Give Your Home A Classy Look With Granite Slabs
Tumblr media
Granite is a rock that is more suitable than others for outdoor decoration, especially for paving. Most varieties of granite are resistant to high loads (high passenger traffic), chemical contaminants (salt and street chemistry) and temperature changes. The use of granite slabs in the home is quite essential as it will make your home stunning.
Granite slabs floor cladding
The floor is an excellent place to use granite slabs in Sydney since it is on the floor that all the distinctive properties of this stonework ultimately. Granite is extremely durable and resistant to abrasion; this is perhaps the strongest natural building material.
Lay the granite slabs in the passage areas: hallways, halls, and terraces. A lot of sand and dirt particles get into the house on the feet from the street, which can damage many types of coatings, but not granite!
Natural stone is often chosen due to the variety of colours and patterns. Granite in this regard is rich in various colour combinations and patterns. It is possible to recreate both classical, and hi-tech motives in interior design with granite.
Square tiles will give classics in the interior, and modern trends can be emphasized by a combination of different shapes and colours, as well as the use of rectangular tiles.
Do not forget that any stone is a cool material, and because of this, in many rooms, the aesthetic pleasure will be smeared with discomfort. Do not put granite in the bedrooms and nurseries.
Think about the feasibility of installing a “warm floor” system where granite slabs will be laid. It can be a kitchen area, a bathroom, a relaxation room, a billiard room.
Granite in the bathroom
The stone-lined bathroom looks excellent. However, a competent designer knows that you should not overdo it with this material since full cladding of the floor and walls in the bathroom is permissible only for large rooms equipped to the highest standards. If the bathroom is not comparable in size, then the use of stone should be limited.
Tip: To get rid of excessive monumentality, use small granite slabs and combinations of different grades and types of stone processing. Like any other room, the bathroom also has its functional areas, which can be visually highlighted with various finishing materials.
In addition to wall and floor cladding, granite is used in the form of countertops and washbasins. In specialized publications, you can find examples of bathtubs made of a solid granite block, but this is a rare exotic for our latitudes.
Granite Fireplaces
Fire and stone - this is the “perfect couple” that will make the living room in the house incredibly cosy and will become a centre of attraction for all households and guests. Granite slabs will perfectly decorate the fireplace area while ensuring the necessary fire safety. Depending on the chosen style, a granite fireplace can be decorated with pilasters, a metal grate, tempered glass. An interesting solution would be the layout of granite slabs near the hearth.
If you need granite slabs, find the perfect ones in Sydney

Barn House in Australia: A Stunning Contemporary Barn Inspired Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This home in Sydney, Australia, has been designed for a young family that wanted a home that would be robust and persevere the wear of everyday life.
Tumblr media
The design of the home, which is located on a triangular shaped lot, was a collaboration between the home owner, the design team from Clayton Orszaczky, and the builder, Robert Plumb Project.
Tumblr media
From the street, the house may appear dark because of its color but it is surprisingly bright and open on the inside. The interior is like the exact contrast of the exterior. What you can see here is a comfy looking chair with an ottoman. On the wall is a wooden shelf that has blue colors in it.
Tumblr media
Using a palette of recycled brick, brass, internal timber lining boards, solid timber, and rough sawn tactile cladding reminiscent of shou sugi ban, the home has a contemporary and warm feeling to it.
Tumblr media
The clients ideas originated from photos of the simple timber hipped roof structures seen in the landscape of Greenland and evolved to absorb influences from traditional Japanese timber architecture and the iconic forms of barn architecture. Read Also: Hupomone Ranch: A Beautiful Contemporary Barn House in California
Tumblr media
Inside the home, the interiors have been designed by Romaine Alwill of Alwill Interiors. The living area, dining and kitchen all share the same space that’s open to the backyard. A built in fireplace and television make for a cozy living room, and when it gets too sunny, curtains can be drawn to provide shade.
Tumblr media
As with many Australian homes, indoor/outdoor living is often included in the design, and in this home they have achieved this by having a sliding doors next to the dining table that open directly to the landscaped backyard, designed by William Dangar and Associates. There’s also a BBQ area for cooking outside.
Tumblr media
There’s also an area for working, that’s large enough for two people to work side by side.
Tumblr media
In the kitchen, the island has exposed storage and an overhang makes it possible for people to sit at while helping with food prep.
Tumblr media
Upstairs, there’s a lounge area where you can see the barn influence, with exposed beams, a pitched roof and skylights.
Tumblr media
The home owner also wanted barn doors on exposed tracks, brass fixtures, and textured surfaces, which you can see have been included in these next photos.
Tumblr media
In the bathroom, white walls and ceilings make the brass accents and black cabinetry stand out. A skylight provides plenty of natural light to the space.
Tumblr media
In the second bathroom the color palette is the same as the first bathroom, and a bath has been added to the space.
