Your POV
It was now Sunday and today was a chill day. Mr. Jung and I made breakfast together, watched Disney Princesses movies together, we just had actual Daddy-Daughter time, without the kissing a touching, until now. Me and Mr. Jung laughed while we were drinking wine. I was in his hoodie and underwear while he was in sweatpants and a T-Shirt. I leaned closer to him and kissed him on the lips.
“I love you..” I said. “I love you too, Princess.” He replied back with another kiss. He deepened our kiss and pulled each other closer. He took my empty wine glass and threw it on the floor by his bed. He pushed me back onto the sheets and pillows and reached his hands underneath the hoodie, gripping my breasts.
“I want more..” I said. “More of what?” He asked against my neck while kissing it. “Tell Daddy what you want.” He said. “You, I want more of you..I can’t get over yesterday of what happened in the dressing room..” I admit. “Me neither Princess..” He replied. He was about to pull up my hoodie but I stopped him. “I want to please you, Daddy...” I whispered.
I turned him around and made my way down his neck and chest, feeling all over his upper body. I reached to the hem of his sweatpants and pulled them down, making him sprung free. I widened my eyes. It’s been a bit since I gave him a blowjob. He looks so much bigger than what I feel. He ran his fingers through my hair and smirked.
“It’s okay, Princess. If you can take it in your sweet little pussy, you can take all in your mouth.” He said rubbing his thumb over my bottom lip. I stroked him in my hand and licked the tip of his member. He grunted and leaned his head back. I then finally took him in my mouth and stroked the rest of what I couldn’t fit. He pulled my hand away.
“No no, baby. Take it all in your mouth. You can do it..” He mumbled caressing my cheek. I stuck him deeper in my mouth inch by inch. He sighed of pleasure and pushed my head all the way down. I gagged, creating tears in my eyes. “Good girl...good good girl..” he mumbled. He pulled my hair in a ponytail with his fist and thrusted his hips into my mouth. I moaned and moved my hand down to my panties, feeling my wet, dripping heat. Right then, we heard the door slam open...
Tumblr media
Mia POV
I opened the car door and got out of it. I breathed out and walked to the house. “I’ll be back Doyoung.” I said. He nodded and stopped the car. I unlocked the door, expecting my daughter to come up and hug me and my husband to kiss me on the forehead, like he always does. I heard nothing from the both of them. I looked around the house and saw nothing. I voices from upstairs and walked towards them. I heard them coming from me and Jaehyun’s room.
“Good girl...good good girl..” I heard Jaehyun mumble. I then hear gagging sounds and moaning. I opened the door to see..my daughter giving Jaehyun a blowjob while touching herself...my daughter stopped her movements and gasped. “Mommy!” She screamed. She was about to run off until Jaehyun took her by her hand and pulled her back.
“Shh..It’s okay Princess, stay right here beside Daddy.” He said wiping her tears and kissing her forehead. I was at lost for words. My husband is sleeping with my daughter?! “Jaehyun..what the hell..WHAT IS THIS?!” I yelled. He sighed and pulled his pants up. “What does it look like Mia?” He asked me. “That my slut of a daughter is blowing my husband!!” I yelled.
I heard her whimper behind him. “Watch your damn mouth, that’s still your daughter.” He said. “Really? Because this is downright terrible, Jae! HORRIBLE AT THAT! SHE’S ONLY A TEEN!” I yelled. “She’s 19 close to 20, a young adult.” He said. “That doesn’t give you a RIGHT TO HAVE SEX WITH MY DAUGHTER!” I yelled broken. “H-How long have this been going on? Are you even listening to me?!” I yelled as I watched Jae arrange things in the room.
“For about 1 year, going on 2” He bluntly said. My heart broke. “Ever since our engagement, hm?” I asked holding back tears. “Don’t act so damn sad and heartbroken, playing the victim. You had shit going on BEFORE we even got engaged.” He said. I gasped and looked away. Does he know about me and Doyoung? “Stop lying!” I said. He scoffed and turned away from me.
He went over to Y/n and placed a kiss on her cheek. “Are you okay?” He asked her. She nod her head. I looked at her. “You get out of here! Now!” I yelled at her. Jaehyun stopped her, making me look at him with disbelief.
“No, you stay right here.” He said. She looked over at me and back at him. “But mom said-“ “Princess. Listen to Daddy.” He said. She nodded her head and sat down. “You evil little bitch..” I said in disbelief. “Mia. I said, Watch. Your damn. Mouth.” He sternly. “You don’t tell me what to do!” I yelled. He laughed.
“This is my house, you have no choice but to listen to me.” He said. I closed my mouth and scowled at him. He pulled out a folder and placed it on the bed. “We’re you really on a business trip, Mia?” He asked me. “Yes!” I lied. “Hm.” He said. He threw the folder at the front my feet and I picked it up. I opened up the folder and seen that it was me and Doyoung. I widened my eyes and looked at him.
“On a business trip, huh?” He asked. I sighed. “Jaehyun.” “So you lie to me and your daughter to just go and fuck your boss, right?” He asked crossing his arms. “What?” My daughter asked. “Yes. Mommy has been sleeping around behind my back.” He said. He went to the closet and pulled out my bags. They were already packed. “Jae.” I said walking up to him.
“I need you to sign these.” He said. He gave me paperwork and I took them. Divorce papers. I shook my head. “No, Jaehyun no! You can’t do this, please!!” I exclaimed hugging at his body. “Mia get off of me.” He said. I kissed him on his face, crying. “Please Jaehyun! I’ll never mess with him again I promise! Please!” I begged. I kissed him on his lips, putting his hands on my body. “Mia. Y/n is here.” He said. “I don’t care.” I said. “Get the hell off of me. Y/n doesn’t like this and neither do I.” He said pushing me off. I looked at Y/n and back at him.
“You’re really choosing her over me?!” I exclaimed. “You chose my best friend over me.” He said back. I sighed and signed the papers. I handed them to him. He took the papers and put them up. “Leave my house, Mia.” Jaehyun said. “I don’t want to.” I said. He picked up my bags and gave them to me. “Why are you doing this to me?!” I cried. He sighed.
“Because...When I fell in love with you, you met Doyoung as well. I told you I loved you and you lied to me telling me you loved me KNOWING you had your eyes on Doyoung. I saw the messages between you two one night. You broke my heart Mia. And then I seen Y/n, the more pure and sweet version of you. I fell in love with her. I am in love with her. Apart from the sex, she was just like you before you messed with Doyoung.” He explained. Y/n shed tears, shaking her head.
“Why did you marry me huh? Why then?!” I asked. “To be closer the girl I truly love.” He said looking at Y/n. I shedded tears. “Fine...then she can have you...goodbye to the both of you.” I said walking out of the door and downstairs. I heard him comfort her, making my heart ache in pain. I walked down to the car and put my bags in the backseat.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Doyoung asked me. “Jaehyun...is cheating on me..” I said. Doyoung sighed. “Baby, you didn’t need-“ “With my daughter..” I finished, crying. “Oh baby..come here..” Doyoung mumbled and pulled me into a hug. “He then divorced me...” I cried. Doyoung sighed. “I’m glad he did. You’re all mine now. But don’t worry, we’re gonna take everything he’s got.” He said kissing my forehead. I sarcastically chuckled.
“Take what?! Everything is in his name! He owns everything! He paid for the house in full cash, he owns 6-7 companies around this city! 19-20 companies in the entire state! He even owns my daughter’s school. He made every building, untouchable. No one can take it, Doyoung.” I vented. “He is a smart man... but who cares? We’re building our life now. Not in secret. I got you, okay?” Doyoung told me. I nodded and kissed him.
He put his hand on my stomach. “Does he know about the baby?” Doyoung asked me. I shook my head. “No, just us.” I said. He smiled and pulled away from me. “Let’s go home baby..” He said starting the car. I took one last look at the house and never looked back....
Tumblr media
Your POV
Mr Jung came and gave me hug. “Shh..it’s okay.” He mumbled. “Why? She called me a bitch and sl-“ “Shh. Don’t worry about that..you’re all mine now. No more secrets..” He said. “No more?” I asked. “No more..” He replied smiling and kissing me on the lips. “Why would she cheat on you?” I asked.
“Because your mom didn’t know what she wanted.” He said. “But won’t she take the house? The cars?! Where will we stay?!” I panicked. He laughed and got up from the bed. He went to his drawer and pulled out another file. “Read this.” He said giving it to me. I took it and opened the folder, looking at all the papers. I seen too many things that confused me.
“What is this?” I asked. “Everything I own.” He smiled. I then seen my school. I gasped. “You own our school?!” I asked. He nod. “Then....why are you a teacher? You should be in a office!” I exclaimed. He chuckled. “I have to stay undercover so no one really knows me.” He said. I looked at the papers again. “How...so mom can’t touch none of these?!” I asked. “Nothing. Everything belongs to me. No one can touch it but me and you.” He said.
“Me?” I asked. I looked at the papers to see my name on each thing he owned as: Co-owner. I gasped. “Daddy-“ “Jaehyun.” He interrupted. “What?” I asked. “You can call me Jaehyun now. You can still call me Daddy if you’d like to but I won’t mind if you use my actual name.” He said. “Jaehyun...” I whispered. “There’s more. Come with me.” He took me by my hand and led me to the garage.
He opened it and it was a brand new car with a pink bow on top of it. “OH MY GOD!” I gasped running towards it. I smiled at him. “Thank you so much!” He smiled and walked over to me, kissing my lips. He gave me the car keys. “Wait. There’s more than that.” He said. He took me upstairs to my room and I seen everything gone. “What happened to my stuff?!” I asked. He took me back to his closet in his room and I seen my clothes on my side of the closet. “This is our room now..” He mumbled kissing my temple.
“You weren’t kidding, we’re you?” I asked. He shook his head. “You’re mom is gone. We have nothing to hide.” He said. “What about guests and all?” I asked. He sighed. “We’re turning your room into a guest room, you’ll have guests in there.” He said. I nodded my head. I smiled and jumped up on him.
“I thank you so much for this! I really love you...” I said. “Me too, Princess.” He said. I pushed him towards the bed and got on top of him. “I want to thank you..” I said grabbing at his shirt. He smirked and turned me over. “Really?” He asked me, cocking an eyebrow.
Tumblr media
“JAEHYUN! YESSS!” I screamed scratching his back. He hissed and lifted my leg up in the air. He then hit that one spot. “D-Daddy...” I whined. He bit his lip and watched my facial expressions. “You’re close?” He asked me. I nodded vigorously. “Then do it..all you want and let it out.” He whispered.
This wasn’t Daddy, well actually yes, but this is Jaehyun..he was making love to me..The way he locked eyes with me and kissed me. His hips moved so fluently and sharp. His hair pushed back and his chain dangling from his neck. I screamed his name and arched my back off the bed going through my high.
After I came down, I pushed him off of me. “I want to finish what I started earlier..” I pouted. He leaned up against the headboard and smirked. “Come and finish Daddy off then.” He said as he motioned me with his finger. I put him in my mouth, groaning at the feeling. He pushed my head down and whispered out praises. His movements got harsher, then finally finishing when he finished.
He pulled me up and wiped my mouth. He kissed my forehead and put me on his lap. I laid against his chest calming my breathing. He slipped himself back in slowly. I gasped. “J-Jaehyun I can’t take no more..” I mumbled. “Shh. I just put myself in to feel closer to you..” he whispered. I laid my head down on his shoulder as he watched TV and stroked my hair.
I felt my life completed...he was what I wanted and I finally got him..I’m gonna miss my mom and I’ll feel bad for taking her place but he was with me...that’s all that matters. I played with his chain and suddenly felt horny again. I grind my hips against him making him grunt. I move slowly and groaned. He smirked. “You wanna continue in the bathtub?” He asked I nodded, still moving up and down. He picked me up and took me to the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. I love him so much....

