my blog contains 18+ content that may be uncomfortable or triggering, including but not limited to: smoking, drugs/alcohol, sex (m and f), dark themes, violence, yandre behavior, noncon, and overall attraction towards men that would most likely put me on some sort of watch list and more !

Like a moth to a flame (Shine/OC)
Ok people, first time posting a fic so please be nice and forgive any mistakes (please remember Portuguese is my first language).
I blame totally @catz4ever for this idea after posting that picture above.
Cross posted on ao3.
Summary: Inspector Shine is obsessed on finding Edmund Reid, who is now a fugitive. He suspects someone is hiding him: his sister.
Notes: OC is Edmund Reid's sister and already acquainted with Shine. There is smut so minors, STAY AWAY. Feedback is appreciated!
There was a loud knock, or rather a loud bang at the front door of the house. The housekeeper rushed to answer it, opening as quickly as she could before a bunch of uniformed men from the local police station, led by Inspector Shine, rushed inside without even having permission to do so.
“Search every room in the house! He must be hiding here somewhere”, shouted Shine yo his goons.
Erin Reid walked down the stairs and met the Inspector in a calm manner. “You could tell me what you are looking for my dear Mister Shine, instead of causing all this havoc around my house.” She was quite aware of his intimidation tactics and would certainly not give in to them.
Shine chuckled, a smirk crossing his lips as he studied her up and down, measuring his opponent before giving a step forward into her direction and getting closer to her.
She did not blink or showed any change at that gesture. “Your dear brother Edmund is, as now, a fugitive as you might have known”.
She scoffed, shaking her head, “As if my brother would be so naive as to try to hide in here. Neither of us are that stupid, Jedediah,” she said his name slowly, knowing full well the effect it had on him, especially in the way it was said by her, like honey dripping from her lips.
For years, the two of them kept a flirtation going but nothing had come out of that, especially with her brother forbidding anything else between them but Shine had something about him that made her attracted to him, even knowing that was dangerous and she could not deny she felt an attraction, like a moth to a flame.
“There is no one down here sir. Maybe he is hiding upstairs? I think we should check, Inspector.”
Shine blocked the way, “I will look for him upstairs, you may all go back to the station.” When he said that, her hand grabbed the banister, knowing fully well what he had in mind, especially by the way he was staring at her lips, his breath shallow as he did so.
Her housekeeper locked the door and noticing the way he was close to her mistress walked towards her. Erin lifted her other hand, showing she was alright. “I am fine Mrs Harris, I know what I am dealing with.” The woman nodded and left, heading back to the kitchen at the back of the house.
Shine smirked again, moving his hand over hers and holding it against the banister, “Are you sure about that Miss Reid?”
If there was one thing she knew was how to deal with men like him. For a few years she had been working at an association aimed at helping abused women, and that is why she ended up in Whitechapel with her brother and friends with Susan Hart. Edmund had always tried to protect her from that place and the thugs around.
“May I lead the way, Mister Shine?” He nodded and allowed her to walk ahead of him, heading upstairs. “There are a few places around here where he might be hiding, where would you like to search first?” she asked him with a teasing tone.
Shine licked his lips, his voice rougher than usual, “I believe your bedroom would be the ideal place to start.”
She opened the door and he entered behind her, walking as if he owned the place. No other man had ever set foot in her room, not even her brother, let alone the one who was presently courting her, Inspector Abberline.
Shine closed the door and placed his cane against the wall then removed his long coat and tossed it over an armchair. Taking back the cane, he pushed it against her chest, pushing her so she would sit down on the bed.
“It seems he’s not here, such a shame. Well, you know me well by now Miss Reid, I am not a man who likes to leave empty handed.”
Would he dare hurt her to force his brother out of hiding? Edmund had indeed spent the night there but vanished before she woke up and she had no idea where he was now. She hated herself for already feeling something between her legs just by the fact that he was so damn close like that.
