what are the books you've read this year so far? how did you like them?
My taste in books is.. very boring, so it's literally just a bunch of thrillers, nothing very interesting 😬 but here they are anyway:
Mother by S.E. Lynes (this one was fine, nothing amazing but not bad)
When She Returned by Lucinda Berry (not great but okay; I usually like books about cults but this one had only one interesting/smart character and everyone else was absolutely fucking useless (not even in an interesting way, they were just annoying) )
The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry (this one was so bad it made me angry, I had wanted to give the author another chance but this is probably the last of her books I'll read. this had something that I hate that the last one did as well - a male character who doesn't listen to or believe anything his wife says, even though she's being completely calm and rational and has actual proof, while he is so fucking stupid that he doesn't see even the most obvious signs that something is clearly wrong. I don't have any patience for that when it's done in the way it was here.)
The Last Guests by J.P. Pomare (pretty good, I liked it)
Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter (I've been wanting to read this one since it came out in 2018, the author has been my favourite author for about 15 years and still I just couldn't make myself read it 🤷 Then I read most of it in one nine hour session because it was so good that I couldn't stop! I'm glad I found out that there's a Netflix adaptation that's coming out in a few days, I don't know if I would have read it otherwise (I don't know if the show will be any good, the actors don't really fit how I imagined the characters, but I'll watch it anyway!) )
The Therapist by B.A. Paris (I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet, the main character was incredibly irritating and the plot was... frustrating at times - most of the time - almost all the time tbh)
The Other Wife by Claire McGowan (I started this one in March 2021, and I liked it - but it still took me an entire year to finish it. It was good, I enjoyed the rest of it even though I didn't remember all the details)

The Moving Picture World, 1916
Page 610: Most exhibitors who get bitten try to hide that fact. Now and then one will be fearless enough to try and warn brother exhibitors, and one such is B.E. Elberson, of the Marlow theater, Bucyrus, Ohio, who has been busy lately with such a contest. He writes: “I just closed a popularity contest which was a dismal failure and then I received such a stinging that I feel it my duty to warn other exhibitors of my experience, and I know of no better way of giving this information than through the columns of The Moving Picture World. “The contest was run for six weeks, and so far as I know was conducted properly until the day before the closing. The plan was as follows: “The Popularity Contest Advertising Co. agreed to furnish the prizes as listed and place the same display to a local jewelry and furniture store three days before the contest started. This they did. As I said before, I believe that the contest was run surely until the day before the finish when they approached two of the contestants with the proposition as stated I the enclosed newspaper clipping. The prize list itemizes twelve articles, the first prize being a ticket to Jacksonville, Florida, and return with $100 in gold for expense money, and the second a similar trip with $50 for expenses. From there the prizes dropped to a china set, a celluloid toilet set and similar stuff inelegantly known to the craft as “slum.” The minor prizes were not of a value to cause the givers great concern, but their action in the matter of the two large prizes is best shown from this statement issued by the leaders and printed in the local papers: “We, the undersigned, wish to state that on Saturday afternoon, March 25, we were approached by V.E. Mendenhall and Virgie Bowen, managers of the popularity contest which closed Sunday at the Marlowe Theatre, who made representations to us as follows: …….. There is nothing mysterious in a popularity contest. You get prizes of a certain value, generally proportioned to the length of time the contest will run. You print tickets or coupon books good for a certain number of future admissions and a stated number of immediate votes. You issue coupons with each cash sale of tickets. These are given to the contestants or deposited in ballot boxes in the theater lobby. At the end of the determined period the votes are counted. The first prize goes to the person having the largest number of votes, the second to the next largest number and so on down the line. Some show printers make a specialty of getting up these ticket books, or your own printer can do it for you. It is customary to use lathe work as a protection or a signature cut, to counterfeit which is a forgery. Either will protect the house from duplication. Page 1006: Strand’s Popularity Contest. Louisville, Ky.—The popularity contest which is under way at the Strand theater is gaining in interest all the time and the number of candidates increasing. Not only are individuals being entered by their friends but fraternal and other organizations are also making entries in favorite daughters. The theater is making the most of the contest in its adverting and from time to time at the theater the names and standings of the contestants are announced. The winner will be given an automobile. Page 1196: Buffalo, N.Y.