International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (informally and simply called Ozone Day) is celebrated on September 16 designed by the United Nations General Assembly. This designation had been made on December 19, 2000, in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 16 September the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The closure of the hole in the ozone layer was observed 30 years after the protocol was signed. Due to the nature of the gases responsible for ozone depletion their chemical effects are expected to continue for between 50 and 100 years.

CALAMBA CITY, September 23 (PIA) – To encourage local government units and provincial offices to go green in the construction, maintenance and operation of their buildings, DENR 4A hosted a Green Buildings Orientation in their Regional Office at Brgy. Mayapa, Calamba City last September 16.   In partnership with the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation Office and the Philippine Green Buildings Council, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 4A (DENR 4A) organized the activity also in celebration of the International Day of Preservation of the Ozone Layer.   “This activity is very important to us especially that we have just transferred in this building. It would also be good to share how we strive to be green in our activities and with our structures,” DENR 4A Regional Public Affairs Office Chief Ann Hazel Javier.   In general, the activity aims to orient the participants on the impacts of infrastructures and buildings to climate change and otherwise the impacts of climate change to buildings and infrastructures and especially the people who use these infrastructures.   Dr. Dolores Borja of DENR 4A said Green Buildings means we should make sure that the construction of buildings are done in accordance to sustainable development and ensure that resources are sustainably managed.   “Green Buildings consider four components including materials, energy, water and health to make it more sustainable,” she pointed out.   Buildings should have low maintenance and operation cost; must be energy, water and material efficient; have better and quality environment; and should reduce impact to local resources, she further explained.   “A Green Building is designed in such a way to reduce overall impact on environment and human health,” she added.   Quoting DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, she said there is a need for all the local government units to work together with DENR in addressing all the environmental challenges that confronts our society.    “Pagdating naman po sa environmental protection, environmental vigilance, malawak po ang networks rito, kasi sino pa ba naman ang mangangalaga sa ating kapaligiran sa ating mundo kundi tayo pong lahat!” she rallied.   (When it comes to environmental protection, environmental vigilance, we have a wide network because no one else should take care of our environment in this world but us.)   Caring for the environment must start in our homes and our second home which is our offices, she added.   Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines Chair, Architect Miguel C. Guerrero talked about Climate Change and the Infrastructure and Buildings Industry’s roles and impacts.   Philippine Green Building Council Technical Coordinator Mario Lawrence C. Suelto tackled the Transitioning to Green Buildings – Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies in the Infrastructure and Buildings Sectorand shared some Green Buildings success stories and case studies.   CENRO Sta. Cruz OIC For. Victor H. Mercado shared about the ways their office applied the concept of Green Buildings through the establishment of a Rooftop Eco-Center in their office building.   The rooftop contains rain catching system used to water its plants, material recovery facility, hydroponics and vermicompost, among others. 1. Ayurveda Students Set Guinness Record

Ayurveda Students Set Guinness Record In Jaipur. Ayurveda sytudents from across the country have set a new Guinness World Record for maximum number of people receiving ‘nasya panchakarma’ treatment at 1st Rashtriya Ayurved Yuva Mahotsav, the national event for students of ayurveda., organised by the National Ayurveda Student Youth Association (NASYA) in association with the Department of AYUSH.

The event was hosted by the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) in Jaipur. The record was set in eight minutes. ‘Nasya karm’ refers to the ayurvedic therapy that includes instillation of herbal oils, juices or powders through the nasal route. It works specifically on disorders of ear, nose and throat.

2. Assam government passes PRANAM Bill

Employees who dump parents will lose part salary. The Assam state Assembly passed PRANAM(Parental Responsibility And Norms for Accountability and Monitoring ) bill that makes it mandatory for state government employees to take care of their parents and needy siblings or face a cut in their income.

Assam is the first state to approve such a legislation.

Highlights :-

The Bill will ensure that all government employees look after their dependents including parents and divyangs(Persons with disability).

The parents or needy siblings who feel neglected can lodge complaints with the head of the department of the person who, after hearing both sides, may deduct 10-15 percent of the salary of the employee and give it to the parents for their survival.

Vice President of India lays foundation stone for the first Regional Vocational Training Institute (RVTI) in Hyderabad.Vice President Mr.M.Venkaiah Naidu laid foundation stone for Regional Vocational Training Institute, in Hyderabad.

Regional Vocational Training Institute (RVTI):

This Regional Vocational Training Institute for women is the first of its kind in Telangana.

This would increase skill development opportunities for women and provide them with job opportunities.It was said that one RVTI would be set up in every state. 

Budget of Rs.19.95 crore has been allotted for construction of building for RVTI-Hyderabad. The RVTI campus would be set up on 4 acres of land. One thousand trainees would be trained every year.RVTI would provide vocational training to 480 women every year in regular courses under Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) and Craft Instructor’s Training Scheme (CITS).

Courses such as Fashion Design & Technology, Architectural Assistantship, Cosmetology, Front Office Assistant, Secretarial Practice (English), Food and Beverages Service Assistant would be taught.

The International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer (World Ozone Day) is observed every year on September 16 for the preservation of the Ozone Layer.

The theme of the year 2017 is ‘Caring for all life under the sun’.

Oxone Layer;-

The ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Ozone Secretariat will launch a communication campaign ahead of World Ozone Day to be marked on 16 September 2017

5. President of India launched ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ campaig

To take the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at a higher level, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, The President of India, launched a nationwide sanitation campaign, ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service), at Ishwariganj village in Kanpur. 

This ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ campaign aimed to strengthen the flagship program ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.

The President also launched the Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities in the village which is the next major step in Swachhta after getting the villages Open Defecation Free.

6. Maximum NPS age to be increased at 65 years

In an official statement, the PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority) proposed to increase the National Pension Scheme (NPS) age for entry into this system to 65 years from the present 60 years.

Later, there would be an option to continue this up to 70 years of age.