Tumblr media
Custom built-in cabinetry makes the most of the space, and a small desk is perfect for homework.
Tumblr media
Back outside, here’s a view of the side of the home where you can see that the windows are surrounded by timber shadow rails and screens, and the fence is a combination of wood and bricks to match the home.
Tumblr media
On the other side of the home is the garage, surrounded by recycled brick. Who would think that a contemporary barn can actually look this beautiful? This is indeed an amazing project by Clayton Orszaczky who managed to come up with a gorgeous home with a contemporary barn style. You can see that everything in the house is well arranged and it used furniture and decors that fit to the desires of the client. You can also see that it has a nice outdoor surrounding and it would really be good to look at it while inside the house through glass windows. Aside from that, it also used various materials from wood, glass, to bricks. Such a nice home, right? Read the full article

How to Purchase A Quality Vinyl Siding
'Siding' actually refers to the outermost covering (or cladding) of a house. The primary function of installing sidings in a building is to shed water and thus protect from the adverse weather effects. Besides rendering protection, sidings are also good in enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the architectural structures - this may also optimistically affect its property value!
While discussing about different types of sidings available in the market, we realize that the most popular one is 'vinyl siding'. Blacktown City, Blue Mountains City, Camden Council are some cities in Sydney (Australia) where residents are literally obsessed about installing these claddings in their apartments or houses. As there is a wide variety of sidings in Australia furniture markets, sometimes it becomes a little challenge to find a suitable cladding that matches personal taste and preferences.
* Firstly, you have to decide whether you would be installing the Vinyl Cladding Sydney on your own, or calling professional help. If you intend to hire a professional to assist you in the installation process, you can use the Internet and access all details of vendors in your area.
* Now, you can estimate how much cladding would be required for the remodeling project. The estimation has to be done after careful measurements of exterior parts of the building to figure out the square footage of wall-space that would be covered by these structures.
* To have a good knowledge about different types of sidings available in your area, meet with a few local cladding suppliers or distributors. You can check their latest offerings to establish clear ideas about what would actually look good for your house. Information on quality and durability of different types of sidings helps in purchasing the right vinyl cladding.
* Try to obtain proposals from at least 3-4 separate vinyl siding contractors in your region. Referrals from pals and relatives sometimes help you find a good service vendor.
* Finally, ensure that you have all essential details to make an informed decision on purchasing vinyl sidings for your house.

Methods to Install Stone Cladding
Most homeowners are looking to enhance their living space by adding stone cladding, and another reason is that it protects both the interior and exterior walls with decorative stones. Stone cladding is durable and helps safeguard your wall against extreme weather and temperature fluctuations. It comes in various colours, textures, shapes, and sizes. The cost to upkeep stone cladding is less, and it is easy to clean.
Direct-Adhered:
In this process, the stone will be cladded on top of your wall by using cement or glue. The direct-adhered technique is less expensive, easy to install and doesn’t require on-site drilling. A cement mortar is formed by combining cement filler powder with a liquid-based additive which is then applied to the back of the stone and the substrate. This method works well in light or thin stone cladding. Since the exterior elements can influence the functioning of the adhesive, this method is mostly used indoors.
Spot Bonding:
In spot bonding, epoxy adhesives are used to clad stones on top of the wall. The epoxy adhesive uses only 10% of the area during installation, which creates a gap between your wall and the stone. This bonding protects your wall from efflorescence and staining because of the minerals present in the water. Sometimes, this spot bonding is used with mechanical anchors to give belts and braces approach to stone cladding for certain applications.
Mechanical Bonding:
Since mechanical bonding uses steel brackets, heavy-duty anchors and bolts to support the cladding which is embedded in walls, this will be a better choice for exterior stone cladding. The stones used for cladding should be thick and strong since this fixation involves drilling to attach the stones to the anchors. The mechanical bonding fixation method is one of the safest methods for installing stones which provides a high-level accuracy to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your house. Stainless steel combats corrosion and all weather conditions.
Aluminium Backing:
In aluminium backing, the stone to be cladded is mounted on an aluminium panel which is attached to the wall using rubber clips. For an impeccable stone cladding appearance, these panels are interlocked. It is cheaper and supports only lightweight or thin stone cladding.
The stone cladding prevents heat loss from inside to outdoors which acts as insulation to your wall. These stones can be used in kitchen backsplash, accent walls, bathroom, exterior walls and even an entire room. If you are looking to upgrade your wall with stone cladding, contact Marble Plus. Looking for Stone cladding in Sydney or Stone cladding in Brisbane Marble Plus helps decorate your wall with a durable and inexpensive stone that stands the test of time. Our immense experience in this industry has helped many clients achieve their desired look within a short time.