“Let me guess, you will force yourself on me in order to get revenge over my brother for the simple fact he humiliated you? If that’s the reason, you are wasting your time Jedediah because I am not afraid of you and I am quite curious to see how you would react if the woman you are making such a threat actually wants you to do it.”
For a moment, it seemed as if his brain had short circuited, clearly expecting her to resist his advances and not the other way around.
He dropped the cane and pulled her closer, grabbing her by her waist. “This is indeed going to be interesting, I can’t remember the last time I was in this role before.” He whispered those words against her ear, his bearded chin brushing against her neck, sending shivers all over her body.
Boldly, she looked into his eyes, “You don’t have to be gentle Jedediah, I’ve done this before.” He nibbled her earlobe, making her moan softly, “I wasn’t planning to Miss Reid.”
A long smirk crossed his lips and he crashed them against hers, not waiting for an invitation to have his tongue in a battle for dominance with hers. She cupped his face, moaning loudly as they kissed, his mouth tasting like a mix of cheap whisky and tobacco from his cigar.
She was expecting him to rip her clothes apart and neglect her mouth but they’ve been playing that seduction game for quite some time in order for them not feeling at least something for each other. He could have taken her over his desk at the precinct easily enough if that was not the case.
They broke the kiss, both panting for a moment, “How are you doing this to me?” he asked her. “Just take me Jedediah.” The way his name left her lips was enough to drive him insane. He reached to the buttons of her dress, ripping them while revealing the corset she was wearing under it.
“Why do women have to wear such contraptions?” he asked while getting on his knees and took her shoes off while pulling the skirt of her dress down. She took off his vest, then his cravat, followed by his shirt, revealing the muscles on his chest. She had seen him shirtless before when she snuck out in one of his fights but it still amazed her how firm and fit he was.
He noticed her staring and lifted her chin with his finger, “Like what you see Miss Reid?” She nodded, placing both her hands over his chest, closing her eyes for a moment to feel them, “I like the sensation as well.”
He pulled her body against his and she gasped at the hardness against her stomach, “What about this one then?” She moved her hand and palmed over the bulge in his trousers, “Very much indeed.”
He was tired of being nice so he turned her around and ripped her corset, making her gasp in surprise, wondering for a moment how he’s even managed to do that. She felt her breasts free and he pulled the long thin shirt she was still wearing, apart from her socks, over her head.
He sucked against her neck, his large hands grabbing her breasts as she felt her bare back against his hard cock. “I should throw you over that bed and have you on your knees while I fuck you but if I do that I won’t be able to see the look in your eyes while I do it. How do you feel about riding me instead? Would you like that?”
She was panting heavily, her head spinning, feeling her arousal already dripping down her thigh. “Are you actually giving me a choice here Jedediah? I was not expecting this from you to be honest.”
He let go of her for a moment as he undid his trousers, freeing his erection fully. “Turn around and see what’s waiting for you.” She did as he asked and swallowed hard at the sight in front of her. The tip of his cock was already dripping, touching his stomach, making her salivate
She had spent enough time around Long Susan’s brothel so she knew exactly what to do. She got on her knees and crawled towards him, getting a satisfied chuckle from him, “My my Miss Reid, aren’t you full of surprises?”
“You have no idea,” she said when she reached him, moving her hands up his legs, feeling the strong muscles of his thighs. She shyly licked the base of his cock, her nose buried in the patch of dark hair there, getting a moan from him. She lifted her eyes and he grabbed her hair, guiding her through it, “Go on,” he said in a raspy voice encouraging her.
That was all she needed to hear before licking the full length of his cock, noticing carefully the sounds he made at each spot. She then licked the tip, tasting the salty pre-cum already there, before opening her mouth and letting it slide inside it, something that made him growl in pleasure and increase the grip over her hair.
He began to move her head, encouraging her to continue what she was doing. She was surprised she wasn’t choking with his size but the tightness seemed to improve the pleasure he was feeling. She felt her saliva dripping down her chin and the sounds he was making increasing.
