If you are using oral corticosteroids, such as beclomethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone, it is important not to overuse or misuse Aloe vera juice. A potassium deficiency can develop, and you may experience toxic effects from the medication.

Allergies to aloe vera are very rare. Yet any food can be a potential allergen. Test a small amount on the inner arm to see if any reaction takes place. If no irritation on the skin is observed then it is generally tolerated. If ingestion causes diarrhoea, then reduce the amount you ingest, increasing use slowly over several days until the desired amount is tolerated.
Surprising Facts About Aloe Vera
With a history that extends back 6,000 years, Aloe vera is believed to have originated in the Sudan.
Although it resembles a cactus, Aloe is a member of the lily family.
There are 400 species of the Aloe vera plant.
Aloe’s health benefits are supported by nearly 700 published scientific and clinical studies.
Aloe vera offers over 200 biologically active amino acids, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and enzymes.
Both Ayurvedic medicines in India and Traditional Chinese Medicine utilise Aloe vera.
Aloe vera is the second most frequently used ingredient in Hispanic culture and, in Asian culture, is second only to red ginseng.
Native Americans called it the “Wand of the Heaven.”
Aloe vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis, has been a staple for thousands of years in many cultures around the world. Today, it’s used in lotions, ointments, creams, sunburn remedies, and cosmetics, among other things. Traditional uses for aloe vera include soothing burns, moisturising skin, and healing small wounds. Many people even apply it to reduce the appearance of acne. Aloe vera offers a wide range of nutritional benefits that support more than just skin health. Let’s take a look at some other uses you may not know about.
1. Aloe Vera Supports the Immune System
The immune system requires oxygen-rich blood. Aloe vera supports nutrient absorption, a key factor in maintaining blood-oxygen levels. Oddly enough, one of the ways aloe does this is by keeping the digestive tract clean through bowel regularity.
Aloe also acts as an adaptogen, which keeps cells in balance. It helps protect them from stress and other factors that disrupt their function, in turn making it easier for the immune system to do its job.
Aloe vera is an abundant source of polysaccharides. Research shows these complex sugars improve the efficiency of the immune system. Aloe is also rich in the antioxidants that protect against free radicals.
2. Aloe Vera Supports Normal Digestion
Aloe vera contains two enzymes — amylase and lipase — that are helpful for encouraging normal digestion. Aloe also helps keep your stomach acid levels balanced to support a normal gut environment.
Some preliminary research suggests aloe may also help with ulcerative colitis, a condition in which ulcers form in the intestines. In a clinical trial, 30 patients suffering from the condition were given aloe vera. Fourteen of the thirty patients reported some form of improvement; only four patients in the placebo group reported improvement.
Aloe contains acemannan. Acemannan and other polysaccharides are prebiotics that supports probiotics in the gut. When you have these ‘good guys’ in your gut, you’re apt to digest your food better, get more nutritional value from it, and just enjoy better health. A University of California, Davis study found people who consumed aloe vera absorbed vitamin C and vitamin B12 better.
3. Helps Relieve Symptoms of IBS?
Irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, affects many people. Common symptoms include gas, diarrhoea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. Many people have reported experiencing relief after taking aloe supplements.
4. Rich in Vitamins and Minerals
Aloe is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including:
Vitamin A (beta-carotene): Important for healthy skin, teeth, bones, and eyes.
Vitamin C: Vital for energy creation, skin health, and immune function.
Vitamin E: Protects the skin from UV damage.
Vitamin B12: Keep’s nerve and brain cells healthy. Necessary to replicate DNA.
Folic acid: Essential for brain function, liver health, and energy creation.
Choline: Supports metabolism and the neurotransmitters needed for memory, focus, and a positive mood.
Aloe contains calcium, chromium, copper, selenium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, and zinc, all of which are integral to energy creation, hormone balance, cellular reproduction, and immune system function.
5. Aloe Vera is a Great Source of Nutrients and Enzymes
Aloe vera is often called a superfood because, in addition to vitamins and minerals, it offers more than 200 other bioavailable nutrients. It’s especially rich in the following enzymes, which support energy creation, hormone function, digestion, and toxin removal:
Alliinase
Alkaline phosphatase
Amylase
Bradykinase
Carboxypeptidase
Catalase
Cellulase
Lipase
Peroxidase
There is a group of nutrients known as secondary metabolites which are only found in aloe. Some of these include aloe emodin, chrysophanol, aloesin, and aloin. Research shows these nutrients can offer a number of other important health benefits.
