How Vitamin D and Omega-3 Levels Impact Sleep Quality
Tumblr media
Sleep is essential for overall health, impacting everything from mental clarity to immune function. But achieving quality sleep can be elusive for many, with numerous factors affecting our ability to get restorative rest. Emerging research highlights the roles that specific nutrients, particularly omega-3 fatty acids, play in sleep quality. Here’s a look at how these nutrients influence sleep and why maintaining adequate levels could make a significant difference in your nightly rest.
Understanding Vitamin D’s Role in Sleep
It is also called the "sunshine vitamin" and supports bone health. However, researchers have found that it may also play a significant role in regulating sleep. Receptors are present in areas of the brain involved in sleep regulation, and it is thought that it helps to manage sleep duration and quality through its effect on these brain areas.
Studies between vitamin D and sleep tell us that sleep influences the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles. Melatonin production usually rises in the evening to help us fall asleep and decreases in the morning, signaling wakefulness.
The Influence of Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Sleep
Omega-3 fatty acids, primarily found in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, are essential fats that our bodies cannot produce independently. Known for supporting heart and brain health, omega-3s are also emerging as important contributors to sleep quality. Two omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), have been associated with sleep benefits.
One of the ways omega-3s support sleep is by enhancing the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate sleep. Serotonin is a precursor to melatonin, meaning that having higher levels of serotonin can lead to improved melatonin production, supporting the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. Low levels of omega-3 fatty acids have been linked to decreased levels of serotonin, which can lead to disruptions in sleep patterns and may contribute to mood issues like anxiety and depression, which are also linked to poor sleep.
In a study conducted by Indian Integrated Medicine involving children, those who were supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids experienced longer and more restful sleep compared to those who didn’t. Similarly, a study on adults found that higher omega-3 levels were associated with improved sleep efficiency and reduced wakefulness during the night. These findings suggest that omega-3s can help regulate sleep patterns and improve overall sleep quality.
Optimizing Vitamin D and Omega-3 Intake for Better Sleep
If you’re experiencing poor sleep, it may be beneficial to consider whether you’re getting enough omega-3s. Here are a few ways to optimize your intake of these nutrients:
1. Get Sun Exposure
One of the best natural sources is sunlight. Spending 15-20 minutes outdoors in the sun each day can help your body produce. If this isn’t possible due to climate or lifestyle factors, a supplement may be necessary, especially during the winter months.
2. Consider Dietary Sources and Supplements
Studies conducted between vitamin D and sleep reveal that foods like fortified dairy products, egg yolks, and fatty fish are excellent sources. However, it can be challenging to obtain enough from food alone, so supplements are often recommended.
Additional Lifestyle Tips for Better Sleep
In addition to optimizing nutrient levels, practicing good sleep hygiene can further enhance your sleep quality. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule, create a comfortable and dark sleep environment, and limit screen time before bed. Regular exercise and mindfulness practices, like meditation, can also help calm the mind and prepare your body for rest.
Final Thoughts
While sleep quality can be influenced by many factors, there is several evidence showing that omega-3 fatty acids play crucial roles. By ensuring adequate levels of these nutrients, you may be able to enhance your sleep quality, enjoy more restful nights, and experience the numerous health benefits that come with restorative sleep. As always, consult a healthcare professional like Indian Integrated Medicine before beginning any new supplement regimen, particularly if you have underlying health conditions or take medications that could interact with these nutrients.

KJ Charles has breathtaking range. And it's all so organically diverse and vivid and excellently paced and clever.
Doomsday books -- Smugglers of Romney Marsh in 1810–20s in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars.
Society of Gentlemen -- Clash between the royalist establishment and radical republicans in the last years of Regency.
Sins of the Cities -- Small businesses and trade of the Industrial Revolution in London's immigrant quarter (taxidermy of all things!), Victorian spiritualists and musical hall artists in the 1870s.
Lillywhite Boys -- London criminal underworld, bluestocking feminists, private detectives, colonial gem trade, the rise of industrialists in the 1890s, and pre-Victorian folk Christmas traditions.
Charm of Magpies -- Shanghai traders and Chinese immigrant communities of London in the late 1800s.
England World -- Nascent British intelligence agencies and new technology in the shadow of the Boer War in the 1890s + integration of Indian nobles from its last kingdoms with elite British society + classism and xenophobia in British antisemitism
Will Darling Adventures -- The reverberating social, political and economic changes from the aftermath of WWI and further development of intelligence organisations during the 1920s.
