Hello Rotomblr!

Not exactly sure what I'm going to be doing here, but I figured I'd give it a go. I'm Mica. He/him -- I'm 36 years old I study Pokémon, specifically 'mons that are shiny. I don't collect them, I just go out into the field and watch 'em :) Sometimes they decide to come home with me as well, but I do not force them to. I currently specialize in Paldean Pokémon, so if you have any questions on them, feel free to ask me! If you want, obviously. I can't force you (but I can give helpful insight, I promise). Also, I battle sometimes, but not very often, and I definitely wouldn't consider myself to be the best at it by any means. Instead, my partners help me with work, and above all, they're my companions. AUGH. Trying this again except I actually (kind of) know what I'm doing!! Pretty big text wall incoming, so I apologize for that. - This blog is run by @/soupermarket. - Unsure if anyone remembers this blog from before I deleted everything, but this is basically just a huge retcon. I developed Mica a LOT more, plus I actually have an idea for what to do with him in the rotomblrverse!! Yippay!!! Mica is pretty much just some guy. He's not anything special when it comes to battling, he just studies Pokémon (and messes around with rocks on the side). He grew up in Paldea (specifically Cascarrafa), but moved to Hoenn when he was 15. While in Hoenn, he did a mixture of Pokémon research/geologic work up until the whole Kyogre thing, which happened when he was 32. Once all that went down, he moved back to Paldea in search of new opportunities and a quieter life. This blog takes place post Alpha Sapphire. Hoenn was was very damaged, and most people were forced to either leave or completely rebuild, especially those living on the coast and in low-lying regions. Feel free to ask Mica about anything regarding that! However, I cannot guarantee that he'll give a completely honest answer, depending on what's asked ;3 Adding on to that, the events that happened are by no means canon compliant !! I did change up a few things, so this blog will most likely not align with the canon of your own, Slightly related to that, this blog will have an oc x canon relationship in it. Because I love being self-indulgent. Not going to mention just who it is quite yet, but it will come up eventually!! I just want Mica to be secretive about it for a little while, hehehe. However, I feel like it's probably going to become obvious who it is quite quickly.

I just want to ask how you came up with the characters and their personalities for the comic. I love them all, but I have a special fondness for Alex. I've never really liked an asshole character before, but I really enjoy Alex. What was your inspiration? Did you base the characters on the game, or did you create them to fit well within the story of the game?

I really appreciate the small details you added in the rewrite that make it feel unique and not just a copy of the game story. For example, the congratulatory photos for Alex and the league card for Max are designed in a way that reflects their characters, making them feel more unique.

it's great to hear that you're finding alex enjoyable, despite the fact he's a bit of a jerk right now~! i suspect the reason you're enjoying it despite the clash in taste is because he's really not a bad kid at heart, just one with some issues going on, and i think that's something most of us can relate to. :') i've also ended up with quite a lengthy answer to the rest of your ask here, so it's all below the cut~

as far as inspiration goes, i started to jot down my ideas and notes for the boys and overall story around the time scarlet and violet were first announced - when it was shown there was a school theme, i knew i wanted to write about the existing young pkmn oc's i had, and the split between max and alex came about when the husbando decided to finally play/start sword for the first time. i opted to age up the boys from their last appearances (they were 12 and 10 in their last non-cameo appearances), giving me some leeway to work in story elements to be discovered over the course of the story.

by the time scarvi dropped, i pretty much had my general ideas/progression set up, and it was mostly just a matter of playing through the games to see what plot stuff i needed to change, and i was very surprised to see how well alex fit into the situation in paldea. so most of what comes out in alex's story was more or less all laid out before the game came out, and although my posting speed certainly leaves much to be desired, the slowness does at least allow me to add details from other media for some extra fun.

as for max, i've long since played through shield so the story there wasn't new to me, but seeing as it's new to husbando, i'm able to incorporate some of his fresh perspectives, as well as look more deeply into galar's story to try and tell it in a more cohesive way. imo, the story *is* good, but it's executed poorly, and has several loose ends that never got tied up. while i'm not able to account for all of the plot holes, i hope to tell swish in a way that helps others see it in a more thought-provoking light.

ultimately, alex's journey is intended as an introspective one, while max's is meant to be extrospective, thus the name of the story/blog. their paths may mirror one another at times, but their journeys are their own to complete.

as for the boys in general terms, if they feel like they could be real people, that's great! i try to write characters to have more than just one-note to them, and that's extending out to main characters such as nemona and hop - charas that many in the fandom have unfairly ragged on bc the games heavily emphasised one trait over anything else. alex, max, and their family carry many irl traits from myself and the husbando, as they're all more or less offshoots from self-insert oc's that we no longer write/draw/use. while carrying traits that make them interesting to write, they still differ greatly from us, so we've had plenty of convos going over 'what-ifs' and debating how they'd react to specific plot points, dialogue, or if other factors would change a normal response into an out of character one. through the course of writing and story talks like that, i've come to enjoy writing these teen dorks way more than any of my adult ocs. alex and max haven't lost that youthful spark, and have way more openings to goof off and have fun unlike the adult ocs.

and whoof, that's a lot of writing, so thank you for reading all the way to the end! i defo could go on for days about all the minutiae of my art/writing/oc choices, but i think it'll be far more interesting to just see it happen as the story comes out piece by piece~

Hi, thank you!