A Time Like No Other
Chapter 15
Tumblr media
Misun
“So what brings a beautiful woman like you all the way to South Korea?” Jaehyun asked her as he made sure she was close in his embrace while they were dancing.
Misun gave him a slight smile. “I'm working here now.” She kept it short. She really wasn't trying to catch feelings for yet another idol.
“Elaborate!” He whispered in her ear.
Her body quivered under his breath. “My best friend and I have a YouTube channel that's all about music in general but we tend to talk more about k-music artists, especially the up and coming ones who need more exposure and Ktown Entertainment caught wind of us and wanted to give us a bigger platform to work with. So there ya go!”
He twirled her around and then brought her back into him with his hand on the small of her back. “Looks like I need to check you out more then.”
She could feel her face becoming warm. “The show or me?”
He smirked. “The show but if you let me, I'd like to take you out sometime unless you're already seeing someone of course.”
Misun was becoming uncomfortable. She wasn't sure what her and Shownu were doing and him allowing her to dance with another man made her perspective even more cloudy.
“Misun, are you okay?” Jae asked. He could sense that something was heavy on her mind.
Misun nodded quickly. “Oh yeah. I sometimes zone out, sorry. What were we talking about?”
“I believe I was asking you for a date. Is that okay?” He lifted an eyebrow and stared at her.
Misun swallowed hard. “Yeah of course. . .that's fine. Yeah it shouldn't be a problem.”
The song ended. “Good. Here's my number, log it in and text me so we can set something up.”
Misun nodded with a slight smile on her face. She felt a little bad for her response to Jaehyun but giving that Shownu hasn't officially even took her on a date and he didn't seem to care about another man asking her to dance, she wasn't going to wait around for him if there was nothing to wait for in the first place.
“I guess I better get you back to your friends.” Jaehyun grabbed her softly and led her back over to her friends. “Thank you for the dance.” He kissed the back of her hand softly and bowed to the others and walked away.
Nori couldn't stop her smile. “So how was it?”
Misun looked from Shownu back to Nori. “It was good. Will you come to the restroom with me?” She didn't even give Nori a chance to respond, she simply grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the ball room with her.
Shownu & Jooheon
Shownu was staring off into space.
Jooheon stood in front of him and shook his arm a bit. “You okay, hyung?”
“Yeah, why?”
“You just seem a little out of it. Here, drink this.” Jooheon handed him a beer.
Shownu threw the bottle back and took a swig. “Did she really say that the dance was good or is this a nightmare?”
Jooheon chuckled. “Dude, it was a dance. Not a big deal plus if you didn't want her to go, you should've said that.”
“We leave to go on tour in two days and I can't even control what's happening while I'm here. What if they meet up while I'm gone?” Shownu shook his head.
Jooheon placed his hand on his shoulder. “Don't read more into it than what it is. If you want her, make that plain to her otherwise you shouldn't be worried.”
“I can't expect her to just drop everything for me when we haven't even went on an actual date. It's too soon to make her my girlfriend yet I feel like if I don't put some type of label on this then I'll lose her to that guy!” Shownu was irritated.
Jooheon shrugged. “Just stay present in her life. So what if she sees him, if y'all are meant to be together it will happen on it's own time without you forcing anything.”
“What are you going to do?” Shownu asked him.
“About Nori?” Jooheon cocked one of his eyebrows up.
Shownu nodded.
Jooheon laughed a little. “That woman is mine either way. I don't want her seeing any other guy while I'm gone.”
“You can't dictate who she sees if y'all are not together.”
“We're not together but we're not NOT together either, therefore I need her to be super loyal to me.”
Shownu chuckled. “Well I hope that works out for you.”
Misun & Nori
Misun took a deep breath. “I just needed to get away from them for a moment.”
Nori rubbed her arm. “What's wrong?”
“Let's just say that I may have an upcoming date with Jaehyun. . .” Misun looked away.
Nori's eyes were about to bulge out of their sockets. “WHAT?”
“Don't be mad at me please.”
“No, I'm ecstatic for you. I mean if things don't work out for you and Shownu you have a backup plan, girl!” Nori clapped her hands.
Misun grabbed her hands to stop her. “No, Misun! I'm not using Jaehyun as a backup plan. That's really mean. I just don't want to be close minded on relationships. I'm young and single so I need to do what most young and single women do.”
“But what if you really start liking Jaehyun?” Nori asked in a solemn tone.
Misun giggled. “Then I would just really like him?”
“I mean I know that but what about Shownu?”
Misun shrugged. “I really like Shownu but his words say that he likes me as more than a friend but his actions are proving that I'm dispensable. What guy lets another man dance with the woman that he wants?”
“Yeah, Jooheon asked him the same thing.” Nori revealed.
“And he said?”
“He just said that he couldn't control what you do.” Nori told her. “I know what I wanted him to do in that instance but maybe he felt like telling you no would be the worst of the decisions.”
Misun tucked in her bottom lip. “Well if that's the case, he chose the wrong decision.”
The gala went on for a couple more hours and then the girls were heading back to their apartment. . .alone.
Misun and Nori got out of their gowns and put on something more comfortable. Misun noticed that Nori didn't look too happy. “What's wrong?”
“I guess I just miss Jooheon.” She burst into laughter. “Oh gosh I sounds sprung! Somebody help me.”
“Only God is going to be able to help you when it comes to that man!” Misun replied with laughter.
Both of their phone's pinged at the same time. . .”Get plenty of rest because tomorrow you'll have a day full of adventure. Wear something cool, we'll be out in the sun for a bit :)”
Nori looked up at Misun. “Who was that from?”
Misun shook her shoulders a bit. “Shownu. What about you?”
“Jooheon.” Nori responded and read her message out-loud.
“Mine says the same thing so they must have something up their sleeves.”
Nori squealed and jumped up and down on the couch. “I guess we'll find out tomorrow!”
Next day

The guys informed the ladies to meet them at the Han river around noon.
When they arrived, they searched for awhile. “Where the hell are they?” Nori asked. She was tired of walking around.
“Well this is a big river and a big area so, don't get tired on me just yet.” Misun laughed.
Nori began to smile big. “Look over there!” She pointed.
Tumblr media
Misun grinned when she spotted Shownu. “Damn, he looks good!” She covered her mouth quickly!
Nori giggle and grabbed her hand as she ran over to where Shownu was. “Hey, where's Jooheon?”
Shownu chuckled and pointed out to the water.
Tumblr media
Nori's eyes widened. “He better let me ride on that with him!” She waved in his direction hoping that he'd see her and come over to them. Of course he did.
Jooheon grabbed her quickly and hugged her tightly. “How are you, beautiful?”
Nori's cheeks began to turn pink. “We're good. How about you?” She took a seat on the blanket.
Tumblr media
Jooheon followed suit. “Better now that I'm looking at you.”
Misun picked up a strawberry and took a bite. A bit of the juice dripped down her chin. Shownu quickly wiped it off with his finger. “Thank you.” She covered her face from embarrassment.
Shownu chuckled and pulled her hand down and held it. “Don't do that. You're too beautiful to cover that face.”
“Stop making me blush!” Misun ordered playfully.
Shownu bit his bottom lip. “I can't help it.”
“So, what is all this for?” Misun asked. The gesture was a bit too random.
Jooheon's smile faded away a bit. “Actually we wanted to spend the day with you two because we won't be able to for a while.” He answered quietly.
Nori looked at him quickly. “What's that supposed to mean?”
“Y'all are going on tour aren't you?” Misun questioned.
Shownu nodded. “How'd you know?”
“I just put two and two together.” Misun told him as she stared out at the water.
Shownu turned her face so he could look at her. “It's only two months, okay?”
Misun giggled. “I'm good!”
“Are you really?” Nori asked her.
Misun rolled her eyes a bit. “What do y'all want me to say?”
“The truth.” Shownu answered.
Misun shrugged.
Nori giggled. “Stop acting like you ain't gonna be worried about him while he’s gone! Two months is a long time not to see someone, girl!”
“You want me to say I'm going to miss you?” Misun asked Shownu. She was irritated. She hated showing too much emotion especially when she wasn't even sure where her and Shownu stood with one another.
“If that's the truth, sure!”
Misun exhaled loudly. “Okay I'll miss you. . . a little bit. Happy?”
Shownu smirked and shook his head. “A little bit.”
“Good, now eat and leave me alone!” She said with laughter.