Just finished Band Sinister, which touched on Hellfire Clubs, the emergence of new medicine, atheism, and challenge Creationism from the fields of natural science, and Black British life before abolition. Currently reading Unfit to Print, which seems to be about London's underground pornography trade with character focus on the shared plight of Black and Indian immigrants from the colonies and their mixed race offspring. Charles's body of work really brings home that the 19th century was a full hundred years long and the distinct character of every decade. And that the real and authentic history of Britain had people of every race, religion, colour, disability, neurodiversity, gender and sexuality who have been deliberately erased by the same power structures that kept them disenfranchised and ghettoed back then.

Science and the Rainbow Body
We have looked at some aspects of what modern biophysics, biophotonics, phonics (sound), and neurology can bring to our understanding of the Light Body. And the anatomical discovery of the microscopic primo vascular system and fascial tissue give us new perspectives on tsas, nadis, meridians, and the body’s energy channels in general. But at some point science is left in the dust. It cannot keep up with ancient esoteric knowledge, cooked for millennia in the crucible of direct inner experience, not intellectual theories. This particularly refers to the science of the Five Elements, and the loss and distortion of this knowledge in Western intellectual culture, medicine, and religion.
That massive misstep began long ago. While ancient Greece is taken to be the fount of our Western scientific tradition, it is also where materialism took hold fiercely, relegating scientists to the study of physical objects, functions, and ever smaller components. It’s only now, thousands of years later, that physics—and a good dose of Eastern spirituality—promise a revived view of a living, conscious universe. In nature, and in the realm of biology, it is grids of information-energy that rule supreme. Aristotle, Hippocrates, and Galen could not abide the idea of five intangible formative forces and downgraded the elements into gloppy fluids sloshing about in the spaces of the body. To be fair, this was in response to the Egyptian and Babylonian perspective, held for thousands of years, of the elements as deities. Empedocles famously called these deities “roots,” turning them into a proprietary system and establishing his place in history. But the notion of a space element, already an integral part of Pythagorean knowledge adopted from Egypt and Babylon a century before, was out in the cold. This left us with the fantasy of hydraulic fluids running the body (the humoral theory), which would pervade European and Middle Eastern thought right into the modern era—tainting astrology, alchemy, and reflected in the truncated four-part psychology of Jung, Keirsey, and Myers-Briggs. But while this artifact of materialistic thinking affected a hundred generations of beings, the true knowledge of elemental forces has remained intact, preserved in Tibetan Buddhism, Indian Shaivism, Sufic healing, and the Western gnostic lineages. That is a good thing, since they play a central role in the development of the Rainbow or Light Body. That is as it should be, since it is not myth that we are composed, mind and body, of five dynamic patterns of meaning and manifestation.
In the process of creation, of manifestation, the higher is separated from the lower: gravity and levity, roots and fruits, sky and earth. Now, we reverse the process, climbing back toward union. But a simple reversion to the primordial state, to a pure unity of warm consciousness incomprehensible to our dull intellect would miss the point. Our journey as an embodied five-elemental being is not just a movement within an illusion of time and space where “nothing actually happens.” The return is everything, and in many ways the fulfillment of creation itself. It is the ouroboros, the snake that devours its own tail, the completion of the circle, which is itself empty and contains everything.
This elemental transformation process is commonly portrayed in Tibetan thangkas and repeated in almost every ritual. Within a human skull cup we visualize five kinds of meat (forbidden foods, according to Brahmanical literature) and five kinds of bodily fluids. Their specific names are not important for this discussion, but they represent the Five Elements in their female and male aspects. This mishmash is the sum of our physical existence. Here is biology; here is embodiment; here is incarnation—being in the flesh. But here is the possibility of the birth of a new, non-material form as a vehicle for a renewed consciousness. These elements will be cooked and transformed into wisdom nectar, due to the magical addition of Om Ah Hung. In Tibetan, these three syllables represent form, energy, and consciousness, although I prefer G. I. Gurdjieff’s more colorful nomenclature of “Holy Denying, Holy Affirming, and Holy Reconciling.”
The reason for this transformative possibility in the first place is that the Five Elements exist within us in a multi-layered context. We contain the five material elements, but also the five original, pure Wisdom Elements, the cosmic spark as it were. The Hindu tradition describes five koshas or levels of existence, from gross to subtle, from bioenergetic to pure consciousness. The Buddhist world speaks of three bodies or kaya in a similar spectrum. The Kabbalah describes five worlds in a descending chain of existence. Whether we count in threes, fives, or beyond, the problem remains—how to unite the lower and the higher to create something altogether new. Traditionally, we perceive each of the Vajrayana chakras as the center of gravity of one of the elements—but containing an inner structure of five subelements. And so we have elements within elements waiting to be impregnated with divine radiance and to ascend to their true potential.
