Score Extra Points by Showing Your Team Spirit at Home
Your favorite team has a place in your heart – and can also have a place in your home. You shed sweat and tears (but hopefully not blood) screaming, shouting, rejoicing, biting your nails, crying and using words we can’t print here. Team spirit is important to you, and your design and decorating choices are fun ways to demonstrate your allegiance. Whether you just want to include one or two well-placed items or pay homage to your favorite player or team throughout your house, below are some ideas to inspire you.
Hockey Headboard
A hockey lover’s bedroom in New Brunswick, Canada: Image: Decorating Den Interiors
You’ll have sweet dreams (assuming your team is winning this year) when your headboard is a hockey goal. Those curtains are sheets (with the team’s logo) that have been custom-sewn to fit the window.  To recreate the Toronto Maple Leaf’s logo over the headboard, the logo was projected on the wall, and then traced out and painted. The scoreboard light fixture completes the look.
Wall Murals
The perfect moment is frozen in time in this New York bedroom. Image: Garrison Hullinger
After the rights to the above photo were purchased from the artist, the photo was turned into a custom wall mural. The raised panels (made of plywood) were attached to the wall, and then the wallpaper mural was cut into strips and applied in between the panels. The effect is stunning, but would probably need to be removed before placing your home on the market.

Everything But the Kitchen Sink
A peek behind the Steel Curtain. Image: The Design Firm
Every item in this bedroom reflects the Pittsburgh Steelers, from the bedding to the chair to the wall mural to the rug. The team’s colors are also represented in the window valance, black accent walls with gold stripes, the ceiling and even the lamps.
The Ultimate Room for Young Fans
Are you ready for some football? The answer is always “yes” in this Richmond bedroom. Image: Poshtots
Whether you’re a Giants fan or not, you have to appreciate the creativity that went into designing this bedroom. From the giant footballs to the hand-painted murals, this room is spectacular.  Also, the entrance to the slide is off the loft bed. This look could be recreated for basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis and other sports, as well.
Stadium Seats
A piece of history in West Chester, PA. Image: Spring Creek Design
These are stadium seats from Veteran’s Stadium in Philadelphia. The stadium was demolished in 2004, but this fan will always have a commemorative piece of the place where the Eagles and the Phillies used to play.
Game Day Garage
There are no cars leaking oil in this Miami garage. Image: Premium Garage
This ultra sleek garage has a custom built pool table and matching card tables. An added bonus is that all of the Dolphins paraphernalia can be easily removed for the next homeowners (if they’re not fans).
A Place to Watch the Game
A stunning sports room in Phoenix, AZ. Image: Ownby Design
We wanted to find out how former athletes show their team spirit, so we reached out to a former football player and a former basketball player. Byron Franklin played college football at Auburn University, and then played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills (1981-1984) and the Seattle Seahawks (1985-1987). Needless to say, Franklin has an impressive collection of memorabilia. However, he has another way to display his team spirit. “During Auburn’s games, I show my team spirit through buffalo wings and spirit shakers,” Franklin says jokingly. “The TV is put on surround sound and turned way up, then I serve as the play-by-play announcer to my family.”
Before you turn up the sound, think about your walls. “Tactile wall treatments like flannel, fabrics, wood paneling and heavy rugs are ideal for a home sports environment,” explains Allison Chiaramonte, an agent at New York-based Warburg Realty. “On a more practical note, they provide noise insulation – and that’s important when blasting the game.”
Sports Memorabilia Collections
The display cases in this Suwanee, GA home provide visibility and protection. Image: Schilling & Company
Micah Blunt was the 8th round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1982 draft. He also won 5 championship rings with the Kingston Kings of London, England, in addition to an MVP ring for his efforts.  “My sports room chronicles my athletic career, which includes paraphernalia from my time playing college basketball at Tulane,” Blunt says.  When he was drafted by the Lakers, Blunt had basketballs autographed by the team members. These are also a part of his collection. “All of my jerseys are framed, and my rings are in cases – and the room also includes the various trophies and awards I’ve received.” However, he says the most prized possession in his sports room is the sports memorabilia painted by pro athlete-turned-artist Ernie Barnes.
A room with a view in Greenwich, CT. Image: Saniee Architects, LLC
This spectacular view makes it hard to focus on a single area. The sports memorabilia on the lower and upper levels are connected by a spiral staircase. The beams, columns and other architectural details make this a sports fan’s paradise.
Welcome Mat
A house divided – at least until the off-season. Image: Fanmats
If you don’t have the time, energy or money to create a sports memorabilia room, and you don’t really like your favorite players enough to plaster their faces on your walls, there are other ways to show your team spirit. For example, a welcome mat is an inexpensive option. Other items with your team’s logo, such as a helmet, a set of TV trays, wall clocks, bar stools and even inflatable snowmen can also provide opportunities to display your team spirit without spending a bundle.

This ultra sleek garage has a custom built pool table and matching card tables. An added bonus is that all of the Dolphins paraphernalia can be easily removed for the next homeowners (if they’re not fans).
A Place to Watch the Game

This spectacular view makes it hard to focus on a single area. The sports memorabilia on the lower and upper levels are connected by a spiral staircase. The beams, columns and other architectural details make this a sports fan’s paradise.
Welcome Mat

If you don’t have the time, energy or money to create a sports memorabilia room, and you don’t really like your favorite players enough to plaster their faces on your walls, there are other ways to show your team spirit. For example, a welcome mat is an inexpensive option. Other items with your team’s logo, such as a helmet, a set of TV trays, wall clocks, bar stools and even inflatable snowmen can also provide opportunities to display your team spirit without spending a bundle.
