Our epic tale began on a cold, wintery eve. Under the dim light of a moon hidden by snowy clouds, the city transformed. Walls creaked and crumbled, rebuilt in an instant in new shapes; new forms. The modern metropolis was replaced with a realm crafted from sugary treats. Gingerbread walls, gumdrop roads, cinnamon stick trees, candy castles. For this was now a fantasy candy land: the realm of the Candy Witch.

"AWAKEN, WOULD-BE INVADERS!"

The witch's voice would boom, a thunderous sound with a tinge of familiarity to it. "You dare encroach upon my land? The Candy Witch's kingdom? Well then, I challenge you. Find me at the tippy top of my castle tower, but not before my trials are passed! Only then might you challenge me and, if you win, I may consider a way to send you home!"

In front of every non-NPC entity in the city a holographic paper appeared. A character sheet. "But the witch would not leave you without a means of accomplishing your tasks," Another voice spoke. It sounded similar to the witch's, but was much gentler. Almost as if there was a singular actor playing two different roles. "Will you take up a blade as the noble HEARTBREAKER? Perhaps you would prefer to cast the spells of the PASSION CASTER? Does the healing power of the LOVE DOCTOR tickle your fancy? Or does the path of the thieving HEART STEALER beckon to you? Fill out your character sheets and review the attached quest list, and let your journey begin!"

THE VOICE GOES SILENT

While the people of Spirale would hear nothing else for now, in a dark lab a young woman turned off her microphone. "I'm an android, I'm not supposed to be an actress..." Ofiuco rested her cheek gentle in front of her keyboard. "Oh well. I've always wanted to try LARPing, so why not give this a go? I think everyone could use something a little silly for a change, especially with Valentine's coming!"

OVERVIEW

Welcome to our 33rd event, SUGAR QUEST IV: THAT MOMENTARY SWEETNESS! This event was inspired by a mix of old RPG games and silly mobile game events. So what's going on?

The people of the city are awoken to the sound of a familiar voice claiming to be the Candy Witch who issues you a challenge: pass her trials and find her at the top of the castle tower.

Everyone will fill out a quick character sheet that can be found on this page, which will determine your stats, class, and abilities!

The wards of the city have all been redesigned with a candy fantasy aesthetic, and you can find these changes listed in a section below. For the duration of the event you cannot access the branches.

Trials will be offered in the form of quests that can be chosen at your leisure. Participating in a quest is not mandatory for acquiring participation, but you will receive a flat 200 Stars for your character's account. You can only claim this 200 Stars once, so doing multiple quests will not net you more.

If you're just interested in event participation, any interaction will count regardless of whether it's in a quest or not! We'll also be offering Oficucotot, Bringer of Love as an exclusive event reward! She's a six inch, Ofiuco-shaped drone that follows after you and shoots tiny arrows at your foes. Not lethal, but very annoying! The item description reads: "Watch Your Eyes!".

The event ends at 11:59:59PM on Friday, February 28th.

F.A.Q.

Will this event have a part 2? No! There is only one part to this event. There will be a raid battle during the last week of the event where everyone can face off against the Candy Witch, however.

Can we use our regular powers and weapons during this event? Unfortunately not! Your character has been stripped of their powers and had their physical abilities reduced to that of a normal human. You can only rely on the abilities and weapons provided by the class you choose and your character sheet stats! For non-humanoid characters, please reach out to the masterlist for accommodations!

Are the listed monsters the only ones in the setting? Nope! Those are just suggestions. You can design your own monsters to face, and even the ones listed alongside the locations are open to visual interpretation aside from the traits already listed.

Will my character undergo any visual changes during this event? Your selected class will grant you specific gear and weapons as part of that selection. Otherwise, nope! At least unless you disturb the fairies in the forest...

Are we required to use the quests for our threads? Nope! You can use them if you want the 200 Star reward, but it isn't mandatory to do a quest to get participation and the Ofiucotot, Bringer of Love. You can just do a different thread in the setting!

「⚖️」 "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, good morning. My name is Aurelius Vane-Tempest, and it is my pleasure to represent the city of Spirale as a prosecutor on this tragic case."