He suddenly stopped, “Don’t move,” he gasped and released her mouth, suddenly grabbing her and placing her over the bed, “It seems you are spending too much time in Susan’s house of business.”
It seemed he’s changed his mind about her riding him and instead slid between her legs, kissing her again, biting her lower lip, “You taste like me Miss Reid, what will your Fred do if he finds out?” She pulled him close, moaning again as she felt his hard cock against her stomach, “Fred is not that innocent, knowing him, he would like to watch us fucking like this.” She gently scratched his back as she moved her hands up and down, loving the deep sounds he was making as she touched him.
“This is your last chance, aren’t you going to tell me where he is?” She shook her head, “My guess is as good as yours Jedediah.” He groaned and spread her legs, holding his cock in his hand and giving it a few strokes before placing it in her entrance, “I can’t promise I’ll be gentle Miss Reid, you are so fucking wet for me. So hard to resist.”
She was panting heavily, her heart beating loudly against his chest, “Take me Jedediah,” she begged him. He closed his eyes and easily slid inside her, making them both moan and groan loudly. He placed his hands on each side of her head and began to move, “Fuck, so tight for me,” he gasped, burying his face against her neck as he began to move his hips, dragging out all sorts of sounds from her as he did it.
He pulled her legs around his hips, increasing the speed of his thrusts. She arched her back, cursing him over and over. His breathing became more and more shallow and with one final thrust, he came hard inside her, “Erin…….” he groaned, saying her name for the first time that night. She felt something as well, a tidal wave of pleasure, not sure if that was an orgasm or not but it made her legs feel weak as he collapsed on top of her. She reached for him, stroking the back of his head as he panted heavily against her neck.
She didn’t want to let him go but knowing him, he would soon get up and return to work as if nothing had happened. He moved, sliding from inside her and she could feel his seed dripping from inside her.
He got up, gathering his clothes and getting ready to leave. She pulled the sheets over her naked body, sighing. To her surprise, he sat down next to her, lowering his head and kissing her. “It seems the search wasn’t conclusive, I’m afraid I’ll have to return tonight and have a more detailed and thorough search if you won’t mind Miss Erin.”
She smiled and stroked his bearded cheek, “I won’t mind at all Inspector Shine.” He lowered his head and whispered in her ear, “Try to rest, I can’t promise I’ll be this gentle later tonight.” He kissed her one last time before getting up and left the room, having her hoping his brother was never found.

1000 scribbled words to nowhere, a Ripper Street mini sickfic offered up as brief distraction from the events of rl. apparently this is what i'm doing for novella november. hopefully someone enjoys it.
Jackson's not in the best mood when he gets to the crime scene, having been rousted rather rudely from his bed. Another body, the uniform had said, refusing any further detail. The kid was green in more than just experience, but he'd gotten his point across and stood firm behind it. The American was summoned. To decline an unacceptable option.
He greets Reid and Drake without really looking their way, not bothering to temper his annoyance. There's a headache lurking behind his eyes, the result of too much gin and not enough sleep. His focus is only on the body and how quickly he can get out of here. He crouches beside the dead man, already pretty damn sure of the cause of death. Drake wanders off into the adjoining room.
Reid clears his throat. "Strangulation, then? As with the others?"
"Yeah, and you didn't need me here to tell you that."
"Perhaps not. But, as you are here, I wonder if you might not do your job and see if he has anything new to share with us."
Jackson prickles under the tone. "Sure, Reid. Simple as that."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning I need to get him to the deadroom where I can do a proper autopsy. Meaning I could've just as easily met you at the station in a couple of hours. Meaning I didn't need to be dragged from–" The litany is interrupted when he glances up to see that the inspector has a white-knuckled grip on one of the wooden chairs. "Reid?"
"Mmm?" The response is as distant as his gaze. Jackson frowns, gets to his feet.
