Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Rental Home
Hello, my wonderful friends! It’s really great to start this week with a new Beautiful Homes of Instagram and I know this one will inspire many readers.
Dani Ferretti of @GoldCoastCanvas is talented, brave and she is here to show us that we can make of our home a “home-sweet-home” wherever we are, regardless if it’s our forever home or a rental.
Please, make sure to follow her on Instagram (it will make her day!) and take notes on how she decorated her beautiful rental home!
Hey friends, Dani of @goldcoastcanvas here! I’m so humbled that Luciane reached out to me and it is truly an honor to be featured among such incredibly talented designers here on HomeBunch. I never would have imagined that our once plain-jane rental home would someday be worthy of this. I am feeling excited and grateful (and maybe a little bit like the new girl at the lunch table!).
My boyfriend Brad and I both grew up in South Florida and we are true barefoot, ocean-loving Florida kids at heart. We’ve both bounced around the country (and the globe) quite a bit since leaving home. We most recently moved to Austin, Texas where we’ll stay until it’s time to make the permanent move back home to Florida.
As you can imagine, being away from family and the ocean takes some adjusting to. This is why it was so important that our home in Austin, no matter how temporary, still have space for guests and still reflect that breezy lifestyle we love most. We chose a modern, new-construction home in South Austin not far from downtown. It was the perfect jumping off point for the activities we love most: hiking the greenbelt with our chocolate lab Soko, hitting up our favorite taco truck, or catching some waves at the surf park (yes, you can surf in the middle of Texas!)
I have always loved coastal decor, but it took me years to hone in on my true design aesthetic. Once I started focusing on how I wanted our home to feel rather than how I wanted it to look, everything clicked into place. For this house, I really wanted to create a home that felt like a sanctuary and that was easy to live in – where spaces felt organic and nothing was too precious. I think that is what makes coastal homes so appealing to me. They are meant for the happy messes of sandy feet and salty hair.
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Rental Home
This is the talented homeowner, Dani, with her adorable dog. I am so proud of how she made of this rental a real home.
Home Location: Austin, Texas
Home Specs: Modern, 3 bed / 2.5 bath, 2000sqft
Entryway
I have always loved coastal decor, but it took me years to hone in on my true design aesthetic. Once I started focusing on how I wanted our home to feel rather than how I wanted it to look, everything clicked into place.

Rug: World Market – similar here.
Flooring

For this house, I really wanted to create a home that felt like a sanctuary and that was easy to live in – where spaces felt organic and nothing was too precious. I think that is what makes coastal homes so appealing to me. They are meant for the happy messes of sandy feet and salty hair.
Console Table: Here in Distressed Grey – similar here & here.
Faux Stems: Pottery Barn.
Vase: Target (no longer available) – Others: here & here.
Similar Baskets: here, here & here.
Living Room
I continued the neutral palette into the living room so as not to overwhelm the open space. I grounded it with an amazing collection of pillows from my favorite shops and an earthy, warm coffee table that everyone can gather around. We are just weeks away from getting a brand new custom sofa. I wish it had come in time for pictures but I’ll definitely be sharing it on my feed when it does arrive – so stay tuned!
Beautiful Sectionals: here, here (on sale), here & here.
Tree
Tree: Arbequina Olive Tree – similar here (faux).

White Pillow: here – similar.
Marble Tray: Terrain.
Coffee Table
Coffee Table: Eclectic Goods – similar here, here & here.
Kitchen
The thing that sold me most on this house was the kitchen. As serial renters, we were used to dealing with suboptimal cooking spaces (our kitchen in our San Francisco apartment had about two feet of counter space!) This one felt like a long-awaited luxury to us. I softened the modern finishes with more organic selections like the vintage-inspired rug, aged cutting boards and handmade ceramic dishware.
Wall Color: Dolphin Fin by Behr.