Can the Heat fire up the “Herroics” once again?
Tumblr media
The Miami Heat kept their improbable playoff run rolling Sunday night closing out the Boston Celtics in 6 games with the help of some unexpected performances from the team's young stars. It won’t get any easier for Miami as they will move on to face Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA finals. The Heat's incredible play of late has been sprung by Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. Herro, taking the twitter world by storm last week dropping 37 points on 14 of 21 shooting in game 4 pushing the Heat to a 3-1 lead. Herro, a first round draft pick in 2019, has meshed extremely well with five-time All-Star Jimmy Butler who has given Miami a consistent 20 points a game this season. Tyler Herro and Butler have a great relationship, Herro even said that Jimmy is “Like a brother to me.” Butler even showed up to practice the day after game 4 wearing Herro's Whitnall high school basketball jersey. Bam Adebayo is another reason the Heat have found themselves where they are now as Adebayo was a big part of the Game 6 win having 32 points with 14 rebounds. Eric Spolestra’s squad has also gotten great play from Goran Dragic, Duncan Robinson, and Jae Crowder. It’s not smooth sailing from here though as the young squad will have the tough task of Lebron James and Anthony Davis who have seamlessly rolled through the Western Conference. The Heat know their greatest challenge lies ahead and they seem to be up to the challenge. Jimmy Butler said “If you want to win, you are going to have to go through a LeBron James led team,” previewing what should be an incredible Heat-Lakers series for NBA fans. The Finals will tip-off Wednesday night in what was an unexpected matchup heading into the season and the bubble.

No sex, no babies: S.Korea’s emerging feminists reject marriage - sex and relationships
Tumblr media
No dating, no sex, no marriage and no babies: two South Korean YouTubers who vow to stay single have caused uproar in the east Asian nation as it battles the world’s lowest fertility rate. The duo have gained celebrity status for their SOLOdarity channel - with some 37,000 followers in its first year - where they have compared marriage to slavery for women and criticised the tradition of fathers giving away brides as offensive.“Marriage is the root cause of patriarchy in South Korea,” said Jung Se-young, co-host of the channel’s talk show, which is popular with young women who do not want to wed and become saddled with childcare and domestic chores like their mothers. The pair’s “No Marriage” movement has tapped into burgeoning feminism in South Korea, which saw tens of thousands of women protest in 2018 against a epidemic of voyeurism or “spycam porn” - where victims are secretly filmed urinating or mid-sex.Deemed radical by their critics, the two women in their 30s have faced online bullying for their campaign, sometimes dubbed a “womb protest”, as women’s growing rejection of marriage and motherhood splits South Korean society. On SOLOdarity, Jung and her co-host Baeck Ha-na, an accountant, dish out advice to women on why they should stay single, as well as touching on other feminist topics that challenge South Korean women’s traditional backseat role.“It is about boycotting marriage, men, sex and relationships,” Jung, a teacher, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in an interview in the capital Seoul. Both women said their previous relationships brought them down and they had changed their appearance to please boyfriends - Jung said she even underwent minor plastic surgery.DEMOGRAPHIC CRISISMarriage and childbirth are increasingly divisive topics in South Korea, where United Nations data shows the average woman has just 1.1 children, creating a demographic crisis which threatens to shrink its rapidly ageing population and economy. To reverse this worrying trend, the government has rolled out a slew of costly measures to boost gender equality among its 51 million people, including improving parental leave policies and offering fertility treatment to couples and single women.Single mothers are allowed to register their children using their surname under new measures to reduce the stigma often faced by unmarried women. But traditional views about women and their sexuality are still deeply rooted in the socially conservative country, which ranked 108 out of 153 countries on the World Economic Forum’s 2020 Global Gender Gap Index.Jung and Baeck believe marriage entrenches old-fashioned gender roles, with South Korean women spending four times longer on unpaid care - cleaning, cooking and looking after children or elderly parents - than their husbands, according to U.N. data.“The current government’s initiatives are not designed for women - it is for men,” said Jung. “They need women who can have babies, so the policy will repeat this vicious cycle.”Single young women are calling for greater equality in the workplace. South Korea’s gender wage gap is the highest among advanced countries at 35% in 2017 - more than double the average for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.“With the wage gap, women feel they can’t support themselves when they get old, which is why they naturally want to find a man who they can live with and depend on,” Jung said.Like elsewhere in Asia, the pressure to marry someone of the opposite sex to continue the family blood line is strong in South Korea but recent surveys suggest sentiment is changing.Fewer South Korean women believe they need to marry, with the number falling to 44% in 2018 from 62% in 2008, government figures showed, while the number of people living alone rose sharply, accounting for about one-third of households.Feminism is also gathering pace in other areas. A growing band of young women have given up makeup and cut their hair short to rebel against long-held ideals of beauty in a country with one of the highest rates of plastic surgery per capita.FEMALE SUPREMACYOn the streets of Seoul, men urged South Korean women not to spurn marriage and motherhood, despite the cost of parenting.“It’s good to get married but it is not a must. There is a lot of financial burden that comes with marriage,” said student Kim Jae-hwan, 23, outside one of a rising number of ‘solo dining’ restaurants that have sprung up in the capital.“Women’s rights have become an issue recently because some of them are too radical, they are not seeking gender equality but female supremacy.”Another male student, Shin In-soo, 18, said marriage was an individual choice, but women’s rejection of it was not helping to solve South Korea’s demographic crisis.“Considering the low birth rates and other problems in our society, it will be better for people to marry and have babies,” he said, in the Hongdae area in downtown Seoul that is famous for its student night life and karaoke bars. The two YouTube stars brushed off such criticism, saying women were just reclaiming control over their lives.“If this does affect society, then perhaps the government will look at what women really need,” said Baeck, who sports a short haircut. “The more I dated, the more I felt like I was losing a part of myself.”Other ‘No Marriage’ supporters said they simply did not want to be treated as objects whose sole purpose was to reproduce.“When you get married, it is like you are working for two families and you are made to feel like a baby machine,” said Baek Soo-yeon, a 29-year-old who works in a technology firm.“It is my body, my choice.” (This story has been published from a wire agency feed without modifications to the text.)Follow more stories on Facebook and Twitter Read the full article

DAY6 Reaction: Their S/O has wild curly hair
Request:  BTS reaction to their s/o having big, wild, curly hair? Maybe do the same for Day6 too if it’s not too much to ask? Love ur blog btw ❤️ you should really write a fanfic btw, no pressure im just saying I think it’d be soooooo good 😭❤️
A/N: Okay so this is part 2 to the request I did last week so I hope you all enjoy! Requests should be back open fairly soon but I’ll do my best to keep putting out the ones I have in atm! xx
Jae:
Tumblr media
Jae being the massive dork that he is, would nickname his S/O ‘curly fry’ the moment they started dating and of course, that would be your name in his phone. He loved how much fun your hair was and whenever he stood by your side he’d tug it lightly and watch with fascination as it sprung back into place. Overall your hair would be a source of entertainment for him and as his curly fry would be just another thing he’d love about you.
Sungjin:
Tumblr media
For Sungjin, your hair would be just one of the many things that made you so unique in comparison to the other girls he had met. Before he got to know you properly and realise how special you are that would be one of the things that attracted him to you. After you started seeing each other for a while, he would love playing with it absentmindedly while you cuddled after a long day, his fingers intertwining with it, careful not to tug it.
Young K:
Tumblr media
He would find the way your hair frames your face and rests effortlessly all over your collarbones incredibly sexy. The way the wind caught it and sent it in all kinds of directions would make him weak at the knees and he would have absolutely no shame in curling his fingers in your hair gently and bringing his lips to yours.
Wonpil:
Tumblr media
Wonpil would be so excited to show you off to everyone as your hair made you unlike any other regular girl he had seen. He would try to convince you not to straighten it or do anything to change it as he loved it just as much when you woke up as he did when you were all dolled up to go out. To him you were simply radiant, your hair being a halo upon your head.
Dowoon:
Tumblr media
Dowoon would adore your hair and how untamed it was, reminding him of your personality and how you just seem to light up any room. Your hair to him would simply be the cherry on top of his favourite person, the inspiration behind every song and every beat; the one person who could make his heart pound louder than his drums.