"You feeling all right?" It's his first good look at the man since he got here, and he doesn't like what he sees. Pale yet sweating, eyes red-rimmed and shadowed. He touches the back of his wrist to Reid's forehead. "You're burning up."
"Irrelevant. We have work."
"Sit," Jackson says. Surprisingly, Reid obeys. "Your wife let you out of the house like this?"
"My wife… has other concerns." He stares through the body on the floor. It takes him a long moment to blink. "As do we." He makes no movement to get up.
"Symptoms, Reid."
"Irritation," he murmurs. "Impatience."
"Funny. Nausea? Cough? Dizziness?"
"Captain. It is a minor inconvience. Right now we have a murderer to catch; your talents would best be served toward that end."
"Lucky I can handle focusing on both. Why don't you let me and Drake finish up here, and you can head home?"
Reid shakes his head. "Impossible."
Jackson lights a cigarette. "Gonna take me at least a couple of hours for your autopsy. I can send someone with word when I get it done."
"No," Fingers rub at his forehead. "If this is indeed part of a pattern, we have seventy-two hours until the next victim is found. There is no time to waste."
"Ain't nobody suggesting we do so. Just a break, Reid."
Drake returns to the room; Reid pushes to his feet. "Unneccessary, Captain. Sergeant, report."
"A boot print in the outer room. Looks could be a match for the one found at the first scene."
"Show me." They exit the room together.
Jackson turns back to the body, resumes his superficial examination. Defensive wounds on the hands; a new development, and one that gives him hope he might find some evidence under the man's short fingernails. He's inspecting one of those hands in the light from the window when he hears the sounds of a scuffle in the next room.
"Reid? Drake?"
No answer. The room devoid of everything but the disturbed dust settling in striated sunbeams. The door is ajar, however; Jackson draws his pistol and pushes through. Out front he finds both of his colleagues. One empties his stomach onto the cobblestones beside the stairs.
"Christ, Reid. Go home."
"No." Bracing himself with an arm on the brick wall, he holds a handkerchief to his lips. "There's a killer stalking my streets."
Jackson shares a look with Drake. Shrugs. "Well I'm ready to get out of here whenever you are."
Pale as paper, Reid rests his head on his arm. "Very good," he exhales, as if his breakfast wasn't splattered on the ground in front of his feet. "We go to Lehman Street." He doesn't look particularly inclined to move.
"Sure, Reid. Whatever you say."
Two hours later, he's finished the autopsy; a scrub and a smoke and he's headed up the stairs to Reid's office. The blinds are closed, as is the door. With a perfunctory knock, the captain lets himself in. The inspector's head comes up from the desk so quickly that it rustles his papers.
"Jackson." It's rough, slowed. "You have news."
"Not really. Just that your killer might be sporting some fresh scratches courtesy of our man downstairs." He slumps into the chair on the other side of Reid's desk. Lights a new cigarette. "Not much use for finding him, but it should help if you do."
Reid groans, rubs his eyes. Two bright spots high on his cheekbones – the only color to his face – tell Jackson that he's still got the fever. "Nothing else?"
"Oily spot on his sleeve, near the elbow. I'm cooking it." Tugging at his tie, the inspector clears his throat. Swallows. "You gonna be sick again?" Jackson asks.
"No." As if he can simply will it to be so.
"If you don't plan on going home, why don't you make use of that cot you've got there." He nods toward the small bed. "I'll tell Artherton not to let anyone up."
Reid looks at the cot for so long that the captain thinks that he might give in. "No, I…"
"Any break in the case and I'll be right up here to get you," Jackson adds "You have my word."
A moment more and he nods heavily, a testament no doubt to what ails him over Jackson's persuasive skills. The American doesn't care.
He sees Reid settled. Closes the door.