Cooking the elements
Down in the depths of our viscera, in the dark recess of the pelvic container, is a secret bindu, an energetic sphere, a “bubble” of immense import. The yogin or yogini will have long prepared, through visualization, mantra recitation, focused meditation, and the gathering of blessings, creative forces, and the richness of material, planetary, biological, and spiritual energies. Prolonged purifications have taken place, readying for this moment. Now, in this most secret of places, the alchemical process, the gestation of a new Light Body begins. Conception took place long ago, in different forms of initiations, meetings with the guru, or even a direct download from transcendent sources. Now the quickening begins, the “cooking” process. As in our visualized skull cup of animals and fluids, we ignite the fire in the belly and fan it with the reversed turbulence of our “downward descending wind.” The digestive and liver fire is harnessed, and winds are drawn down and held in the vase of the belly. The anus and lower doors are drawn up and sealed. As the sub-navel furnace blazes, the Earth mandala in the belly dissolves and is drawn upward by a natural osmosis, the force of levity, of ionic attraction, in the oldest dance in the universe.
Spiral dynamics
In this “mating” process, the flame rises up to melt the Wisdom Elements dwelling in the head. This inner heat or tummo process involves spiral energies. The heavenly father energies move clockwise, always. The earthly mother energies move in an anti-clockwise spiral, always. This is clearly seen in the way that a mantra circles within the heart, depending on whether one is self-visualized as a male or female yidam or deity form. The male mantra circles to the right and the female mantra always circles to the left (from the perspective of your own body’s orientation). Spiraling down, the flow moves through the chakras producing the “four joys.” But it spirally ascends to the head again, thrusting through the chakras with another more intense effulgence of innate bliss and the experience of pure awareness (or emptiness, as it is misleadingly called).
By this process, each element in its lower or biological state is transformed, united with and blended with its wisdom form. But what is very surprising here is that, in the Vajrayana tradition, the story somehow ends. We rest in this new state of unfabricated being-knowing, merging it with various aspects of mundane existence, including arising thoughts and feelings and experiences. All is painted with a new brush. The “doors of perception” are cleansed in a utopian brave new world of consciousness.
Beginning, not ending
But the journey is far from over. What has been described above in traditional terms involves a massive movement within the water-based electron grid of cells and interstitial tissue. It is a volcanic eruption and lava flow of the packets of massed biophotons from the cerebrospinal fluid and brain’s ventricles. We have every reason to understand that photons are the vehicles of consciousness—or that consciousness is an intrinsic quality of photons. And we have clear indications that the structured water in cells, tissues, and blood is the electron-source of prana or lūng itself. As a result of this co-mingling of side-to-side, front-to-back, and finally top-and-bottom, the Light Body begins to form in earnest. Each of the elemental chakras is now part of the Rainbow anatomy containing a mandala of subelements brimming with pristine Wisdom Element force. Channels, energy, and consciousness—tsa, lūng, and tiglé—are all benefactors of the primary template of all things: the Five Elements known as Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space.

Tumblr media
Have you ever stumbled upon a psychic story so intriguing, it keeps you up at night and all day? Well, get ready to go on a powerful journey through time with the real mysterious psychic predictions of Baba Vanga, the famous blind Bulgarian mystic whose prophecies have fascinated billions all across the universe. From foreseeing global disasters to predicting political shifts, Baba Vanga's visions paint a real vivid picture of our world's past, present, and future.
In the 1950s, Baba Vanga predicted the death of King Boris III of Bulgaria and the outbreak of World War II. These predictions, among others, solidified her reputation as a gifted seer. As people flocked to her for guidance, her visions began to expand, encompassing events that would affect the entire world.
As the world entered the 21st century, Baba Vanga's prophecies took on a global scale. Some of her most famous predictions for the 2000s include:
In a chilling prophecy, Baba Vanga reportedly foresaw the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She described "two steel birds" crashing into the "American brethren," leading to widespread tragedy. This prediction is often cited as one of her most accurate and eerie forecasts. 🦅🦅
Another significant prediction was the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26, 2004. Baba Vanga described a massive wave that would "cover the coasts and people will perish." The catastrophic event claimed the lives of over 230,000 people across multiple countries, echoing her haunting vision. 🌊🌍
Baba Vanga's predictions for the 2010s include some of the most transformative events of the decade.