My Idol: Part Sixteen
Tumblr media
My Idol From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My Idol is a South Korean competitive reality dating game show. It currently airs on Wednesday nights on Jae-bummer’s blog. First broadcast in 2016, the show offers the opportunity for a lucky fan to go on seven blind dates with seven idols. The idol plans the date with the show throwing in specific missions to complete during the day. At the end of the initial dates, the show opens up an audience vote to decide what three idols will move on to the second date.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 - Part 12 - Part 13 - Part 14 - Part 15 - Part 16 - Part 17 - Part 18 - Part 19 - Part 20 - Part 21 - Part 22
*DISCLAIMER* All results have been decided through the open My Idol poll and have not been altered in any way.
Six of the seven men beside you began to fidget. You tried to restrain yourself from glancing curiously up toward their faces, but only found the need to look at them become more intense. Most of them glanced forward, avoiding any sort of eye contact with you or each other. You felt a tremendous amount of guilt wash over you as you looked back down to your clammy palms. You knew they’d be sitting on the stage whether you were here or not, vying for the affections of a different girl if the show hadn’t selected you. It was a strange thought to have in a time like this, but it comforted you as your stomach continually tied itself into knot after knot.
“Ah, thank you,” the host whispered as another production assistant handed her another red envelope. “Now Y/N, who do you hope to see written on this card?”
You choked as you turned to face her, your eyes the size of dinner plates. “Are you serious?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” she smiled. “Surely you have a favorite.”
You looked helplessly from her, over to the boys again. The ones who weren’t picking their jaws up from the floor were noticeably annoyed as they shifted in their seats.
“Don’t you think this is hard enough on them?” you sighed, growing angry as the host’s silence persisted, forcing you into saying something.
“Oh dear, I believe you’re quite right,” the host nodded. “Y/N, always considerate of the men who have come to adore her.”
You stopped yourself from rolling your eyes, but apparently couldn’t straighten the expression that had come across your face. You quickly tried to flatten your furrowed brows as you heard Jay and Top snicker, immediately shooting each other dirty looks as the noises slipped from each of their mouths.
“Well without any further wait,” the host smiled, sliding her finger beneath the envelope’s edge. “Our second idol to be moving on to the second date is...
...
...LEE JOOHEON.”
The crowd erupted into applause as you looked up to Jooheon. He clapped, looking around to each man on the stage as if he were waiting for one of them to stand. As the crowd began to quiet, a look of shock crossed his face, his eyes wide as he turned to you and the host.
“I’m sorry, did you say my name?” he asked, glancing back and forth.
“She said your name,” you nodded, a small smile finding it’s way onto your lips. Jooheon gasped as he launched from his chair and hopped over the couch before him. He rushed over to you, tugging you up by your hands, and wrapped his arms tightly around your waist.
“Holy shit! I mean, oh my gosh!” he gasped, lifting your feet from the ground and wiggling.
“Someone’s excited for a second date!” the host gasped, letting an excruciatingly fake laugh escape her.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Jooheon whispered, setting your feet gingerly on the ground again. “Sorry, that was a little much, wasn’t it?”
“Not at all,” you sighed, reaching up and placing your hand lightly on Jooheon’s cheek. His dimples were cavernous as he smiled down at you.
Jooheon nodded, slowly stepping back, but not letting go of your hand until he had to. He bowed shortly to the group of men before finding his place on the couch again. Mingyu patted his shoulder, a wary smile on his lips.
“I can see the tension building,” the host hummed, flipping through her cards. “Jay, how are you feeling right now?”
Jay lifted a brow and sucked his teeth. “Just fucking peachy.”
You winced as the words came from his mouth. In theory, there would be enough time lapse for the production crew to censor anything that would come from Jay’s mouth this evening.
“There is only one second date spot left,” the host continued. “If you could’ve done something different on your first date, what would it have been? Top?”
“Oh please, can I answer this one for him?” Jay cackled, spinning to face his sudden enemy.
Top took a deep breath before efficiently ignoring Jay. “I don’t think I would change anything.”
“Oh come on,” Sehun groaned, turning to his elder. “Not to sound rude to my hyung, but I can’t bite my tongue any longer.”
“Fine,” Top hissed. “I could have handled my words a bit more eloquently in regards to seeing her again.”
“I swear I’m part of a Cirque Du Soleil show right now,” Jay groaned, flopping around on the couch. “With all these damn clowns.”
Jaebum cut a glare at the older man, jutting out his jaw in irritation.
Jay rolled his eyes as he glanced quickly to your exasperated expression. “Alright, they aren’t all clowns.”
You lifted your brows and tilted your head, silently communicating with the impossible man.
“No,” he said, shaking his head at you. “At least one of these dudes is a clown. I’m not going to say who because I ain’t petty like that, but I think we all know-”
“Alright,” the host smiled, flipping through her cards with a new sense of urgency. “Mingyu, you had the last date, do you feel as if that helped or hurt you?”
“Oh, uh...” Mingyu trailed. “I’d like to think it helped me. I was the freshest date in the audience’s eyes.”
“You’re also the youngest of the idols on the show,” the host noted. “How do you think that went over?”
“With Y/N or the audience?” Mingyu grinned. “I don’t think Y/N really cares about age. The audience may have been pleasantly surprised by my maturity and ability to handle myself though.”
“Because aquarium dates scream mature,” Sehun chuckled, shooting a wink at the younger boy.
“Bro, do I have to reiterate? You literally took her to see Lego Batman,” Taehyung gasped, completely exasperated.
“Taehyung,” the host continued, changing her focus. “You have just begun an acting career, earning a noteworthy role in Hwarang. Do you feel like My Idol has helped this newly found interest?”
“I don’t see why it would,” Taehyung nodded innocently. “None of the time I spent with Y/N was acting...”
“But do you feel like it brought you to a wider audience?” the host persisted. “A chance to get cast in new roles?”
“I’m not really concerned,” he muttered, his eyebrows furrowing. “I’m not here for that.”
You sighed and crossed your arms. The longer the host continued to talk, the more flustered and offended the boys became. You knew having all of the men together would be a tense situation, but she definitely wasn’t helping.
“Well that’s comforting,” the host nodded. “Jaebum, now that you know you’re safe, who do you feel will be written in this third envelope?”
JB began to open his mouth, just as Jay opened his. “Ah, sorry, same name,” Jay chuckled. “But to answer, me.”
“What about you JB?” the host questioned, focusing on the original Jaebum she had been addressing.
“I feel like all of the men here are strong contenders,” JB nodded. “All of their dates seemed to catch Y/N’s interest, so it’s hard to say.”
“Quite the diplomat,” the host smiled. “Well, why don’t we find out who secured the last date, shall we?”
A production assistant ran another red envelope onto the stage. You noticed out of the corner of your eye as the host shuffled around some papers and began to open the envelope. You tried to avoid actually looking at her fingers work, your blood pumping loud in your ears.
“I’m so rude,” the host exclaimed, stopping her motions. “Y/N, would you like to do the honors?”
“Absolutely not,” you said, shaking your head quickly. Negative. No way. You were not responsible for this heartbreak.
The host chuckled, causing a ripple of nerves to make it’s way through the group of idols. You looked at each of those remaining carefully, searching their faces before moving on to the next. Kind and innocent Taehyung, biting his lip as he kept his eyes firmly secured on the floor, his large hand nervously tapping on JB’s knee. Blunt, but charming Jay, his arms crossed as he looked up to the ceiling, trying to hide his nerves behind a facade of confidence. Sarcastic and witty Sehun, biting at a nail as he stared intently at his shoes. Gentlemanly and mature Top, his hands calmly resting in his lap, sure of his position. Lastly, young and sweet Mingyu, casually glancing back and forth from Jooheon to Top, his eyes shaking with anxiety.
“The third and final idol...to secure a second date,” the host murmured. “Is...
...
...
KIM TAEHYUNG!”
You simultaneously felt like your heart had been ripped from your chest and sent soaring through the clouds at the same time. You weren’t sure if you wanted to jump for joy or vomit. You felt weak in the knees as tears rapidly sprung to your eyes. You weren’t sure what you were expecting or how you should be feeling, but tried to remain calm and remember to breath. Your neck snapped up, looking to Taehyung as he stood, a triumphant smile on his face. He gave a quick handshake to JB before bowing to the rest of the men. He almost skipped as came to stand before you, wrapping his arms carefully around you and ruffling your hair.
“I made it,” he whispered. “I can’t believe I get to see you again.”
“Me either,” you breathed, glancing over his shoulder and at the remaining men. Sehun nodded, his facial expression remaining unchanged since the decision had been announced. His eyes stared blankly before him as he closed them and reopened them repeatedly. You looked up to Mingyu who nodded as well, a sad smile on his handsome face as he clapped for his friend. Top’s head was tilted as he stared down at you and Taehyung, his expression mixed with mild anger and outright annoyance. Slowly though, that look changed as his eyebrows furrowed and his bottom lip slid out, portraying a sad pout. Jay sat in front of him, his arms remaining crossed as he stuck his tongue behind his teeth and set his jaw, his eyes glossed over with emotion.
You swallowed hard as Taehyung pulled away from you and made his way back to his seat.
“Alright gentleman, I hate to say that four of you are not moving on,” the host nodded grimly. “Sehun, do you have anything you’d like to say?”
His eyes lifted from the floor and made contact with yours. You found your lips forming a smile as his did. “It’s alright,” he nodded. “I’m thankful for the opportunity of being able to meet Y/N and spend some genuine time with her. Thank you to everyone who watched and voted.”
“Jay?” the host asked, wincing as she mentioned his name.
“This is bullshit,” he grumbled, shaking his head and looking into the crowd. “Move on to the next bastard.”
You had almost forgotten to breath as he spoke, obvious hurt in his tone. The host’s eyes were wide as well, her jaw slightly dropping as Jay had spoke. “I...uh...Mingyu?”
“It was fun,” Mingyu nodded, shooting a sad smile your way as well. You tried to compose your expression as you looked up at him. “I’m glad I got to have such fun with such a nice person. Thank you Y/N.”
“Thank you,” you whispered quietly.
“Seunghyun?” the host asked.
“Although I don’t agree with this result, I have to say that I’m not going to pout about it,” Top nodded.
“Oh shut up,” Jay groaned. “Drop the act. We all think this sucks.”
“It does suck,” Top whispered. Jay tilted his head as he was agreed with, shock finding a spot on his face. “But I enjoyed our date and conversation. I don’t regret the experience at all.”
The host nodded, smiling grimly at her cards. “Alright, that’s all- oh, what’s this?”
Your stomach dropped as a member of the crew rushed toward the stage, another red envelope in hand. You felt your back begin to break out in a sweat as she handed the card to you instead of the host. “Mission.”
“M-mission?” you choked looking down to the envelope.
“It looks like Y/N has received a mission card!” the host gasped, your agony causing her apparent joy. “Shall we hear what it says?”
You gulped as you slowly lifted the edge of the envelope and pulled out the familiar parchment that made up the mission cards.
“Participate in your own destiny! Select a fourth man of your choice to go on a second date.”
Your eyes read over the words before you spoke them out loud. You stuttered them out and proceeded to read it silently a few more times and looked up between the host and the men. The four remaining and unchosen idols all looked curious and hopeful as their eyes searched your face, each of them wanting to make eye contact and convey how badly they wanted a second date.
You thought your heart would surely sink to your feet at any moment. Your limbs felt as if they had suddenly changed to lead, surprisingly heavy as they hung from your body. You became aware of your heartbeat, your pulse, your breathing, everything down to the blood pumping in your veins. It all felt cold, numb as you came to the realization. It would be your fault after all. Three of these men would not be selected and the blame would suddenly shift from the Korean viewers to you. All the heartbreak would be your fault, including your own.
You bit your lip as you looked to each of them. Sehun had been the most relaxed upon your departure, noting that even if he didn’t move on, he would still think on you and My Idol positively. Your date had begun awkwardly, but quickly flourished into something you would remember fondly. You had taken the elderly couple’s advice to heart since then and wouldn’t exchange your time with him for anything.
Mingyu’s date remained as the most fresh in your mind, whisking you off to a world of bright colors and marine life. You had always admired the ocean and all of the creatures that lived within it, but admired Mingyu’s smile much more. He had left you feeling at ease for most of the date, keeping your small aquarium bracelet on your wrist since the moment he had tied it there.
Then there was Jay. You couldn’t believe he was even a contender in your thoughts considering how your date had begun. He was persistent and at his core intrinsically kind. He cared ferociously and passionately, and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. He trail blazed through My Idol, creating his own rules as he went.
And lastly there was Seunghyun, the man you had connected with the most. He was easily the most mature and established of the group, his date taking your breath away. Moment after moment had felt surreal. Your head still spun at the thought of everything that happened, but that was really your own inability to handle emotions overshadowing anything he had said.
Four perfectly wonderful men, all willing to accept the strange situation in which you had all landed in together.
“So...Y/N,” the host said slowly. “Who will your fourth position go to?”
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. This was your happiness. This is what you had wanted all along. You wanted to be a part of your own destiny.
And now that you were, you felt like you would vomit.
“I choose...” you said slowly, opening your eyes and looking at each man again. “I choose...
...
...
Jay Park.”

