'everyone knows science high schools in the Philippines are actually part time performing arts schools'
??? How,
oki i'll admit i was kinda joking when i said that jdjsjs but yea it's a common comparison here and apparently a lot of people from ph sci high schools can confirm this (I'm in a facebook group with many students from sci high schools in the ph and un yup that's the general consensus). I'm just speaking from my own experience (dunno what hell the other sci high schools make their students do) and um yea every subject had a monthly, heck even WEEKLY acting/dancing/singing output. Be it history, science or even MATH, we were often told to make something performing-artsy to pass. Let's see hmm okay this will be very long:
+ in history and social science classes, we made A LOT of songs. THERE WERE SO MANY SONGS ABOUT MONKS AND ECONOMICS AND WHAT-NOT. I HAD TO WRITE SO MANY STUFF.
+ SCIENCE MADE US DO A LOT OF SHORT FILMS. 8TH GRADE SCIENCE MADE US PRESENT A VIDEO ALMOST EVERY FUCKING MEETING. 9TH GRADE SCIENCE MADE US ACT ALMOST EVERY FUCKING MEETING. WE HAD DAILY SCIENCE CLASSES. AAAAAA also yup songs, dances, you name it, we did it (and yup that also includes the elective science subjects so yea 9th graders and 10th graders had 3 SCI SUBS ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY SO THAT WAS VERY TIRING well the research subject didn't really make us do anything acting bUT RESEARCH IS ANOTHER TYPE OF HELL AND I THANK RESEARCH FOR THE BURN MARKS ON MY LEG THAT STILL WON'T GO AWAY)
+ so the M in Math now stands for music videos YES WE HAD TO MAKE SONGS AND YES WE HAD TO MAKE SO MANY MUSIC VIDEOS AAA GOD HOW THE HELL DID WE SURVIVE THAT
+ MAPEH (music, arts, physical education and health) is pretty self explanatory wah lots of acting lots of singing lots of short films lots of stage plays lots of music videos and LOTS of dancing. way too much dancing. This subject turned me into a swing dancer and a cheerdancer. This subject sucked.
+ English and Filipino subs are comparable to literal acting camps. i'd also compare these subs to the closest thing i'll ever get to actually attending a performing-arts class. name literally all the performing arts stuff in the world and YUP WE DID THOSE. there were the usual "act out this entire book" stuffs esp for Filipino (Ibong Adarna, Florante at Laura, Noli Me Tangere, and El Filibusterismo yup we had full on class productions of those). I would consider this a highlight tho: one time our 9th grade filipino teacher moved the date of the interpretative dance performance (to a song that we had to write on our own) the day after she announced that she'd be moving it. so my group STAYED AT SCHOOL TIL 7 PM AND HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER CLASSMATE'S HOUSE TO PRACTICE TIL MIDNIGHT (heck some groups actually forced all of their members to practice and sleep overnight at their groupmate's house) . THEN WE WENT TO SCHOOL EARLY AND PRACTICED BEFORE CLASSES, DURING RECESS, DURING LUNCH AND JUST PRAYED THAT WE WOULDN'T COLLAPSE DURING THE PERFORMANCE. AND THE TEACHER DIDN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SHE COMPLETELY FUCKED US UP.
+ I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE SCHOOL PROGRAMS YET OH SHIT THAT'LL TAKE AGES TO COVER
So yea all in all we had to accomplish every single performing arts thingy imaginable (without any proper instruction on how to pull that off if i may add) for every single subject and yes it was a literal mountainpile of work. thanks to sci high, i really learned on how to act, sing, write songs, write scripts, direct films, direct roleplays, dance in ballroom style, become a freaking cheerdancer, dance in like many different styles, make music videos, make many many stage props, dresses and costumes from virtually nothing and many more. but i guess the main thing that made the workload literal hell was that the teachers always made sure that as science high school students, we knew that we were "the cream of the crop" and "better than everyone else" (yes i know super fucking prideful and narcissistic right?) and that our outputs should reflect that. they weren't expecting awkward school plays, they demanded performances worthy of a tony award. SO YEA WE HAD TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE THE TEACHERS DIDN'T ACCEPT ANYTHING ELSE WOO GO SCI HIGH SCHOOLERS

/JANUARY SEVEN/
Yesterday we performed our cheerdance for our project in MAPEH. I enjoyed it because I realized that it feels like we had our YLI over again. We performed together with 10N, 10E, 10A and 10F. Unfortunately other sections wasn’t able to perform their cheerdance, idk what exactly the reason is.
We gained lots of memories practicing during christmas break and we also had lots of misunderstandings and complaints while making the dance but in the end it was all worth it. We won as champions, AGAIN and good thing there was that we didn’t expect that. We accepted already that we will not be the champs because of course there was 10N and they’re so talented and their dance is better than us but when we watched the video of our presentation, we danced well. Idk how that happened because while practicing we’re so stressed about our formations, our dance moves and everything. Thank you, Lord. Indeed, this school year is so memorable for us. We achieved lots of great things as a class. Sadly, this school year is almost over. This is another memory I would treasure the most. <3
