BOC 2023 Projects Lineup Thoughts

I'm waiting for more translations to come in post-event, but I think it's starting to show that BOC definitely cannot produce a stream of shows. They can only do 5 major projects with airing dates in Q2/3:

The Hidden Character reality show - would take some planning but minimal production prep, plus a hint on a possible new series being written for the "couple" this show would generate. NGL, it could be a very bomb ass concept OR the worst idea. Depends on how they handle it. Plus I had the impression the other 16 actors on their roster can audition for this new horror/thriller series.

Wuju Bakery (JBC series) - This was the actual surprising reveal of today for me. I thought they might pair Barcode with someone else. But they get some slack production wise on this because it's in collaboration with a Korean production company.

4 Minutes (BBB series) - They were being very vague about the premise, and while Sammon is on it, I get the feeling it isn't quite fleshed out yet beyond a just-about-written script.

Man Suang (Movie) - I wanted an updated teaser at least, but it seems they scrapped the original storyline hence why (I think) they don't have one yet. I understand it likely is the biggest production out of the lineup, but I'm also concerned that they're shooting for the stars so much, they cage themselves into paralysis mode. In any case, I suppose the point was to showcase the tour de force behind the movie production as it seems to be where a number of resources are going.

KP 2023 and KP WTF: From what Pond said, Vietnam is their last stop, the tour isn't profitable (🤣😭) and the cast are doing this because they want to give back to fans. So I'm not going to make any complaints lol but seems the 2023 one will have 60-70% different content, and WTF will have them exchanging roles/performances (?) The exchanging is what I'm interested in tbh

Not a major project but MA will be on Woody FM so looking forward to that!

Other thoughts:

I kinda wasn't super banking on a KPTS S2 because of rights purchases etc and I at least didn't have to be let down by not hearing about it 🤣 it could still happen though

I did want a new MA series but given earlier release of the movie than they originally estimated (now in August 2023) plus the character and production prep they have to do, I'll be grudgingly understanding about them not committing to any other project yet; from what I can tell the movie will get lion's share of resources for 1H 2023

I did not fail to see that most filming work would be done by end Q2 and so I am predicting a 2H 2023 lineup announcement (optimistically) or we get a world tour resumption (hopefully with other stops); I would prefer the former over the latter

Hopefully Pond gets work for the rest of the roster, though, because there are 8 other actors without projects unless they're slotting them into the JBC and BBB shows (but wouldn't they announce that?)

This also partially confirms to me that MA's other projects may be more around brand deals, advertising work, etc.

As an introvert I do want to say this event could have been compressed, less dragging; in fact could have been an EMAIL (slash video teaser) so there is that. I think they met my minimum expectation aka that they wouldn't have enough resources for a whole bunch of shows, but I'm still allowed to feel disappointed that I'm not getting a new MA series.

I'm just going to have to hope they'll produce a great film I can... watch on torrent or smth with fansubs kabdiebxie

ohhh my god don't even get me started on this. i submitted for this role on Actors Access (the big auditions site for US/Canada) as luckily/uniquely it wasn't just exclusive to repped actors. now now now, I KNOW, I and everyone else who took the time to audition/submit stood no chance after seeing who got the part. it makes me so mad, like if they're gonna cast a "name actor" then don't bother posting the audition for actors to get their hopes up. I remember the breakdown being displayed as "big starlet role who interacts with lead in an oscar-winning directors new feature" and got everyone excited. I'm sureee Kaia thinks she was the lucky one who was picked from the draw of course, and nothing to do with her background/leg up. (also I found it interesting how the role was not displayed as 'featured background' aka non-speaking but kaia's role was. i wonder if she didn't do a good delivery lol)

Anyway, I didn't see that movie "Babylon" (so many people said it was trash lol), so I'm not even sure how everything ended up onscreen....But geez.... I'm sorry that your hopes got let down like that Anon. 😔 I know the industry can be TOUGH with hearing "no" all the time.

I think in the past, Kaia has actually sort of acknowledged her privilege to some degree, but some of her responses still sound very naïve to me. I think one interview she stated basically that she knows she's a NepoBaby who has a lot of privilege and connections, but that she wouldn't be getting roles if she weren't talented because directors aren't going to hire a NepoBaby if they aren't talented. LOL I'm like what?? 😅 That happens ALL the time! 😅 In VARIOUS industries!

So yea, I think she's just a little young and kind of unaware/out of touch since she's been in such a bubble all her life. That's just the read I get about her, but I don't know her personally. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I recently did a side by side of Uncharted Tom and TCR Tom, and it’s eye-opening.

Speechless.

What this man does for his art. Mad respect but still... I want to trust that his team is on top of his health.

I guess you mean the fans because the media won't have had an opinion on Tomdaya 2.0 since they didn't know Tomdaya 1.0 existed. (Well, they knew but T & Z denied it and it was dropped).

First, let's establish that Z didn't make T do anything. He had other options and he rekindled his relationship with Z because he wanted to.

That said, it's still interesting to think about who did took the most initiative, and did most of the heavy-lifting.

From what we know (or assume), their reconciliation started with Tom reaching out to congratulate her on her Emmy win. Shortly after, Tom ended his relationship with Nadia.