I'll answer a bit out of order for a reason... I wouldn't count it as astral work/etc, I personally classify is under "mindwalking".

It's rough, in my experience basically every plane including this one is on a spectrum between Material and Mental. Every one is... both, at least if you can traverse it, which makes things confusing. However, just because both the ocean and the rain are experiences of "being in water", that doesn't make differentiating them unimportant - likewise just because technically even the physical plane is partly mental, that doesn't mean differentiating astral and mental are no longer important.

I answer classifications first mostly because I think its important that astral projection/etc is "Astral" not "mindspace" projection, "astral" is a term used for specific types of spaces in the way "physical" is. If "astral" and "mental" work were to be classified as the same thing, genuinely we may as well class "physical" things as "mental" too. None of that is saying you're (insert some negative word here) for asking about them, specifically Im lingering on it because the classification in itself is the biggest source of definitive lines drawn between things.

I'll say it this way: I guess its like asking about... Is a mountain a part of a valley? No. There is definitely a part where they are indistinguishable - but mountain climbers climb mountains, rivers settle in valleys, so while you can walk the line between these two things if youre aiming for Astral work (say: mountain climbing) youre not doing the same thing as mindwalking (say: river settling in a valley).

All that out of the way, I absolutely can tell you about those things in my experience. Mindspaces/headspaces (the only distinction I draw between terms is headspace is, in my experienced, used for systems and... as much as I know plurality comes about through many means, I am actually very big on medical terms being left to those that have medical disorders. Is headspace as much a medical term as system is? no, but Id rather stay out of it and just leave that term alone personally) (thats to say theyre likely similar or the same, but I cant talk on what gets called a headspace).

Mindspaces are complicated. They're essentially heavily rooted in the mental, which is to say the elemental mental... highly influenced by thought, extensions of self, mental is hard to define. That said, as I said earlier, theres places where mental and Astral blur. I actually have a portal in my mindspace to a place in Astral Mongolia, but that... involves weaving reality in... well. ok. TLDR its currently not super connected because it involves stitching a hole from unreality (not. nothingness, not nonreality) into reality, which is loosely like birthing something from nothing - but possible given the ties between them

Mindwalking does involve quite a few sort of... similar skills to AP and Astral work though. Not just that, but it shares similarities on a surface level IE you can meet spirits there as well as people you know irl, and so on. It is.... highly programmable

I think - on that note - a quick detour is important. The mental can be programmed to be incredibly realistic or absolute nothingness. Reality Shifting in all my experience - including creating and going into an "alternate reality" out of my control with my husband - is a Mental function. Dreams (everything from nonsensical flashes of memories, to weird unlucid adventures, to nightmares, to lucid dreaming) are Mental functions, "alternate realities" shifted into with RS, mindspaces, as well as autonomous other people/servitors/i-cant-stand-the-word-tulpa-but-thats-what-it-is-colloquiallys, manifestations of memories, visions/autovisions, as well as what Ive had in two mindspaces now, portals to other things including the astral, are all mental things... And so with that complexity hopefully its more understood when i say that one can go to the mindspace like they can project

its a different process but can be done with the same process, if that makes sense. You can lie down and get into the void state or whatever and "project" into the mental. That makes it complicated and hard to differentiate - if youre treating them as the same. if youre not its much easier to navigate. So, TLDR: Mindspace is a function of the mental where one creates a mental space that is sustained outside their image conjuring (if you put a book down in the mindspace and forget, it should still be there. if you put a book down in imagination while youre imagining youre in a place, it shouldnt still be there when you get back - mindspace is a stable mental space, imagination is a simulation of a space. technically both are simulations but mindspace becomes passively simulated and imagination is actively simulated), and theres a difference between astral and mental work (mindwalking is a type of mental work), but they do get mixed up and arent quite fully separate in many ways

The irony of people jumping your shit for promoting the "Oc agenda". Lol. Lmao, even. Like, yes, we do love Ocs here. Yusuke may not be mine or your or anyone's Oc except Yoshihiro Togashi's, but we do like him. Same with Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei— All of these wonderful characters are neat *Ocs* and I'm down for you promoting them in your "agenda". Any other Ocs that you throw into the Oc hotpot are like extra seasoning, and if people can't handle the added spice then it's on them to not eat it.