VEILVIEW TOWER , Apt 02
Built somewhere in the late 1900s, Veilview boasts forty-eight apartments. It stands towering in one of Port Leiry's less favourable neighbourhoods and is supposedly updated once every five years. Ask a resident, they won't be able to recall the last time an inspector came by unless it was to collect on overdue rent. There's plenty of those. Overcrowded families find their way to Veilview, for its bare necessities and with being some of the cheapest rent in the area, it's always finding new renters. It is formidable for its two-bedroom spaces and most sought after open plan kitchen and living room (everyone knows, it's to save building another wall). It's crumbling by the day and the tenants find themselves paying for their own repairs when they can, because nobody on the emergency call line ever answers. No landlord can be reached and there's speculation about whoever owns Veilview these days and whether they're even still alive. Half the block has been without hot water, for at least two months and there have been more evictions in the last five years than there have been transmitted diseases travelling between apartments. (And, there's been a lot) The werewolf living on the tenth floor, who never considered the practicality of that has broken the only elevator to that floor, so it's an unspoken rule that nobody who doesn't live there, is to step foot up there (Not that you'd want to). All the unsuspecting, just talk about how it's terribly haunted and something ultimately tragic happened upstairs. Horror stories told to kids living it large in the corridors of Veilview because there's some creep who wanders outside at all hours of the day and nobody's sure if he even lives in the Tower. It's what started the open door policy that plenty of people reject for its utter stupidity.
ON THE FIRST FLOOR —
Apartment 02 is occupied by Reid Lawton, who's got a record for working the late shift, so the kids upstairs have been told to try to keep down their heavy-footed bullshit during the day, to allow him some rest. They don't know that he hardly does and his fake smile is simply to be painfully polite. The apartment is sparse; little furniture is to be found and the bare minimum of living expectation is found in each relevant room. The sofa is shabby and torn, the TV it's facing has four dead pixels — the kitchen is a wasted expense, considering he's only using the fridge for protein shakes. The most luxurious thing he owns is the blackout curtains that weigh heavy on every window of the apartment; never touched. As of a couple months ago, @anikabooker moved into the spare bedroom as a token of goodwill. The kids now talk nonsense about the pair of them, and one time a small child caught a glance of paint, and the woman's not heard the end of it since from the upstairs family. An artist, so cool. Yet, the apartment dwellers in 02 still don't know how to wash dishes, but at least there's liquor in the cupboards. And the music's always blasting.

Dear Ripper Street fans,
golly, do I have a treat for you?
Earlier this morning, as I was searching up our dear Edmund Reid online (MM, of course), I came across a really intriguing item on the real Edmund Reid.
Somebody was fortunate to find the original case that Inspector Reid carried with him during the Ripper murders, including: his warrant card, cuffs and whistle, pistol and pocket knife both engraved with his initials, letters and a photograph plus many more spectacular possessions.
Here are just a few of the photographs below, but I have attached the link so you can browse the whole article and delve a little deeper into the archives of Inspector Reid and his belongings...
Tagging a few accounts who might be interested (hope you don't mind):

FILM AND MOVIES
What Went Wrong With… SAS: Red Notice (2021)?
A review of SAS: Red Notice by What Went Wrong Or Right With...?
SAS: Red Notice is the latest Sky Original film to premiere on the satellite platform and unfortunately it’s another dead duck. Based on the book of the same name by Andy McNab, the plot is about a family-based, terrorist group known as the “Black Swans” who take over the Channel Tunnel. Interpol’s “Red Notice” (which alerts police worldwide to internationally wanted fugitives) gives this film its title (at least I think it does, although in S.A.S. terms it could mean a government sanctioned hit). Regardless of its meaning, the main part of the storyline (the hi-jacking) takes almost half-an-hour to get to, and once it does, it’s not exactly enthralling. The film begins with a preamble about “psychopaths” delivered by Tom Wilkinson’s character William Lewis who goes on to say “psychopaths who can learn to love are as rare as a black swan”. This I assume, refers to his baddie daughter Grace played by Ruby Rose or possibly the good guy Tom played by Sam Heughan. This kind of wannabe poignant dialogue is pointless to ponder over however, since this isn’t a character study of someone taught to kill and the parallels between the military and terrorists, or whether someone can switch off their violent tendencies and become compassionate. What this is, is a load of D-list actors saying “awight mate” a lot, posturing, chewing gum to look butch, and shooting guns, largely in the dark. Oh, and apparently, the elite of the elite in the S.A.S. are also bilingual botanists.
