself repaired before I sent Ironhide's disgusting snack out of orbit “
Overhearing what Sentinel planned to do with his popcorn, Ironhide immediately transformed into his vehicle mode and drove away from the training grounds without anybody noticing.
“Yes sir and thank you sir!!” squealed Jetfire before rushing off and disappearing into Fort Maximus
With almost everyone gone Jazz decided this was the perfect time to speak to Sentinel privately about his concerns.
“Hey, sp can we talk for a moment, “ asked Jazz pulling Sentinel to the side.
“Sure just make it quick I got to visit Kaon later today” replied Sentinel placing his servos on his hips.
Jazz's jaw was agape at this, was Sentinel seriously thinking about visiting the former decepticon city does he not know how suspicious that would look especially when he isn't dropping off a prisoner??
“The prison?” Jazz nearby yelped yet managed to keep his cool as he took a deep breath.
“Hey what else knows better about flying than a former con city I'm sure they have a few records that I could borrow for a bit you know “ replied Sentinel
“SP is that really necessary I mean you're already flying in the air, aren't you? So I think you're done “ questioned Jazz.
“oh far from it, I don't know if you noticed.. but huh Jetfire and Jetstorm performance could use some improvement“ coughed Sentinel
Jazz couldn't argue with that after he saw what happened… it wasn't exactly great yet still he had awful feelings that Sentinel was flying a bit too close to danger and the prime needed to be pulled back down.
“Well don't you think you're going too far, I mean interrogating Starscream, changing the whole training grounds into..well this, apparently having late meetings and now you're going to a prison-like When was the last time you slept?” questioned Jazz in concern. ‘i don't think it worth it”
This set off Sentinel immediately since what else was supposed to do: stand there and do nothing as his soldiers were getting trifled with and failing at the one thing that he was supposed to be training them. Sure the whole sleeping thing was a downside but he could work on it right.
“Too far?! Tell me this Jazz, What else I am supposed to do, when only our enemy knows how to fly and not us? “ Sentinel raised his voice as smoke came out of his pipes “It's like if there was a grounded bot not driving properly because the enemy holds that information, It's just ridiculous, and clearly a few things need to be changed around here !”
Jazz paused for a moment he never considered a grounded vehicle to be in a position like Jetfire and Jetstorm…the more he thought about it..it was a bit messed up even still he wasn't a fan of Sentinel staying up at night.
“Well if you say so sp just try to get some sleep tonight ok “sighted Jazz shaking his helm a bit.
“Good, now if you don't mind I got a visit to Knon to attend ” huffed Sentinel before heading to leave.
Jazz was now alone on the training grounds, with only his thoughts to keep him company as he watched the sky turn into a storm of darkness.
_______________________________________________________________________
Longarms and Alpha Trion step inside the academy. It was mostly empty aside from a few storage lockers, and multiple hallways with doors leading to various classrooms and training grounds.
After many meetings with the academy staff, they were able to convince them to allow them to have access to the academy grounds for the day.
“the academy archives should be somewhere down this hall so keep your optics wide open and we signal each other when either of us finds it” muttered the old mech ushering Longarms towards the hallway on the left before passing him a key.
“Wait you don't know which room it is “ questioned Longarms widening his optics in suspicion.
“I don't visit here that often so forgive me if my memory is faulty “. Simply replied Alpha Trion “Now check on the right side while I look on the left”
Longarms still found this weird since couldn't he just get a map so they wouldn't have to check every door it felt rather ineffectual but again arguing with the old mech would only waste time so with a sigh he turned to the right side of the hallway and beginning checking every door.
Scrap this was going to take forever…click after click Longarms took a peek into every room he came across only to find nothing every time until he spotted something that caught his interest.
It wasn't the academy archives; far from it. Instead, it was a simple student quarter with a single berth and a desk to the side. Usually, Longarms would simply pass by a room like this. However, there was something different compared to the other rooms.
He peers inside. Unlike the other quarters, which were all the same, this room seemed to have a tiny memorial—a framed picture of a yellow femme at the end of it. There was something written on the frame of the photo.
Curiosity took over Longarms as he slowly stepped inside the quarters to take a closer look at what was written on the frame.
He squinted his optics at the frame and began reading the written words on the frame which simply say “in the loving memory of Elita one's. “
Hold on.. the femme in the photo looks familiar to Longarms but before he could think of who it reminds him of he heard a familiar old mech voice piped up behind him.
“Ah it has seen you found Sentinel’s little project “
Longarms turned around to find Alpha Trion right behind him, arms crossed, scanning the room as if searching for something.
“ Sentinel did this?” Asked Longarms genuinely interested.
“From what I heard every week after her…unfortunate passing on Acha Seven, he would add something to her memorial despite the funeral already being over for many cycles“ answered Alpha Trion
“...he keeps coming back here even after he graduated, and refusing to let anything change in this room while everyone else moves on..he just stands here frozen in time” continued Alpha Trion with a blank almost unsympathetic look
Longarms may be a spy for the Decepticons but he couldn't help but feel a bit bad for the Autobot's subcommander since it is painful to lose a comrade but this moment of sympathy for the emery won’t stop him from reaching his goal...Right?
“That’s.. tragic “ slipped out Longarm accidentally speaking out his internal thoughts. Scrap what kind of spy was he if he couldn't keep his internal thoughts to himself?
“I supposed it is in a way it is tragic in a way, it almost makes me feel bad for him.. almost “ replied Alpha Trion kneeling over the desk.. wait was he opening the desk of an offline Autobot?
Before Longarms could say anything in protest Alpha Trion successfully opened the drawer of the desk and took out a datapad from it.
This datapad wasn't an official record it was seen as some kind of journal, Longarm immediately connected the dots this was not any old journal..this was Elita One journal.
“If there wasn't more to the story, you weren't there but Optimus claimed the whole accident was his fault however I never believe that since Sentinel never said anything on his part “ Spoked Alpha Trion while his servos worked on hacking into the locked Datapad “and I believe this would confirm my suspicion”.
This made Longarm sick to his spark, sure this would benefit his goal to take Sentinel Prime down but this wasn't like going through official records or flies, this was the journal of an offline Autobot that couldn't even defend herself. He wanted to throw up right then and there when he heard a beep from the datapad, Alpha Trion had successfully opened her journal.
"Ah, we're in," Alpha Trion spoke, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction as he seemed proud of this despicable act.
“I- I don't think we should do this isn't this against protocol” protested Longarms feeling his spark turned upside down
“As far as I am concerned there is no protocol against the council checking other Autobot items especially if there's a suspicion of a ruse” argued Alpha Trion calmly swiping the screen of the datapad to the first page of Elita One's journal.
Longarms wanted to stop this yet at the same time if he did he might never get another chance to get Sentinel out of the way and for Decepticons to take over Cybertron however he couldn't stand the idea of looking through offline bot stuff, it was disgusting even for him.
Scrap he didn't know what to do at all in the situation and he felt like he was about to throw up again when saw Alpha Trion's faceplate turn into a smirk as he swiped the screen of the datapad to the next page.
“I believe we found our evidence,” simply said Alpha Trion before passing the datapad over to Longarms.
Longarms now has only one choice to make either read it and achieve his goals or stick with his morals but failed Lord Megatron who he looked up for so long.
A single choice that would change everything.