She predicted the Arab Spring, a series of anti-government protests and uprisings that swept across the Arab world starting in late 2010. Her vision of a wave of turmoil spreading through nations and leading to significant political changes became a reality as the world watched in awe. 🌍✊
In 2011, Baba Vanga's foresight of a catastrophic event in Japan came true with the Fukushima nuclear disaster. She had foreseen a "great wave" flooding the coast and a subsequent "explosion" that would affect many people, eerily aligning with the tragic events in Japan. 💥🌊
Baba Vanga also predicted the rise of ISIS in 2014. She spoke of a "great Muslim war" originating in Syria, causing widespread devastation and conflict. Her predictions once again mirrored the tumultuous events unfolding in the Middle East. 🔥🌍
As we moved into the years of 2020s, Baba Vanga's prophecies continued to resonate with contemporary events.
One of her most talked-about predictions is related to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. While she didn't specify the virus, she warned of a "massive spread of illness" that would affect the entire world, causing widespread panic and economic instability. 🦠🌍
Baba Vanga predicted significant advancements in medicine around 2023. She foresaw breakthroughs in treatments for previously incurable diseases, leading to increased longevity and improved quality of life. 💊🧬
For the mid-2020s, she predicted escalating climate change issues. She described severe weather patterns, with floods, droughts, and other natural disasters becoming more frequent and intense. 🌪️🌊
Baba Vanga's predictions extend far into the future, touching on various crucial aspects of human civilization and the planet.
By 2030, Baba Vanga envisioned a shift towards a more unified global governance structure. She also predicted significant advancements in space exploration, with humans venturing further into the cosmos and establishing colonies on other planets. 🚀🪐
In the 2040s, she foresaw a world where technology and artificial intelligence would be deeply integrated into daily life. This era would bring about unprecedented changes in how people live, work, and interact. 🤖🌐
Baba Vanga predicted a "Golden Age" around 2050. She envisioned a world where humanity has overcome many of its current challenges, leading to an era of peace, prosperity, and harmony. Technological advancements, environmental restoration, and global cooperation would mark this period. 🌟🌍
Baba Vanga's predictions have always been a topic of debate. Skeptics argue that many of her prophecies are vague and open to interpretation, making it easy to retrospectively link them to real events. They also point out that some predictions have not come to pass, questioning the validity of her visions. 🤔
On the other hand, believers highlight the accuracy of several significant predictions, arguing that her insights were truly prophetic. They see her as a visionary who possessed a unique gift to perceive future events beyond the understanding of ordinary people. 🔮
Regardless of whether you believe in her prophecies, Baba Vanga's legacy endures. She remains a cultural and historical icon, symbolizing the mysterious and unexplainable aspects of human existence. Her life story and predictions continue to inspire books, documentaries, and discussions, keeping her memory alive. 📚🎥
Her predictions, whether believed or not, serve as a reminder of the uncertainties of the future and the ever-present human desire to understand what lies ahead. They provoke thought and reflection on the trajectory of our world and the potential paths it may take. 🌍💭

6/26/24: Pride in Dawnland, Folklore, Microaggressions, and Indigenous Queerness.
Queerness is and always has been.
In their 2023 talk, Passamaquoddy historian, medicine person, and maker Geo Neptune discusses gender, cultural identity, sexuality, and their craft at Bowdoin College.
I originally listened to this talk as a part of my American Folklore class this last semester. Understanding folklore as part of every human society, the ways in which we interact with it, and how it affects every aspect of our lives was truly eye-opening.
I digress. I could fill a book with the importance of folklore in cultural interaction, regardless of what "groups" one may be a part of.
I decided to open with Geo's talk and provide this as something of a baseline of where my thinking is coming from in this post. I highly recommend listening to the whole talk if you can.
Dawnland has always and always will have queer people. It will always have Indigenous queer people.
The Wabanaki have a very felt presence in the central and coastal Maine area where I'm from—especially Penobscot and Passamaquoddy, who live closest to Bangor. I recently had the pleasure of attending Bangor's 32nd Pride, an event which has become increasingly Indigenous since I first began attending back in 2017. Visit the website for the event now, and the first thing you will see is the image of the Wabanaki Two-Spirit Alliance walking in the parade. This has felt momentous, and an active effort by both (perhaps most importantly) Wabanaki people, as well as their non-Native queer allies.