In the end, backlash to innocuous comments about fandom are most often a form of self-consciousness on display.

People come to fandom for validation. When they think they're about to get validation, and then they don't, it makes them feel insecure about their preferences. They take innocuous comments personally because they perceive them as a value judgment, even if they are not intended to be so.

When people mock OCs in front of me, I just mute or block and move on with my life. I don't engage. I see it all the time, but I don't let it impact me. I don't let it drive me away from a fandom. (And I do not reach out to blogs who haven't expressed interest in OCs for recommendations or validation, either.)

We have to curate our own experiences. If people don't like ocs, they are free to curate a fandom space that does not have them in it. It's no skin off my nose, and it should be no skin off their noses if I decide to curate a fandom space that does not include shipping canon characters.

I don't know that anyone's noticed this, but I intentionally left off the shipping tag when I made that post. I did not want to put my opinions into that specific space within the fandom. I have a right to express myself on my blog, but I wasn't about to inject my opinion directly into the tag when I knew I wasn't validating the emotions of the people within it. That's why it's very odd to me that people are interpreting what I said as negative, because I took multiple active measures to make sure I was honoring people who do like that ship, and I avoided talking about the ship itself very much on purpose. But if people want to interpret what I was saying in a really negative way, or as a targeted value judgement of their preferences, that's on them. If they want to commit themselves to anger, that is their right.

I'm just going to be over here writing myself shameless insert fics and letting judgments roll off my back, because as a self-insert writer, that's what you have to do to survive.

ok so (looks straight at camera) im a confessed zimbits-snarker, right? hate those guys. fuck those guys. BUT. i would love to play devils advocate for *checks notes real quick* the most popular pairing in the fandom for a minute. watch me, i'm about to do the mental gymnastics meme where both the top and the bottom just say "zimbits good"

one thing i think that draws people to zimbits is the aspect of wish fulfilment. with bitty serving as the reader-insert, it's easy to see why: bitty begins the comic as a fish out of water to college hockey, he undergoes the journey of being integrated into the group and learns to be part of its larger culture. add to that that Jack is literally set up as a handsome prince with a dark mysterious past who serves to sweep up Bitty and usher him off into the sunset. the author has even said that Jack specifically has to fulfil certain hunk duties as eyecandy. its cute! whats not to love! another thing that intrigues me specifically is that zimbits kind of starts out as enemies to lovers. me at age something-teen reading Check Please for the first time, seeing tall dark and handsome year 1 asshole jack yell at Bitty? i was like "oh i need him carnally", and evidently so did Bits.

Next, coming from the Jack side of things, it's just such a cozy concept for the ending of his character arc, right? After all these years of torturing himself, here is finally someone who is just willing to shower him in affection, who loves nothing more than to dote on him and bake him homemade pie, which is a very fitting image for the domesticity that jack could use after the fuckery that is his Icarus arc.

Another thing that I would love to see explored more is how Bitty's and Jack's stories end up falling in parallel when it comes to their upbringing. Both of them feel like they can't live up to being their fathers, which neither of their fathers necessarily want of them, but it's a sort of self-imposed expectation for both of them. As a woman who is certainly "my father's daughter" i find that very relatable.

Now here's where I'm gonna come in with my own hot take and say that, Jack and Bitty are good for each other– for a while. And that's okay. When I read their relationship, it always gives me the sense that here are two people who found each other at very pivotal points in their lives (i mean whats more epitomic of the college experience than that) and who profit from each other's company while they're going through that growing process. They work because first and foremost they're each other's friends. I think in year 2 this is especially evident when the buildup to their romance happens. Bitty cares about Jack's safety, his happiness. Jack wants to give Bitty what he can to make him happy.

When I think about where I see them in the future I always think, like. Happily divorced. There's a scene in Company by Sondheim where Peter and Susan, a sexually repressed guy who lusts after the protagonist and a southern belle ray of sunshine, get a divorce and it's the best thing that's ever happened to them. I rewatched the 2006 revival recently and at that scene I went "oh shit that's them. that's zimbits". At one point the protag asks Peter where he's gonna live now that they're divorced and Peter says like "Right here. I got Susan and the kids to take care of, I would certainly never leave them?" And obviously the scene is highly facetious and satiristic, but I think it's emblematic of how I see their relationship work out. They're probably not longterm compatible romantically but they'll still have each other's backs.

At least until Jack finds out about the vlog.

Help I spent too long making this at this point it's longer than some of my fanfics.