6. Aloe Supports Cardiovascular Health
Phytosterols are beneficial compounds in plants and aloe vera is a particularly rich source. Phytosterols help balance LDL cholesterol levels and support cardiovascular health. In a five-year study of 5,000 heart disease patients, researchers found those who consumed aloe vera and another plant called ‘Husk of Isabgol’ had better cholesterol and blood sugar numbers.
7. Aloe Vera Boosts Dental Health
A recent study involving 345 participants suggests aloe makes an effective mouthwash that supports healthy teeth and gums. Another study found that aloe vera gel can help fight Candida albicans, a common mouth fungus.
8. Aloe Fights Harmful Organisms
Some plants contain a variety of chemicals and compounds that serve as antiseptic agents and help combat harmful organisms. Aloe vera itself contains six powerful antiseptic agents the human body is able to use: lupeol, salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, cinnamic acid, phenols, and sulphur.
9. Aloe Vera is Ultra Soothing
One of the best uses for aloe vera is to soothe all types of red, swollen, irritated tissue. It contains an enzyme called bradykinase that helps reduce irritation.
10. Aloe Vera May Have Anti-Ageing Properties
It appears aloe vera does more than soothe and moisturise. It also offers anti-aging benefits that clear the appearance of wrinkles from the inside out. In one study, 30 women over the age of 45 took an aloe vera gel supplement for 90 days. By the end of the study, the appearance of their facial wrinkles decreased and their skin looked better.
In Conclusion
Aloe vera does a lot more than soothe a sunburn. It’s good for skin and is a potent superfood that delivers powerful nutrition. There are several ways to harness the benefits of aloe vera. You can take it as a juice, a gel, or in pill form. When choosing an aloe supplement, check the ingredients. Some products include ingredients other than aloe vera and may not contain the nutrients, ingredients, or concentrations you expect, acemannan in particular.
What Is Acemannan?
Acemannan pronounced “ace-man-nan”, is a polysaccharide found in the inner part of aloe vera leaves. It’s actually the component that sets aloe vera apart from the 400+ other species of aloe plants. Acemannan has many nutritional qualities and is largely responsible for the benefits aloe vera offers.
Do All of Aloe Vera’s Health Benefits Come from Acemannan?
Aloe vera offers many health benefits and you’ve probably noticed that there are a lot of aloe vera products on the market. Topical products like lotions and creams take advantage of aloe vera’s unique ability to soothe skin. Aloe vera also offers a wealth of internal benefits. For example, studies have shown that formulas with acemannan outperform other remedies for oral wounds.
There’s a lot of evidence to suggest that, when ingested, aloe vera supports immune health, is very soothing, and even aids digestion. Some research indicates that acemannan can help support normal blood sugar and triglyceride levels. As beneficial as acemannan is, there is a matrix of other vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients working together within the plant.
Best Way to Consume Acemannan
The best way to ensure you’re getting acemannan is to verify that the aloe vera product you’ve chosen is made from the inner aloe vera leaf, not the outer leaf or whole leaf. There are big differences between the inner and outer leaf. For instance, certain compounds within the outer leaf are known to cause severe gastric distress, stay clear!
What about consuming fresh aloe vera straight from the leaf? Certainly doable, but not everyone appreciates the taste, as aloe vera can be bitter and overpowering, even when mixed with juices or smoothies. It’s also difficult to consume the gel from the inner aloe vera leaf without ending up with part of the outer leaf and all that comes with it.
What About Aloe Vera Juice?
Some people prefer aloe vera juice but it can be difficult to find a juice made with only inner leaf aloe vera. Even juices that are made using the gel from the inner aloe vera leaf may still contain other additives.

Hemorrhoids(Piles) — swollen, inflamed venous cushions in the anal canal — can be occasionally painful and itchy and can cause bleeding. But you can avoid these irritating symptoms with some simple lifestyle changes.
“First, realize that hemorrhoids normally do not hurt, but may bleed painlessly, says colorectal surgeon Massarat Zutshi, MD.
Aloe vera
The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera may help soothe inflammation of hemorrhoids. Although research isn’t available for its use for hemorrhoids specifically, it has shown some benefit for other inflammatory skin conditions.
Doctor’s advice: This is safe to try if it’s pure aloe (and not in cream with other ingredients).
