The creation of syndicated newspaper artist Lewis Pardain, Lancer the Paper Fiend was an icon of the early twenties to late forties. Created during Pardains employment at the Kellbridge Chronicle the comics, titled "Lancer in the Inkwell," would revolve around Lancers interactions with the reader, the space around him, and the text speech bubbles and borders of the comic. It was a very meta fourth wall breaking comic strip and fairly well regarded by readers for its funny inventive usage of the medium.
Tumblr media
Lancers personality in these comics could be described as a very curious but easily irritated/pestered character that would often 'fight' with the reader/artist. He was a strong headed character that often employed physical violence to get what he wanted, and would often erupt into angry blobs of text that covered the page.
In one of his most well known strips, he took a pin, stabbed the wall behind him, and words featured in that day's paper poured into the room. It was gags like these that drew fans to buy the paper just for Lancers antics.

When Pardain left Kellbridge chronicle to help build up the fledgling Liquid Laff Pictures with close friend Ivan Hoth, several other artists would attempt to fill the role of drawing for Lancer and the Inkwell.

However, due to various personal work and life related issues, these replacements tended to quit within one to two months.
The comics were notably never quite the same following Pardains departure, as they were lacking the inventive fourth wall breaking they were once known for and within two years the comic ended its run.

Seemingly alone among Wehrmacht generals, General Hermann Hoth's wikipedia profile image is his Nuremburg trial defendent picture:

Furthermore, he stated that Soviet prisoners of war had always been treated well, arguing that the usage of the nickname "Ivan" for the POWs showcased the "family-like relationship that our soldiers had to the Russian prisoners of war".

Snow Monster Encounter
Tags @insectoid5, @frozenartscapes, @hathor-frozen, @ultranos, & @kalikoke. This is one of a few queued post as I am currently away, so I can’t tag everyone in the DA!gang. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t tag me; I’d like to see what discussion these create. And could you please bump up in hopes that those I didn’t tag could see it? Thanks.
Elsa is in Antarctica / Siberia / any extremely pole-ward area, and while exploring the ice caverns for her objective (a new target on the run, a fetch-quest, personal side-adventure from main mission…), she bumps into a group of spelunkers/mountain climbers who accidentally disturbed the local family of Yetis/Abominable snowmen. She helps them fight their way out, abandoning her original objective for the sake of everyone’s safety.
Inspired by the blonde gunslinger on the box art for the Star Wars: Imperial Assault RPG expansion set, Return to Hoth:

Thoughts? Also: while I’d love to say that being in a locale with that much ice would be perfect for her ice powers, in this case I don’t think that will be the situation. The Far North/South are technically classified as deserts due to the little precipitation they receive. This results in powdery snow, not sticky-for-snowman stuff, and is exacerbated by the dry, high winds there thanks to the Coriolis Effect (in short, the poles spin faster about the Earth’s axis than the equator, thus stronger atmospheric winds.) Both Canon- and DA!Elsa’s powers seem to require latent moisture in the air to work. Yes, yes, they’re magic powers and all, but that’s my POV.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
(Preface. I apologize for my absence. Life happened)
I just got back from seeing Rogue for the second time, and I still enjoyed it. So lets get onto the review.
Unlike most other Star Wars movies, Rogue One isn’t something I would recommend bringing children to go see. It DOES have a few humorous moments, but it is first and foremost a war movie set in the Star Wars universe. I’m gonna get this minor spoiler out of the way right here and now and say: EVERYBODY DIES. Did that ruin the movie for you? that’s too bad.
Anyhow, Without spoiling the rest of the film, I’d like to go over everything I liked and didn’t like about Rogue One.  *I liked the CGI used to bring 1977 Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing (They’re one with the Force. May they both rest in peace) to life. When I first saw Rogue One, I was convinced CGI Tarkin was another lookalike like how they brought him to life at the very end of Episode III. Unlike The CG that de-aged Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy six years ago, the CG Flesh overlays on these actors looks convincing (at least to me), So Kudos to them. *I LOVED Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO. K-2SO is by far my favorite character in this movie. He’s like if R2-D2 and C-3PO were combined into one droid. He’s got the usefulness and the snark implied in R2′s Bleeps and Bloops as 3PO would constantly interpret them and Tudyk’s voiceover is very reminiscent of Anthony Daniels’s golden protocol droid. *U-Wings. When I first saw the LEGO kit of this previously unseen Rebel craft, I couldn’t help but find it just a little bit ugly, but damn are they useful. *The Battle of Scarif. With the sole exceptions of the climactic battles in Return of the Jedi and [SIGH] Phantom Menace, Battles in Star Wars usually haven’t been fully fleshed out. Usually there was either a Space Battle (Like the Battle of Yavin in ANH) or a ground battle (like the Battle of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back) the Battle of Scarif felt SO much more intense than any of these.
Now for something I wasn’t too keen on. *Characters had names, I just can’t remember them (because they were too complex) or they weren’t actually named. I can name off four major characters in this film (who aren’t in other Star Wars films) and they are K-2SO (75% Limbs, 25% attitude), Jyn Erso (Stardust), Krennic (An imperial stooge with a big cape) and.... Oh right Mr. Safety Goggles, The Imperial Defector, Bodhi. Everyone else (who wasn’t in other Star Wars movies) either had a needlessly complicated name that I can’t remember off the top of my head, wasn’t actually named, or I missed their names. You had fat white Mon Calamari admiral, Discount Hispanic Han Solo, “Blind Master” Trope (Now in Star Wars flavor!), Ivan the Space Mongolian (I am referencing a concept character from Half-Life), The Last King of Space Scotland (Forest Whitaker), and “Tragic Hero” Mads Mikkelson. I’m all for cultural appreciation, but I’d like to remember some of these heroic characters by name.
Overall, I enjoyed Rogue One and I’d love to see something in this same vein for other implied major moments in the Star Wars franchise.  I give Rogue One: A Star Wars Story an 8/10