AvA/M shower thoughts.

I've been thinking about this one subconsciously for a while now, and I'm sure that this is an unanswered question in the fan base- Who's the real villains?

I feel like that information is vErY iMpOrTaNt because with that info, we can make better predictions on the future of the series.

Just so you know, this is the kinda stuff I'm thinking about because I don't have anything else to watch because animation takes a long time.

Most people in the AvA/M community would probably say that Dark and MT are villains, and they wouldn't be wrong, but I want to talk about the other possible antagonists.

The first one I'm going to talk about is PuRpLe, my fatherless chaos child. Before I start analyzing their character, I would first like to define a villain in the AvA/M series.

According to Oxford Languages, a villain is "a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot." I would also like to point out that the villains in this specific series has a common theme of taking things too far.

I feel like Purple fits both of these descriptions of a villain. While they had their reasons, that doesn't cover up the fact that Purple was a sidekick to MT, or that they also wanted to destroy Minecraft, and while they just wanted to help MT, that doesn't cover up the fact they tried to destroy Minecraft, helping MT take his revenge too far, just for the fun of it.

However, I wouldn't consider Purple as a villain currently in the series. In AvA 6, there's no sign of Purple or MT for that matter. They also seem to be keeping their distance from the color group, meaning they're not trying to push forgiveness on them. So I think that Purple used to be considered a villain, but now they're not.

Next, possibly the most confusing one in the entire cast is Chosen. A lot of animation memes on YouTube use the previously mentioned sticks above, but also use Chosen, probably because the beat either has 4 parts, or because it would be weird to have 2 characters from one series, while 1 from another (or both).

But is he actually a villain?

HE MOST DEFINITELY IS! Chosen's rampage with Dark was at least partly his idea, if not, fully his idea, which MOST DEFINITELY AFFECTED THE PLOT. He would also go with the theme of taking things too far by FREAKING KILLING ENTIRE CITIES FOR NO REASON. Bro's more of a chaos child than Purple, geez. He isn't even fully redeemed, BECAUSE HE LITERALLY KIDNAPPED HIS BROTHER, PUTTING HIM IN DANGER AND TRYING TO GET HIM TO USE HIS MOUNTAIN DEW POWERS, WHICH IN THEORY COULD GET HIM KILLED IF USED TOO EARLY.

Bro didn't just step past the line, he ran right past it.

Finally, I would like to talk about the creator with a self-insert himself, Alan.

He literally killed Vic FOR FUN. He enslaved Chosen because that stick DIDN'T WANNA BE KILLED.

Deleting a stick because they're trying to destroy your PC is one thing, but you couldn't have tried to talk to them?

Also, Alan's actions definitely affect the plot, if he didn't LITERALLY TRY TO KILL CHOSEN, most of AvA wouldn't have happened.

He's definitely playing favorites here.

And why I'm so jaded and cynical when it comes to politics because these were supposed to be my teachers. The people I was supposed to " learn " from. I have no interest in being an underling for their political fights.

Please don't insert your options like they are fact. No, not every man is a monster or a creature to fear. They are human just like us women. At least give them some empathy, they are fellow peers after all. You wouldn't like it if someone judge you based on your gender, now would you?

I don't subscribe to this black and white thinking. What does making assumptions or painting someone as the bad guy solve? Nothing, all it does is isolate people and dehumanizes them. Heck, in some cases it causes a reinforces their beliefs and keep them in their echo chamber. All you are doing is spreading more resentment and malice.

If you want people to hear you out, you can't have a negative or condescending attitude. Give them basic respect and try to see eye to eye with them. People don't want to be feel like they're preached at or lectured, no matter what topic it is. You got to find a middle ground and make compromises. Sure, it might not be what you want but it's a start. It's a lot better than having screaming matches to see you can scream their political views the loudest.

On the internet people go to the extremes, it's never the middle ground. Life is full of nuances and not every situation has a one size fit all solution. Life is simply just more complicated because there's many factors.

Not everyone is your enemy nor a bad person, please show some empathy to your opponents. Who knows they might have more similarities with you than you think. I'm not saying this will fix everything but it's better that name calling.

After all what's more human than the artist of suffering? As many as we don't like to admit it, tragedies can happen to anyone at anytime. The grim reality of things is Grief, Poverty, Abuse, Trauma, etc. Point is everyone has their own stuff they are going through and just because they ain't publicly posting it online doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You're making an ass out of yourself for assuming people's lives and what they go through. People suffering through injustices all the time, why must we kick them while they're still down? Why demonize and dehumanize them?

I think what sickens me the most with all of this is the lack of humanity that people have for one another. I swear politics brings out the ugliest in people and makes them worse as a result. I hate both parties equally because both are hypocrites and inconsistent. Anyone has the capabilities of being hateful and racist, it doesn't matter which political party they are from.