Since "joining" the queer community at age ~13, I've had the pleasure of experiencing many different angles of my queer community. Something that I've appreciated on a local, "irl" level is the effort of integrating queer and Indigenous education. I first heard Geo Neptune speak on being Two-Spirit and Indigenous ways of engaging with sexuality, gender identity, and societal roles when I was about 15 years old at my first Rainbow Ball, a queer, alternative prom held in Western coastal Maine each year. Workshops during the day offered us opportunities to engage with queer adults and learn about our community's history, present, about safety, and various other topics (such as Geo's talk on Two-Spirits in Maine).
When I attended Pride last week (the largest in the history of the event), I was browsing stalls with my partner and best friend when I was stopped by a (white, non-Indigenous) sewist who complimented my skirt. I thanked her, saying that it was a ribbon skirt. I had bought this pink and blue ribbon skirt at the spring social on Indian Island this year, an event by and for the local Indigenous community. It was made by a very skilled older woman. I won't say the price, but it was expensive--I felt, though, given the history of ribbon skirts, and their role as a regalia item to some, this was a fair price. The price must be affected by the time, materials, energy, and cultural importance of the item.
This is why I was shocked when the sewist launched into a pitch about how she could make something similar for me for only $35 and began showing me her wares. While I was understanding as a fellow creative seeking to connect and make a living, comparing a clothing item with deep cultural importance and symbolism to an item of regular clothing did not sit right with me. It left me disgruntled and wrestling with my feelings.
Circling back to folklore, I and this sewist are of (assumedly) shared groups--Queer people, Mainers, and Americans. But I am Indigenous, and she is not. "Groups" in the folkloric sense are defined as two or more people that share something in common. All groups have folklore–material and nonmaterial. A ribbon skirt is folk art, a traditional article of clothing, and is important to Indigenous women both as an expression of identity and as a piece of regalia; It has deep historical and cultural meaning that is not understood by those outside of our group.
To the outsider, in seeing the skirt, it becomes a sum of the materials from a craft store (assumed to be relatively inexpensive) and effort (perhaps seen as minimal to a skilled and experienced sewist). In lacking cultural context, the entitlement lies in the assumption that a colonizer can replicate the importance of a garment cheaply. It stems from a lack of understanding of the other group, yes, but also a devaluation of cultural objects. The item is seen as clothing and not folk art.
Some people are just misinformed, awkward, and lacking in information. On one hand, I feel that this lack of education or social grace can't be held against them. On the other, the devaluation of a cultural garment by a settler is a microaggression that is perhaps symbolic of a greater issue in settler-Indigenous relations.
I want to clarify before I go any further that I don't feel any ill will towards this individual, and that I don't really know anything of her background; This anecdote simply means to serve as a lesson and rumination in the decolonization of thought and behavior.
In my previous post, I discussed Christianity and the entitlement that this religious tradition has given to colonizers. It is an inescapable reality that permeates American life, even if it is not something one religiously ascribes to. When Adam and Eve left Eden, all that the Earth had to provide was for the taking of man to eke out a survival. In the Christian-dominated Euro-American tradition, the relationship between humans and the world around them would be inherently selfish and destructive. This dogma of entitlement to the world around oneself permeates all of the interactions one has, and the decolonization of thought must be an active and continuous effort.
As Queer people, we can only really guarantee in Queer spaces that we share a singular group (that being queerness). People will come from all walks of life, will be from differing and overlapping groups, and have a body of life experiences that are extremely diverse. This is the beauty of community. The effort made by Bangor Pride to express this diversity is admirable, and I am hopeful and excited about future events. This small interaction did not color the event for me, but provided an interesting thought discussion.
If you made it to the end of my post, I want to thank you as usual for reading. Let me know your thoughts in my inbox, by commenting, reblogging, etc. Respectful and thoughtful discussion is always encouraged!

AS LAKOTA MEDICINE MAN JOHN STANDSYEAR SAYS :
ONLY CREATOR OWNS THIS LAND,
WE ARE ONLY LANDLORDS ...
Do not tell me you have Indian blood, that you are one quarter ... Don't tell me one of your grandparents was an Indian, or hand me a piece of paper from a corrupt government, with colonized laws and rules about who is and who isn't an American Indian !!! This I have dealt with many times on here, Insulted, because I have no paper ... Stop it ! That's how our Ancestors kept records, their stories ...
Come to me with straight eyes, and say proudly that you are an Indian ... No one else in America needs paperwork to prove what race they are, only the rightful owners of this land ...