Summer Day. Seoul. 22:00 Hours.
“What’s taking so long Jin hyung? I thought you said you’d have this Metrico affair wrapped up by yesterday?” His tone was menacing but Seok-jin knew that was just his manner of speaking, carefully crafted and blunt, so he took no offense. “It’s a little difficult this time Joon, they seem to have gotten cold feet, and apparently our organisation seems too dicey. I think the business manager saw you in my office the other day, and you know you can be a bit intimidating,”Jin said, his tone wary, prepared for backlash from his boss.
Instead Namjoon laughed, a musical sound that would have been beautiful save for the surroundings, fell from the blonde’s lips. “If they thought I looked intimidating when I was in the office, I wonder what they’ll think if they saw me in the streets?” he chuckled, his playful tone in stark contrast with the dark expression on his face, “Listen hyung, if the deal isn’t done by today, we’ll have a very unhappy customer. The computers he was promised aren’t being delivered and I don’t particularly care for how that customer will choose to exact revenge,” he said, a chill ran down Jin’s spine as he remembered who their customer was. He quickly pulled out his phone to reassure them and to attempt to fastrack the deal “It’s those damn Daegu crooks at it again, trying to poach our clients, scare our suppliers and encroach on territory. I thought you had fixed that problem. Oh hello Mr……” Jin’s voice trailed away, leaving the table to do his job as the public spokesperson for their organisation. Namjoon’s lips curled unpleasantly as his mind drifted to the recent interference the Daegu Syndicate was causing in his business.
The sun had set, leaving behind an inky sky with a splattering of stars and the city had sprung to life. A sea of people had descended from the various office buildings around the financial district, each looking to let go after a stressful work week. You wouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen on this beautiful summer night in the city. The area was respectable, the restaurant nondescript, the population inside it however was anything but. Every cut and pattern of Tom Ford, Chanel and Armani was represented in the sleek business suits that filled the interior of Tegovia, and as such to the untrained eye it would seem that a group of executives had retired to the restaurant to gather, unwind and discuss their various ventures. Taking a closer look would prove the assumption very wrong as you would spot the barely visible outline of a 9mm Glock tucked safely into its custom-made holster, which went surprisingly well with the wearer’s Thom Browne. If you looked a bit to the left, you would see that the remarkably handsome man, who laughed with abandon, wore sunglasses indoors to shield the fresh purple bruise under his eye. If after all this, your eyes did trail to the head of the table, you would marvel at how the man seated there could so nonchalantly pair his Tom Ford threads with the bloody bandages on his knuckles. You would come to the conclusion that this restaurant was not the place to be at the moment, and your conclusion would be correct.
“Hyung, don’t look now but I think Jin hyung has powers to summon the devil or something, guess who just walked in?” Taehyung whispered excitedly to Namjoon, clearly enjoying the new entry to the restaurant. Namjoon turned around slowly and his expression went from disgruntled to shock to impassive in mere seconds. “What are they doing here? They know better than to come into in Seoul, I think Lee Dong-il sunbae’s age is making him more reckless and senile.” Jeongguk hissed, the appearance of their direct competition making even the stoic young one, speak up. “Don’t worry about them, they think stunts like these will rattle us. Come on, let’s go. We must greet our sunbae right? It’s the polite thing to do.” Namjoon said with a smirk as he stood up to walk over.
On the other side of the restaurant, a large of group of men were talking loudly and making a general racket of things until the one with bright orange hair made a shushing noise to bring the attention to himself. Several people objected to this interruption, “Hobi why are you always being a killjoy, let us live a little.”
“Yeah Dancer, stop being an asshole for once.” “You bastards always run your mouths when you have a little drink.” said Hoseok quickly, “The boss has something important to discuss with us today, so for Heaven’s sake, be a little more “professional”. For those who don’t know what the word means, I’ll have Pretty Boy here hand out some dictionaries.” he snickered with a wave towards Jimin “Pretty Boy” Park.
“Yah, hyung, these guys can’t touch you, so they’re going take their anger out on me, please stop putting me in mortal danger.” Jimin said with a look of mock horror on his face. The face he made sent a ripple of laughter throughout the group. A loud “ahem” from the dark corner of the table brought the laughter to an abrupt stop and Min Yoongi aka Suga (named for his prowess in the white powder trade than his sweet disposition) spoke in his lazy drawl, “I think Papa wants to say a few things to you all. So if you’re done being children, shut the fuck up and…..” the end of his sentence trailed off as he saw Namjoon and his boys approach their area.
“Hello sunbae, it’s wonderful to see you again after so long, didn’t think I would see you in these parts after what happened the last time.” Namjoon said in his sickly sweet tone laced with menace.
“Aah, still the same I see Namjoon, brash and inexperienced.” the boss said in his booming baritone for the entire restaurant to hear. This cause Jeongguk aka JK to spring forward between Namjoon and the Dong-il only to have Jin appear out of nowhere to pull him back into the safety of their numbers. Just as Namjoon was about to retaliate, the little bell above the restaurant door rang announcing the new entry to the setting. If the knuckle bandages looked out of place on the Tom Ford suit, this new entrant looked outright outlandish.
A young woman, looking hardly older than 25 made her way towards the gathered men. Namjoon and his boys had a confused look on their face until they saw her walk over to Dong-il and slide in next to him at his booth. A bored look graced her rosy face as she looked away from the menacing gang of men in front of her to give a small nod to Suga who turned his face away at the gesture.
“Oh, I think you haven’t met Y/N yet, have you Namjoon boy. This is Y/N, my woman. Y/N, this is Kim Namjoon, our, aah, friendly competition.” The woman turned to look at Namjoon with empty eyes, muttered a quick hello and dropped her eyes to focus on her hands in her lap. “Well Namjoon, I don’t think you’ve ever had the privilege of having pure love in your life, have you? With a face like that, I don’t think you would’ve gotten the opportunity. Then again, if you didn’t have a face like that, no one would call you Monster would they?.” Dong-il said smugly, proud of his jab at the younger man.
At his comment, Jin finally let go off JK to let him do some damage before Namjoon’s commanding voice stopped him, “Well sunbae, I’m happy for you. Please consider this a wedding present, I am going to let you and your men leave this restaurant alive, and in return you never bring your dirty paws to Seoul again. Deal?”
“Hey Monster, if you’ve got such a big problem with us expanding our horizons, why don’t you go ahead and try to stop us, big man? You’re all talk.” spat Jae-hyun, the oldest of Dong-il’s bodyguards.
“Hyung-nim, I think if anything’s expanding it’s your waistline. What’s the matter, your mother feeding you too much?” joked Taehyung, never missing the chance to rib someone for his own amusement.
“At least I know which gutter my mother crawled out of you, you bastard.” Jae-hyun hissed knowing that this statement would hit a sore spot for their opponents. He was proven right when JK’s flying fist made contact with his jaw and he collapsed to the ground.
Immediately the entire group surrounding the fallen soldier was on their feet, thirsting for blood. Hoseok began advancing towards JK when Papa’s voice came out ringing loud and clear in the din. “Monster! Haven’t you taught your little boys anything? Where’s the decorum?!”
“You’re right Dong-il, sunbae. JK youre not supposed to punch a senior like that. I’ve taught you better. This - is how you’re supposed to do it.” he punctuated his sentence with a powerful blow to the closest Daegu muscleman he could reach.
All bets were off as both groups entangled in a series of physical altercation, blows swinging left and right. In the midst of the violence, someone pulled out a pistol and a shot rang through the restaurant. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back as guns were drawn from each side and the trigger happy men were more than ecstatic to get involved.
Bullets rained from each side of the dispute, and bodies quickly started piling on the ground. In the midst of this chaos, Papa, who was being shielded by Suga, urged him to join the offence as he was their best shot. Reluctantly Suga left Papa’s side to lend a helping hand to Hoseok who was currently attempting to provide cover for Pretty Boy Park against JK’s erratic bullet spraying.
Y/N, the girl with the rosy cheeks and dead eyes sat motionless, the bullets flying around not affecting her at all, this was her life after all. Suddenly something clicked in her and she sprang to life, eyes shining for the first time that night. She stood up provide cover to Papa’s body. Several shots rung out behind her, one she thought was surely going to pierce through her, surprisingly the pain didn’t come, instead she found a tall body slumping over hers and she collapsed with the combined weight.
There was a bullet meant for her. A bullet that Namjoon, no Monster, had taken.
Had he been hit by accident or did he purposely step between her and the bullet? The questions clouded her mind as she held the bleeding blonde in her arms, the scarlet liquid staining through the thin material of her dress.
When Namjoon’s limp form came into their view, JK and Taehyung’s rage consumed them whole and they retaliated by pumping several shots into Papa’s body seated in the dark corner of the booth. His bullet riddled body slumped to the side of booth and the man looked pathetically small in death.
A deafening roar rose from Yoongi as he ran with his gun cocked, to put an end to the men responsible for hurting the boss. The only father figure Yoongi had.
The sound of distant police sirens put a temporary end to the skirmish in the restaurant as the men rushed to grab their injured colleagues and escape from the venue, lest they risk getting caught. As JK and Taehyung bent down to pick up the prone form of their leader from the woman’s lap, his lips began to whisper something weakly, “the…girl….take….the…..girl”. “Hyung, what are you saying, we have to get you to safety before the cops are here.” Taehyung said, the panic seeping deep into his voice.
“Take…the…girl…with….you….now!” his voice came out in gasps but somehow was as commanding as before.
Seokjin took command of the situation saying, “Listen boys, if Namjoon says to bring the girl, we bring her. End of story. The two of you take him to the car and call Dr. Ahn on the way. I’ll bring the girl.”
“Ok, whatever you say. Quick JK, grab his other arm, be careful, I think the bullet’s still in him.” Taehyung motioned towards the leader’s limp arm as JK began to move to lift up Namjoon to get him to safety.
While Taehyung and JK rushed Namjoon to their car, Jin helped the still shaken woman, Y/N, to the back door of the restaurant where his car and driver were waiting. “I wonder why Namjoon took the risk of secreting you away from the Daegu boys. I hope he thought it through.” Jin murmured to himself as helped you into his car.
The sounds of gunshots still rang in your ear as the car sped through the streets of Seoul.
What fresh hell would tomorrow bring?

