the theatre industry believes the pinnacle of diversity is adaptations where the female love interest is of color instead of white originally but won't do anything about 95% of leads being white men

Alan wake 2 DLC theory
Under read more due to Final Draft spoilers
Tumblr media
So my brother is playing Alan wake 2 for the first time and I had a thought.
There are a handful of "real" people in the Dark Place. (i.e. people we see there physically or have other confirmation they are there in person and not a writing thing) We have
2) Alice: Same
1) Alan: Brought in by jumping into Cauldron Lake
3) Thomas Zane: Also entered into Cauldron lake, possibly by jumping
4) Mr Door: hit by lightning and transported. Also has powers that allow him to visit other places.
5) Tim Breaker: Brought in by Mr. Door
6) Ahti: Apparently also part of his powerset.
7) The Old Gods: walk in to Cauldron Lake to rescue Saga. One prevsiously dead member is with them.
8) Dr. Darling: turned into an interdimensional figure via Hedron, no longer has a phsyical body.
9) Saga: Thrown in by Scratch.
Which leaves us with one "person" left.
Alex Casey/Sam Lake.
And where do we end in The Final Draft?
Alex Casey in the writer's room after being possessed by Scratch/The Dark Presence.
Considering how much is spent on "time not only does not matter here but can happen before and after the 'present' time"....
I think something is going to happen in the DLC and Alex will either get stuck in TDP or choose to stay for whatever reason. Maybe to keep the ending as bitter sweet, to make sure the story goes correctly, or much like Alan to "pay a price" to help the others escape.
Hey may still get out later, but Alex does also get one more thing that only Alan and Saga (aka "very real"/protagonist characters) get.
An internal monologue.

realizing that i got the one good job in the world
pros:
they have enough staff to cover shifts
instead of reducing my promised hours when they realized they hired me for too many, they decided to stay open later so i could still get my hours
i'm done and home by 1:30 pm at latest
i work by myself
i get to bring my laptop in with me because there's nothing to do for hours at a time (no menial tasks to fill up time!)
i make more money per hour than i've ever made in my life (this is due to the minimum wage here going up but still a pro)
cons:
sometimes i have to get up at 3 am to cover a shift, but very rarely
my boss is meh (could be a pro because she isn't terrible or anything like i've had before, but she isn't very nice)

things that probably aren't caused by testosterone but began happening after i started taking it:
being extremely attracted to hockey players
getting squeamish easily. i used to be normal but now hearing someone talk about any surgery that touches the inside of someone's body makes me a bit faint
craving meat after working out
hair got curly. actually this one was probably caused by testosterone bc i had wavy hair as a kid and then it straightened when i hit puberty

I just wrote a take on the old joke about the man who believes that God will save him from a flood, and I think some of you might like it: https://www.defenestrationmag.net/2023/08/the-old-joke-by-lillie-e-franks/

absolutely fucking wild to me that "reclining your seat on an airplane is a dick move if someone is sitting behind you" is still so controversial that saying it on Facebook, Tiktok, or Reddit will spawn wank like rapidly spreading mold.

I understand that tall men are our POV characters, but surely being like a foot taller than everyone around them would have some occasional consequences

I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.
I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.
One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.
The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?
The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”
I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.
It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.

Christmas as a cultural icon is starting to get really dystopian in a climate sense, december has historically been a time of year in which there would be snow in a significant portion of europe and north america, and the fact that its not even icy this time of year and all the christmas songs and decorations reference a time of year that will likely never exist in the same way again in my life time is so strange.