Kitchen Lighting
Light pendants are the 16” Waikiki from MyBaliLiving – similar here & here.
Beautiful Counterstools: here, here, here, here & here.
Dining Area
Our dining room is small but I knew we needed a sizable table for big dinner gatherings. To make it work, I opted for benches that could be pushed under the table when not in use. I love how it created a cozy little nook on the wall side. The photos above the table are actually sketches of the different homes we’ve made memories in: Brad’s apartment in Sydney, the St. Louis bungalow my father grew up in and the 120 year old Victorian we lived in in San Francisco.
Wall Color: Dolphin Fin by Behr.
Table: Pier 1.

Pedestal Sink: here – similar.
Bud Vase: McGee & Co.

Home Office
Upstairs, we have an open loft area that looks out over our living room. I work from home full-time and knew immediately that this would make a great office because it’s a defined space that still feels open to the rest of the house.
Rug
DIY
I wanted to do something unique with the alcove so we opted for some large, diy floating shelves and a gallery wall featuring some of our favorite pieces.
Desk: World Market – Also seen on these “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”: here & here.
Colors & Textures
While I stuck with earthy neutrals, I used this space as an opportunity to be a little more playful with color and pattern.
Desk Chair: Joss & Main.
Pillow: McGee & Co.
Brass Planter: World Market.
Kumquat Print: Nancy Noreth.
Loft
The oversize armchair on the opposite side of the room is a great place for reading (or napping!)
Chair
Chair is from Ashley Furniture – similar chair with ottoman.
Side Table: West Elm.
Lamp: World Market.
Button Pillow: West Elm – similar here.
Wide Mat Gallery Frame over armchair: Pottery Barn.
Guest Bedroom
Down the hall is our guest bedroom. I reupholstered an existing bed to give it a clean linen look like the one in our own room. This room really challenged me to flex my creative muscles and I love the unexpected combination of old and new. The aged metals, rugged handmade nightstands and modern decor accents all come together to create a space that I hope any guest can appreciate.
Sconces: Visual Comfort – Others: here, here, here & here.
Bedding
Bed Blanket in Cool: Coyuchi.
Quilt: here & here – similar
Pillows
Blue Throw Pillows: McGee & Co.

Guest Bathroom
I extended this same theme of old and new into the guest bathroom.
Rug: Loloi.
Wall Paint Color
Hardware: Amerock Bar Pulls in Sterling Nickel.
Prints by Marcelle Calder.
Counters: Cultured marble.
Faucets: Moen.
Master Bedroom
I took my time designing our master bedroom and it is my absolute favorite room in the house. I wanted to keep this room clean and simple, while still giving it enough layers to feel cozy. I stuck with two main colors – a blue/grey and cream – and brought things to life with lots of different textures. From the driftwood nightstands to the chunky cotton quilt to the faded rug, everything in this room is meant to feel a bit organic and weathered, yet still refined.
Paint Color & Bedding
Wall Color: Silver Drop by Behr.
Sunset Painting: McGee & Co.
Quilt: West Elm (I highly recommend bedding by West Elm).
Striped Bed Blanket in Gray: Evangeline Linens Pinstripe Blanket 100% Cotton – similar here & here.

Rug: Surya.
Nightstand
Nightstands are from Pottery Barn.
Nightstand Decor
Basket Tray (with books): here.
Vase: West Elm.
Table Lamps: Pottery Barn.
Master Bathroom
In our master bathroom, the contrast of the dark tiling and the white finishes adds a touch of drama. I kept decor simple with some minimalist palm prints and a faded vintage-inspired runner.
Rug: No longer available – similar here.
Cabinetry
Cabinets: Armstrong Sienna Cabinets in Alpine White.
Tile: 16 x 24 – existing – similar here, here & here.
Towels: Parachute Home.

Backyard
Having usable outdoor space was really important to us. However, when we moved in, our backyard was just a plain patch of grass. Since we’re renting, we worked with our landlord to come up with an affordable solution. With my dad’s help, we built this raised gravel patio ourselves!
Bistro Set: Ikea.
Outdoor Furniture
Outdoor Sectional: No longer available – Others: here, here, here, here, here, here & here.
Umbrella: here – similar.
Stool / Side Table: Safavieh.
Home-Sweet-Home
The new raised gravel patio ended up being a hit in the neighborhood and inevitably, all of our gatherings end up out here. I’m so glad we went for it! It serves as a reminder that no matter where you’re living at the moment, it’s always worth a little investment to make it feel like home. You don’t have to wait for your dream house!
Many thanks to Dani for sharing all of the details above.