Tomdaya 1.0 ended because (chiefly) they fought over secrecy: with Tom wanting to go public and Zendaya not being ready to. From his Cherry interview, it sounds like something Tom regretted. Looks like his relationship with Olivia, and then with Nadia showed him that dating publicly as a celebrity is seriously over-rated and that maybe his ex was onto something with her obsession over secrecy. So Tomdaya 2.0 resumed with Tom being as willing to maintain the secrecy as Zendaya. ("It wasn't that we weren't ready to talk about it. It's that we didn't want to.")

as a longtime z stan who's been having to defend her from racist t stans for as long as the word "tomdaya" was ever a thing, i have to ask if you agree with the fact that if they were to break up, things would actually be a lot more peaceful and we wouldn't have to deal with so much of the racist and misogyny that they spew at her? i just feel like unfortunately them dating makes her a topic of their conversation far too often. more often than if they were not dating. and that peace is missed.

OK it took me a while to reply this because I have so many thoughts and they are all over the place.

Lots of those thoughts are questions.

Peace is missed? Peace for who? You? You don't have to "deal" with anything. Zendaya does. It's literally her life. She gets to choose what is worth doing. I think you mean well... Of course, it's good to defend Z (and any Black celeb) against the racists on social media. It's important that their negativity doesn't become the only voice...

But you're still projecting into Zendaya to an extent I'm not comfortable.

In what world is it a good idea for Z or anyone else to make life choices based on "I need racists and misogynists to like me?" By that logic, she shouldn't have taken the MJ role. Or auditioned for Chani. Or in fact done anything that would make her popular and threaten the white-girl-on-the-top status quo. Heck, she should have stayed home in Oakland and never gone into entertainment if "peace" was the goal here.

"Peace" that thrives on oppression is literally the antithesis of the word.

Finally, Zendaya is literally biracial i.e. she exists because an interracial couple said "f--k the world" and got together. I need you to think about that, and think about what it means for you to suggest that Z should walk away from a man she clearly loves and loves/adores her in return, just to make the same people who resent her very existence happy.

Again, I think you mean well but I hope you understand why this kind of thinking is not just problematic but fundamentally dangerous.

I’ve noticed the way the gp/media write about tz is that they’re wholesome and adorable but somehow it also seems to come with a touch of infantilization? Like they’re writing about them as if they’re 19 not 25, nearly 26 . Curious if you’ve noticed the same and if so, what’s the underlying/subconscious reason?

This is so... It's like you're articulating something that was hovering at the fringe of my subconscious but I've never fully thought through? I still haven't thought this through...

@jechristine I feel this is something you will have thoughts on, whether to agree or disagree...

ej: like you said it was a fresh brand new company so i knew not that many people would take their chance with a new company so i decided to audition

niko: well for the most part it was obviously pretty hard but like not as hard. there was a total of fourteen of us so we were told right away that we all were going to debut it was just a matter of who would have the opportunity to be called “the first girl group”

miyung: but at the same time we didnt slack off because we knew that logic could change with the flip of a dime. our ceo shes a women whose also in the industry and who went through the trainee system and the things she didnt like about she changed it for us. so instead having like a zillion different lessons in one day each day was only three lessons max.. anything extra was up to you and then on sundays we had free time to catch up on anything we missed during the week

hyori: well actually we’re not allowed to, she wants us to earn our own success and build our own fanbase up before she comes out and say shes the ceo of our company

The anon talking about Jacobs career: what exactly is the difference between him and Zendaya? Both have only this show plus one or two little (in Z's case) and bigger (in Jacobs case) roles in movies. Let's her real they are both not getting booked. Z only had her Marie part bc she bankrolled M&M . So no sense in shading Jacob for his non-existing career. It's the same with her. Tbh I think he is a much better actor than she is😎

To even try to compare Zendaya to Jacob "who's that?" Elordi is almost laughable. You must be a Jacob Stan.

This dude is fortunate ppl even know who he is outside of Euphoria and Netflix rom-coms like TKB. At this point he's prob more famous for dating Joey King, Zendaya and (currently) Kaia Gerber than he is for any WORK he's actually been doing. 😏

He has a small part in a Ben Affleck film that's coming out, and was practically homeless living in his car and was about to go back home to Australia cuz he wasn't booking any jobs before Sam had the grace to cast him in Euphoria (which, by Jacob's own words he claims to have bombed the audition).

Meanwhile, Zendaya has been acting since she was a kid, was made an Executive Producer on KC Undercover at age 16, is playing the love interest in a HUGE Marvel Franchise film (which most famed actors would love to be a part of), plays the love interest in a film with the son of Hollywood royalty, played with Hugh Jackman in the Oscar and GG nominated film TGS, has TONS of endorsements and billboard ads and magazine covers, has 80M followers on IG, is lead on a hit TV show on HBO, just won a freaking Emmy, and JUST got booked to be playing in her first headlining (I'm assuming) LEAD role on the big screen playing Ronnie Spector in the biopic film about her life.

Z still has a long way to go before she's a "household name" in the elite Hollywood circles when it comes to the big screen, but she's definitely working her way UP, and will go far if she plays her cards right.

I mean, don't even try to compare Zendaya and Jacob in the same sentence lol. Are you kidding me? 🤣

Call me when Jacob is booked as the lead headlining a film. Or, not even a film... even just a TV SHOW! 🙄
