"Believe me, there's plenty of things I'd skip in general," he chuckled. "But for you, specifically? In a heartbeat." Any of these events were a bore to begin with though. And considering how many he'd attended over his lifetime so far, Jasper didn't see how it'd make a difference if he ditched. It wasn't the first time he'd done it, but that involved his teen years more heavily. His knuckles brushed against the skin of her arm. "No, I'm sure they'd be plenty pissed," he said before noting the expression on her face. Reaching for her chin gently, he turned her face towards him. "Hey, you don't need to worry about them. Believe me when I say that you would not be the reason there's bad blood between my parents and I. They already crossed that bridge a long time ago." And yet he was still living under their thumbs in more than one way.
Leilani had always been self-conscious of her home life and this would immediately escalate to an obsessive awareness whenever she entered a relationship. Even though she still had yet to bring Jasper home to meet her family, Leilani had at least made him aware just how opposite their upbringings were. It could be possible to say that they both had toxic parents but the difference in their upbringing was a matter of a couple zeros in their bank accounts. Without him even having to tell her, Leilani knew that his parents did not approve of their relationship which, so long as he was good to her, she wasn’t as concerned about. But there was this unsettling feeling that made her wonder if Jasper was hiding her or even worse, if there was some part of him that was ashamed of her. It was an irritating insecurity of hers but being with someone like Jasper triggered it off without much effort. “You’d skip a fundraiser for me?” She mused, staring ahead and playing with the ends of her hair. “Your parents wouldn’t be pissed at that? I don’t want to come between you and them”