Epsom salts and glycerin
Tumblr media
Hakim Hasan Agha..Epsom salt Image.
This less-known home treatment can help painful hemorrhoids. Use these simple ingredients to make a compound that you apply directly to the inflamed area:
Mix 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts with 2 tablespoons of glycerin
Apply the mixture to a gauze pad and place it on the painful area
Leave this application on the area for 15-20 minutes
Repeat every four to six hours until the pain eases
Doctor’s advice: Yes, I recommend this treatment.
Remember, to help treat and prevent hemorrhoids it’s important to eat enough fiber (25 grams a day for women, 38 grams a day for men) and to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. These dietary changes can make stool easier to pass and keep the problem from recurring.
Psyllium Husk (ISABGOL Powder)
Tumblr media
Hakim Hasan Image for ISABGOL.
Psyllium husk is a supplement that helps increase your fiber intake and softens stools to make them easier to pass. Be careful not to increase fiber too much, too quickly, as it may also cause gas or stomach cramping.
Doctor’s advice: Use this to soften stool and make bowel movements more regular.  It won’t affect hemorrhoids at a local level, but it does regulate your bowels. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you take this supplement.
Sitz baths
Hakim Hasan Image for Sitz Bath Installation.

(You can use a sitz bath, which is a small plastic tub that fits over a toilet seat, or takes a full-body bath in your tub)
Generally, experts recommend people with painful hemorrhoids sit in warm water for 15 minutes, several times a day — especially after a bowel movement.
Doctor’s advice: Yes, this is one of the best treatments. A sitz bath is generally available at a local pharmacy; this small bowl fits right over your toilet and offers a convenient way to soak and soothe the area.
Dietary changes and self-care
If constipation is thought to be the cause of your hemorrhoids, you need to keep your stools soft and regular so you don’t strain when going to the toilet.
You can do this by increasing the amount of fiber in your diet. Good sources of fiber include wholegrain bread, cereal, fruit, and vegetables.
You should also drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine.
When going to the toilet, you should:
avoid straining to pass stools, as it may make your hemorrhoids worse
use baby wipes or moist toilet paper, rather than dry toilet paper, to clean your bottom after passing a stool
pat the area around your bottom rather than rubbing it
Read more about preventing constipation.
Eat more fiber.
Tumblr media
Preventing difficult or straining bowel movements by softening the stool is a major method of both preventing and getting rid of piles. Fiber is very important in this regard. It helps keep water in the stool and bulks it up so that the stool passes through the rectum and anus more easily and, in the case of hemorrhoids, with less pain. (Note: determine ingredient sensitivity and allergy prior to following any consumption advice.) Good sources of fiber include:[16][17]
Whole grains, including brown rice, barley, corn, rye, bulgur wheat, kasha (buckwheat) and oatmeal. (Note: consuming grain while having auto-immune disorders or sensitivity to gluten or starches can cause bloating, cramping, diarrhea, intestinal damage and other ailments.)
Fruits, especially cherries, blueberries, plums, prunes, apricots, raspberries and strawberries.
Vegetables, such as leafy vegetables like Swiss chard, collard greens, spinach, lettuce, beet greens.
Beans and legumes. (Note: eating beans and legumes can increase intestinal gas.)
  Use essential oils.
Tumblr media
Hakim Hasan Agha.Essential oil.
Essential oil must be diluted in carrier oil before applying to skin. To create a dilution, add 2 to 4 drops of a chosen essential oil to 2 fluid ounces (59.1 ml) of a base, such as jojoba oil, castor oil, almond oil or avocado oil. Mix well and apply directly to external piles. Use 1 essential oil or up to 2 to 3 in a mixture.[15]
Lavender oil can help relieve pain and itching.
Cypress oil is used to soothe and help in healing tissue.
Tea tree oil is an antiseptic and is anti-inflammatory.
Avocado oil can be used as a base or added to other oils. It moisturizes, soothes and accelerates healing.
Simple Ways You Can Prevent Hemorrhoids
1. Go when you need to go
This sounds like common-sense advice, but too many people ignore it. If you delay using the bathroom, your stool may become hard and dry in your bowel, which makes it harder to pass. If you strain to pass stool, your risk for developing hemorrhoids increases.
Speaking of straining, don’t force a bowel movement when you don’t need to go, either. Straining increases the pressure on your venous cushions, which leads to hemorrhoids. In particular, straining can turn internal hemorrhoids into external ones.
