A bright and sunny weather was perfect for a bike ride in Han River, that’s what you thought anyway. You were stuck in the cafe you work for which was beside the university you’re studying in. It was a weekend and instead of spending time with your friends, you chose to work since you were behind on paying the remaining amount of your tuition fee.

Your eyes averted to the counter as you heard the bell from the door ring indicating that there are new customers. “Welcome to Café Sakura! What can I get for you today?” You looked up to see Lee Taeyong, the student council president and the guy you’ve been crushing on since orientation. “Oh, y/n. I didn’t know you worked here.” He approached the counter with his big smile.

He knows your name? Well, duh of course he does. He’s the student council president! “Ah, yes.” You shyly smiled back. “I’ll have a cappuccino in a mug please.” You punched in the keys of the monitor and told him the price. He gave a bill higher than the amount and you gave the change along with buzzer which he took and went away to sit by the window.

Since business was slow at this time, you decided to make his drink. You loved making coffee especially when customers asks for their drinks to be placed in a mug. After mixing everything together to make the almost perfect cappuccino, you decorated the foam with cherry blossoms that you practiced so hard to make.

Instead of calling his buzzer, you brought the drink to him. “Oh, I could’ve picked it up.” He handed the buzzer back to you. “No worries, business is slow anyway.” You clutched the buzzer on your hand. “Enjoy your drink!” You turned around and was about to head back to the cashier when he called your name. “Since business is slow, do you..want to keep me company?”

Taeyong spent his mornings and afternoons dropping by at the cafe, ordering almost the same thing every time and sat in the same seat. One morning, he came to the café again feeling excited but when he saw someone else manning the counter his excitement fell. Not until you tapped his shoulder. “Care to keep me company during my day off?” You smiled.

Riding on the back of a motorcycle was terrifying. Tom took turns so sharply you felt like you could brush the ground with your fingertips if you were able to let go of the grip you had on his waist. You weren’t sure if this was how everyone rode or just Tom, but either way it was not something you wanted to experience any time soon.  

When he parked the bike in front of a gate at what looked like an old warehouse, you released your grip and sat shaking on the bike. The silence now that the bike was off was deafening and you didn’t hear Mads come up until he took the helmet off and helped you off the bike. Your legs were weak and you had trouble getting your footing so he held you with an arm around your waist and whispered comfortingly in your ear.  

“It’s okay Dolly, I’m right here with you. I won’t leave you, okay?”

“What’s going to happen, Mads? Who is here?” He took your hand in his as Tom rang the buzzer to have the gate opened. “Mads...” he put his finger to his lips and then kissed you softly as the gate ground open. You took a steadying breath and followed as he tugged you inside.  

Your eyes were wide as you walked into the yard outside the warehouse. It looked more like an auto shop when you got closer, but that didn’t help to calm your nerves. There were men standing outside smoking and others were milling around and drinking just inside the doorway of the building. When the gate clanged closed and Tom yelled out to them, everyone looked up and all eyes were on you. You stepped partially behind Mads to shield yourself from their hungry gazes. Suddenly your dress was much too short and low cut and your shoes too tall. Mads kept squeezing your hand comfortingly but you knew he couldn’t let his guard down too much around all of them.  

“Hi, Mads!” One of the men near the door called and waved. Mads nodded his head and tried to keep heading inside but the man grabbed his arm. “No way, you told us you were busy fixing some fucking lights and then you show up with a piece of ass. You gonna introduce us?” Mads yanked his arm away and tried to laugh it off but you could see the tension around his mouth and eyes. “What’s up, honey? I’m Henrik, come over and have a smoke with us, hmm?”  

Mads put an arm around your shoulders and turned you to guide you inside calling over his shoulder to the men, but you were so overwhelmed you didn’t hear what he said.  

“Little doll,” he whispered in your ear, “We are going to go sit over there by that bar and we are going to have a couple of drinks and then I’m going to take you back to your place and we’re going to stay there all night. I’m going to make this up to you, okay?” You looked at him with wide eyes and nodded. He whispered your name softly against your hair and you jerked back to look at him. He usually only used your name sarcastically, still preferring some variation of Doll when he was talking to you. His eyes were serious and you nodded again.