Artist Spotlight: Ceramicist Linda Fahey
Linda Fahey is an artist working in ceramics. Her designs explore how form and functionality intersect with her Californian coastal background. YONDER is both her studio and shop, and a place to foster community and conversation. We spoke to her about art, influence, and where to get great sourdough.
Studio AHEAD: Are you originally from the Bay Area?
Linda Fahey: Yes! I'm a fourth-generation San Franciscan!
SA: At Studio AHEAD, half of us grew up here and half of us migrated, but all of us are interested in how California inspires other creative people. What are some cultural/lifestyle aspects that you think are inherent to Northern California, and how do they affect our lifestyle here?
LF: First, San Francisco has always had this "way too cool for school" attitude about it, even before the tech boom. Growing up here and hanging out in the sunset in high school, there was always an aloofness to the SF City kids.
There is a casualness, and comfort in casualness here. I think it's directly related to the ocean/bay—in being surrounded by water. I think the cleanness of the air, the weather changing every five minutes... there is a clean, clear, and elegant nature to the city that trickles down and permeates the style of the city.
Also, it’s small but mighty! This circles back to that "way too cool for schoolness" I was talking about. I've always thought of San Francisco as a village, but with bigger-city attitude, hidden behind a cool exterior.
SA: Tell us the story behind YONDER.
LF: I used to work in corporate; the short story is I was made redundant. I had been making and selling my work for 6 or so years already, so I decided to try to make a go at being a full time artist/maker. Two months into that scary leap I started a four-year relationship with a large retailer, which put me on the map, taught me A LOT, and got me poised to get a studio outside my home. I found a small space in Pacifica, near where I live. It felt too grandiose for just a studio; and to create another income stream, I thought I'd open a shop front. This was before Instagram; and at the beginning of Instagram, once that took off, the shop took off. It was tiny, but I got a lot of press, I was making work for the shop, and had a bustling wholesale business. The move to SF was to find a bigger space, I was busting out of the original space, and have the room to expand both the shop and the studio operations. YONDER shop + studio has been in business for nearly 8 years.
SA: How did you begin your exploration of ceramics?
LF: A million years ago, like 20+ years ago now, I learned how to do mosaics: one thing led to another, I learned to make my own tiles, I then learned to install tile, and once I was good enough I did 10 years (part time) doing kitchen/bathroom/floors/swimming pool installations. The interesting thing is that I started flat, meaning working with slabs to make tiles, and many years of learning ceramics, my entire style was to develop work from flat.
SA: Do you think that there are materials that are inherently Northern Californian?
LF: Yes, I'd go with wood!
SA: Are there any other mediums that you are curious about exploring or you already explore?
LF: I do work in glass as well, though I'm a beginner. I've been doing it intermittently for a couple of years. I do like to collaborate and do some mixed materials.
SA: Is there a common thread among Bay Area ceramists?
LF: I think, to be honest, that it would be opportunity and customer appreciation. We are bustling with opportunity. Though I believe ceramics is going through a real renaissance again all over the world, bred and led by Instagram.
SA: We are working with you on a custom side table for an upcoming residential project. Could you tell us how this piece was created originally and what inspired you?
LF: I have been making that same shape as a smaller piece, and because I am always looking forward and with intention to ways to design new work, I thought that that shape would transfer so well to furniture. I gravitate towards slim, tailored, lean, and modern shapes. I think it's ticking all the boxes for me to be excited to make the pieces and to continue to design more in this style.
SA: Do you collaborate often with other vendors, architects, interior designers? Is there a project that you are collaborating on that you could tell us about?
LF: I often work with designers on projects and make custom pieces. As I'm moving back into custom tile making, I've had the opportunity to do an amazing project with Ken Fulk's office. I've just completed the kitchen tile for Regan Baker for Showcase SF, as well as other items for Regan. I have another two tile projects currently in progress for Katie Martinez Designs and a private residence in Melbourne, Australia. Doing special and custom projects is where I like to put my energy.
SA: OK, time for some questions about local faves. What’s your favorite hike or place to be in nature?
LF: Ah, I live near many trail hikes, and I go on them every day. Sweeny Ridge Trail, Mori Point, Montara Mountain...
SA: Favorite place to shop in Northern California? Besides YONDER, of course.
LF: I'll be honest, I'm not a big shopper. But I love Coup d'Etat, Perish Trust, Future Perfect, De Gourney, small grocery stores—there's a great one in Potrero, I don't even know the name, but I've been going there for probably over 20 years... Healthy Spirits! Best wine/Belgian beer in San Francisco. And Rosalind Bakery, BEST sourdough in the Bay Area!
SA: Lastly, tell us three Instagram accounts of local makers we should follow.
LF: @Zai Divecha, @emilio_villalba, and @goodwood.co