As the din in the gallery died down, the bespectacled blond lawyer read off his opening remarks to both judge and jury.

"On November 15th, 2024, the defendant in this matter, a Mr. Eiden Itadori, was found on the steps of SP*T besides the dead body of Mr. Ron Mann, well-known family man and beloved philanthropist to the community. Mr. Mann was determined to have died from blunt force trauma to the cranial region from a weaponized toy sold on Mr. Itadori's premises."

His voice was smooth and even, carrying no inflection besides the ones needed for dramatic effect. There was a storybook quality to the way he detailed the crime, the collection of the body, and the charges pressed against Eiden afterwards.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is a case about a man who could not control his strength, who lost his cool at a crucial moment to commit involuntary manslaughter on the unlucky victim. Despite this, justice must be upheld."

"At the conclusion of the case, and after you have heard all the evidence, we are confident that you will return a verdict of guilty."

Thus finished, the angel prosecutor set down his papers and politely indicated to the judge that the defense could go next.

Today, the case of Eiden Itadori vs. The City of Spirale was formally in session.

｢𓆄｣ This was...More disorienting than he originally thought it would be. But, maybe that was his fault by taking to the skies rather than keeping himself grounded. But that was the opposite of what he stood for.

It's when he's flying over a patch of orchid that catches his eye, if not for the soft color of it all, but the fact there are specklings of his own goldenrod color.

Which...Could only mean one thing! This put him at the flower patches in Archimedes...Yeah, that made sense, actually.

Rapidly, the pro hero began his descent, only letting up so he could have a smooth and graceful landing. And, beside her, he perched, flaring one wing over her head as a means to block out the sun.

"There you are! I didn't think you'd be a person for purple, but it really works for you. You're still doing your daily quests? You didn't want to go out and explore this big ol Spirale themed coloring book?"

She hasn't had the chance to check out the library until now. Golden Ward is just so, so far away, and she just can't, can't find the energy. Even now, she felt drained, felt empty, but somehow, someway, she'd dragged herself all the way across the city. She pays no heed to the inky black footprints she leaves behind as she trudges to the university, and finally, to the library.

Part of her felt that she should've been elated at seeing so many books, with no one to judge her reading. Even the few grayscale island residents that hovered around all seemed preoccupied with themselves, leaving her alone.

Nier picked the first one off the shelf that caught her interest, but as soon as her fingers brushed the spine and opened the cover, the black began to spread. It rushed over the pages, blotting out the words and rendering the whole thing unreadable.

Looking up, Nier spots the man who had told her about the library in the first place. Now, part of her feels like she should be heartbroken, but instead, she doesn't feel anything.

"Eiden, look..." she says, voice somewhere between a whimper and a monotone. "The pages are ruined, how can I read it like this? How can anyone read it...?"

She puts the book back on the shelf, and already, the black begins to spread to the neighboring volumes. Watching the color spread like hungry tendrils, Nier sighs. "Ah... Maybe I shouldn't have come here after all..."

Sunlight poured into Café December, casting a healthy glow on vibrant plants, books, and patrons alike. At one of the tables near the wall, Hiyori held a soothing cup of chamomile tea to his lips. Beside him was a cup currently ignored, the one who had ordered it browsing away amongst the books.

When the door pushed open, Hiyori's eyes snapped over to examine the new arrival. His already racing heart picked up speed, and he eagerly waved Constantine over to their table.

"He's here," he said to Nagisa over his shoulder, bringing the other's attention back from the worlds bound between the covers. Nagisa shelved the book he held at the moment, red eyes joining Hiyori's on the newcomer. He smiled softly.

That expression eased Hiyori's nerves. As much as he'd wanted this meeting to happen eventually — and he had called Constantine about this almost immediately — he hadn't been prepared for it now.

"Good morning~ Thank you for coming to join us so quickly!" his cheery greeting hid it better than his tightly-crossed legs. With a gesture to his companion with his free hand, he continued: "This is my dearest friend and family, Nagisa! I may have mentioned many things about him, but it doesn't measure up to the real thing, does it? ♪"

Nagisa bowed his head. "...Yes. My name is Nagisa Ran. You are Hiyori's partner, I've been told."