Come to me and show me who you are !!!
Your blood, relatives or a piece of paper does not make you an Indian. You must be willing to live with honesty, integrity, courage, respect, and always remain unselfish towards your neighbors ... For these are the things, that makes you an Indian ...

Aperçu of the Week:
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts."
(Winston Chrchill, former multi- & prime minister of Great Britain, historian and Nobel Prize winner for literature)
Bad News of the Week:
NATO is launching a maneuver in the next days. With 90,000 soldiers, "Steadfast Defender" is the largest since the end of the Cold War. What is being simulated - seriously, according to the official announcement! - is the defense "against an attack by Russia on NATO territory". Ooph... That's how far we've come now. Or again.
At the same time, the Ukrainian government is planning a massive increase in the conscription of its men. Hundred thousands additional soldiers are to go to war. With no combat experience, hardly any training and a faltering supply of equipment. This also acknowledges what observers have long assumed: that Vladimir Putin is relying on a protracted war of attrition. Unfortunately, from a strategic point of view, he is right.
In contrast to Russia's well-oiled arms industry, the West's military support for Ukraine is decreasing. The most important supplier, the USA, in particular, no longer has a budget at its disposal due to the refusal of a group of arch-conservative Republicans. A group that absurdly calls itself the "freedom caucus" - which apparently does not apply to support for a country that has been innocently attacked and is ultimately defending its freedom.
A colleague told me about his assessment that the election of Donald Jessica Trump at the end of November this year would probably have its good side too. After all, he would strike a deal with Putin on the price he would be willing to pay for an agreement and, of course ("America first"), stop all support for Ukraine at the same time. Which would then have no choice but to hand over Crimea, the Donbas and the territories in between to Russia. Phew...
Good News of the Week:
People are standing up. In sub-zero temperatures, millions of Germans are actually gathering on streets and squares to stand up against right-wing extremists and for democracy. The motto is "Never again is now!". Many are attending a demonstration for the first time, bringing children with them, having painted posters - democracy at work. I have been waiting a long time for the silent majority to finally stop being silent in the face of rising poll figures for the right-wing AfD (Alternative für Deutschland / Alternative for Germany) - currently at 22%.
The trigger was a subversive meeting of right-wing extremists who discussed strategies to deport all non-Germans, to put it simply. Uncovered by investigative journalists. I learned the word "demigration" in the process. Don't get me started on how valuable the so-called guest workers (mainly Turks) were for the German economic miracle back in the 1960s. That care for the elderly in this country would collapse without Eastern Europeans. Or that neither commercial kitchens would be able to survive without Filipinos nor IT departments without Indians. That immigration is necessary to maintain prosperity in our ageing society. And that integration fails more often due to a lack of willingness to accept immigrants than a lack of adaptability of those.
We are all human beings. A species that only exists because it has perfected the principle of cooperation. When one person goes hunting, another has to take care of the fire. Today we call that specialization. Or when was the last time you milked a cow, tilled a field, forged a shovel or prepared a medicine? Exactly. Morally, this becomes a community of solidarity in which not only does everyone do what they do best for everyone else, but the strong also stand up for the weak. You simply can't be blind in the right eye.
It is fitting that last week the Bundestag decided to amend the legislation on citizenship for immigrants. Against the votes of the conservative CDU/CSU and - surprise! - the AfD. In short: it will be easier and quicker than before. Above all because dual citizenship will be possible. It is important to know that in Germany, out of a population of 84 million, at least 12 million do not have a German passport. And are therefore not allowed to vote, for example. This door is now open. For a good 1.5 million Turks. And my wife. I have a strong suspicion that the radical right-wing AfD will not score any points with these citizens with their degenerate values.
Personal happy moment of the week:
We got rid of a monster. Eight years ago, I took over a yucca palm from a friend that was getting too big for his home. And I had a good place for it. And then only problems. The stubborn thing grew in all the wrong directions, attracted vermin and for years dripped a sticky secretion that ruined the sofas next to it, rendered a lamp useless, smeared a window and disfigured a speaker on the surround sound system. Now I've finally got round to getting rid of it. Which was difficult, because I had no room for it. It's now on the patio and dying, because it's still January in the northern hemisphere.
But I got over myself. And then for hours - there were four! - of scrubbing and cleaning to remove the incredibly dirty, sticky corner that had formed behind the sofas over the years. I managed it. And now I enjoy my first espresso in a clean living room every morning. I'm just not allowed to look out of the window to see the slow death of a living thing. Doesn't help.