youtube
I’ll admit that I haven’t and probably never will read an Andy McNab novel, so I’m judging this adaptation against similar action movies. The plot to me, seems very late-80s or early-90s, very much like Ruby Rose’s bowl hair cut. SAS: Red Notice wishes it was in the same company as the original The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three, Die Hard, and every classic derivative action movie such as Speed, Under Siege, and Executive Decision but it’s instead more of a Chuck Norris or Michael Dudikoff-type flick.
Directed by Magnus Martens, the look and feel is more “TV” than cinema, and bad television at that. Magnus can’t seem to coax a believable performance out of anyone, and that’s alongside his appalling framing and camera movement, not to mention the seemingly non-existent art direction which leaves us with what looks like a home-made movie. The cast aren’t much better. Aside from the always decent Tom Wilkinson, the acting talent is also firmly in made-for-TV territory. We have Noel Clarke looking as convincing as Major Bisset as his Detective Inspector in Bulletproof, Anne Reid who played Jean in dinnerladies is still Jean from dinnerladies, and Andy Serkis plays Clements by overacting and probably wishing he was dressed in spandex and covered in white dots playing a different kind of gorilla.
We also have the aforementioned Sam Heughan as Tom or Thomas Buckingham III, a contrived yet somehow unbelievable rich, posh, heterosexual white male who lives in what looks like Wayne Manor with a butler not too dissimilar to Batman’s. Sam is a terrible, soap-opera-esque actor and as the lead, he’s the main reason why this film looks so cheap and tacky. Bad acting doesn’t end with Heughan however; we also have Ruby Rose playing his arch-nemesis Grace Lewis.
I suppose it’s progress to see a British Prime Minister played by a person of colour (Ray Panthaki) and someone from the LGBTQ community play the villain or antagonist in an action film but Panthaki is essentially a one-term baddun, and Rose is so lacking in charisma and acting skills that she won’t be spoken about in the same breath as Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber or even Eric Bogosian’s Travis Dane, which kind of defeats the purpose. Grace Lewis is instead, in the same league as Thomas Gabriel or Alik from the inferior Die Hard sequels. Rose can’t even act like she’s been shot in the neck or smile convincingly with her “this isn’t a disguise” wig on whilst trying to ward off authorities, let alone look menacing or have a knife-fight (or spoiler alert: die).
Whilst on the topic of Grace, her tactic of “kill the men and the boys, leave the women to spread the fear” conveniently leaves out the all-too-common rape and torture. Make no mistake, this is a sanitised view of conflict where mercenaries, contractors, war criminals, and terrorists are completely unconnected to any military unit. The film begins with contractors tasked to clear a village in Georgia in order to lay a pipe line, and this seems very War On Terror and Black Water-esque (especially the name “Black Swans”) but the way in which this story is told, it’s less Iraq and more Tie Rack with a bunch of suits trying to make some soulless and shallow money from militarism. There’s no real opinion on whether contractors should be used in war, it’s more “it’s okay until they leave witnesses” which is a dodgy message to convey. That being said, even our hero Thomas hears his butler recount a story of Buckingham’s forefathers chopping off a Maharaja’s finger during an Indian “uprising” in order to take their ring, which means even the protagonist has a lineage of wrongdoing but I’m sure viewers of this trash will glaze over this. In order to bolster the concept of “good guys can do no wrong”, the wedding vows at the end of the film are cringe-worthy and go to show how not only the writers, but everyone involved in making this crapfest, love the idea of the infallible war hero who cannot and should not be criticised (or prosecuted) because they do such a difficult job… “For better, for worse, in war [and] in peace, knowing that in war, your crazy brain is always right”. 🤮
Whether pro-war or anti-terror or just unadulterated militarism, all this criticism is of course pointless to mention, as nobody watching Red Notice is looking for deep, meaningful subtext and opinion-challenging concepts. The camouflage-covered cinematic cliches of “this isn’t what I signed-up for!” and “take the shot!” are both present which means this is a hackneyed, straight-to-streaming, non-action, action film. I wouldn’t have minded if this shite contained a plot about what great jobs snipers do or how difficult counter terrorism is, instead it’s another mindless, gung-ho release. And while I’m at it: who gives a toss about what happens to a fictitious government and this film’s uninteresting characters during the end credits? Please don’t make a sequel or try to start a franchise about the exploits of Tom effing Buckingham the pissing Third!