It is a broken system that doesn't work with its citizens. The very people the system is trying to help.

You don't have to agree with my opinion. I respect that you have a different opinion to me and I want nuance. I don't want to creative hive mind or Echo chambers. I encourage you think for yourself and form your own opinions. Think, I beg you. Don't subscribe to what's the popular opinion is. Question your reality and your surroundings. You never know who is lying and trying to make you out to be a fool. Being skeptical pays off sometimes. Stay safe out there my friend.

This might be controversial but...I have this nagging thought...

There are always people here talking how lgbtq representation in fanfiction or fandon is often derided or unwelcome. I think that's pretty sad tbh and there are definitely a lot of trolls, bigots and all sorts of phobes out there.

But tbh, I think most average people are just tired of a particular type of lgbtq representative, and they seem to be everywhere, who forcefully insists that anyone not shipping m/m, anyone not going along with their trans headcanons, anyone who disagrees basically is a homophobe, bigot, terf etc. These people make preferences into a morality issue and I think other people are just tired of it and quietly leaving, not openly and enthusiastically cheering it on and sometimes just getting frustrated.

I was having a discussion on reddit the other day about something related to this and they said well, straight cis representation is like 99.9% of media so we (lgbtq) can have this one thing, and I said of course you can. You can have as much of it as you want in fandom but I don't like how cis/straight shipping gets shit on by these people. You don't have to tear something else down just to build yourself up. The vast majority of het shippers are just normal, nice people, just like the majority of lgbtq shippers but there are all these 'enlightened types' pushing their ships and headcanons and making it out like you're an enemy if you don't support them which is ridiculous.

I was lurking on a pretty big fanfiction forum a year or so ago and fanfiction hot takes came up and several people nervously put up their hand and said they wished there was more love for het shipping in fandom and fanfiction specifically, while doing huge long disclaimers that of course they love nd support the lgbtq community and are happy that all sorts of representation exists in fandom etc. And I think it's kinda sad that people feel they have to write this long disclaimer and pre-apologise for an opinion that's perfectly valid and innocuous because they're afraid of being vilified. If someone is cis/het it's not a crime for them to want cis/het content in their fandom, or for it to be viewed positively. Do you know what I mean? I'm sorry if I'm not explaining myself well -.-'

I feel like people are going to respond and say that cis/het stuff is already the majority but in fanfiction and shipping it's really not. And that's also not the point I'm trying to make. I'm trying to express frustration with people who think lgbtq orientated fan content is morally or in other ways superior to cis/het.

It even happens here. I remember when I first found your blog one of the very first asks I read was from someone acting quite smug and literally saying that het shippers are just superficial, horny self-inserters that want to seduce and bang the MC while they, a m/m shipper, were actually invested in plot and nuance and all those intelligent things that het shippers apparently don't get and that ask left a really bad taste in my mouth.

It's disheartening to see this kind of thing. Sorry again if I didn't express myself well. I'm just trying to say that if lgbtq representation in fandom space isn't getting recognition or people are avoiding it, an important reason might that people don't like feeling like they HAVE to support it or else...

It's ironic that you're sending this ask to me when one of the things I'm known for is compiling shipping statistics on FFN and Wattpad to prove that m/m is not the majority in fanfic fandom. This is one of my specific hobbyhorses. I find the constant spreading of this misinformation EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

Yes, there are lots of assholes going "ship my ship or you're not progressive", and they all suck, including the large number of them who yell at m/m shippers that we should ship het.

"I wish het ships got more love" is a fucking stupid opinion.

"I wish Wattpad had a functional search" or "I wish FFN weren't going down the drain" or "I wish the big het fandoms were less femsub" would all be perfectly reasonable takes that are based on actually seeking out het fandoms and hanging out with het fans. So would "I want more fellow hetshippers who have a queer sensibility but f/m ships". But for someone to act like there aren't massive het camps tells me they never bother to venture outside of their tiny bubble.

I have zero patience for fans who whine that their popular thing is unpopular because they're too lazy or clueless to go find all the zillions of other people who like it.

tips to make your fanfic more accessible (1/?)

When it comes to writing reader insert characters, or even original characters that are meant to be broadly relevant to your audience, it's important to write in a way that doesn't exclude people with marginalized identities from reading and connecting with your work. Everyone deserves to feel loved and represented! Since fanfic is an escape for so many of us, it's so crucial that the language we use is accessible and embraces the variety of people who might be reading your fic.