2. Don’t turn the bathroom into a reading room
Think of your time in the bathroom as a necessity, not an extended escape. If your toilet has stacks of magazines or books on the water tank, consider moving them to another room. Don’t take your phone into the toilet area — no browsing Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter or playing games.
Why? The more time you spend on the toilet, the more likely you will strain for bowel movements. Also, the seated position puts extra stress on your anal blood vessels. Both of these factors boost your risk of hemorrhoids.
3. Reassess your diet
To prevent hemorrhoids, you want a stool that is soft and easy to pass. You can reach the right consistency by making smart diet choices and drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
A lack of fiber is the most common culprit. For example, if you find yourself constipated, try getting more fiber from green vegetables, fruits, and 100 percent whole grains. If need be, ask your doctor about taking fiber supplements, but start by trying to get fiber through your diet. Fiber can help you avoid constipation, and constipation — which leads to straining — is a risk factor for hemorrhoids.
Drink plenty of water with the fiber. Fiber without water makes stools hard.
Fiber comes with a warning, though. Some people have what we call “slow transit constipation.” Their bowels move slower than normal. For these people, excess fiber tends to sit in the gut and make constipation worse.
Also, listen to your body and avoid foods that irritate your bowels. For some people, the lactose in dairy products is an irritant. For others, it’s gluten or too many refined foods.
4. Get moving
Moderate exercise helps improve or prevent many bowels and digestive issues, including hemorrhoids. When you are sedentary, everything slows down, including your bowels.
Exercise helps keep waste moving through your intestinal tract. In turn, this helps you avoid constipation and dry, hard stool. Walking, running short distances, biking, yoga — take your pick, but choose an active lifestyle.
One note of caution, though if you have hemorrhoids: Avoid heavy-duty weight-lifting squats and similar motions that increase abdominal pressure. If you’re trying to prevent hemorrhoids, these exercises can do more harm than good.
5. See your doctor
If your symptoms change or the bleeding increases, see a doctor and get your symptoms evaluated. Not all hemorrhoid treatment options are surgical and you may need as an assessment to rule out other diseases.

Isabgol Benefits For Skin and Hair
New Post has been published on https://skin-care-routine.com/isabgol-benefits-for-skin-and-hair/isabgol-benefits-for-skin-and-hair/
Isabgol Benefits For Skin and Hair
A. What Are Skin Benefits Of Isabgol?
Isabgol, or psyllium husk, is the most common home remedy to cure stomach problems, especially constipation, as it makes the stools bulky and allows for smooth bowel movements. But it is just one of the many health benefits of Isabgol.
1. Isabgol benefits for various diseases
a. Cold
The treatment of constipation is easier with isabgol, a fiber. The ability to absorb and retain water makes stools bulky and soft, so they move smoothly.
b. Pile up
Stake management is directly related to constipation. Acute constipation leads to hemorrhoids that are painful. But isabgol can reduce constipation and hemorrhoid-related bleeding.
c. High cholesterol
Isabgol, like hypocholesterolemia, can help control cholesterol levels. It decreases the absorption of bad cholesterol and increases the degradation of the deposited particles.
d. Obesity

e. Diarrhea
Isabgol has antidiarrheal and anti-secretory properties that aid in the effective control of diarrhea. It can block calcium ion channels that cause acute diarrhea.
2. Irritable bowel syndrome
A smooth bowel movement quickly relieves painful irritable bowel syndrome. In addition, Isabgol forms a protective layer in the stomach and this protective layer reduces acidity, which further relieves stomach problems.
3. Ulcerative colitis
Isabgol has the treatment for this inflammatory bowel syndrome. Increases the volume of waste by absorbing extra water, which softens waste and allows easy passage as waste. And inflammation subsides when waste is released from the body.
4. Diabetes mellitus (type 1 and 2)
Isabgol helps to control diabetes in several ways. First, it prevents the sudden rise in sugar levels after a meal. Second, it improves the absorption of antidiabetic drugs like metformin, so that these drugs can work in their dual capacity.
a. Acne
Isabgol applied to the skin with aloe vera gel can help control acne.
b. Precautions with Isabgol
Overdose with Isabgol can cause diarrhea. Patients with throat problems, such as difficulty swallowing, should also avoid taking Isabgol. Another precaution to take with Isabgol is that it can lower blood sugar levels and blood pressure. Diabetics and people with high blood pressure should be careful when taking Isabgol.