As a Sky Original, I have to mention the inclusion of Sky News presenters Gamal Fahnbulleh and Jayne Secker (and Ben bloody Shephard of ITV’s Good Morning Britain) doing some suspiciously, similar-to-real-life acting. Similar to Jeremy Thompson in Shaun Of The Dead, the news casters’ or broadcasters’ acting looks as convincing as the actual news and their “breaking news” bulletins are read with the same vigour. Ignoring the fact that Sky are both feeding and eating itself in the creation of this film, it’s always disconcerting to see real-life news presenters read scripts as well as they do on air, which goes to show they’re not journalists but actors who err… read scripts for a living. But I guess that’s for another article.
Back to the film, no matter its formulaic-ness, it would have been a much better idea for John McTiernan to direct SAS: Red Notice, for the sole purpose to try and get his post-prison reputation back to the level of his original Die Hard and Hunt For Red October heyday. I’d like to think that the maker of the original action masterpiece from which all others originate could surely make even the lamest of scripts buzz with exhilaration? Instead, thanks to a director who cannot direct, especially action scenes, I wasn’t thrilled or excited at all.
Apparently notices of the rouge variety are very popular right now because confusingly, there’s a Dwayne Johnson “Red Notice” movie in the works too, unconnected to the McNab book but an action flick nevertheless. One thing’s for certain: this version isn’t the one that stands out. Even with a large Andy McNab fanbase, this is gonna go

Fluffy February - @fluffyfebruary Day 13: Splurge Word count: 386 Fandom: Ripper Street Pairing: Homer Jackson/Edmund Reid AO3
“You can open your eyes now,” Reid whispered against Jackson’s ear, removing his hands from in front of Jackson's face.
He opened his eyes and laughed, turning to face Reid. “You did this for me?”
Reid nodded, looking half pleased, half embarrassed as his cheeks tinged pink, and Jackson couldn’t help but steal a kiss then and there, smiling against Reid’s lips.
“You’re amazing.”
Reid’s blush deepened at the compliment and he glanced away, wringing his hands. “Well, it’s not as though it was all my doing. I just—“
“Convinced Scotland Yard to fund the most intricate morgue in London?”
“Well,” Reid rubbed the back of his neck, still so adorably torn between flustered and pleased. “Yes.”
“For me?”
“My best surgeon deserves to have the best tools at his disposal.”
“That all I am to you?” Jackson asked, keeping his voice pointedly light and teasing in case Reid thought he was offended. “Just a surgeon?”
“No,” Reid said quickly, drawing Jackson into his arms to press a kiss to his forehead. “No, you are much, much more.”
Jackson hummed happily, leaning back to catch Reid’s eyes. “And you put your own money into this too?”
Reid nodded, eyes darting across Jackson’s face like he was worried of something, though for the life of him, Jackson couldn’t work out what.
“Stop worrying.”
“You truly like it?”
“Reid, it’s the best damn thing anyone’s ever done for me.”
