Vinyl
Since I have a Mac displaying my work, I have a space above the Mac that looks a bit bare.
I thought that a nice display of some of the shapes used in the animation could be a good chance to use vinyl because it’s something that I haven't used that much in the past.
So I made a display of all of the shapes using a stroke instead of a fill because even though they would be harder to execute, they would all be consistent as well as the fact that some of them really didn't suit of fill.
I’ll probably just have them in the order that I have here rather than doing them all separately. The lines are all quite thin but they should look good in a black vinyl.

above is the piece that I created. painting this piece was really difficult, because I’m the model in the image I wasn’t comfortable with it. removing my tattoos and hair colour I found that I saw myself less. I felt that I had to paint myself for the show because through this project I’ve been looking at body positivity and accepting how you look and it didn’t make sense that I’m trying to convince people to be happy with themselves if I’m not. I’m still uncomfortable with this piece however I don’t regret painting it.

INTERIM SHOW: STARTING POINT
Yesterday, I met with the peers on my course who will be curating my work for the Interim Show. I have been contemplating how I wanted to present my work, evidence of this can be found in my sketchbook and there are sketches in my studio space. I have been placed in the separate room that comes off of PS1. The curators (Laura, Sam and Kinga) have decided that I, along with 2 other students, would work really well as a bit of a collaborative installation. All of our work is fairly similar in the way that it can be turned into an installation of a living room installation (My photo album, a video piece on a TV monitor and possibly a video piece on a projector).
I am perfectly happy with the idea and it fits in so perfectly well with the presentation ideas I already had. I have been asked to consider subtly allowing Brandon’s work influence mine. Brandon is doing a video piece based around men wearing “women’s” clothes and vice versa. At this point, my photo album is merely exploring the notion of forgotten photographs but I could add a lot more context by subtly including KEY DATES of injustices against the LGBT community that were in the same timeframe as my found photographs (1950s - 1980s) - particularly events involving transgender individuals.
I thought this was a brilliant idea, particularly as I am a queer individual and have often researched around the subject area of gender equality and sexuality! I’m also going to see if I can make any extra pieces to put into the exhibition to tie it all together (i.e. a list of names of LGBT individuals involved in hate crimes) maybe in the form of something that may have been found in a traditional home. A telephone book, maybe? However, I don’t want to get too ambitious!
I am feeling REALLY excited about this and it is brilliant that I’ve received such useful feedback and ideas as a result of this group critique.

For the Interim Show, I will be displaying my work on a Mac.
I want to have more than just a simple video displayed on a Mac so one of the ideas that I thought about was to make a desktop background that will compliment the animation. I thought that it would be interesting to have the video as part of the background and with the theme of my animation being film, I had some ideas about using that as a theme for my background.
Originally, I thought about a cinema screen but with my animation being portrait, that wouldn't have worked. So then I thought about film posters and how they are displayed outside the cinema or around the walls inside the cinema. This suited my video more as its portrait and could easily have my video slot in perfectly.
Even though most cinema ‘now showing’ signs are fairly plain, there were a few examples of the poster being inside a big box with neon lights. I liked this flashy style and decided to base my idea on that.
Going with a neon border as well as the text being in neon too, it really brought attention to the focal point. To make it look more like it was on a cinema wall, it put a poster at each side with the lights slightly dimmed on them so not to bring too much attention to them. (I just used posters that I had previously made to use for these.)
With a red wall added, it hopefully has the look of the inside of a cinema and can bring more life to the video rather than just having the standard desktop background.

Image transfer process for “Figured Fabric” Exhibition
https://www.shutterstock.com/blog/diy-at-home-image-transfers-onto-fabric-and-wood
For the exhibition, I have 3 pieces of fabric that I can use however I wish. I want to create 3 pieces using the image transfer technique of gods/religious idols, using mixed media to work internet meme-related text into them.

Final Animation
So after making all of the separate animations, I then brought them all together to make one full animation to sum up the emotions that we get when watching a film. I had previously made 9 animations but wanted to include ‘Amused’ as I thought that laughter is a really important one to include so it makes an appearance.
I have made unique transitions between each emotion, some that relate to the upcoming animation. Some of them just suited a colour fade out or the background disappearing, but there were some that I felt suited a transition that related to the unique emotion. An example would be for the transition between ‘Angered’ and ‘Thrilled’ because the bars falling through the screen introduced the theme of the emotion well. Another example would be between ‘Saddened’ and ‘Relaxed’ because the teardrop falling into the water was just too good an opportunity to turn down.
As well as the transitions, I thought that it would be important to have an opening and closing statement, just to give the animation some context. Rather than have people guessing or just watching a bunch of random shapes move around.
Anyway, here is the version that will be shown at the Interim Show. I am happy with the way that all of the segments have come together and hopefully others enjoy watching it too.

Amazed
Last but not least is ‘Amazed.’ I always wanted to have amazed as the last part of the animation as it is almost a summary of the emotions from watching a film as well as it being one that ends it on a good note. The way that the triangles move in slow motion also have a good movement to fade out and move into the final statement.
Again, regards changes, it was just a case of making it all a bit slower and having more of a pause in the floating of the triangles before they then all fall back into the hexagon.

Confused
I made quite a few changes to ‘Confused’ as I was never fully satisfied with the final outcome.
I took a similar approach to it that I did with ‘Angered’ and ‘Thrilled’ with a small amount of circles moving around before all of them all appearing in a cluster.
Because the gif version was very short and the pace was very frantic, it meant that when I extended the time of the animation, it made more sense to add more movement to the circles rather than to stretch it out.
I also didn’t like the text and the effect that I had put onto it either so instead, it just made a duplicate of the type and had it more around the original which I think is far more suitable for ‘Confused.’ It just makes your vision slightly more uncomfortable which is the aim for this one.
Even though I am not 100% satisfied with this one, I believe that it is definitely an improvement on the gif version and not doesn't feel as out of place as before.
