#Invasion of the Dinosaurs

One trait that I think Doctor Who has maintained throughout its long run is that it is truly a family show. Every serial has something for everyone. For example, in "Invasion of the Dinosaurs," children are exposed to such educational topics as fascism, eugenics, and eco-terrorism, while their parents are kept amused by the silly animated dinosaurs.

"Invasion of the Dinosaurs" is one of my favorite classic Who stories for many reasons: the follow-through on several themes and character points from "The Green Death," Sarah's skills as a journalist being put to excellent use to where she all but singlehandedly uncovers the conspiracy and convinces others it's a sham too, (mostly) misguided humans being the bad guys (rather than it turning out to be aliens - it's a refreshing change of pace), the Brigadier being the Brigadier, and much more.

And then there's this scene, which not only is my favorite scene of the story but also solidified Sergeant Benton as one of my top 10 classic Who characters:

Benton: "Right then, Doctor, you better get busy."

Doctor: "What?"

Benton: "You better start overpowering me, hadn't you? You know, a bit of your Venusian oojah?"

Doctor: "Thank you, Sergeant Benton."

Benton, you're a real one! I love you! 😄

Yet another reason why I love "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" is because it has this gem of a quote:

[Context: the Doctor is talking to Captain Yates, who, in his disgust for how the Earth has been corrupted and polluted, has joined a conspiracy to send a few people back to a "golden age" of Earth, wiping generations of people out of existence in the process.]

Doctor: "Look, I understand your ideals. In many ways I sympathize with them. But this is not the way to go about it, you know. You've got no right to take away the existence of generations of people."

Yates: "There's no alternative!"

Doctor: "Yes, there is. Take the world that you've got and try to make something of it. It's not too late."
