Indie TMNT Comic Dub - Episode 7

EPISODE 7 of Indie TMNT Comic Dub is UP!!!!

A little late is better than never. ;) I loved making this episode. Not only because it felt amazing to be able to work again after getting sick, but also how joyful and wholesome this one is. :) Plus KLUNK. No other explanation needed. ;) 

And we have FINALLY SEEN SHREDDER NOW. HECK TO THE YES. It was SO MUCH FUN figuring out his light motifs (character themes and sounds), that I will be using later in the series the next time he returns. :) Can’t wait!

All credit for the art and comic goes to @indieyuugure, while I edited and lent my voice for the dialogue. Epidemic Sound covered the music and sound effects. :)

So, I was re-reading some of @indieyuugure comics (which they're awesome, go check it out)

I was re-reading the Indie tmnt, and I decided to design Seina in the Indie tmnt, and I have fun making the design! ^^

Btw, I know that a lot of you don't know that Seina has a cat, that's because I don't draw animals very often 😅 so I'm sorry if the cat I draw looks kinda weird, *AhEm-* Anyways, l'll give Haru story in just a bit-

Now, onto Haru story-

Haru used to be a stray kitty in Japan until Seina found her and took her in when Seina was four years old and named her Haru. (which means spring in Japan, since Seina favorite season is spring)

I find it a little fascinating how, despite debuting a few years apart and having a decent amount in common, Transformers and Ninja Turtles got defined by entirely separate musical moments.

Transformers music got defined by mid-80s pump-up soundtrack rock because of You Got The Touch, and while obviously that's fluctuated a bit over the years, the Linkin Park songs, etc. we still kind of think of it in terms of hair metal stuff.

TMNT, meanwhile, launched just late enough that hip-hop/rap defined it. There are multiple factors at play- MC Hammer on the first film's soundtrack and then Ninja Rap in SOTO, the fact that TMNT was 'lower to the ground'/more urbane than TF, New York being one of hip-hop's birthplaces.

This isn't ironclad. 07 had a seriously indie rock heavy soundtrack, Rise of the Beasts uses Mamma Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J basically perfectly in my eyes, Shredder's Revenge has "Panic In The Sky" as basically the TMNT version of You Got The Touch and the reworking of the opening theme, even if the other three vocal numbers are rap ones (serious get getting two Wu-Tang Clan members). It's just interesting to think about is all.

That is an interesting point, I think it speaks to the counter culture nature to the tmnt as they’re always meant to parody what’s popular at the time. The hip hop angle speaks to their roots as an indie underground comic, along with the nature of them literally underground as characters. Then transformers speak to what’s popular and mainstream, due to them being a commercial for (what are at their core) war machines. Fascinating stuff indeed.

The pre-cursor to Raph meeting Mrs. Morrison (I have more sketches of it but most of them are just outlines of text)

I decided to add a Battle Nexus arc in which Renet teleports them to a dimension, but then the Dimension Scepter dies so they’re stuck there for who knows how long. The turtles get arrested, but then a very professional woman interested in making dealy-doos (that she will most likely change the terms of at the last second) pays them out on the condition that they fight in her Battle Nexus Arena. The boys meet a whole bunch of people from other dimensions(Usagi) and even some from their own(Traximus). The specific picture I gave is designs for Usagi. Leo has not had enough time to recover from his fight with Shredder mentally and, during is fight with Usagi, breaks down in an episode and goes psycho.

The Banned for Life posters on the bulletin boards at April’s school. The boys will live on through that school’s history as those random Japanese boys straight out of a J-pop band that wreaked havoc on the school for all of 20 minutes then disappeared, never to be seen again.

It still feels a bit crazy unfair that so far it's only really been su and ok ko (kinda adventure time too ig but those r old now) that've had a full-made game of the modern cartoons we've had these years, and even then those are like 6 years old now (Not including older ips like SpongeBob and tmnt who've both got banger games in form of the cosmic shake and shredders revenge)

even movie-tie-in games aren't a thing anymore like the pacific rim game. Even rick and morty, hella popular, doesn't have a console game that's good. We've gotten short minigame-like stuff for amphib and maomao and etc on mobile stuff but not even small budget mid games on switch which has a bazillion indie games and licensed games.

Like sure licensed stuff sucks sometimes but honestly I'd take a low-poly rpg toh game or a pixelized platformer cotc game, both with bad sound design and controls, anyday of the week. Like it IS fun to play guilty pleasures and that's why games bop, for the fun!!! Even the su and ok ko games had p bad qualities (ESPECIALLY with glitches, backtracking and grinding for 100%) but damn is it fun to play as our fav characters without needing to mod an already existing game.

Yea unless you're an established IP with huge studio money behind it the dime-a-dozen licensed games are a thing of the past, and even then that's not enough. With the rise of stuff like the App Store companies figured out it's a million times cheaper to put a cheap puzzle bobble/candy crush clone with their new IP slapped on top of it instead of making a tie-in game like they'd do in the past.

Tangentially related to this topic but I remember when Inside Out came out I was obsessed with it and was really disappointed there wasn't a licensed game for it (I was maybe 14 at the time) but then I found a game for it in the App Store and I was like "oh my god, an inside out game! I found it!!!" and then I opened it. Puzzle Bobble clone. Huge disappointment!

BAR’s PS5 Screenshots 9-17-2023: since I have purchase-downloaded both Monster Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Kamiko for my PS5 console, as well as having finally purchase-downloaded both Lunistice for my Switch Console and the Shellshock Dimension DLC for my TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge game on my Switch Console too of course, I kinda thought maybe it was time I got to share some of what PS5 games I’ve been playing recently that I’m now catching up on, just about a week or two ago, I recently beat the FF1 Prequel: Stranger of Paradise, where I got to see how Jack Garland became the infamous 1st boss-dark knight villain in Final Fantasy 1 that most Final Fantasy Fans have come to love and hate for so many generations now, and I’ve just got back into playing where I left off with Oddworld Soulstorm, I couldn’t really think of screenshooting any gameplay pics of what I was doing with Abe since Oddworld Soulstorm doesn’t really have a photo mode to capture that kind of moment anyway, I decided to do some press hold-screenshots of one of these beautifully in game-animated cutscenes that already make this new cast redesign and animation style of Oddworld Characters in Soulstorm so damn Pixar like quality that this new oddworld sequel remake of Abe’s Exodus has become today, that I’m honestly surprised at how much more fleshed the characters and story driven cutscenes for this Abe’s Exodus reimagining has become today, and seeing Abe become more emotional for some emotionally dark moments really do make this oddworld game so interesting to me these days, and I really do hope that Lorne Lanning will make a Munch’s Oddysee reimagining to take place right we’re the Soulstorm canon ending had left off, like what if Munch got involved with helping Abe find his estranged mother as Abe will help munch rescue a whole canned Gabbiar of 150 baby Gabbits in such a reimagining too I wonder? Oh and as for Kamiko, that game is surprisingly the most fun Classic Zelda inspired indie game I’ve ever started on my PS5 too, and I hope you folks like these two games I’m currently playing on PS5 of course.