Killer Stalker | KS oc Fanfic
**Hah, a beautiful idea sprung into my head and now I decided to write it… Story takes place before Sangwoo discovers Yoonbum**
**Also since I’m on my phone and don’t know how to bold/italicize stuff, apologies if Seoyun’s thoughts aren’t clear**
(I'll add a cut soon, once I reach a laptop)
Chapter One | You’re Satan
Blood seeped through her fingers in pools of crimson and splattered on her rounded cheeks, missing her devilish smile by inches.
Stab after stab, after stab.
“You’re satan,” the man before her sputtered, the metallic liquid gushing out of his mouth.
Seoyun kept the insane smile on her face as she continued to stab the man, his strangled sobs were inaudible in her ears. She let her mind guide the knife repeatedly into his chest, stabbing him violently with each turn.
Seoyun enjoyed the sound of piercing skin.
“Learn not to force yourself on young girls,” She wiped her face with her sleeve, not caring whether she spread it further on her pale skin. Her tight grip released the knife, and Seoyun watched it clatter to the ground, splattering blood all over the tiles.
She let herself catch her breath, her chest rising and falling in rhythmic patterns. The knife had left marks on Seoyun’s fingers from gripping it too tight, but Seoyun couldn’t care less. It hurt like hell, but there were other things on her clouded mind.
Her gaze averted to the man, who was dead and probably going to decay if she didn’t clean up right away. Seoyun glanced up at the clock placed above her. She had about enough time to dispose of him.
“So dirty,” Seoyun hummed, and she got up onto her bare feet, the knife back in her hand. “So, so dirty.”
—-
“You’re late Seoyun,” Jae-eun pinched Seoyun’s ear, her eyebrows narrowed into a ‘v’. Some days Seoyun wanted to erase her drawn-on eyebrows to understand she wasn’t as idiotic she depicted her as.
Why do I still hang out with her?
“Apologies, but there was traffic,” Seoyun pushed off her hand, and walked ahead of Jae-eun to their already occupied booth.
“You have many excuses, how could you live with yourself?” Seoyun shrugged, the skin between her brows wrinkled.
Shut up, shut up.
Seoyun approached the table, and looked over all the people sitting there. They all seemed to be the regulars Jae-eun invites, all except for the boy with the light brown hair.
“Who’s he?” Seoyun nodded her head at the intruder to her bubble.
“Oh, that’s Sangwoo,” Jae-eun rolled her eyes, “My brother insisted he came.”
“Sangwoo,” Seoyun tested his name on her lips.
Seoyun pulled up a chair in front of the overflowing booth of her college friends, and sat herself down like the boss of a coporation. Eyes instantly glued themselves to her, staring at Seoyun as if she never really belonged.
“Always late Yunyun,” Sung-min teased, his breath infiltrating her nostrils. She expected that out of a drunkard like him.
Seoyun let out a dry chuckle, compensating Sung-min’s taste for horrible jokes. She let her head hang so only her eyebrows were visible. Looking at all the fun they were having was boring. She never understood why her colleagues enjoyed drinking as much as studying.
It wasn’t long until all of them were too drunk to function.
“Look at me Seoyun! Hotness!” Sung-min drawled, a intoxicated smirk on his face. Seoyun brushed off their attitudes. She only withstood their stupidity for the company.
“You look bored,” Seoyun jerked her head up at the voice that called her. It was Sangwoo, and fortunately, he wasn’t drunk. He didn’t even reek of any alcohol.
“You’re satan!”
Seoyun snapped the bothersome voice out of her head. Suddenly, a dull throb irritated the side of her skull. She grimaced, but she didn’t want anyone to worry. Seoyun gripped the edge of her chair tightly to ward off the pain.
“How come you don’t drink too?” Sangwoo asked, completely pushing aside his previous question. Seoyun looked up at him, her lips pressed into a tight line. She didn’t have the chance to look at him too closely, but this Sangwoo was actually good-looking than the other people she stumbled upon.
“I hate the taste,” Seoyun replied, hoping her icy voice would repel him away. She wasn’t interested in whatever intentions he had.
“I don’t prefer drinking,” Sangwoo answered without given a question. She raised an eyebrow at him.
“What’s your name?” Seoyun was a bit shocked she asked a question, but Sangwoo didn’t seem to care. She had noticed a lazy smile had set on his face, and his black eyes stared hardly at her like she was some transparent object.
“Oh Sangwoo,” He said, his mouth seemingly not moving.
“Rhee Seo-yun,” She responded back politely, studying him. Sangwoo was still unmoving, a kind smile somehow plastered onto his lips.
Seoyun brushed away her black bangs, and turned her attention back to the glass of water in front of her. She didn’t completely trust the people who gave it to her, so she just played with the limp straw, swirling it in slow circles.
Seoyun wanted Sangwoo to leave, but he didn’t. If only her head didn’t hurt, Seoyun would be dealing with him like she usually dealt with boys.
She patiently waited for the lingering pain in her head to dull, and soon the voice was gone. Seoyun could finally focus on the scene at hand.
“If you want something, I got nothing. Jae-eun will likely offer you more,” Seoyun met Sangwoo’s eyes, her words escaping her mouth tonelessly. Though she was quite surprised at Sangwoo’s change of expression. His eyebrows raised and eyes narrowed down to match a frown that immediately replaced his smile.
“Why sacrifice a friend to a man you barely know?” Sangwoo’s voice was low enough for only Seoyun’s ears. Her gaze flickered over to Jae-eun, who was drunk out of her mind. She was straddling one of her classmates and drinking nonexistent drops from her glass. Seoyun nearly threw up in her mouth for the disgusting show she was putting on.
“I couldn’t care less,” Seoyun whispered in an undertone. She turned away from Sangwoo and watched Jae-eun party crazily. Her insides twisted as she looked at Jae-eun, but the knot unravelled and fell into the pit.
“Hm,” She could hear Sangwoo get up.
“You’re satan,” His lips curled into a devious grin. Sangwoo’s footsteps faded as he walked away.
Seoyun’s eyes widened and the throbbing in her head returned strongly, pounding away at the bone. The voice repeatedly banged at her brain obnoxiously. Seoyun’s small fists folded tightly into a white ball.
What did he say?

Congratulations, Tyler! You’ve been accepted for the role of Jae-Sung Park. Please make sure to check our checklist, and you have twenty-four hours to send us your character’s blog. We’re really happy to have you in our family!
We could tell by your headcanons and the reasons why you chose Jae-Sung that you’d do a great job with him. You understand that there's a balance inside of himself about his human times and the struggles of being a vampire for so long to the point he doesn't want to life, he just survives. For us, this is the defining reasons for who he is and how he looks at everything in the world. It's deep, dark, and we love it!
Introduction

I should be able to come online at least once a day for an hour or two depending on my work and school schedule. I am currently doing a teaching program online, so I should be able to come online/stalk the dash when I am procrastinating. Otherwise, I will most likely be online in the evenings and then hours throughout the day during the weekend.