Double Bay is a project designed by SAOTA. Set in a north-facing cove in Sydney’s vast natural harbour, the site borders a recreational park and a public pier which juts out into the bay. This element forms one axis for the site whilst a pristine beach, directly in front of the site, forms another.
From the principle park elevation that the new building appears as a collection of planes; a play on space, privacy and threshold. Graphite grey sail screens (made from “Kaynemaile,” a polycarbonate chainmail developed in New Zealand for the Lord of the Rings movies) are rigged just off the house providing privacy from the road. Timber cladding, plastered mass walls, a wood-clad soffit and the exaggerated cill of a bay window punched through the sail screens, are layered into further planes. This game creates depth in an otherwise linear façade and provides privacy whilst maximising light and views to the park. Set into this façade the stairwell is fully glazed; but wrapped protectively in a cloak of timber louvres. This gently curved outline contrasts with the surrounding crystalline box and mediates between the formal entrance and bedrooms above. Entry is at 90 degrees to the Bay, off the park. A ramp, edged by water, slopes gently up to the front door; the little rise adding to the sense of arrival. Here the “U” shaped plan of the house becomes clear; the entrance is a link between two wings, separated by an internal garden which, like an internal harbour, allows views through the spaces to the bay beyond. Seen from the courtyard a massive blank wall of the upper storey seems to weigh on the glazed levity of the ground floor, amplifying the bay view beneath it. The bayside wing of the house is one open plan space. Stairs, rather than walls, delineate the raised kitchen and family dining from more formal areas. These stairs extend seawards into the garden forming a line of axis drawing the eye out to the view and providing privacy from the public road alongside. The garden is raised above the towpath to provide additional privacy from the beach and to dissolve the distinction between the garden and bay from within. This is emphasised in the pool whose orientation and extension towards the water makes a clear connection between the two. An oversailing timber roof canopy connects the street side to the garden and the beach. It permeates the interior, presenting itself at odd moments, it protects and defines the collection of internal and external spaces composed beneath. From the water it is a defining motif; expressive of lightness, reflective of the sea and the canopies of the trees. From the street and bay view, the other predominant elevation of the house, the largely glazed lower story is lost below crisp white walls, black framed window boxes and sail screens. A large Lilly-Pilly tree was preserved and frames the street side of the elevation. Materials were carefully chosen to site the house; the use of wood, white walls and travertine floors reflect the seaside setting. Off-shutter concrete is used as a playful accent which, like the rendered walls, appears almost soft and textured in contrast to crisp folds of screen and aluminium. Architects, SAOTA, displayed their South African signature in this design with its sharp lines, light forms and the lush integration of nature which all combine to make the design feel at home in this special site. A playful character, the calculated blurring of boundaries and the fresh, layered composition bring into balance the domestic needs of a young family and the wow factor that this phenomenal site deserves. SAOTA’s sister company, the interior studio ARRCC, developed a refined décor palette to suit the home and complement the client’s artworks. As architects in association, TKD worked closely with the client, ensuring that SAOTA’s detailed design was delivered and a dream home realized. Their creativity, perseverance and commitment to design excellence was a key success factor. Lighting design by Point Of View and landscaping by Wyer & Co. combined with the dedication of main contractor, Horizon, to deliver a quality home with an exceptionally high level of finish.

Getting Timber Cladding In Central Coast – What To Look For?
First of all,
What is timber cladding?
Timber cladding is an excellent natural material not only for the interiors but also for the exteriors of homes and businesses. It is both aesthetic and useful, providing insulation and a natural appearance to structures. From an accent wall to throughout the exterior of a structure, timber cladding fits everywhere.
Tumblr media
Here’s a checklist curated for everyone who wants to get timber cladding done in their homes or offices:
Timber should be of high quality.
The material should be highly durable.
If one wants to get timber cladding for exteriors, the material should be     weather resistant and long-lasting .– which means it should be able to     withstand harsh weather conditions, like there are in the Central Coast     region, for a long period of time.
The surface finish should be of good quality and durable, cladding material should be impermeable.
The cladding process should be cost-effective
Why should someone prefer timber cladding over paint or tiles?
Tumblr media
Timer cladding gives out a very modern, classic aesthetic feel.
Cladding systems – of good quality, have good high impact resistance.
The cladding has lower installation costs and also hassle-free installation as compared to painting or tiling.
The cladding systems are designed to endure the extreme conditions, especially found on the Central Coast, whereas, paint or tiles can get easily weathered.
Timber cladding Sydney, whether done in the interiors or the exteriors of homes or offices, will keep the user cool in summers and warm in winters.
Cladding designs can also help in optimising natural daylight and ventilation in residences and commercial spaces.

Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre
Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre In 2017, AMP Capital embarked on an expansion of the existing Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre, on behalf of the centre’s owner UniSuper, enlisting Hames Sharley’s assistance to transform a former factory into a community-focused centre. The result is a high-quality design outcome for the residents and businesses of Marrickville and the Inner West.