“Okay, Mads. A couple of drinks and we’ll go home.” His turn to nod and you smiled slightly.  

“Hey Sugar,” You heard Tom’s voice and tensed. “Come drink with us, hmm? We don’t have any of that wine you had before, but I bet I could find something girly enough for ya.” He gave you a shit eating grin and patted a chair next to him.  

Mads walked over and sat in the seat Tom indicated. It looked like a fight might start, but Mads lowered his head slightly and took your hand pulling you into his lap. You choked down a squeak of surprise and put an arm around his neck. He had you sideways, facing Tom, with a strong arm around your waist and big hand splayed across your hip possessively. You heard someone clear their throat to break the tense silence and glanced to the side to see CC standing and walking to the bar.  

“Whiskey?” He called over his shoulder and Mads grunted in agreement. Whiskey sounded like the worst and best idea for the situation at hand. You’d loosen up, but the risk was that you’d go too far and embarrass either yourself or your boyfriend in front of some very dangerous men.  

CC handed the bottle to you first. No tumbler or shot glass came with it, so you took a deep breath and downed a mouthful. Mads rubbed your hip with his thumb as you swallowed hard before taking the bottle himself and taking a swig. He held it in his mouth and tapped your lips with his free hand. When you didn’t immediately move, he put his hand behind your head and pulled your mouth to his, feeding the whiskey to you one push of his tongue at a time.  

A wolf whistle made you pull back but Mads’ grip on you kept you from climbing off his lap and running away. What were you doing?! There was a roomful of criminals and you just let yourself get lost in your boyfriend. When you looked back at him, Mads winked and leaned into your ear.

“Just sit tight, doll. Play along, don’t be scared, they’ll let us go soon okay?” He nibbled your neck and kissed behind your ear to sell the bit to the others. You let out a forced giggle and he gave you the first genuine smile since arriving at the clubhouse.  

“Mads, come on man, you should share. We’ve all been lonely as fuck over here doing odd jobs and shit,” one of the men across the circle slurred and you saw CC hit him upside the head. He still leered at you, though, and you pressed further into Mads and his grip on you. Tom kept his eyes locked on yours. While the others were staring at your legs or your breasts, Tom looked at your eyes. Even as he drank he continued to watch you with a clear gaze. Even CC started to slur slightly and lean heavily against the wall behind him, but never Tom.  

“Hey doll,” Mads said in your ear and you startled out of your studying of Tom. Maybe you were drunker than you thought without meaning to be. You leaned your head on Mads’ shoulder and looked up into his green eyes. They were clear, just like Tom’s. Had he been drinking at all? Were you the only one who was drunk? You started to panic and tried to move out of Mads’ lap thinking just going to the bathroom would be enough to get your mind clear.  

“Hey, calm down it’s okay,” he whispered and you turned glazed eyes to him again. “Do you need to go to the bathroom? Or we can go smoke a cigarette outside?” You looked toward the open door with the fresh air but a few of the Wolves, and then toward the hallway he indicated that looked dark and secluded leading to a private, albeit probably disgusting, bathroom.  

“Ummm bathroom, please.” You focused on keeping your voice clear, knowing Tom was watching and listening. You couldn’t show any more signs of weakness. Mads nodded and helped you off his lap, standing quickly behind you to pull you to his side and walk with you through the group and down the hallway. You were proud of yourself for only stumbling once in your heels that were becoming increasingly more uncomfortable.  

“Right in here, little doll,” Mads pushed a door halfway down the hall open and you stepped into a surprisingly clean bathroom. There was even a stall in addition to the urinal on the wall. The mirror was cracked and coated with grime, but the floors seemed decent and there was soap and paper towels. Mads must have seen the surprise on your face because he chuckled. “It’s my job to keep it ‘presentable’.” You could almost see the air quotes he used at the word. “It’s for in case we have the ladies come through. Tom won’t let his girl piss in a shithole he says, so I keep it ready and stocked just in case. I wouldn’t bring you in here if it was bad, you know that.” He kissed the top of your head and guided you to the stall.  

“I don’t actually have to go, I just needed some... air?” It seemed silly now that you’d chosen against going outside.  