IC INFORMATION
Desired character:
Jae-Sung Park
Faceclaim:
N/A
Why did you choose this character?
What initially drew me to Jae-Sung is the fact that his humanity is turned off and the life he had lived through since being turned into a vampire. There is definitely two different sides to Jae-Sung, but he’s kept one side of himself locked away after shutting off his humanity. What made me interested about his character through that aspect was the different subtleties that could be portrayed to show off his character. He isn’t a full person and while he seems kind and reserved, there’s just something off about him. Through the century that he has been alive, he has learned how to hide the extreme emotions that make you human, preferring to stay in a neutral state, a simple and safe state. Emotions of happiness, anger, sadness, or anything more than necessary to survive is too much of a reminder of everything he has lost and everything he questions and doubts about himself. I think for him to want to turn back on his humanity, he would need to find something or someone worth living for again, because right now he’s simply surviving day by day rather than experiencing life anymore. But now with a war looming in the future, it would be interesting to see how he would react to seeing that in a place he’s considered home for the past decade.
Para sample:
Jae-Sung woke with a start. Bolting up, he clutched his chest, the rapid beat of his heart reverberating in his rib cage.
“So-Young!” The words fell from his lips as he whipped his gaze around in search of her, but she was long gone. Memories of last night sprung to mind in waves. Memories that were too difficult to process, but were all he could think about. He continued to look around him in the hopes of catching a glimpse of her coming back to him. A pang echoed through him. So much had gone wrong and he hadn’t been able to do anything about it.
It was then his gaze landed on the note beside him, and a bowl of red liquid. The moment his eyes landed on the bowl, something shifted inside of him. His breath became shallow, the quick beating of his heart seemingly slowing down to a loud, single echo, and everything in his vision seemed to blur and focus all at once to the bowl of red liquid. Blood. The smell of metallic filled the air. Somewhere in his head was screaming What is happening to me? but it was pushed aside for the blood that was calling out to him.
He swallowed hard, too afraid to reach out for the bowl, but unable to look away from it. It took all his strength to pull his gaze from it and look at the letter beside it. Something in him went still as he glimpsed the handwriting on it.
So-Young.
The blood was momentarily forgotten as his attention fell to the letter. Jae-Sung tore through it, his eyes scanning for an explanation, a reason, a location to find her, but he wasn’t given any of those things.
Dear Jae-Sung,
I think you know what I have done to you. I can’t apologize because I’m not sorry. I was given a chance to have a better life and now you do too. You can either die the son of a fisherman or live like me.
So-Young
Jae-Sung’s eyes stung with the appearance of tears and he crumbled the note in his hand. A choice? His sister had not given him a choice, but a death sentence. Choose to die or live as something not human. It wasn’t a choice at all.
Anger swelled in him all over again. His last interaction with his sister playing through his head on loop. The betrayal. The rage. The disgust. The fear. The pinch of pain before it all went dark. Every emotion hit him tenfold, and all he could do was bury his face in his hands. So-Young… So-Young, how could you have done this to me? To our family?
The thought of his family made him realize what he’d be giving up he decided to die. He imagined his father and mother finding him dead, and then finding So-Young gone without a trace. His parents would be losing two children that day if he chose to die. But if he decided to live… No. If he lived, what would he be living as? Was that a life worth living? His gaze slid back to the blood…
Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes.
Yes.
His hands reached out to the bowl. The liquid sloshed in the bowl as he lifted it towards him, a tremble forming in his hands as he made his decision. Forgive me, he said, saying a silent prayer to no one in particular.
And then he drank.
EXTRA
Personality traits:
Positive: Protective, Curious, Sentimental
Negative: Reserved, Melancholic, Strong-willed
Headcanons:
1.  He isn’t close to people for a reason. After a century of wars and death and loss, it is too hard for him to want to make genuine connections with others. When he had his humanity turned on, Jae-Sung had such a huge heart and wanted to give the best to people, especially those he cared about, but after losing so much he has shied away from opening his heart up like that. Even with his humanity turned off, he still can’t help but take an interest in certain people, but he is more subtle in his ways of checking up on others. In fact, unless you knew what to look for in his mannerisms, you wouldn’t realize he cares about anyone at all.
2. He has a box of keepsakes from his former life as a human. He has a comb his mother had, a few fishing hooks from his father, and a ribbon that once belonged to his sister. To anyone who saw it, it would look like nothing more than garbage, but it’s all he has left to remember his family by, so he keeps it hidden and safe so nothing bad could happen to it.
3. There is a deep sadness to Jae-Sung that he keeps hidden and locked away. Whenever he gets that distant look in his eyes, it tends to be because he’s looking at the past. With his humanity turned off, thinking about the past doesn’t bring up as many negative feelings as it does now. He can look back at his past now with objectivity and instead plays back all the moments he wishes he could have changed.
4. For a long time he used to see his sister and every girl he saw. After he first turned into a vampire, Jae-Sung spent the better half of the century searching for her, and hoping to find traces of her in every place he went. It wasn’t until he settled on the island that he paused his search for her, but it still hasn’t stopped him from seeing traces of her in certain people around the island.
5. On his first full moon ever as a vampire, he wasn’t prepared and ended up killing a small neighboring village. He doesn’t have concrete memories of the night, but he can remember the screams, and that has haunted him ever since. Every since that night, he really tried to learn to control his thirst, but it took him more than a few decades to really control it without it getting the best of him. He has prided himself for not shedding anymore blood since then.
6. Jae-Sung has tried to keep up with the times, but he’s sometimes very nonchalant about the modern world. He doesn’t have a cellphone, but does have a laptop at home. He enjoys reading up on the news of the world today, and will sometimes partakes in learning about the new slang and trends. Most of the time he find it ridiculous (emoticons, dating apps), but a few things are amusing (today’s fashion, technological advances).
7. For a long time, Jae-Sung felt anger towards So-Young and the choices she made and forced him into making. He chose to live as a monster because of her, to see her again, but anger had consumed him so much that it wasn’t until much later that he realized that if he had ever found So-Young, he wasn’t sure what he would’ve done to her if he had. There is relief and sadness in him now that he hasn’t found So-Young.

Strawberry Summer by Melissa Brayden Read: April 2017 Rating: 3.48 Stars
Just like the most recent Jae book, Falling Hard I believe it was/is titled, there is nothing specifically 'wrong' with the latest offering from either author. There just wasn't anything specifically special about either. And I kind of expect special from Brayden and special from Jae. It's unfair of me, I know, but . . . that's one of those risks that occur when you read an author enough to put them into a 'must read' category. One positive - the book kept veering into directions where I just knew I'd be annoyed - that traps would be sprung, clichés would be expressed, but the book kept from going that extra annoying step. So kept from springing the traps and clichés of other books. This book here stars Maggie who is was and always will be a lesbian – even her family knew that (though Maggie herself hadn’t gotten around to telling them). She ends up entangled with another woman and they have something of a relationship. Nothing of Courtney’s view is seen, though, just Maggie’s. One of the vaguely cliché parts is the part where Courtney, reminiscent of a Gun Brooke book, has a dick of a rich father and a either almost not there mother, or a not-interfering with dick father mother (though, to be fair to Brooke, one of her books does have the ‘dick’ parent be the mother). But then some of the steps I expected to have happen . . . didn’t actually happen – some of the roads traveled down in other books that involve rich dickish parents and young women trying to live their life (either outside of their control, within their control, or some mix). I took the opportunity offered to mention one of the ‘traps’ and messed up my paragraph. Mmphs. ETA: part of that 'messed up my paragraph' was the part where I wanted to emphasis that Maggie was a lesbian, while Courtney just 'was', she doesn't like labels, though, boiled down, Maggie 'labels her' as a bisexual (since Courtney lusts after who she lusts after, regardless of gender, and Maggie sees that as bisexual). Book opens with a prologue. Margaret is hopping around town, somewhere around 26 or so, and somewhere ‘Now’ (It is unclear when the events of this book occur – judging by the constant mention of Facebook, and how the town just put up a Facebook page, and how Facebook was founded in 2004 . . . I’d put the flashback years somewhere around 2006 to 2010, depending on how ‘slow’ the town was to jump on the bandwagon, and the ‘Now’ time at about 2015 to 2017 (the now time is 7 years after the flashback time, wait, I know – the characters are roughly 24-25 in now time then since they were roughly 16-17 in the flashback years (wait, no, started at roughly 16, ended at roughly . . . 19? 20? So somewhere around 26-27 in the Now years)). While Margaret is hopping around doing her thing, she runs across Courtney – who she hasn’t seen in a long time. And doesn’t really want to see now. Bad situation all around – the two had dated when they were even younger than they are now and it ended badly. Then the book proceeds to spend a good long portion, maybe 65% or so of the book, in a ‘flashback’ back to high school and college (part of my problem of dates – we kept having ‘we did this here [insert scene] *the next summer* [insert scene] *the next summer* [insert scene] *2 summers later* [scene] *9 months later* [scene] *six months later* [scene]’ and by the end of all that I’ve no real clue how much time actually passed, though I got the impression a ton of time passed. In terms of characters and growth . . . I didn’t really notice as much as I’d expect. Though I’m basing that almost entirely on how throughout the story Margaret had a massive chip on her shoulder and was a reverse-snob – anyone who was slightly popular, fashionable, etc., was assumed to be a asshole; and you - the reader – saw that crop up through time in the flashbacks (didn’t want to be near Melanie and group because they were fashionable/popular, though it was more Margaret’s issue not theirs (which she saw, once she actually talked with them, as them ‘chilling the hell out’ but . . heh, no, it was Maggie actually talking with them and not being a dick to them – hell, her own older brother was the most popular kid when he was at the high school, so all that ‘farm kid vs. town kid’ was probably there but not to the extent Maggie thought it was; years later Maggie made snide comments about Courtney’s Chicago friends based on their supposed snobbishness; then in the ‘Now’ sections Maggie was still making comments like that – though she tried, at least, to stop herself and to suppress them they still existed. She’s a successful real estate agent and had a successful management level second job with the strawberry farm and she still had this chip on her shoulder – though she was friends with some of those who she said had to chill out before she would be friends with them). Basically my point is that everything is from Maggie’s point of view, and therefore ‘unfair’ to Courtney’s side of things and yet, Maggie is the one coming off ‘bad’ here. So, there’s that. Wow, this is a bunch of stream of conscious gibberish. Mmphs. Rating: 3.48 April 25 2017

It turns out North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un doesn’t need to fire off a missile to get the world’s attention. He has a number of far more powerful weapons in his arsenal: his female envoys.
And on this latest so-called charm offensive, he saved the best for last. His sister.
Kim Yo-jong mesmerised South Korean audiences. As she strode into the presidential palace carrying a handwritten note from her brother, every detail was scrutinised live on television. Her sparkly top, how she wore her hair, each small gesture. The news networks even decided to discuss her freckles, rather than mention that she is on a US blacklist for human rights abuses.
You could almost feel the ripple of excitement as she walked into the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Necks craned and mobile phones were held aloft to catch a glimpse.
I found myself, along with others, leaning as far as I could over the balcony to try to see her in the VIP box below. The faces around the stadium all said one thing. She’s here. On South Korean soil.
She has given the secretive regime a human face.

“It’s strange and wondrous. I’ve never seen a North Korean before,” one young man tells me.
“My heart is melting,” says another.
Pyongyang’s PR queen
But let’s not forget, Kim Yo-jong is a Pyongyang’s PR queen. She is the master of her brother’s image, and on this occasion, she has mastered the media’s portrayal of her country.
“To see a member of the Kim family in the flesh like that is so unusual for South Koreans that it’s not surprising they were fascinated by her,” explains Jean Lee, former Pyongyang bureau chief for the news agency Associated Press.
“But it does also show how savvy the North Koreas are,” he says. “They sent their prettiest women. Frankly when you go to North Korea, you have these guys who are drop dead gorgeous. They have told me sometimes that their job is to seduce us, so that in turn we are like, the country and the people, they’re not that bad.”
The seduction began several weeks ago as North Korea despatched the former lead singer of Moranbong, an all female music group. Hyun Song-wol sashayed through Seoul to find a venue for her arts troupe to perform.
Again, more mention was made of her fur stole than the fact that only five months ago North Korea conducted its latest nuclear test.
Then came the famed “army of beauties”. This group of women, handpicked for their good looks, talent, and loyalty to the regime stepped off the bus in single file in matching black fur hats, red coats and ankle boots.