Arplis - News: Simple touches give this condo a personalized stamp
Brooke and Sam knew they were home when they walked into this 1,800-foot, loft-style Brooklyn condo. The three-bedroom Fort Greene apartment was modern and gave them room to grow. That was good, because by the time they’d closed on it, they had one-week-old baby Leroy in their arms. Brooke, a digital media exec, and Sam, a tech specialist, loved the sleek two-floor space, but wanted to freshen up the kitchen and (three!) baths, and give the apartment whimsical style. While in contract, they’d posted their project on Sweeten, a free service that matches renovators with vetted general contractors. Soon, they’d chosen their contractor and had keys to the condo. Here’s how new mom Brooke took the designer’s seat and pulled off a baby-friendly redo in a flash. Guest blog post by Sweeten homeowner Brooke We closed on our home one week after I gave birth to our daughter. The search for an apartment lasted longer than planning for the baby. For almost 2 years my husband and I would visit multiple open houses on a weekend throughout Brooklyn while we rented an apartment in Park Slope (a few blocks from where my husband grew up.) I had sold the apartment on the Upper East Side that I had purchased before we were married in the hopes of us finding a place to purchase together. Finally, while I was pregnant, we found it. When we saw it, we knew Fort Greene was our home. The building is a resident-managed condominium built in 2010. The apartment is a duplex with 1,800 square feet of living space. We loved the clean, modern look and the openness and light in the apartment. It wasn’t perfect, though. All three of the bathrooms needed updating, the kitchen felt tired and the stairs weren’t kid-safe. The upstairs felt challenged: There was no master walk-in closet, a huge landing off of the stairs not fully maximized, and the laundry was tucked into a closet with a small space for linen. We had a vision and felt sure we could fix these problems while adding real value to the property. We had one month left on our Park Slope lease and 10 weeks of work to do. This was my second renovation, but my husband’s first. He felt we needed a designer and architect in addition to a contractor. We weren’t moving plumbing or taking down walls, so an architect wasn’t needed. I convinced him of my designing abilities by creating mood boards on Houzz and pins on Pinterest and making a cohesive design plan. This DIY approach was key to keeping down costs and saving us time. [A neutral bathoom] would ensure that a future buyer wouldn’t find the bathroom too edgy. But I also wanted it to be fun. For the safety of our baby, we wanted a new banister with a closed glass barrier, and to install backings between the treads of the open stairs. Our Sweeten contractor helped me find a way to do this without compromising the style of the modern staircase, which was excellent! While the bathrooms were the main focus, we didn’t have much budget for the kitchen, but it needed a refresh. I decided to replace two sets of cabinet doors with black-framed glass facings to give the space a new feel and continue the open feeling of the glass banister through to the rest of the first floor. I changed out the pendant lights with a coordinating set that has white-glass shades and black cords. This quick-fix was exciting! (Above) Kids’ bathroom I was most looking forward to working on the kids’ bath. I wanted tiles that were neutral and sophisticated—this would ensure that a future buyer wouldn’t find the bathroom too edgy. But I also wanted it to be fun for our little girl. When I saw the blue with pink and yellow floral wallpaper, I knew it was perfect. The shower tiles, with a textured gray pattern, are my absolute favorite