A laconic interior that pays attention to functionality. Monochrome, austere furniture, free space, austere decor are the hallmarks of a minimalist interior.
It is better to make the walls plain and play with texture. Alternate matte with glossy, rough with smooth. It is permissible to combine different textures: concrete, porcelain stoneware, natural linen, wood, metal.
Country
A lot of textiles are typical for the country. Chairs or a small bench decorated with pillows are placed at the table. A tablecloth or track is selected on the tabletop. The decor is complemented by curtains and carpets.
Country furniture is made of dark and light wood. The walls are decorated with wall panelling and patterned wallpaper. Opt for floral, stripe, and plaid. A fireplace is traditionally installed in a country house.
Scandinavian style
The Nordic style is characterized by simplicity, functionality, cold palette, restraint in decor. The smaller the room, the less furniture.
Scandinavian interiors do not tolerate clutter and clutter. There should be no glossy or shiny surfaces – only matte.
Use light pastel colors for decoration and decor. The walls are not necessarily only white, light gray, pale blue, olive is also suitable.
The main material should be light wood. For textiles and upholstery, choose linen, cotton and other textured fabrics. For an accent, you can use bright colors, geometric shapes and patterns, wool rug and fluffy pillows.
Loft
The industrial style fits perfectly into the studio space. Suitable for finishing are brick, concrete, cement, decorative plaster, stone. Such cold and brutal materials need to be diluted with bright, but complex colors: burgundy, indigo, olive, mustard.

dining room styles
What kind of dining room? this is the question a lot of people might ask themselves when looking for inspiration.
Having a beautiful dining room doesn’t necessarily mean it should look formal. In fact, certain elements and designs are usually seen informal dining rooms should be avoided as they have the tendency to make your space feel narrow and cold.
A dining room is one of the most used spaces in the house, that is why it should happen to be comfortable, warm, and inviting – just like your home.
Decor
Dining room interior design also has the right to be fun. A symphony of textures and facades, beautiful textiles and an unusual form of furniture can be present in this area:
Textile: A waterfall of curtains and small pillows on the chairs. Napkins and tablecloths, an elegant path in the middle of the table. The carpet zones the space.
Lighting: Use crystal or metal, bright colors and unusual shapes to match your style. Floor lighting will add charm to space.
Furniture: Accentuate chairs: choose models with soft upholstery in a matching color. High backs add luxury. Showcases or tall cabinets with stained-glass windows become decor along with beautiful tableware.
Additional decor: Pictures and posters fit perfectly into the interior of the dining area. A small room can be visually expanded with mirrors. Bio fireplace adds comfort and tranquillity.
The dining room is the best place to showcase your collections. Guests will be interested to consider and discuss them during the meal.
A collection of wine can be arranged on an open shelf, and a small change can be put on display cases. In a private house, you can put a grand piano or a large grandfather cuckoo clock.
Tips for choosing a dining table size
A correctly sized dining table not only brings convenience but also harmoniously fits into the interior. First of all, you need to determine how many people the dining area is.
A transforming table is perfect for a small family and frequent guests. Extra chairs can be placed around the room.
For a large family, choose a table that is large enough for everyone to have room. But for combined rooms, proportions must be taken into account. A huge table can ruin the interior and become a place to store unnecessary things.
Calculation formula
According to the laws of ergonomics and etiquette, there should be 60×35 cm for each person at the table.
This allows you to put a dinner plate, cutlery on the sides and the necessary wine glasses. Leave approximately 20 cm in the centre of the table for dishes and decanters.
Add to the indicated size on all sides 75 cm from the edge of the table to the wall or other furniture. This distance is necessary to make it comfortable to move the chair back and get up.
Dining room styles
Classic
In the classic style, a chic crystal chandelier over the dining table is required. The table itself is made of wood.
The overall design is done in soft colors. Stone and metal can also be used in modern classics.
The main components of the classics are modesty and muteness. Curtains are selected from multi-layered fabric, fabrics are symmetrically draped. Pictures with landscapes, different-sized vases, a composition of delicate flowers on the table are welcome.
Art Deco
Art Deco style transforms the room into a grand dining room. The style is characterized by luxurious furnishings and finishes. The interior is decorated in neutral colors: white, black, beige, grey, brown. Accents are set in gold, silver, red and burgundy.
Expensive natural materials, wood, stone and natural leather prevail in the design. In furniture and decoration, use mirrors, lacquered and glossy surfaces. The highlight will be the crystal glassware, placed in the backlit stained glass windows.

Blog Post #8
What materials does the artist work with?Sarah Sze is known for working with sculptures and everyday objects. She will often create installations or displays utilizing everyday objects in a new fashion. She has also been known to use mirrors, wood, stainless steel, archival pigment prints, stools, lamps, desks, projectors, stone, rope, plants, qtips, wire, photographs, string, color silkscreen, outdoor materials, sound effects, folded clothes, desk fans, textbooks, and laser engravings.