“I get it, it’s okay. We’re just going to stay a little longer and then we will go. No more drinking, though, okay? Act like you are drunker than you are and they will tease and be assholes but they won’t make you drink or really bother you. I won’t let anything happen tonight, dolly.” He wrapped his arms around your shoulders and pulled you close. With your heels on you reached his shoulder, instead of middle of the chest like normal. You rested your cheek against him and let him take most of your weight like it was nothing. Your nerves were still going and you kept thinking about the calculating look on Tom’s face, but you were getting very tired as well.  

“Mads I’m really ready to go. I don’t like it here.” Your voice sounded whiny but you knew you were drunk and that he’d understand. You looked at him with your glassy eyes and put as much pleading into them as you could. He chuckled a bit and squeezed you before taking a step back and holding your hand in his.  

“Okay, doll, let’s go.” With your hand in his, he led you back down the hallway and into the open room where everyone was talking loudly and two of the men looked like they were going to come to blows. Mads skirted around them and walked you to the open doorway. “Stay here,” he said softly, but firmly. “I’m going to get our coats and let them know we’re leaving and we’ll be out of here, okay?” You nodded and glanced around seeing the men eyeing you and he talking. “Stay right here.” He kissed you fiercely and walked back over to the table where your coats had been set when you first came in.

“He really shouldn’t leave you alone even for a minute, honey,” you heard a rough voice behind you and tensed but did not turn. A dirty hand came up and rested on the doorframe right by your head. You did turn then and saw the man from earlier. Haldan? Henri? Damnit why did you drink that much? H- reached down and took your shoulder, turning you toward him and brushing that same hand over your curls, tugging one like Tom had done. You tried to pull away but the hand that had been on the doorframe was now on your waist and he was pulling you flush against him. “Mads is a puppy, honey, you need a fucking man. Don’t you want to see what a real Wolf is like?” He snarled at you and you could smell the booze and cigarettes on his breath making your stomach turn. Before you could say anything, H- was ripped away from you and you nearly fell when his grip pulled from your waist.  

“Henrick,” you’d never heard Mads’ voice so deep and scary. “Get the fuck away from my girl. You don’t touch her, you hear me?” He got in Henrick’s face and was poking at his chest with one finger, balling his other fist at his side.  

“What are you going to do about it, puppy boy? You can’t do shit against me!” Henrick pulled back and looked like he was going to swing, but Mads squared off at the same moment and was clearly more sober. He dodged the halfhearted right hook and decked Henrick in the nose before kicking him the stomach and sending him flying backwards. The commotion had drawn the attention of the rest of the Wolves and they were all yelling and coming over to see what was happening. You stood huddled against the doorframe too afraid to move. You didn’t know if anyone was outside still so you didn’t want to try and go to the car, but you also did not want to be stuck here any longer than you had to! As Mads reared back to launch another attack on Henrick who had stumbled but not fallen, CC came up and grabbed onto Mads’ elbow.  

“Let it go, kid.” He said softly but commandingly. “Take your girl and get her home. She needs to get to bed.” He glanced up and you and so did Mads. His bun had come loose and there were strands of hair falling down and into his eyes. He was seething and trying to yank out of CC’s grip in order to go back and finish beating the other man. You were so scared, but in that moment, staring into the furious eyes of your lover you felt something else come over you. This was a side of him you had only heard him allude to; starting fights during football matches in order to gain the upper hand of a rival gang for instance. You had never seen it in your face, though, and you couldn’t help but take notice of the tingling low in your stomach and the way your knees went weak that had nothing to do with the drink.  

“Mads?” You called softly and he turned back to you. He was still breathing heavily and his fist was clenched but his face softened almost instantly. Then he cocked his head to the side slightly and regarded you with confusion for a moment. Drunk and full of adrenaline as you now were, you felt less embarrassed to take one hand and run it along the neckline of your dress seductively. “Can we just go home?” Your voice was girlier and pitched a little higher and the confusion melted away to a smirk. Mads nodded and patted CC on the shoulder before coming over and swinging you up in his arms. He gave you a passionate kiss and headed toward the car. You put your head on his shoulder and looked up at him with lusty eyes. Everything you had planned for when you got back to your apartment flew out of your mind and you just imagined those strong and capable hands working you over like they had Harald or whoever back there.