feature. (Above) Powder room In the powder room downstairs, we decided to use wood-looking ceramic tiles on the floor I had leftover from a previous renovation. Since the tiling would be neutral, I wanted to add something amusing and sophisticated—the black-and-white floral wallpaper was a find. The large-scale pattern, absent of color, makes the small bathroom pop without looking too busy. (Above) Master bathroom In the master bathroom, we had fun with hexagon floor tiles. The textured gray tiles are Sam’s favorite find—they were a splurge, but by using them to skirt the tub, we didn’t need many. We chose a large mirrored medicine cabinet to increase storage and make the tiny space feel larger. WATCH VIDEO: Overall, we made closet storage more efficient including closing off the washer and dryer, which was located on the second-floor stairwell landing, into its own closet. Now, as a full laundry room, it hides all the linens and clutter. Through it all, our contractor and his team were incredible. They understood that I was on a tight timeline and pushed to get things done quickly. They set up a materials shopping list for me and suggested successful materials from previous renovations they’d done. They helped us source and purchase materials at good prices. My advice as a veteran renovator: when working with contractors, appreciate their expertise! We never had a problem we couldn’t solve with our construction team. We stayed at my mom’s Upper East Side apartment for a month while we finished, and I traveled back and forth from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Our renovation took roughly 10 weeks from start to finish. We had a hard move-in date, as I had booked our baby-naming party and had invited 45 people to the apartment. We hit it! We moved in on Tuesday and everyone came on Saturday. It was a challenge, but worked out perfectly. Every day, my husband and I look around and think, “Wow, we did it.” We designed a space that feels like us—bright, comfortable, and home! Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Connecticut Beach House
Hello my wonderful friends! How are you today? It’s great to be back with this new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” post especially because I am featuring such a talented and kind woman! Marcie, from @designsixtyfive, is a busy mom of two little boys, and, together with her husband, she managed to renovate and decorate this gorgeous Connecticut beach house.
I can’s stress enough for you to follow her on Instagram because she’s one of those rare people you meet and instantly feel connected to. Here, Marcie shares more details about her home:
“When we began planning for our home renovation, Home Bunch was one of my go-to sources for inspiration, so to be sharing our own home on this platform now is such an honor! I first started Design Sixty Five as a way to document our renovation for posterity, not thinking anyone would actually be interested in following along with the progress. A year later, I am truly amazed at how it taken on a life of its own and has become such a fulfilling creative outlet. It brings me so much joy to exchange ideas and inspiration with others and I couldn’t be happier to share our renovation experience here with you!”
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Connecticut Beach House
“We bought this 1920’s colonial in 2012 (before having children) when it was only 1,300 square feet with 3 small bedrooms and 1 bathroom. After growing our family to include 2 kids and 2 dogs, we felt it was time for us to either expand or move. We fell in love with the location of this home, which is within walking distance of downtown as well as the beach, so we decided to renovate in order to make this home work for our family in the long term.”