What is the main idea/driving force behind the artwork? (What topic/s is it responding to?)Sarah wants to enforce the ideas of interconnectivity and sustainability. Some say that Sarah’s work “attempts to navigate and model the ceaseless proliferation of information and objects in contemporary life”. She analyzes the value we place on objects. She also considers how objects may assign meaning to the times and places we inhabit. Sarah hopes that her art has the effect to "challenge the very material of sculpture, the very constitution of sculpture, as a solid form that has to do with finite geometric constitutions, shapes, and content." When speaking about the Biennale Arte from 2015, Sarah also mentions that she wants the art to be entropic. She talks about how the art can be created from the landscape- water dripping will cause the material to decay and create art. She really wanted to incorporate the landscape in her work and not take away from the natural environment she was creating in. She wants her art to increase the “volume” on your sense of every part of a space, including your sense of sound, your sense of light, and your sense of nature. She also attempts to challenge the “static” nature of sculpture.
What art historical roots/influences does the artist reference or use as inspiration? While watching a video about the Biennale Art of 2015, Sarah says that she feels the place is so “layered” and that you can “feel the layers of history”. She says that she wants to “trace” and “highlight” the history so that you notice the incredible features of the place, like fallen buildings, tops of walls, a sink, old buildings. She does not mention specific historical events but perhaps is referencing the idea of the history behind the space- the people and things that have inhibited the space previously, and how the landscape has changed and aged/grown. Sarah also uses architecture and sculpture as an influence in the majority of her work. She may draw some inspiration from her previous formal studies of sculpture and architecture.
How is the artist responding specifically to our time and/or location? Sarah uses everyday found objects. Most if not all of these objects are things that we would experience in our everyday life like lamps, wood, clothing, sleeping bags, string, books, etc. Her work is often intended to imitate the overwhelming sensory experience that exists in our everyday life in the modern world. Also, her ideas of sustainability and interconnectivity are extremely important and relevant to the current environmental issues we are experiencing (climate change, etc.)
What are the identifying qualities of the artist’s style? Sarah is known for utilizing found objects/everyday materials in her installations. She often uses these objects in ways they would not have been used previously, and is said to create “multimedia landscapes” with her use of everyday objects. She is also known for her use of sculptures in her work. Sarah is known for large installations that often change the way a space is occupied. Additionally, Sarah has, on many occasions, suspended parts of her work in her installations to create a transitionary sense or a sense of ongoing change.
How has the artist's work changed over time? Looking back at Sarah’s older work, the pieces seem a bit more minimalistic and perhaps less colorful (though this is not true for all of her older work), but seem to convey many of the same messages and ideas as her modern work. When speaking about an installation in 2012, Sarah says that since now she has children space and time have more weight/relevance to her. She tries to display these ideas in much of her newer work. Some of her older work like “Corner Plot” from 2006 seem to focus more on solid matter or geometric shapes, like triangles. Her newer work seems to be progressively more abstract and has a lot of open space or hollow areas.
What controversy surrounds this artist’s work? (What do the critics say?)
I really could not find any negative criticism of Sarah’s work. However, there were many positive reviews that compliment her use of unusual materials to create abstract sculpture/installations.
What interdisciplinary connections can be made with the work?Sarah’s work can be related to many different branches of knowledge such as: architecture, environmentalism, space/time, materialistic culture, and any modern conceptions of knowledge.
What do you find interesting about the work? I find Sarah’s work to be extremely interesting on many levels, but one of the main things that interests me about Sarah’s work is the way she utilizes the space her installations are set up in. She often leaves empty/hollow spaces. In many of her pieces, she creates a “transition” of time. In some pieces, this is done by suspending objects in the air. In another piece, she uses newspapers such as the New York TImes in chronological order to show the passing of time. Many of Sarah’s pieces are meant to be fluid/”move” and I find that super interesting. I also like her use of unconventional materials for her artwork.
Explain 2-3 pieces related to the topic in depth.
1.In her Model Series from 2013-2015, Sarah creates a globe out of unusual materials like wire, living plants, plastic ?, dried drips of paint, suspended rocks (hanging from blue string), stone/cement, and so on. The globe is see through as it has many hollow spaces and is not made from one solid material. The use of color in this piece is very minimalistic and does not have overwhelming amounts of blue and green like a typical globe may.
2.In her installation known as Corner Plot, there is a small sculpture which at first looks like a textured triangle. Upon further inspection, you realize that it quite literally looks like the corner of a building. There are portions of a railing on what appears to be the roof, brick on the outside walls, and even part of a window. There is nothing else surrounding the piece as it seems to be eaten by the ground it is displayed on.
3. In her installation Tilting Planet (centrepiece), Sarah uses a countless number of different everyday objects and materials to create an overwhelming sensory experience and even some confusion. Upon first glance, the scene looks like a construction site. There are materials scattered about everywhere, and yet the space seems open. All of the surrounding walls are white. There are small green balls which look like minuscule shrubbery on a small portion of the ground. There are blue feathers? (not sure about the material) suspended by string, cascading underneath a small desk lamp. This may remind the viewer of water. There are pillows, rubber bands, small pieces of cement, a ladder, and so many more unidentifiable materials all organized neatly, sectioned separately, on the floor.