Disclaimer! I am a white, cis, plus size woman, and I would hate to misrepresent something, or leave things out, so I would LOVE to hear from some Black, BIPOC, trans, and/or minority readers about things that make you uncomfy/take you out of the story. I can add them to this post w/ credit, or you can comment below :)

Physical appearance:

-A big one here is hair. Not everyone has a hair texture or style that someone can lovingly comb their fingers through. Some readers (for extremely valid reasons, including the fact that in some contexts it can be rooted in racism) might not like the idea of a fictional character putting their hands in the reader's hair!

-The fix: think about what you're trying to convey with the action of hair-touching. Is it affection? Closeness? Foreplay? Could the character stroke the reader's hair instead of running their fingers through it? Could they trace the reader's ears?

-Another big one! Body ody ody! There's so much to say here, but I'll start with shape and size. Not everyone will be able to fit into their favourite fictional character's clothes. And for some plus size folks, it is just not realistic for a character to pick them up and throw them around. I love my body, and I don't know a single fictional character who would be able to lift me! This isn't embarrassing or asking for compliments, it's just my bodily reality.

-The fix: what terms do you use to describe the reader's body? Are they exclusive or implicitly biased? Is your reader lithe, with long legs and "a handful" of breast tissue? Is someone throwing your reader around like a sack of potatoes, or pinning them up against a wall, with no additional support?

Ability:

-This is a self call-out as well, but I've noticed that there aren't a lot of multi-chapter fanfics which include characters with disabilities. This is tricky, as I think a lot of writers might not necessarily have lived experience with needing mobility aids, or things like blindness and deafness, etc. I don't necessarily think that able-bodied writers should be attempting this, but it's something to think about.

-The fix: Could your character achieve their movements with a prosthetic limb? How might they experience things differently if they're overstimulated? Uplift fic writers with disabilities and diverse lived experiences! Reblog their work!

Sex and gender:

-This one is also a bit complex because writers might not know exactly where to start when it comes to writing someone with a different gender identity, or mode of presentation. Especially when you're writing explicit sex scenes, I think it's okay to write things with a specific anatomy in mind, as long as you're clear about who you're writing for from the outset (e.g. character x fem!reader in the chapter notes or A/N).

-Not everyone who likes being called "good girl" has breasts and a vagina. Some men don't have penises. Trans and intersex people exist and are incredibly LOVED and CHERISHED on this blog. <3

-The fix: If you're writing a fic where anatomy is less important, go for gender neutral terms of endearment, and gender neutral pronouns. Maybe switch things up and try writing a reader character with a different gender identity to your own!

TL;DR- 1) Uplift fanfic by underrepresented communities (this can vary by fandom, but queer/LGBTQ+, BIPOC, disabled, and neurodivergent authors are a great place to start!)

2) Do an accessibility proofread- does your reader have any characteristics that aren't broadly applicable to readers? Are these characteristics essential to the plot?

3) If you're part of a minority community, embrace the things that make you unique! Let writers know if they're excluding you. Or as a writer, write yourself down. Produce some of the representation that you can't find elsewhere (if you feel up to it).

4) Write from a place of love. We love what we write about, whether it's characters, story worlds, or one bed tropes. Extend that love to all of your readers :) <3

Know what I wanna do?

I wanna make self inserts into comics, games, etc because sometimes, you just wanna do something.

Like in Twisted Wonderland, you know when it becomes winter or the fairy gala happens, me being sensitive to extreme temperature changes causes my nose to bleed. It'd definitely shock Scarabia if I went there. But I can handle colder temperatures since I produce more heat than others, just a simple coat (preferably a rain coat) and I'm good to go all year long.

Or like in Ennead. I'd be cursing Osiris to Duat and back while playing Therapist to Isis, Set, Nephthys, Anubis and Horus.

I'd probably make a separate blog for this sort of stuff since this one is mostly for your enjoyment/satisfaction rather than my own (maybe yours too if you're interested).

Just because someone isn't attracted to a person or character (who are of different ethnicities), doesn't mean they are racist. People have their own preferences in who they are attracted to. That doesn't mean they're racist. That's just their preference in who they are attracted to.

Okay, I’m not gonna allow this to turn into a big thing like the ass eating debate BUT I think you may have taken what I said a little too personally. That wasn’t directed at any one person or even certain groups of people, and I’m not of that opinion based off one or two specific individuals. Rather it’s fandom habits as a whole, and I’ve seen enough to know that by and large black characters are overlooked in favor of their lighter skinned counterparts. I mean, black characters show up so infrequently in Japanese media anyway (and their representation is ... another topic for another day) to the point where it really is easy to see this trend in action. Even if they hit ALL their charm points and have the looks to back them up, they still get mostly ignored. Why?