Expanding your Dreams
“As part of the renovation, we essentially gutted the existing house, demolished an old detached garage and 3-season sunroom, and added on an attached garage, mudroom, kitchen, master suite and junior suite. While it might have been easier to demolish the entire house and start from scratch, we loved the original house and wanted to stay true to its history, charm and character. We replaced the windows, siding and roof and added architectural details to create interest and dimension while honoring the style of the original house. The newly renovated house is approximately 2,400 square feet and has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.”

Balancing Modern Minimalism In Black And White
http://cdn.home-designing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/rectangle-coffee-table-600x338.jpg
The black and white decor palette works wonders in a modern minimalist pad. The weight of dark accents effectively anchors lighter parts, to achieve a sense of permanence and balance. This is an important aspect when fashioning a layout that goes lightly on furniture and accessories, as each significance becomes key. We’ve put together this trio of tours that explore the black and white minimalist vibe in different home settings, since one size does not fit all. Join us for a visit to an angular family home with a corridor-like living room, a stylish pad for a bachelor with a love of Marvel, and a luxury abode polished with expanses of white marble.
Visualizer: Oksana Mukhina
This corridor-like black and white living room has a succinct sense of style, with each simple element taking up just a small beat of the overall layout. A slimline rectangle coffee table puts a sharp dash of white across a plain black sofa. A black pendant shade snappily punctuates a white dining area.
The kitchen itself is a short four base unit installation, which runs right up beside the TV wall of the lounge.
Wall cabinets break out of the kitchen and complete the entire width of the room. Similarly, the white tile kitchen backsplash becomes decor for the TV wall too. The light units and tiling fade behind the balance of a bold black oven and black TV screen.
The striking dining pendant light is a Moooi Random pendant light. Its oversized shade adds a black pitstop to the upper half of the scheme. Around the base of the room, a border of slatted panels looks pinstriped by light and shade. The doorway to the master bedroom has been painted solid black, to visually deepen the length of the short hallway.
Despite the pendant light’s great size, its mesh shade allows daylight to move through it to the back of the long room.
Lighting strips are loaded into black tracks along the ceiling of the hallway, creating a slick border. White interior doors and white storage fall away along the sides.
The black and white bedroom is a dreamy scene. A black feature wall drops a blanket of midnight behind a full ‘moon’ of light. Whilst the bedroom pendant light shines down on an artistic display, the bedside table lamp on the opposite side of the platform bed illuminates a handy nightstand.
A night scene is depicted more literally above the kids’ bed, where the chalk outline of aircraft and hot air balloons fly across a city of stars.
A kid’s study area is fashioned in the corner of the irregular shaped bedroom. Black and white volumes create such depth of contrast that the obscure angle of the window almost does not register.
The floor plan illustrates the irregular angles tackled in both bedrooms.
Visualizer: Vladimir Korobov
This apartment was designed for a young guy with a love of monochrome and Marvel. In order to introduce this passion into the interior without disrupting the monochrome magic, the posters were reprinted in a gradient of grey. The interior itself is masculine without extra frills. The lounge arrangement is simply a chaise sofa and a black floor lamp, though a black accent wall gives the small space big impact.
A cat bed scoots out from under a wall mounted media cabinet. A note of loft style comes through in the form of an original brickwork wall, which has been painted jet black. This is a dividing wall between the living room-kitchen combo and a bedroom.
A dining peninsula makes more of the small L-shaped kitchen installation. A black backsplash dramatises the cabinets white colourway.
Wood laminate flooring warms up the black and white decor scheme.
The wood laminate planks end at the home entryway, where they are replaced by hard wearing black tile. The darker floor treatment defines the entryway as its own area. A full length mirror with a handy shelf further establishes the change of zone.
Solid black blanks out the bedroom door opposite the entry.
A black pouf stands by a set of grey storage cabinets and a coat nook.
An enclosed balcony becomes a reading nook with a few slick additions. A platform with storage drawers elevates a small side table and beanbag to window viewing height. A bar with stools accesses the remainder of the panorama.
In the bedroom, a large wall light beams from a ribbed black headboard wall. The texture and colour density distracts the eye from a wall of white storage.
A minimalist Spider Man poster props against the exposed brick feature wall.
An ergonomic swivel chair pulls up at the minimalist workspace.
Things lighten up in the bathroom with a white dominant scheme.
A wooden bathroom stool adds a softening natural element.
Black toilet roll makes an unexpected style statement!
Elegant and understated, a unique pedestal sink fits the small space beautifully.
Floor plan.
Visualizer: Studio Light Design
Going up the size scale, this luxury home is airy and light despite its deliciously dark decor.
A grey sectional sleeper sofa strikes around two sides of the impressive living room.
The black square coffee table links with the visual of solid black window blinds around the entire perimeter of the open plan room.
Bright white beams of light hang from the modern chandelier.
Perimeter LEDs add to the fresh lighting display.
The modern fireplace is set within a commanding black chimney column. Check out ideas for a modern fireplace screen here.
Black and white artwork adds to the drama of the scheme.
White marble tiles send bolts of grey vein across the living room floor.
A modern black dining set presides over the black and white dining room.
Wafer thin dining room pendant lights slice the air.
The luxury kitchen is a vision of pure white. Clean kitchen bar stools line up against an exaggerated white island.
Linear suspension lights above the marble kitchen island dash a disruption of black.
Black window frames crisply cut the border.
Black modern wall sconces highlight industrial style raw concrete decor in the hall.
1. Black and white animal print rug 2. Accent planter bowl 3. Black pendant lights 4. Black and white ceramic vase 5. Arne Jacobsen style swan accent chair 6. Gallery wall art 7. Black and white coffee table 8. Modern chandelier 9. Black floor lamp