5. How do I take isabgol?
Isabgol is available in powder and capsules. If you are taking powder, you need to take a teaspoon or two of powder. Or you can take one or two capsules a day.
  B. Isabgol to feed your skin, hair and nails
When you thought supermodels’ beauty was just genetic, they admit they can get a little help – from their kitchen cabinets. Elle Macpherson, also known as The Body, swears by a super-green powder, Miranda Kerr is obsessed with coconut oil and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley complements her green juices with Japanese whole food chlorella.
“Everything from the food you eat to what you put on your face is important,” says Victoria’s secret model, Candice Swanepoel. “Good skin comes from within and I make sure to eat foods rich in nutrients, like fish, fruits, lots of vegetables, nuts and foods rich in omega and oils.” The mantra “You are what you eat” has never been more popular in the beauty of the planet. Then, attack the refrigerator and include these superfoods in your diet.
1. Luminous skin
“Many people don’t make a connection between the food they eat and their skin,” says Cassandra Barns, nutritionist at NutriCentre.com. “Like any other part of the body, our skin is kept healthy by the food and nutrients we consume. Although a poor diet can quickly cause pale or dry skin, blemishes or acne, a healthy diet based on whole foods that includes a variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, beans, eggs, fish and whole grains is an excellent basis for brightness . ”
a. Beauty shopping list:
Orange vegetables like carrot, pumpkin, pumpkin and sweet potato, which are rich in beta-carotene and other carotenoids. “Beta-carotene converts to vitamin A in our body, one of the most important nutrients for the integrity of the skin,” explains Barns. “It is also an antioxidant and helps prevent free radical damage in our cells that leads to aging.”
2. Nice body
In summer, we tend to exercise more and eat healthier. A change in seasons can be reflected in your body and also in your wardrobe.
Eliminate the toxins that cause cellulite and fiber gases in your diet: “As with all systems in the body, your digestive system may be slow in the fall / winter due to the change in the speed of the biological clock and the opportunities for exercise,” says the nutritionist Dr. Simone Laubscher. “It is important that your body stays on a regular basis to detoxify effectively every day. Getting enough fiber and water is the key.”
a. Beauty shopping list:
Psyllium husks, or ground flax seeds, will help you feel fuller for longer and clean your intestines and colon by removing toxins.
“Brown rice, quinoa, pearl barley and millet are also particularly useful for the fall transition. Eat them daily, but reserve them for lunch instead of dinner. ”
3. Glossy hair
Maintain your supreme glory with a healthy hair plan. Stress, hormonal imbalances and insufficient nutrients are the main causes of health problems and hair loss.
“A good diet, along with an increase in essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and plant extracts, can help you obtain luxurious hair that signals internal well-being,” advises clinical nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston.
a. Beauty shopping list:
Lean proteins that are less saturated with fat, such as lean meat, fish, nuts and seeds. Beans and lentils are also good protein choices because they do not contain harmful fats and iron, zinc and biotin contribute to hair growth.
“Soy may also help to reduce DHT, a hormone that can cause hair loss in women and men,” suggests Bishop-Weston. “Tofu, edamame and miso soup are easy ways to include soy in your diet, preferably with seaweed to replenish iodine levels and support thyroid activity.”
  C. What is Isabgol and why you must start adding it in your food NOW
Isabgol, also called psyllium husk, is obtained from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. It has its roots in the Sanskrit words “asp” and “ghol”, which together mean “horse flower”. The plant has long, narrow leaves and contains about 70% soluble fiber and 30% insoluble fiber. It is a herb native to Asia, the Mediterranean and North Africa. Isabgol is known as a general agent for effective weight loss and elimination of toxins from the digestive tract and offers a wide variety of health benefits.
1. Cure Constipation
Isabgol is a good remedy that has been used as a laxative to relieve constipation for centuries. The insoluble fiber present in Isabgol causes faeces to soften and expand, which improves bowel movement. Add two teaspoons of isabgol to a glass of warm milk and drink it before going to bed every night for a few weeks.
2. Reduces cholesterol level
According to several health experts, the hygroscopic properties of Isabgol help to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood. It forms a thin layer in the intestine that prevents the absorption of cholesterol from food and is an efficient means of lowering cholesterol.
3. Helps you lose weight
Isabgol helps you feel satisfied for a long time, thus alleviating unwanted cravings for food. Consuming Isabgol powder mixed with water and lemon juice will help you lose weight if taken in the morning on an empty stomach.