Heavily guarded, most merely smiled as reporters tripped over themselves to try to get near them.
In looks-conscious and skin-care obsessed South Korea, these young North Korean women are held up as examples of natural beauty or innocence and it appears to have prompted a sting of nostalgia in the older generation. One of the group’s most famous members is Ri Sol-ju who joined when she was 16 and eventually became the wife of Kim Jong-un.
‘Fighters on the frontline’
One North Korean defector told me it was her job to go out and conquer with a smile. Han Seo-hee is a former member of both the North Korean cheerleading squad and the arts troupe.
“We were supposed to promote the Juche ideology (North Korea’s ideology of socialist self-reliance). We were fighters on the frontline. We thought we were going into the heart of the enemy to show how proud we are. We were to show that we were better than others. I was quite proud and confident and I thought that was what we were going to do.”

Han Seo-hee had to leave North Korea because her brother defected. If she’d stayed she and her family could have ended up in prison. She enjoys the freedom she has in South Korea as she recalls the three months of ideological training she went through with her fellow performers.
“We were told we should not be surprised and shocked by the unknown world and that we shouldn’t forget our home country even for a minute. We shouldn’t forget that we are there to honour General Kim.
“Some of my fellow performers said that because they didn’t want to forget their homeland they would grab a handful of earth to put in their suitcase. Another packed a portrait of Kim Jong-il (the father of the current leader) wrapped in a red silk scarf in her bag.”

This kind of idolisation of a leader is alien to South Korea’s younger generation who are not so easily seduced by North Korea’s arrivals.
Protests sprung up on social media by an outraged group in their 20s and 30s who felt that South Korean President Moon Jae-in was wrong to integrate North Koreans into the women’s ice hockey team. The president’s popularity ratings have not fully recovered.
North Korea’s cheerleading charm offensive
North v South: A history of sport, bombs and diplomacy
‘Like a religious cult’
And the culture gap became glaringly obvious during the ice hockey match itself.
The South Korean cheerleading group at the Olympics had rehearsed sexy routines to the song Uptown Funk in mini skirts and knee high boots while waving pom poms. But the rows of North Korean cheerleaders below them seemed almost oblivious to whatever pop or rock hit was booming around the stadium.
In matching red tracksuits their performance consisted of quirky hand movements and chants all done in perfect unison. Their traditional songs were about uniting the Motherland. “We are one” was the cry.

Image caption North Korean cheerleaders have been the centre of attraction at the Pyeongchang Olympics
Han Seo-hee feared the cheerleaders might be seen as a curious spectacle. She remembered an incident in 2003.
“When the cheerleaders arrived in South Korea it was raining and Kim Jong-il’s portrait on the main flag got wet. The whole group of cheerleaders were horrified and came out of the bus and gathered around the picture to protect it. South Koreans were quite shocked to see this behaviour because it looked like a religious cult.
“It only served to highlight the differences between the South and the North.”
Political Scientist Ian Bremmer noted on Twitter that “N Korea’s cheering squad is an amazing spectacle. But they’re human hostages of a criminal regime. It’s the most heartbreaking thing we’ll see at the Olympics”
It seems North Korean’s power to seduce has its limitations.

The Rise of Café Churches in South Korea
By Jason Strother, The Atlantic, May 8, 2017
The electronic keyboard and acoustic guitar kicked in as the junior minister opened this past Sunday’s service with a public prayer.
He spoke in a rapid-fire cadence as the 20 members of the evangelical church tried to keep pace, before rising to recite the Apostle’s Creed, a proclamation of their faith.
This house of worship in central Seoul is one of the tens of thousands of small Protestant chapels across the country that are trying to lure believers away from South Korea’s megachurches. Some, like this one, are doing so by satisfying the longing for a close-knit religious community as well as the craving for a cappuccino.
The church’s name is Jesus Coffee.
“Churches and cafés have the hardest time surviving in Korea,” said Ahn Min-ho, a 42-year-old ordained minister and certified barista. “Combining the two is mutually beneficial.”
South Korea is divided between Buddhists (15.5 percent), Protestants (19.7 percent), Catholics (7.9 percent), and non-believers. Among the large population of Christians, the model of the combined “café church” has taken off in recent years. These grassroots affairs provide a counterpoint to the massive, hierarchical, institutionalized megachurches in a country where many are distrustful of major institutions, both religious and political. Megachurches have lately been implicated in high-profile corruption scandals; the founder of Seoul’s Yoido Full Gospel Church, which claims a congregation of nearly 800,000 people and is the largest megachurch in the world, was convicted of embezzling $12 million in church money in 2014. In the political realm, former conservative president Park Geun-hye--whose father once served as president as well--was impeached in March for her alleged masterminding of a vast bribery scandal that has landed her in prison.
Customers at Ahn’s café church can peruse a selection of Christian literature while nursing their lattes, which are about a dollar cheaper than at some of the neighborhood’s big-name franchises. A cross-adorned wooden shed in the corner, marked “Prayer Room,” contains a desk with a Bible on top. The sanctuary is located in a windowless room in the back, behind the espresso machine and industrial-strength coffee grinder.
Ahn told me he welcomes newcomers who, like him, feel Christianity in South Korea has become “too institutionalized.” That seems to be a sentiment shared by many worshipers in their 20s and 30s, who are, according to reports, increasingly leaving their churches amid feelings of disillusionment with organized religion.
And many don’t hold the same political views as older generations.
“Christians over the age of 50 are more likely to vote for the conservatives,” said Ms. Lee, a 40-year-old mother of three who was slowly finishing an iced vanilla latte at Jesus Coffee after the service. “We think differently from them.”
This generational divide mirrors a rift among the general population: According to a recent Gallup poll, ahead of Tuesday’s election most South Koreans aged 60 or older preferred the conservative or centrist politicians who take a hardline policy on North Korea, while voters in their 30s overwhelmingly favored the progressive candidate and care more about clamping down on corruption. Indeed, in a survey conducted by local pollster RealMeter, 27.5 percent of respondents said that a candidate’s “intention to resolve deeply-rooted corruption” was the most crucial quality; by contrast, only 18.5 percent said “protection of national security and liberal democracy” was most important.
Unlike American evangelicals, who have long been considered a coherent voting bloc, Korean “evangelical voters are not a unified bloc, and the voting patterns are complex, but politicians pay attention because many voters are evangelical,” David Halloran Lumsdaine wrote in Evangelical Christianity and Democracy in Asia. Survey data about the impact of religion on voting in previous elections is scarce, but interview data suggest that “Christians’ voting responds more to regional than religious affiliations,” Lumsdaine wrote.
Still, South Korean Protestants have long been reliable supporters of the country’s right wing due to a shared political ideology. The prosperity gospel and staunch opposition to communism are staples for many of Korea’s evangelical preachers, which align them with the agenda of pro-business and anti-North Korea politicians.
For the generation of Koreans who remember a time of war and poverty, these messages still resonate, but for those who have come of age in an era of relative peace and wealth, the prosperity gospel “doesn’t have the same magic appeal,” according to Brother Anthony, a longtime observer of South Korea’s religious movements and a member of the Taizé ecumenical monastic community, which counts both Protestants and Catholics.
Thus, in this election, the nation’s fractured conservative establishment cannot count on the Christian vote. Some of South Korea’s Christians were shocked by the Park Geun-hye scandal, which shed light on her relationship with Choi Tae-min, a cult leader who in the 1970s allegedly told the young Park that he could commune with her assassinated mother. That mentorship led to Park’s friendship with his daughter, Choi Soon-sil, who was later given unlawful access to government documents and was accused of extorting millions of dollars in donations from the country’s largest companies.
The latest surveys show that Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer and candidate from the progressive Minjoo Party, has a strong lead over his nearest contender, Ahn Cheol-soo, a businessman-turned-politician whose centrist party is expected to pick up some of the conservative vote.
Governor Hong Joon-pyo trails in a distant third place. His party--the ruling party that changed its name to Liberty Korea after Park’s impeachment--has been tarnished by its affiliation with the former leader and will most likely relinquish its stewardship of the presidential Blue House, which it’s held since 2008.
None of the leading candidates is an obvious choice for the religiously devout.
Contrary to their American counterparts, South Korean politicians don’t typically profess their faith or affiliation while on the campaign trail; if they did, they would risk alienating a significant segment of the electorate, said Michael Breen, the author of The New Koreans. “It tends to be a non-issue,” he explained, adding that presidential hopefuls “have to be mindful that they’re trying to become president of all Koreans.”
Breen noted that one exception was former president Lee Myung-bak, who was an elder at a conservative megachurch in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Lee’s opponents often claimed his church had too much influence in his administration.
The conservative Christian Council of Korea, an organization that claims to represent 12 million worshipers, recently issued a statement saying that it will not endorse any particular candidate in this race. But the council did encourage voters to keep “national security” in mind when making their choice.
Brother Anthony noted that in light of the presidential corruption scandal, the misgivings that many young people feel are not exclusively directed toward the political and business elite; they’re also part of the reason why the large Christian denominations are losing congregants.
“Most of these megachurches are bogged down with rows over money and power,” he said. “Why should young people be attracted to that?”
Some pastors’ continued support for the ousted leader and her shattered party doesn’t exactly help win back the more progressively minded faithful, either.
Some pastors may think they wield more influence over their flock than they actually do, according to a survey conducted last month by the Korean Christian Press Forum. Results show that nearly 80 percent of the 1,028 Christian respondents between ages 19 and 60 answered “no” when asked if their ministers’ sermons impact who they vote for, and 65 percent of those polled indicated that churches should not make political endorsements.
But in an election season that many young voters hope will lead to the curbing of official corruption, even the café churches they frequent have drawn suspicion. Some churches in Seoul have been found to not report profits earned via their coffee shops. Ironically, worries of corruption plague not only the establishment symbols that the youth distrust--from megachurches to the Park family--but also the grassroots movements that have sprung up to counter them.
For his part, Ahn Min-ho, Jesus Coffee’s founding pastor, said he’s paid his taxes and has also stayed away from discussing the election at the pulpit. He added that Christians can “find a balance” between being spiritually conservative and politically progressive, and that social justice and improved economic livelihood are two of the issues that voters will strongly consider on Tuesday.