Interior Design Ideas: Home Renovation
Hello everyone! Do you have plans for the weekend? The weather is still very cold here and I am planning on slowing down and making some healthy and hearty meals and read “Design your next chapter” by Debbie Travis. I just got it and I am excited to start reading it. Let me know your thoughts if you have already read it. It seems to be a short and fun book – perfect to be read on a weekend.
But before I take a few hours to read my book, I hope you enjoy this beautiful home renovation done by Molly Griggs Interiors and with photography by Marina Storm of Picture Perfect House (also featured here). This is a two-story colonial home that belongs to a young family of four. They purchased their home and it was gutted to the studs to make it more open and functional for their family.
In my opinion, this home feels trendy without being ridiculous. I am sorry, but please correct if I am the only person thinking that people are overdoing when it comes to trends lately. There’s too much of the same and very little authenticity out there. Every house looks the same and everyone seems to be using the same “formula”. I have been working hard to find spaces that have a “soul” and I hope you enjoy seeing how beautifully renovated and decorated this home was. Nothing feels overdone and you can picture people actually living in these rooms. After all, that’s why we spend time and money with our home; to comfortably live in it.
Have fun seeing this lovely family home and feel free to pin your favorite interior pictures and share this house tour!

Quick and Easy Fix To Your QUESTIONS ABOUT INTERIOR DESIGN
New Post has been published on http://mydecoradvice.com/homedecor/quick-and-easy-fix-to-your-questions-about-interior-design/
Quick and Easy Fix To Your QUESTIONS ABOUT INTERIOR DESIGN
Interior design is a concern for anyone that wants his or her home to have a certain feel to it. Whether you want your home to be cozy, comfortable or welcoming, there are ways to send that message!
Figure out what mood you're trying to set and use that as the basis for your color choices. If you want it to be relaxing or calming, consider using light and cool colors like blues and greens. Your color choices and your choice of furniture should all be based on what you're trying to accomplish with the look and feel of the room.
One of the easiest steps in interior design involves painting a room. Paint gives a room a fresh look, and it can completely change the feeling in the space. Paint allows you to put a dash of your individual style in the space, and it is an inexpensive way to begin redesigning your home.
If you decide to use an interior designer, communicate your goals and budget to them. Professional designers often have ambitious plans. Sometimes those plans clash with the homeowner's taste or their pocketbook. Don't be timid. If what the interior designer suggests doesn't fit your goals, tell them. You are the one who has to live with the designer's choices.
How I Whitewashed a Brick Floor for $14
inmyownstyle.com
"This post is from the blog, InMyOwnStyle.com When you have a brick floor in your home with dark bricks or where the bricks and grout are a similar color and you want to create contrast – whitewashing the floor is one easy and inexpensive way to do it. Back in January, I posted about a DIY floor painting project I planned to… Read More If you enjoyed this post you may also enjoy the easy to follow DIY Decorating Tutorials and Creative Ideas on my blog." https://inmyownstyle.com/how-to-whitewash-brick-floor.html
Anyone who is undergoing an interior-design project would be wise to incorporate mirrors into the room. Mirrors have two major benefits to any room they are in. First, they give the appearance that the room is larger than it is, and second, they reflect light making your room look brighter.
If you feel that interior design ideas don't just come to you, gather ideas for yourself. Many cities have decorated showhouses designed by interior designers to help the public gain insight into designing. If you don't feel like visiting a showhouse, look at different books, home decorating and designing magazines or use the Internet as inspiration.
Arrange your furniture smartly. Walk around your rooms and take different paths: are you able to easily go from one room to the other? Furniture should not be in your way, and yet some items should be made central if you wish to create a theme or a color pattern based on a piece of furniture.