I couldn't care less...
...that the train drivers' union has announced another complete rail strike. This time for a whole six days, starting last night. Workers' rights with all due respect, but if you no longer show any willingness to negotiate and the action becomes an end in itself, you are taking the population hostage. And you lose all understanding, not to mention sympathy.
It's fine with me...
...that we've had quite a mild winter this year. Because now I can take the bike to get to the station. And I don't feel guilty when my neighbors get up earlier than me to clear snow from our shared yard. And I'm happy about lower heating costs. Nice, actually. If it weren't for the human-induced climate change, what causes this mild winter. Which makes me shiver again.
As I write this...
...I listen to the first live album of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Wow, what a joy these guys bring to the stage. The Boss really knows how to work a crowd. Nice.
Post Scriptum
Gaza is still hell on earth. Unfortunately, that's all I can say at this moment. When are the next elections in Israel again?

Whether you're looking to boost your immunity, enhance your skin's radiance, or fortify your overall well-being, Amla and Moringa might just be your secret weapons. Let's dive into the world of these remarkable plants and discover why they deserve a place in your daily routine.
Amla: The Indian Gooseberry
Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is a fruit that has been revered in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. This small, green fruit is packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and various other essential nutrients. Here's why Amla deserves a spot on your wellness radar:
Immunity Booster: Amla's vitamin C content is unparalleled, making it a natural immune system enhancer. Regular consumption of Amla can help ward off infections and keep your body's defense mechanisms strong.
Glowing Skin: The antioxidants present in Amla play a crucial role in promoting healthy, radiant skin. They help combat free radicals, which can lead to premature aging and skin issues.
Hair Health: Amla is a common ingredient in hair care products due to its ability to strengthen hair follicles, reduce hair loss, and promote hair growth.
Digestive Aid: Amla supports digestion by stimulating the secretion of gastric juices and improving gut health. It can alleviate constipation and indigestion issues.
Diabetes Management: Research suggests that Amla may help regulate blood sugar levels, making it a potential ally for individuals with diabetes.
Moringa: The Miracle Tree
Moringa, often referred to as the "Miracle Tree" or "Drumstick Tree," is a plant native to tropical and subtropical regions. Every part of this tree, from its leaves to its seeds, is packed with nutrients and health benefits. Here's why Moringa is making waves in the health and wellness community:
Nutrient Powerhouse: Moringa leaves are rich in vitamins (A, C, E, and B-complex), minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium), and essential amino acids, making it one of the most nutrient-dense foods available.
Anti-Inflammatory: The bioactive compounds in Moringa possess potent anti-inflammatory properties, which can help alleviate chronic inflammatory conditions.
Antioxidant Rich: Moringa's antioxidants, including quercetin and chlorogenic acid, combat oxidative stress, reduce cellular damage, and promote overall well-being.
Cholesterol Control: Studies suggest that Moringa may help lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Energy Boost: Moringa's nutrient profile provides a sustainable energy boost without the crash associated with caffeine.
Amla and Moringa: A Powerful Combination
Imagine the possibilities when you combine the strengths of Amla and Moringa in your daily routine. The synergy of these two superfoods can create a holistic approach to health and wellness. Here's how you can integrate them:
Smoothies: Blend Amla and Moringa powder into your morning smoothie for an energizing and nutrient-packed start to your day.
Tea Infusions: Brew Amla and Moringa leaves to create a revitalizing herbal tea that supports your immune system and overall vitality.

Culinary Delights: Incorporate dried Moringa leaves or Amla powder into your cooking to infuse dishes with an extra dose of nutrition.
In Conclusion

looking up to see what punani medicine [check this before posting] is i found this
The purpose of this compendium of court orders and various rules and regulations is to acquaint doctors regarding specific provisions and orders barring quackery by unqualified people, practitioners of Indian & Integrated Medicine to practice Modern Medicine. This ready reckoner of provision of Acts and rules and court orders will allow you to decipher whether one is a quack and what actions are required to be taken against him.
We read/view in print and electronic media about many cases of patients who have suffered major health setback or even died due to receiving allopathic treatment from unqualified quacks. This is the tip of the iceberg as most cases of malpractice go unreported. It has been reported that number of quacks are increasing in India, both in urban and rural areas. It is estimated that about 10 lakh quacks are practicing allopathic medicine, out of which 4 lakh belong to practitioners of Indian Medicine (Ayurvedic, Sidha, Tibb and Unani). The health of the gullible people including poor, critically ill, women and children are at stake. Therefore, there is a greater need to act against quacks wherever any of us come across them.
