Finding a ride in the morning from the end to the start was challenging. After walking a bit then through Union Station before the start I had over 2,000 steps. I am tired but today was part nostalgia for having walked and biked many of these stretches across Los Angeles and seeing with new eyes all that’s beautiful about life.

Inman 300, Segment B.2, pt. 2  This section of LA from Highland Park to Garvanza to Eagle Rock to the north are separated from the Annandale neighborhood in Pasadena by a hill to the east and the contrasts between them is stunning. Would have loved this whole walk at one stretch- the split meant I could really take my time and prepare for the HOT ride home (105).

Can’t express the gratitude or appreciation in my heart at this time- not only for the opportunity to participate in and complete this walk, but to all the hours that so many individuals put into researching and documenting this journey that is the Inman 300.

This last segment of the Inman 300 felt so far away on June 4. Step by step, mile by mile, segment by segment passed like seconds in a minute because the pace of the street gives the mind more to digest than any other mode of transport. Started at the same time as the other segments and ended in the waters of the Pacific feeling the joy and accomplishment that is experienced in waters as cold. This urban adventure as been a blessing and a savior.

The fog rolled over this last stretch of PV and the last stairs were not only the longest but the walk to the end all uphill. I was tired. For sure.

From the beaches of Torrance to the trails and stairs of Palos Verdes. Definitely hitting this stretch again.

Back in the day my uncle used to say, “I love planes” to mock my love affair with planes. This final stretch through Culver City and Westchester to El Segundo on Aviation Blvd (not a pleasing stretch) held more nostalgia from childhood and less fascination of space. All in all, a great day. And I was able to have some Shake Shack with my mom afterwards. The best bonus!

Southern Santa Monica to Venice to Mar Vista to Palms. Palms Blvd had these amazing art characters on street poles and the murals speak to a community that is always active and ready to pull together for others.

All Santa Monica. All morning. The starting 12 stairs in Rustic Canyon are unique and intriguing then flow to the Pacific for stairs on the bluffs to the south. AND I walked the Rustic stretch with high school friend Eric who also drove me to the start! Props for friends stepping up and joining the adventure.

What I loved was seeing some communities- WeHo, West Side, Brentwood, Palisades. The struggle was one busy street after another all the way to the end. Santa Monica and Sunset took up a lot of real estate with some  sections even along PCH fully exposed to cars screaming by. The blessing? Being near the beach for the breezes and views.

This was a LONG day and distance seemed to be the motivation. Most of these walks is within a 15 drive from start to end. Today’s uber was over 30 minutes and the driver told me about a 4 day walking event in Holland that happens in late July so one day... The Riviera Country Club holds a spacial place in my heart. My cousin Danny loves golf and when the LA Open was held here we often came and followed/met many pros over the years in the mid-90′s. John Daly stands out. That dude could drive a golf ball. And Ben Crenshaw was coming out of the clubhouse as we were passing by so Danny was able to meet him and get an autograph I think.

Los Angeles is ageless. Los Angeles is sprawling. Los Angeles is connected. There’s a history, a dreaming of brighter futures, a crushing of hope and a look beyond that glimmers in the waning light. I love seeing downtown from its many sides and the observatory and the Hollywood sign and the cranes that lead from Long Beach to the Pacific and infinity. Felt some mist. Found some parks. Learned some rhythms of this city in this stretch.

The Saroyan Steps just off Beachwood are a dream come true. Sculpture gardens are a bonus.

Didn’t know quite what to expect from this stretch. Most of the first 5 miles I was very familiar with and the rest was the best mystery. Still haven’t processed most of these walks so I’ll leave it at that for now.

It’s tiring. It’s long. And it’s so worth it. The uber driver back to the car was like Vikram from The Office... you can work to make money, but if you overwork you can’t get back your health. He also said something about drinking beer while walking etc but I didn’t catch onto that one.
