finally watched that one defunctland video
#it was really good btw#defunctland#disney#i remembered one (1) trip with the magic bands and yeah it was kinda crazy#also we just got back from a trip and the parks were so so so crowded#more than i ever remembered them being#we did not get into cosmic rewind even tho we tried the virtual queue right when it opened#and the line for ratatouille never dipped below like 180 minutes so. basically we did not go on most of the rides at epcot#but we had a lot of fun!#meanwhile on the merch side of things#the pin prices went wayy up (well all the prices did)#but the selection was so bad#the weirdest part was like#idk if theyre just reworking their merch rn? or what#but i saw so few pins based on attractions! which was a bummer#this was basically an excuse for me to ramble in the tags. anyway

hhh found some photos of old disney trips from several years back and it just made me really sad that the parks are nothing like what they were back then anymore. i still feel like it was probably best in the 90s and early 2000s (from what i've seen in videos documenting that time frame, and from the few trips my fam went on as well), but i ended up visiting more often in the 2010s and i still really enjoyed it;;
i miss walking around and just drinking in the atmosphere and theming honestly. sucks that its a mess now and you're paying so dang much for lackluster quality and there's no room for spontaneous flexibility within your visit because of the stupid genie+ app and insane wait times for Everything. the fact that there's no real "off season" anymore because it's Always Busy is a terrible reality as well. *sigh*
#nothing compares to the atmosphere of the disney parks and thats what makes it so sad that it's changed a lot#i've also heard that cleanliness has degraded a lot as well#which isn't . good.#never been big on most universal IPs#so that park never interested me cuz i have no attachment to anything offered within it#but i have been a few times since i stopped going to disney and i did enjoy it; mostly just the islands of adventure#but even still i do miss wandering around epcot and animal kingdom the most :'c#universal doesn't really come close to that but hopefully the new epic universe will prove to be better than where disney's at now#anyway . i just got hit with a wave of nostalgia for a time that can't ever be replicated again i guess#i'm glad i could enjoy those trips while i could tho#spectre says#(not letting anyone reblog this because i dont want to accidentally start any Discourse lol)#OK WAIT CORRECTION.#universal's portofino hotel is absolutely GORGEOUS and i genuinely loved it so so much#and volcano bay was really fun and immersive too; mega props to them for that one#so universal does have some offerings that i really liked!!!#but as a whole i just like some of the theming of the disney parks better; mostly the stuff that doesn't rely on existing IP

thinking about the message in a bottle i left on the wall by the sea in boston 2 years ago. wondering if it blew off the wall and broke and was carried away by seagulls, or if one day i’ll get an email saying it was found.

Who cried on two separate occasions today over animatronic Disney dragons?
#🎃 cryptid sighting#1st time was watching the first video of a full ride-through I’ve ever seen of the original Journey into Imagination @ Epcot#I don’t think I’ve seen clear video of anything besides the Dreamfinder’s flying machine set so that was amazing#Dreamfinder & Figment have been big comfort characters since I was little so seeing the whole ride all the way through? Waterworks#(esp. seeing they had a whole set dedicated to the creepier/darker side of the imagination. That got me ok?)#And then … well … finding out about Murphy’s destruction at Disneyland’s Fantasmic last night (Saturday). :(#I’ve seen Murphy many times (and the show itself many more- back in the ‘dragon on a stick’ days) so that was heartbreaking seeing her go#I’m so glad all the cast are alright but damn Murphy lived up to her namesake of Murphy’s Law one last time#She went up in a literal blaze of glory. RIP Murphy you beautiful monstrosity#She was truly a remarkable piece of art#(Malificent dragons just can’t catch a break can they? Sheesh.)#To say it’s been an emotional roller coaster of a day for very unexpected reasons would be a massive understatement#Fire tw#< in case any of you go looking up Murphy.