10 lakh quacks... think of it

Notable American Women: BARTON, Clara (Dec. 25, 1821 - Apr. 12, 1912)
“...Named Clarissa Harlowe, after the heroine of Richardson’s novel, she preferred to be known simply as Clara. She was deeply influenced by her family. Her father, to whom she was especially close, was a veteran of the Indian wars and a substantial farmer and sawmill owner who inspired his daughter with patriotism, a love of military lore, and a broad humanitarian interest.
From her mother, a practical, hot-tempered, and warm-hearted woman, she acquired a lifelong interest in the household arts. Her four considerably older brothers and sisters also played important parts in her education, guiding her in mathematics, literature, and out-of-doors activities, including horsemanship. “I had no playmates but in effect six fathers and mothers,” she later wrote.
…Plain in feature, almost neurotically sensitive, and endowed with an abundance of nervous energy, she early evidenced a strong will, a determination to surmount obstacles, and a capacity to identify herself with needy sufferers. At eighteen, little more than five feet tall, she began to teach in neighboring schools, her early success giving her increasing self-confidence and poise. Her patience, integrity, sense of fun, and ability to inspire won the life-long devotion of many of her pupils.
…In the confused days that marked the beginning of the Civil War, Clara Barton found an opportunity to aid and befriend homesick Massachusetts soldiers in the capital. Later, witnessing the almost total lack of first-aid facilities at the battle of Bull Run, she advertised in the Worcester (Mass.) Spy for provisions for the wounded.
Using her own limited quarters as a storeroom, she accumulated bandages, medicines, and food. Despite initial opposition in the War Department and among field surgeons, she and a few friends began in the summer of 1862 to distribute these supplies by mule team to ill-equipped hospitals and camps and on the battlefields themselves.
…Insistent on keeping her operations independent of the United States Sanitary Commission and of Dorothea Dix’s division of female nurses, Clara Barton short-circuited military routine and again and again appeared at military engagements with desperately needed supplies. Adaptable and cooperative, she was able to commandeer army mules and wagons for transport. It was her genius to blend sympathy with efficiency and never-failing resourcefulness.
…Increasingly she won the respect and admiration of commanding officer and surgeons, one of whom wrote, after seeing her in action at a critical juncture, that “if heaven ever sent out a holy angel, she must be one, her assistance was so timely”. She always insisted that she was only one of hundreds of women who had rendered such service, yet by thousands of soldiers she was remembered as the Angel of the Battlefield.
…Undismayed by governmental and public apathy, she initiated what was to prove a five-year campaign for the organization of an American Red Cross Society and the adherence of her country to the Geneva Treaty. …Spending increasing periods of time in Washington (her permanent home after 1884), she worked indefatigably, though often in a mood of profound discouragement, to persuade the State Department, the White House, and Congress to ratify the treaty.
…Finally, on Mar. 1, 1882, with the approval of the Secretary of State James G. Blaine and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, President Arthur signed the Geneva Treaty. Two weeks later the Senate ratified it. Both at home and abroad, it was generally agreed that American adherence could not have been effected had it not been for Clara Barton’s persistent campaign.
…Aware of the tendency of some philanthropic organizations to remain in operation longer than the situation warranted, she made a point of leaving when the main work was done. Although she cooperated with local relief groups and with government agencies when these were involved, she insisted on keeping tight rein over whatever was done. Her program consisted of getting as speedily as possible to the scene of the emergency with relief--food, clothing, medicine, materials for shelter. Anticipating a later emphasis, she was concerned with rehabilitation as well as with relief.
…But there was serious criticism, both from within the organization and from outside, of Miss Barton’s management. Many felt that her place was at her desk in Washington rather in the field preparing soup for soldiers or establishing orphan asylums for Cuban waifs. So ill-defined were relations between the national Red Cross organization and its nominal auxiliaries that much of the useful red Cross war work, particularly in the training of nurses, was wholly independent of the national office.
…She could not delegate authority. Any criticism of her informal method of handling finances, which was without benefit of acceptable bookkeeping or audits, seemed to her to impugn her integrity. The truth was that she clung to power when it was clear to all but her most devoted supporters that new methods and new leadership were required.
…Whatever her failings, the honors were unquestionably merited. In a public career spanning over forty years, she had not only performed outstanding humanitarian services at home and abroad, but, above all, she had made the emblem and meaning of the Red Cross familiar to her countrymen.”