Reid scoffed, as though the very idea was ridiculous, and Jackson reached up to cup Reid’s cheek tenderly.
“I mean it. No one’s ever cared for me the way you do. No one’s ever made the effort to let me know they actually give a damn if I stay or go. No one’s ever gone out of their way to make me happy, make me comfortable. You—“ he broke off, having to clear the lump of emotion rising in his throat before continuing. “You’re one of a kind, Inspector Reid.”
Reid’s lips twitched in a small smile, and in response, he simply kissed Jackson, soft and tender and so full of love that Jackson’s heart felt fit to burst with it.
“I pushed you away for far too long to not make my intentions clear now,” Reid said softly. “No more wasted time.”
“No more wasted time,” he agreed.

Happy 60th Birthday Scottish actress Blythe Duff, born 25th November 1962 in East Kilbride.
Her love of acting started with youth theatre. On leaving Hunter High School she joined The Company, a youth opportunities theatre company, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre in Washington Street and spent her summers with the Scottish Youth Theatre. She entered the profession in 1983 with her first job at the Young Playwrights Festival, I’m sure she would have known my old school friend, who won The Young Scottish Playwright of the year award back then, may he rest in peace.
Blythe worked in theatre for seven years, appearing with Scottish Opera in Street Scene as Shirley Kaplan in 1989, and at the Coliseum Theatre in London with the English National Opera. She also performed on the soundtrack album which was released on Decca Records in 1989. She was working for Scottish Opera when she landed the role of Jackie Reid in the sixth series of Taggart in 1990. Her first appearance was a community police officer in the second episode of the sixth series, “Death Comes Softly”, on 3rd December 1990, in which she is credited as playing WPC Reid. In the third episode, which first aired on 31st December 1990, she was credited as playing Jackie Reid and her character was seconded to CID as DC Reid. By series eight in 1993 her character was promoted to Detective Sergeant. She became the longest-serving member of the Taggart cast after James Macpherson left the show in 2002. The last Taggart was shown in 2011, seeing Jackie Reid finally reach Detective Inspector.
Apart from Taggart, and a couple of short films Blythe has only really appeared as herself, voice overs and quiz shows etc as well as crime shows and documentaries. She has however performed on stage regularly and was a double winner, in 2013 and 2014, of the Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland, for her role as Fay Black in Iron, Rona Munro’s psychological drama set within a women’s prison.
Duff is married to former police officer Tom Forrest and became stepmother to his two daughters Sarah and Katie. She was made a patron of Scottish Youth Theatre in the year 2000. Blythe was Chieftain of Bute Highland Games in 2009 and Chieftain of the Cowal Games in 2011.
She was given an Honorary Doctorate in June 2011 from Glasgow Caledonian University for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts.
In 2020 Duff and singer Cameron Barnes teamed up to re-imagine the classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York to raise funds for freelance creatives and their families.
Blythe said about growing up in Calderwood, East Kilbride, surrounded by references to Shakespeare due to the new town’s habit of clustering local street names around a certain theme. “The streets all had brilliant names” she says. “You live next to Edmond Kean and Hamlet and MacBeth, all these theatre references on street signs. I wonder whether or not that was soaking into my subconscious from an early age. I only thought about that when I was older but I like the idea.”
Duff has recently joined Joinsed the cast of the World Premiere of New Musical Wild Rose, she recently commented, “I really can’t wait to start rehearsals for Nicole Taylor’s brilliant Wild Rose. The film really landed with so many people and I have a feeling the musical will live up to all expectations. It was late 80s when I last played on the Lyceum stage so I can’t wait to be in that beautiful theatre again.
The production begins its life in Scotland where the piece is set, opening The Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh in 2025 as part of the company’s Spring season. Based on the excellent, critically acclaimed award-winning film of the same name written by Taylor, directed by Tom Harper and produced by Faye Ward (Fable Pictures), the production opens on 14th March, with previews from 6 March, and runs until 5th April.