I actually saw a blog on here that was writing for Naruto who, with their whole chest, said they’d write for anyone except the Kumogakure characters (and Ino which, ew, I didn’t think someone with such terrible taste actually existed but 🤷‍♀️ here we are) and what do most of the Kumo ninja look like?

(I liked Omoi a LOT and Darui was nothing to shake your finger at either - and Mabui??? Good god, shes fucking gorgeous. Shikaku absolutely should have hit that while he had the chance, I know for a goddamn fact he was (respectfully) looking. )

But anyway I’m just not sure how you can look at something like that and not see color bias - and I used that wording very intentionally. Because even if you (that’s a general you) look at black or otherwise dark complexioned characters and decide they’re just not to your “preference” there’s still an underlying factor at play wherein, on a societal level, pale is touted as being attractive and melanin isn’t considered half as beautiful. It’s conditioned.

I have yet to see ANY self insert content for the above characters, or Ogun. I’ve seen VERY LITTLE for my man Avdol compared to the rest of the cast which, imo, is particularly telling because the Jojo fandom will even lewd a sadistic mold doctor (no shade, Ciccolata fans) but this absolute unit??

Only certain writers seem willing to take him on and me, personally, I’d rather see more smut of him than, say, Polnareff or Kira (no shade, stans)

Also I’ve seen maybe a handful of fics for Tosen PERIOD - not just self insert content - and half of that was pairing him with the big dog guy

Which is, again, indicative of a deeper issue considering how much thirst the light skinned characters generate by comparison.

And also someone I’d REALLY like to see self insert content for is Lock Rock, idk if it’s because he kinda looks like Eric Andre (man crush Thursday 🤪) or what, but I am feeling it

And don’t give me that “but he’s married and has a baby!” Bullshit when we’re out here lewding married man and father of four Enji Todoroki like we’re getting paid to do it. I want to see HC’s, smut, thirst, fics, something! Anything! Please!? (Seriously tho, does anyone have a hookup for ANY content of this man? 💀)

Now, don’t get me wrong here, I’m not innocent either. Ogun will be the first black character I personally write for but he’s not the first one I’ve found attractive nor do I glance over these characters based on their skin tone. If they’re hot, they’re fucking hot! Period!

And I think that’s what this boils down to, because even though you (still a general you) may not look at them and think “ew, they’re black”, if the color of their skin is the deciding factor for you then there is still a problem here.

Are you not attracted to that character because they don’t push your buttons right or is it ultimately because of their pigmentation?

Do you find yourself unattracted to every single black character you see, regardless of their facial features and other characteristics? (For example I’m not particularly attracted to Tosen but Lock Rock?? PHEW)

Ask yourself if there’s a single black person you DO find appealing.

I understand having preferences, I in fact have my own preferences, so that’s not the issue here. It’s also not “no one else is thirsting for Ogun, they’re all racist!” But rather “there is a very observable trend in fandom spaces where every character who appears to be black gets slept on and even if it doesn’t seem like racism on a surface level, the color bias absolutely exists on a broader spectrum and, yes, Ogun is definitely suffering from it”.

That’s it. I wasn’t calling YOU (you, specifically, anon) racist just because you don’t like Ogun, I’m saying that black people are consistently pushed aside in favor of light skinned people and it happens with alarming frequency even within fandoms which just goes to show how deep this issue actually runs. And that’s all just going off of how the CHARACTERS are treated, I haven’t even touched on how black readers/black artists/black writers are treated but then go ahead and amplify that to society as a whole and surely you can see why I’m going to call it what it is.

Plus I can almost guarantee that if Ogun had been “white” (I mean, he’d just be Shikamaru then but that’s neither here nor there cmdkxksksk) he’d have SOME content. Case in point, actual psychopath and certified star lord Rekka Hoshimiya even got thirst content from the fandom whereas the only black man in the series hasn’t gotten so much as a single HC. Trust me. I’ve scrolled to the bottom of his tag at least five times now. 💀

Literally the most I’ve seen is one or two people saying how attracted they were to Ogun and that’s it. A bitch literally cannot feed herself on such meager morsels, especially when Beni’s out here getting his 20th smut fic in a row - which is an impressive number for such a small fan base. Lmao Anyway my point here is that personal preferences are fine and dandy but when I can actually see the same trend repeating itself over and over, fandom after fandom ... there’s definitely something more than preference at play here. 🤷‍♀️

I'm actually very happy my first redraw was of Don, boy deserves all the love.

Back then this looked like so much work to me!!! And to this day, I think it turned out pretty well. I'm particularly proud of how the bow turned out. This is one I was really proud of right after having finished it; it gave me the confidence to try redrawing bigger areas. Also, the edit were I first applied the opacity of layer / opacity of brush for the gray filter that would have stuck with me.