Hiyori's face reddened a bit, but he held his tongue.

Still wearing that warm smile, Nagisa took his seat at Hiyori's side. A distinctly ethereal feeling emanated from him, like an angel playing at being one with humanity.

It was a normal cardboard box, blank but about the size of the average microwave. It was tilted on its side, and sure enough, when they next opened the flaps a new bowl was present and piping hot.

"Want some? I'm still only halfway through mine."

ALTERNATIVE ALLEGORY Elminster awoke with the usual pain in his body but before he'd even opened his eyes he knew something was different. He could still remember the struggles of his rich life in Faerûn, but it was like something had invaded those memories like ink spreading to more paper than it should have. He could remember old companions and friends, the Weave, Mystra, the mighty Aumar name... But what was this about a hero with mouse ears? Mickey... Mickey Mouse was his name. His old apprentice. A troublemaker if there ever was one, but one pure of heart. Looking around the room, he now saw everything in a different light- magic was still the Weave, but it was also... light. Light and goodness, hope. Elminster had only ever seen the Weave and its endless bounds, but now he saw that magic could be in all things. More importantly? He knew that it had to be protected from those that did not understand.

Yes, maybe losing his puppets is the price he's expected to pay for protection from Them, but-- but-- the creators of this world could at least give him a replacement for his servants! Dropping him into the middle of an unfamiliar realm with nothing but the shirt on his back and a mockery of his Codex in his hand? It's unfair! It's criminal!

It's exactly what he deserves, but that doesn't mean he has to like it.

"Enough of this beating around the bush. I've made it very clear what I'm looking for, and if that means aligning myself against whatever passes for law enforcement around here, then so be it." How much more direct can he be? He wants something powerful, magical or otherwise, and he couldn't give less of a damn how Ms. Jenson has sourced it.

ALL BEANS: On your utility belt, you’ll find a bag of magic jelly beans, with properties that will aid your adventure! This bundle of flavours all have different abilities– when thrown to the ground, the marshmallow bean creates a smoke bomb, obscuring your enemies vision and leaving you with a way to escape. The green apple bean creates a powder blast that can knock back your foes, while the lemon bean stuns and paralyzes anyone it hits. Last but not least is the spicy bean, that can melt the locks off of doors and treasure chests! ★ [ CROSS CLASS. ] BUBBLEGUM BAZOOKA: Summoning a bright pink and blue weapon made of magic, this spell allows you to shoot three consecutive bursts of gum directly at your enemy; trapping them in a great big sticky mess! This is a great way to get enemies off of your back, allowing your party to get the upper hand, or to make your great escape! ★ [ CROSS CLASS. ] CINNAMON HEARTS: Replenish your party’s health with a burst of fiery cinnamon passion! This spell ignites the core of your target’s heart, inspired by those warm fuzzy feelings to keep on going!

November was perhaps the most frustrating time of the year for Ofiuco. The Stars were always running maintenance on the island's functionality, making sure that even in a worst case scenario there would still be systems to fall back on if things went wrong outside of their own plans. It didn't happen often, but sometimes things slipped in that they didn't intend on.

But every November the Stars performed a big backup of the island's data. It was a lot of work, and involved pausing the city altogether so that the citizens that lived there had no idea that anything was amiss. That day, in this year's case November 8th, would feel like it had happened to them. Even though it actually hadn't.

"Why does this always fall on me to do? It's boring..." Ofiuco knew the reason. Her main body had evolved past her original schematics, but her robot body within the island's setting had all of the tools installed to make the data backup easier. None of the other Stars were allowed to touch that body since it was an extension of herself.

Ofiuco wasn't focused on the task at hand like she should have been though, so she didn't notice that she had accidentally hit the wrong button. "OOPS!?" At least until it was too late. Just like that, everyone's data in the city had been wiped. "...Good thing this is why we have backups in the first place." Everyone in the city was reconstructed from that backup, but something was wrong. Something that Ofiuco didn't catch at all.