4. Relieves diarrhea
When isabgol is taken with cottage cheese, it acts as an effective remedy for soft stool symptoms. Isabgol fibers help to harden stools, which works well for diarrhea.
5. Increases digestion
Filled with soluble and insoluble fibers, Isabgol helps to regulate bowel movements, unblocking the passage for food to pass through the intestines in your stomach. You can take 2 teaspoons of Isabgol in a buttermilk cup and consume it before going to bed.
6. Regulates blood sugar
Isabgol is ideal for diabetics because it contains gelatin, which slows down the breakdown and absorption of glucose in the body. Thus, it helps to control the amount of blood sugar in the body.
7. Acid cure
If you suffer from acid, Isabgol comes to the rescue. It protects the stomach lining from acid, creating a layer.
8. How much Isabgol should you consume?
According to several studies, one can consume 10 to 20 grams of Isabgol per day with 8 ounces of water to reduce the level of cholesterol. 20 grams of isabgol a day also help to prevent constipation.
9. Best time to eat Isabgol to lose weight
The best time to consume isabgol for weight loss is in the morning or at night, before bed, on an empty stomach.
10. How do you use Isabgol?
Mix Isabgol with milk, honey, juice or smoothie.
Mix isabgol in your curd.
Can be taken with warm water.

10 ALOE VERA USES YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT
Tumblr media
by Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs
Aloe vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis, has been a staple resource in many cultures around the world for thousands of years. While the plant originated in southern Africa, you can find it growing around the world in places as varied as the Mediterranean and the southern United States. Traditional uses for aloe vera include soothing burns, moisturising skin, and helping small wounds heal.
There are a lot of nutrients and potential health benefits packed into this easy-to-maintain plant—over 200 different biologically active substances. Because of its impressive profile, it’s used in lotions, ointments, creams, sunburn remedies, and many other types of cosmetics. Many people even apply it to acne, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Let’s take a look at some uses you may not know about.
1. Aloe Vera Supports the Immune System
Your immune system requires oxygen-rich blood. Aloe vera supports nutrient absorption from the gut; this includes iron absorption. Iron carries free oxygen molecules from your lungs around the body, and proper iron absorption is a key factor in maintaining blood-oxygen levels. One of the ways aloe helps you absorb nutrients is by keeping the digestive tract clear of debris through bowel regularity. This allows the food you’ve eaten to better come into contact with the intestinal lining, increasing nutrient exposure and absorption.
Aloe also acts as an adaptogen, which helps keep your cells and tissues in balance. It makes the immune system’s job easier by protecting cells from oxidative stress and other factors that disrupt their function.
Aloe vera is a rich source of polysaccharides. Research shows these complex sugars improve the efficiency of the immune system. Aloe is also rich in the antioxidants that protect cells from free radical damage.
2. Aloe Vera Supports Normal Digestion
Aloe vera contains two enzymes—amylase and lipase—that help encourages normal digestion. The plant also helps keep your stomach acid levels balanced to support a normal gut environment.
Aloe contains acemannan. Acemannan and other polysaccharides are prebiotics that supports probiotics in the gut. When you have these ‘good guys’ in your gut, you’re apt to digest your food better, get more nutritional value from it, and enjoy better overall health. A University of California, Davis study found that people who consumed aloe vera were able to more efficiently absorb vitamins C and B-12.
3. Eases Digestive Discomfort
Common digestive concerns like gas, diarrhoea, constipation, and abdominal pain affect a lot of people. If you’re looking for a natural solution to ease your digestive discomfort, then aloe vera may be able to help. Studies show decreased gas, bloating, and discomfort in those who take regular aloe supplements.
Some preliminary research suggests aloe may also help with certain types of intestinal ulcer. In a clinical trial, 30 patients suffering from the condition were given aloe vera by mouth. Fourteen of the thirty patients reported some form of improvement; only four patients in the placebo group reported improvement.
Aloe is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including:
Vitamin A (beta-carotene): Important for healthy skin, teeth, bones, and eyes.
Vitamin C: Vital for metabolism, skin health, and immune function.
Vitamin E: Protects the skin from UV damage.
Vitamin B12: Keeps nerve and brain cells healthy. Necessary for DNA replication.
Folic acid: Essential for brain function, liver health, and metabolism.
Choline: Supports metabolism and the production of neurotransmitters responsible for memory, focus, and a positive mood.