—At a meeting of the Buffalo Screen Club, Monday night, April 24, several applications for membership in the organization were posted. The membership list is steadily increasing. It is reported that the Rochester exchange men and exhibitors will come in a special train to the Buffalo Screen Club’s Ball, May 15th. A popularity contest with free transportation and a ticket to the ball as the prize for the winning couple is being conducted in Syracuse. The program committee reports that several screen stars will appear in person at the ball. The decoration and music committees are carrying out elaborate plans to make the event a great success. The ball is being given wide publicity in the Buffalo newspapers. Page 1203: Strand’s Popularity Contest. Evansville, Ind.—The Strand, one of the leading moving picture theaters of the city has greatly increased business, because of the interest which has been aroused by the popularity contest, with an automobile the prize, which was instituted some weeks past. The theater recently took on a new line of features and at the same time announced the contest. The contest is given the credit for packing the house night after night. A number of Evansville’s prettiest are entered in the contest. New House in Auburn. Auburn, Ind.—Auburn is to have a new theater within a month. W.H. Willennar, W.H. Schwab and William H. Thomas have filed articles of incorporation to build and operate a theater to be called the Court. Page 1373: Barney Rosenthal Wins Prize. St. Louis, Mo.—Barney Rosenthal, manager of the Universal exchange at 2116 Locust street, recently won a popularity contest conducted by The Searchlight, a trade paper published in St. Louis. Mr. Rosenthal claims that the prize, although he values it highly, is of secondary importance, that the hearty support and friendship manifested by those who voted for him come first in his feeling of gratitude. Page 1375: New Albany, Inc.—William Conklin, photography director for the McHenry Film Corporation, is filming local celebrities for a home picture under the auspices of the New Albany Tribune. The Tribune recently conducted a popularity contest, and the “actors” for the film were suggested in this way. Page 1715: J.P. McGowan Wins Popularity Contest. J.P. McGowan, who’s latest far-famed accomplishment is the production of “The Girl and the Game” with Helen Holmes, has won the laureate of popularity in a contest conducted through the columns of the Minneapolis Journal. Mr. McGowan is now at work in the title role and directing the production of “Whispering Smith,” the novel by Frank R. Spearmin, which is being filmed as a ten-reel feature, with Helen Holmes in the principal feminine role, at the Los Angeles studios of the Signal Film Corporation. Metal Garages & Metallic Garage Buildings
Are you buying metal garage architecture that resembles that of a countryside holiday resort? Well, this functional poolside metal garage from Morton Structures will surely motivate you. This metal garage area is the perfect framework for you if you plan to have a pool in your premises. Not only is this material building durable and very spacious, but additionally it is really aesthetically appealing and blends well with the surrounding. The storage area has off-white surfaces and a beige colored roof structure. The light colors are a good contrast to the glowing green qualifications of trees and grass. Using one area of the garage area are two beach chairs that forget the pool where you can relax and sunbathe if you want to. An ideal spot indeed! I called Saturday with an estimate to correct a power gate. David came up Sunday and gave me a free estimate. The price was reasonable. I informed him I needed the work to be done very soon because I had been leaving at the end of the week. They emerged on Thursday and have a perfect job. This is actually the completed bench. On the still left area of the bench you can view the tin air exhaust wall socket. I've not hooked up the exhaust hose pipe yet when i was still repositioning Resto Mod Framework, Install A Mustang II in Your Street Rod, Block Fishing rod Repair, or Update Suspension Systems with aftermarket components, or Build a complete Tube Framework from Scratch with Chromoly or Mild Steel tubes. Maybe even just install A Custom Move Cage. If you're interested in Highway Auto racing and Autocross we've you protected. Whatever your Niche Vehicle is we can steer you in the right path. Between them, maker Trem Carr and director J.P. McGowan were accountable for many of the movies shot in the Santa Clarita Valley in the 1920s and 1930s, specifically in Placerita Canyon. They probably didn't realize — or caution — that they were documenting our valley's background on the way. Where can you find the King” of NASCAR racing, Richard Petty, as well as the Last American Hero”, Junior Johnson, working mutually to support and endorse something? The answer, ONLY at CCI! I found this company via yelp as they had many great reviews. I hired them to displace a pedestrian gate for me. A good gentleman known as Gal arrived to give me a bet and did etc the location. Via email they sent me a deal which I authorized and three times later my gate was prepared to be installed. they copied of my original gate. I did so have some issues (although these were set): They improved the way the gate swung out rather than inward without making me know beforehand and The gate jammed on me the first day where I couldn't start it or close it in any way which had to do with the set up. But immediately after hearing my complaint, Gal ensured that the installer arrived the next day to readjust the gate and fix the problem. It is now working just fine! Gal was always nice and resolved everything necessary with a smile. I am pleased. then I would go to your nearest place that sell ponds & fish-pond liners and buy a sealant called innotec or the same, its not cheap, about £15 - £20 for a 300ml tube, these things will stick to and seal just about anything be it damp or dried, warm the pipe up before used in a bowl of warm water, wear gloves as it don't wash off your hands or other things you obtain it on.