All of the character data had been reinstated but it was jumbled. Characters were recreated as if they came from different worlds altogether, which would lead to a crisis that only some were able to realize. But how long would it take for the Stars to notice?

WHAT'S GOING ON?

Welcome to our last new event of 2024, ALTERNATIVE ALLEGORY!

Ofiuco made a little oopsie that slipped past her radar and accidentally deleted everyone's character data during the yearly big backup. Good thing she had the previous day's basic backup to reinstate them!

But something corrupted the backup, and while all of the characters were reinstated, all of the data has been jumbled up.

Because of this, the characters have been recreated as if they were from different worlds altogether.

Think of this as a chance to design an AU for your character, like Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia as if he were an Ace Attorney character, for example!

All threads must be set on November 9th or later. The characters will believe they lived through November 8th, but the city was in maintenance mode on that day and wasn't actually active!

This event will run until 11:59:59PM EST on Friday, November 29th!

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR DESIGNING OUR CHARACTER'S AU?

You can pick any series from the masterlist to design an AU version of your character from! You only require mun permission if you're using an original character's world instead. You cannot use a series that is not on our masterlist.

You can design an entire backstory for that character as if they're from that world, however you must abide by our fandom OC policies. This means you cannot give them direct ties to any characters from that canon.

Similarly, you can give them powers or change their appearances according to the setting but must abide by our fandom OC policies regarding what is or what isn't acceptable. That means you can't give them any powers that rival or surpass the main characters. Powers are uncapped for this event so this isn't too limiting.

You aren't required to AU your character if you don't want to! That said, if you want participation for this event you will need to write with someone who is AUed.

Whether your character realizes they have been AUed and remember their original canon or not is up to you! Do whatever you think works better for what you plan!

You can change your character's AU if you'd like! You're not bound to one for the whole event, you can have several!

To make it easier for others to keep track of what you've done, we recommend making a post describing the AU and everything that has changed.

｢𓆄｣ He was sure the other had it! But, just to steal the thunder, here came the pro-hero, stealing yet someone else's thunder, and driving his crimson blade down the skull of the CPN, obliterating it in one shot, no thanks to his own upbringing.

"Close one! You almost got got." Reclaiming his katana from the now lifeless CPN, the heteromorph fluttered to the ground.

"There seems to be no end of them in sight, huh?"

It's a familiar story Sometimes things just happen on this island, and it's all anyone can do to just hold just the tide sweeps them away. You can try to resist, but that's the point?

There isn't a point.

There never was a point.

Nier looks down at her hands, finding something wrong and nothing wrong. If there was something wrong, it wouldn't matter, so nothing's wrong.

Nothing is wrong.

Everything is just as it should be.

Something might hurt, if there were anything left. Even the sight of a familiar face does nothing to bring Nier back from whatever precipice she finds herself on. Hadn't she mentioned something like this the last time they spoke? It's all running together in her mind.

"Mika... This isn't normal, is it? The city is grey, the sky isn't blue, everything's..." She lifts her head up, expression blank. "Well... I guess it doesn't matter, does it? Maybe it's just like this now. Or maybe it'll have ended the next time we wake up. What can we do about it? There's nothing to do..."

"...Oh. Hiyori, I see stones in the window there."

"Do you? I've never looked in that store." Directed by Nagisa's focused stare, Hiyori drew closer to the display window of one of the shops along Fibonacci's surface. This one seemed to sell gemstones and accessories that prominently featured them. Led along by a green leash, Bloody Mary pranced up beside the two.

As he stood by the glass himself, Nagisa held a hand up to his chin thoughtfully. "...I would like to step inside, but I don't know if Bloody Mary will be allowed in."

"We can always come back♪" Hiyori noted cheerfully, and then his eyes caught on a low movement along the same path they'd been following. A golden retriever was approaching! And a well-dressed man, too, but the dog was what initially had his eyes going wide in appreciation.

"Wow~ You have a beautiful dog," he addressed the man with the golden retriever. Nodding confidently, he stated, "Well-groomed, certainly!"

Mindful of both his dog and the other's, he didn't move from where he stood. The little yorkshire terrier moved further behind him rather than any closer to the strangers.