The extension lies to the south of the current centre and leverages its north-facing orientation to create a new, vibrant retail and dining destination in Sydney, offering amenity and open-air dining. The extension is bound by Edinburgh Road, Murray and Smidmore Street. Smidmore Street has been transformed into an eat street with greatly improved public domain, traffic management and complementary landscaping. It is a short walk to the nearby Sydnenham Metro Station which will open in 2024, linking the Inner West to Greater Sydney.
Praised for its rich and diverse culture, strong community identity and creative spirit, Marrickville and its surrounding suburbs represent one of Sydney’s most unique and eclectic urban communities. Inner West residents are proud of the area’s industrial character, with buildings often sustainably recycled into new uses to suit the changing needs of the community.
This meant the design of the Smidmore Street extension needed to acknowledge the area’s heritage, celebrating the originality of the local culture, and seamlessly integrates the new, while maintaining a sense of the past. The design draws inspiration from the textured and industrial nature of the built environment of Marrickville and surrounding suburbs, celebrating the robust and the gritty – transforming and bringing it to life through the layering of art and activity.
The site south of Smidmore Street, previously the old Shelley Drinks factory, was transformed to incorporate a Coles supermarket, gourmet grocer, specialty boutiques and 12 restaurants with open air seating. The development is set to become a key destination for cultural, sensory and food experiences in the Inner West.
Because the old Shelley Drinks Factory is such an important and meaningful site to the community, the project team decided to retain the brick walls of the old warehouse to celebrate the site’s raw industrial heritage and reflect the character of Marrickville. New openings into the restaurant colonnade are cut into the old factory brick wall and lined with steel architraves, while canvas canopies shelter north-facing restaurants and cafes to create a new street character. The built form is set back at ground level with permeable frontage and includes curated outdoor dining offers within its covered colonnade overlooking street activity.
The aesthetic motivation was driven by simplicity and authenticity. Surfaces remain unadorned, and building function is unapologetically exposed externally and internally. The brick walls of the existing industrial warehouse are contextually important, meaningful to the community and were deemed significant in preparing Hames Sharley’s design response. Existing openings in the original brick walls that were no longer applicable to the adapted functions of the intervention were bricked closed, and new openings onto the restaurant arcade and terrace were cut into the brick wall and lined with slender steel architraves. Canvas canopies shelter the north-facing restaurants and cafes.
Overhead, the bulk of the new shopping centre is clad with a unifying skin of galvanised steel. The silver-grey material is used with consistency but, to articulate and differentiate functional and ventilation requirements of programme behind the façade, types of cladding vary in opacity and degree of perforation. The use of galvanised steel is a nod to the heritage and manufacturing context of the locale. It is a material that will patina in varying degrees of dark grey according to its orientation and will maintain an authentic presence into the future.
An elegant floating bridge takes patrons through the tree canopies to connect the old shopping centre with the new extension over Smidmore Street. The bridge is designed to be invisible and miraculous – a paper-thin walkway suspended from a concealed, inverted triangular truss that spans the road width. The truss is clad with a mirrored surface that reflects the trees and movement of people below and vanishes the structure while slender posts in tension support a glass skin and the walkway.
Customers can walk between the extension and original centre at street level. The Edinburgh Road corner expands on landscape and public art opportunities and opens pedestrian through-site connections to future residential and transport infrastructure at its eastern and western ends. A discrete laneway adjacent to the dock and to the rear of cafes and restaurants offers a surprise and delight moment for customers. The vehicular entry is off Edinburgh Road with the car-park ramp integrated into the design of the centre, including a spectacular public artwork by local inner west artist, Liz Shreeve installed along the of vertical palisades.
Over 15 bold world-class public artworks feature in the project, developed by AMP Capital in partnership with Inner West Council with support by Art Pharmacy.
The public arts program developed with Inner West Council is a corporate, local government, community and creative partnership, unique in its co-curatorial approach. The model for the program is to partner local artists with their neighbours and community to collaboratively develop original artworks, each individually inspired by shared stories, history and ideas of Marrickville.
Reflecting the creative spirit of Marrickville, artwork enlivens and colours the façade, interior and public realm. Based on Inner West Council’s Perfect Match program model, through a unique site-specific Creative Program from local artists, this encourages ownership and a sense of pride for residents.
The program consolidates Inner West Council and Marrickville Metro’s firm commitment to support talented local artists and the creative sector, expanding local employment opportunities and showcasing the valuable contribution they make to the Inner West.
The extension positions Smidmore Street as a vibrant, bustling centre at the heart of Marrickville; a community village where locals meet and feel at home and a destination so dynamic it attracts visitors from the Inner West and beyond.