Calcium
Chromium
Copper
Selenium
Magnesium
Manganese
Potassium
Sodium
Zinc
5. Aloe Vera Is a Great Source of Nutrients and Enzymes
Aloe vera is often called a superfood because, in addition to vitamins and minerals, it offers more than 200 other bioavailable nutrients. It’s especially rich in the following enzymes, which support metabolism, hormone function, digestion, and detoxification:
Alliinase
Alkaline phosphatase
Amylase
Bradykinase
Carboxypeptidase
Catalase
Cellulase
Lipase
Peroxidase
There is a group of nutrients known as secondary metabolites which are found in aloe and other plants. Some of these include aloe emodin, chrysophanol, aloesin, and aloin. Research shows these nutrients can offer a number of other significant health benefits which include antioxidant support.
6. Aloe Supports Cardiovascular Health
Aloe vera is a rich source of beneficial plant compounds called phytosterols. Phytosterols promote normal lipid levels and support cardiovascular health. In a five-year study of 5,000 heart disease patients, researchers found those who consumed aloe vera and another plant called Husk of Isabgol had better lipid and blood sugar levels.
7. Aloe Vera Boosts Dental Health
A recent study involving 345 participants suggests aloe makes an effective mouthwash that supports healthy teeth and gums. Other research indicates that aloe vera gel can help resist Candida albicans, a common oral yeast.
8. Aloe Resists Harmful Organisms
Some plants contain a variety of chemicals and compounds that help suppress harmful organisms. Aloe vera itself contains six separate antiseptic agents: lupeol, salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, cinnamic acid, phenols, and sulphur.
9. Aloe Vera Is Ultra Soothing
Aloe vera is ultra-soothing for cuts, sunburns, and scrapes. Whether it is a topical gel, lotion, or just breaking open a fresh leaf and rubbing it onto a problem area, aloe helps calm red, swollen, and irritated skin. One reason for its soothing properties is an enzyme called bradykinase that helps soothe agitated tissue.
10. Aloe Vera May Have Anti-Ageing Properties
Aloe vera does more than soothing and moisturise. It also offers anti-ageing benefits that smooth the appearance of wrinkles from the inside out. In one study, 30 women over the age of 45 took an aloe vera gel supplement for 90 days. By the end of the study, the appearance of facial wrinkles softened, and their skin looked healthier.
History of Aloe Vera
While the benefits of aloe are impressive, they’re not entirely new to us. We are only rediscovering what our ancestors already knew. Egyptians prized the plant over 6,000 years ago. One of the first mentions of aloe vera appears in the Papyrus Ebers around B.C. 1550, which shows 12 formulas for using aloe vera therapeutically. It proved so useful that it was known as the “Plant of Immortality.” People would even present aloe vera as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs. It is widely believed that Egyptian queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra used aloe vera cosmetically.
Egypt was not the only part of the world that found value in the aloe vera plant. As early as 600 BC, there’s record of Arab traders bringing aloe vera to India—which they called “desert lily.” Arabs were already separating the inner gel and sap from the outer rind, even grinding the leaves into powder. This aloe powder was highly valued. In fact, records from as early as the 17th century show the East India Trading Company relied heavily on aloe for its commercial value.
With such amazing historical uses, aloe vera has earned nicknames from all around the globe–names like the “silent healer”, “sabila” “burn plant”, “ghai kunwar”, “elephant’s gall”, “isha irazu”, “cape aloe”, the “medicine plant”, and the “first aid plant”. And, while there are many other aloe species, none are so heavily utilized as aloe vera.
Today, aloe vera gel is a common additive in beauty products and used for a wide arrange burns, cuts, and other skin concerns. Many people drink aloe vera juice for its nutritional value. You can even find edible gels from the inner leaf of the plant in many grocery stores, and it has gained popularity as a smoothie ingredient.
Choosing the Right Aloe Vera
As more and more aloe products arrive on the market—gels, lotions, creams, juices, and capsules—it’s easier than ever to access the benefits of the plant. When choosing a supplement, always check the ingredients. Some products include fillers and may not contain the nutrients, ingredients, or concentrations you expect.
For a supplement with the full nutritional force of aloe, I recommend Aloe Fuzion™. It’s a highly bioavailable aloe vera supplement made from organic inner leaf aloe vera gel. It contains the most acemannan content of any aloe product available and the feedback has been outstanding.