Probably the single panel redraw I'm the most proud of. That Norman panel was beautiful and very poignant at the end of a chapter I adored, so I believe it deserved all the time I've spent working on it. It's far from being perfect - the back of his head is too plain, and the difference between my brushes and the original brushes is pretty visible - but I still like it very much and am extremely attached to it. The horn looks kinda big but I honestly believe it to be more of an issue with the original than with what I had redrawn lol. Funny enough, the whole picture didn't make it to the final edit and had to be trimmed.

I think the panels that were selected work very well together, especially considering the close-up / full body alternation. I love Emma, and I've always been kinda sad noticing that edits that focus one her take the less notes... She deserves all the love. Also, fun fact: for the last but one panel, I had redrawn Emma's whole left ear before remembering she doesn't have one, so I had to redraw the panel from the start. Besides from the error with the ear, the reason why this (and all the others after) took so long is because official panel take way longer to clean.

I don't even like Isabella that much, I haven't got the slightlest idea why I decided to spend so many hours on this. Anyway, I find the composition (full body on the left / headshots on the right) really good looking in this as well! And I think the redraws turned out fine, especially Isabella's.

I don't know how I came up with that idea for the composition but I find it really beautiful??? I think it does a pretty good job conveying the sudden, terrific shift of atmosphere from the first chapter, and I think that sharp bridge is very nice. I'm very, very proud of this.

A very good chapter, and the edit turned out surprisingly amazing??? All the redraws look great and make it almost impossible to distinguish them from the original; honestly I feel like I'll never be able to redraw so neatly again lol.

That one is really one of my favorite scenes; I'm telling you peoples, Gilda and Don are a blessing to the earth. I think I've never mentioned it, but Gilda's hair is a nightmare to redraw??? I was so glad to finally be able to make a Norman / Ray edit, and it turned out it was just in time before the series' finale. I like how it turned out and I'm pretty satisfied with the redraws (even though my sister helped me with the lineart of some panels - it was exams time and I really couldn't afford to spend more time on it), too bad we didn't have more chapters that focused on the boys. Ray sweetie one day I'll fix your ear it's just today's not that day.

Btw, I justed realized I have never done an Emma / Norman centered edit? I'll have to make one eventually. I remember considering focusing on them alone for the chapter 154 one, but then I thought "even if the manga is gonna ignore Ray, I will chose to do not" lol.

I REALLY LOVE IT! I mean it *was* kinda stressing to note everything, but it was very also very satisfying to see everything methodically divided and organized! And it's not just that– it's also the fact that it looks good. That's one post I have fun rereading because it's actually pretty! Also, even though it can be very stressing to learn to use new programs and sites, it's always very satisfying to look at the final result. Again, I really adore compiling these tiny little details! I would love to make more posts of that kind if i had the time.

So, like what happens is you guys don't see the skins of the youtubers as the people but like separate entities ??? i'm having a hard time understanding how you do that because it's like, impossible because the minecraft skins they used were them, literally. mitch's skin was supposed to look exactly like him. their personalities were like that, they're real people but y'all aren't treating them like that and it's just kind of confusing from like, an outside perspective

yes! in a nutshell, I view the mc avatars as completely different people from the actual human beings behind them-- I don’t, for example, conflate Sky with Adam. I treat Sky as a fictional character (essentially Adam’s OC) and recognize that Adam is his own, actual, real human being, who you can’t just make up headcanons or AUs for.

this blog is meant to celebrate and remember the online personas the team constructed, rather than the specific people behind them; I very deliberately try to avoid using anyone’s real names (Mitch, Ian, etc) and instead stick to the “avatar” names (Bajan, SSun) for exactly this purpose! also, while I do draw some inspiration from the real people, I focus my designs more on how I view the character than what their creator looks like in reality

I get that certain skins were meant to reflect people (Mitch’s especially) and that their personalities were genuinely like that, yes-- but the personas they cultivated through their videos come across as very fictionalized, and I like to take that aspect of it-- I never was a big fan of, for example, the vlogs or team house (rest in pieces). call it a holdover from my wattpad era, but I sincerely and genuinely distinguish their avatars from their actual selves.

in summary, I believe that the “real people” and their online images were intentionally different enough to warrant them being treated differently; I acknowledge that the creators of the Team Crafted “characters” are real people that I can’t just go around making up headcanons for. I think it’s fair to treat Sky, Deadlox, and TrueMU as fictional characters to headcanon, redesign, and write, because they’re essentially just Adam, Ty, and Jason’s (perhaps self-insert) OCs. 

I’m open to discussion on this topic though! if anyone wants to have an in-depth conversation (or point out why anything I’m saying here could be sketchy and I should therefore, yknow, rethink myself), feel free to IM me!