Inspiring Home Renovation
Hi, my dear friends. How are today? It’s getting really cold here and I had to take a little break while writing this post to make myself a mug of hot chocolate. I am being so bad about sweets lately! I am really into baking and all I will say is that I have to put myself back on track! Anyone feeling the same way? It’s so hard to avoid these type of temptations at this time of the year, right?
You can’t think about food without thinking of kitchens… unless you love to eat out, which is something I also love doing! But if you enjoy cooking and baking, having a beautiful kitchen certainly can make you feel more inspired and even help make things easier and more practical. If you’re looking for kitchen renovation ideas, this post should really inspire you. In fact, it might even inspire you to renovate not only your kitchen but also extend it to your mudroom and laundry room as well. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Please keep reading to know more details about this beautiful and welcoming home renovation done by Katelyn of KBG Design. She’s a wonderful and talented interior designer and I feel we will learn a thing or two with her today:
“Our clients wanted a bright and classic white kitchen/ laundry/ mud room with touches of warm grey and accents of marble, brass, and natural wood elements. They wanted to keep the color palette neutral so that colorful accessories could be swapped out during various holidays throughout the year. This project was an addition plus an interior remodel reconfiguration. We were brought in on the project after permits were already pulled, but did some tweaks to the plans during construction to accommodate details that the homeowner wanted. From there, we custom designed all the cabinetry, built-ins and tile layouts and we quite involved during construction to ensure proper design execution.” – Katelyn of KBG Design.
Inspiring Home Renovation
Designer Tip: “If you want to do away with an eat-in kitchen table, make sure you have plenty of room for seating at your island – and be mindful as to where those are placed. Play close attention to keeping guests out of the kitchen’s main work-triangle i.e. the connection between the sink/fridge/cooktop. I often place the refrigerator right at the transition between the public and private space of the kitchen just like this kitchen. That way, guests can access the refrigerator without crossing through the cook’s work triangle.”
White Kitchen Paint Color
Soft Color Palette: “For the cabinet paint color, I selected Dunn Edward’s Cool December”, which I feel is the perfect balance of a white that is not too creamy or yellow, but still has hints of warmth to it. It’s basically the perfect white.”
Vent Hood: Zephyr 42”.
Pot Filler: Kingston Brass.
Backsplash
“For the backsplash, my clients wanted a traditional honed Carrara Marble so we went with the 3” x 6” size in an offset pattern by Bedrosians. This really shows off the variety of veining throughout the natural stone.”
Backsplash: Bedrosians 3×6 Carrara Marble Tile.
Counterstools
Counterstools are Rove Concepts (provided by the client) – similar here.
Beautiful Counterstools: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Eat-in
“Many of our clients are doing away with kitchen tables and opting for super large islands. That way family and guests can be close by or dine informally while still gathering together in the kitchen.”
Dimensions: Kitchen space is 26’-7” x 14’ deep or 365 square feet including the desk command center area.
All Appliances by GE Monogram.
Kitchen Island
“Because this island is so large (7’-8” x 10’), we were larger than any single available engineered quartz material. So, we opted to source a manufacturer that makes consecutive slabs. You’d never know it, but this island has a seam but it’s unnoticeable in real life and in pictures.
The island countertop is Vadara’s Calcatta Blanco, an engineered quartz, which again has ribbons of warm gray mixed with gold on a mostly off-white background.”
Kitchen Sink & Lighting
Kitchen Sink: Kohler Undermount single-bowl farmhouse kitchen sink.
Lighting: Wayfair (provided by the client) – similar here (great quality).
Kitchen Faucet
Kitchen Faucet: Kingston Brass Bridge-Style Kitchen Faucet.
White Oak Island
“The island was custom stained by the cabinet maker to match the warm-toned engineered hardwood flooring by Hallmark Floors, Alta Vista Collection in color Del Mar.”

Homework Zone
Kitchen Trends: “Many clients are requesting built-in desks areas that I call a command center- if you will. A place for a laptop or desktop computer, file storage, charging stations, etc.”
Shelves: Restoration Hardware Floating Metal Shelf in “Brass” (68” size). Others: here (White Oak).
Chairs: here.
Layout
The mudroom and laundry room are located close by the kitchen. Ahead, you will find the formal dining room.
Beautiful Runners: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Cabinetry
“We went through great lengths to design every inch of the cabinetry to give it a truly custom look. My client has beautiful taste so she was already equipped with several concept images and selections to inspired our designs. Instead of a traditional one-piece crown, we created our our crown by inverting a base moulding plus a 1” x 1” which is traditional with a twist – and might be my favorite part of the kitchen.”
Cabinet Hardware: Rejuvenation Cabinet Pulls & Knobs Mission Collection, unlacquered brass.
Perimeter Countertop
“The perimeter is a velvet Cabrini Grey engineered quartz by Daltile. The grey perimeter broke up all the white cabinetry without weighing the color palette down.”
Family Living
The kitchen opens to a comfy and inviting family room.
Fireplace
The fireplace is flanked by custom cabinets and White Oak floating shelves.