If you're working on designing for a small space, adding light can greatly increase the feeling of size in the room. Adding light fixtures and using appropriate drapery can increase the amount of light in the room. Mirrors are also a great way to increase light and increase the apparent size of a small space.
If you're feeling uninspired, pick a single piece you love and build your room around that. Do you have a family heirloom lamp you're excited to display? A beautifully framed picture of your loved ones? When you use a piece, you love as a starting point, it'll be easy to put together an entire room that feels special.
Historic Stone Church Turned Into a Functional Modern Home
decoholic.org
"This particular property has an interesting history and once served as a renaissance era church before being abandoned. Recently the property’s new owners decided to give it a new lease on life and Garmendia Cordero Architects converted the historic church into a functional, modern loft. Garmendia Cordero made use of the building’s tall ceiling and built […] The post Historic Stone Church Turned Into a Functional Modern Home appeared first on Decoholic." http://decoholic.org/2019/08/02/historic-stone-church-turned-into-a-functional-modern-home/
Clean up. Before starting any interior design, it is a good idea to make sure everything is very clean. Your carpet may look terrible, but it may not need to be replaced. It is possible that it just needs a good cleaning! Gt everything cleaned up before deciding on what to do next, and you may save yourself money and time.
If you have a husband who likes to sit and watch sports with his friends, invest in an ottoman. These devices are great to reduce the tension on the legs during a long session of watching television. Try to match the ottoman with the couch in your entertainment room for a wonderful look.
When figuring out what flooring to put in your bedroom, stay away from ceramic tiles, marble and granite. These materials tend to make the floor cold, which is not a pleasant feeling when stepping out of bed in the morning. If you can, try to put down carpet or hardwood floors.
A great interior-design tip is to do your own painting. You can save a lot of money by painting on your own. You just have to make sure you do a good job, and that it's neat. All you need for this is some carefully placed tape and something to protect the floor.
Jane Austen fans will love this house in the village where she penned Pride & Prejudice

"Will you find this location as inspiring as the famous author once did? The post Jane Austen fans will love this house in the village where she penned Pride & Prejudice appeared first on Ideal Home." https://www.idealhome.co.uk/news/dower-house-chasten-hampshire-231862
A good interior-design tip is to realize how important a frame is to a painting or piece of art that you'd like to hang. The average person will probably just grab any old frame but there are some that are more appropriate for situations. You can never really go wrong with a gold frame.
A guest bedroom can easily be designed to serve as an office space too. Consider putting in a futon instead of a bed, or a murphy bed that folds into the wall. This frees up space when you need to use the room as an office, and it still allows for adequate sleeping area when guests arrive.
If you are starting a family, make sure that you add many different pictures around the house of your kids or wedding. This can help to personalize your home and serve to remind you of the important people of your life each and every day. Family portraits are a great way to individualize your space.
When you are decorating a room, save space and money by buying furniture that has more than one use. Trundle beds are great for sleep overs or kids that share a room. There are also many innovative pieces of furniture that transform for convenience. Like coffee tables that can transform into desks.
Use decorative baskets or colorful tins to store bathroom items. Baskets can be a great addition to any home and get rid of clutter. These are great to put near the tub to store newspapers or magazines. Baskets can also be hung up on the wall or you can put them beneath your vanity table.
You do not have to break the bank in order to make your home look nice. Adding some flowers, changing the curtains or repainting can make a world of difference. Interior design should be something anyone considers when updating their home. Remember the tips in this post for a great look!

Thank you, Brooke and Sam, for sharing your new home! KITCHEN RESOURCES: Custom cabinet doors: Cabinetmaker sourced through contractor. Pendant light fixtures: Alibaba.
