PLACISIM BEYOND RACISM: IS THE @PYERMOSS TABERNACLE DRIP CHOIR DRENCHED IN THE @BOF? 2. _ #Affirmativefashion is the necklace for the etymology of community (common-munis) as “shared substance” — Are we wondering if gathering around a shared substance isn’t always a good thing when we read @Kerbito? The success of colonial white supremacy was convincing clever Africans and African-Americans to be #rational about anti-blackness. To be #logical about colonialism. Same with the all marginalized subculture communities. They want them to be #calm about unhumaning. It’s picked up by the clercs and the book keepers like the @ImranAmed. Imagine if a #MahatmaGandhi on his trips to #London, renounced, because of @lvmh’s investments, to dismiss the very fight he was entrusted with by his country: INDEPENDANCE IN AUTHENTICITY. RIP #Gandhi had a soul, #BoF is a product of a white @McKinseyCo system. What do you expect? #Fashion is even way superficial that it moved on the #inclusion and #diversity B$ becoming instantaneously the champion of #climatechange, #$ustainability and #ecology. Appalling how they take us for dumbs with myopia up their minds thinking they are fooling us. Take les #CahiersduCinema, you will understand that #ImranAmed missed his #Truffaut opportunity to become an authentic, beyond a successful, publisher. FYI, the minute I saw @voguebusiness on the market with all their @condenast might, I knew the #BoF500 years numbered. Pure strategy. The @voguemagazine observed then with their capabilities they are full force way more relevant than a business magazine trying to be too much themes of too much things. Critiquing, Courrier International and Wall Street Journal of Fashion in one. Even betrayed, Kerby practiced hardcore persistence like the @DapperDanHarlem, both “getting checks but checking (the system) out”. They want to get these checks with dignity without catering to the white supremacy by selling their community short. Business of. Fierce. Not. Farce. _ #ALESSANDROBERGA | L’ÉDITOR #PARIS #MODEDIPLOMATIQUE (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3N3MaKH-_i/?igshid=b8plm68nglj2

5 Things Fashion Students Need to Know in 2017 By Imran Amed
“We’re in a time of great disruption, but that also means that we’re in a time of great innovation,” Imran Amed said, at the SCAD Museum of Art, answering questions fielded by John Paul Rowan, SCAD’s vice president of strategy and innovation.  “The companies willing try new things are the companies taking things forward.”
Imran Amed, a founder and editor-in-chief of The Business of Fashion.

1. “Understanding the business is as important as loving the medium.” “Learn how the business works. In order to understand your role in the fashion business, you have to understand the entire value chain of fashion, not just the glossy stuff. The glossy stuff is not enough.” Amed said.
2.“A big follower count is only valuable if you do something with it.” “If you have followers, that’s one thing, but to be genuinely influential, impactful, you have to use that follower count in a way that can shift and shape things.” he said.
3. Luxury brands must learn how to service consumers looking to transform themselves both spiritually and physically.
4.Technology can propel a fashion brand or store forward, but only if it’s used in a considered, meaningful way. “I am not a futurist, I can only surmise that one of the best ways to use some of these new technologies is for storytelling. This is an industry that creates content and powerful imagery that inspires and touches people, and if technology can enhance that it can be very useful."
5.Businesses must be socially, ethically and environmentally responsible, or risk consumer backlash.

Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond Slams ‘Business of Fashion’s’ Inclusivity, Mag Responds
Source: Yuchen Liao / Getty
Fashion’s go to trade magazine is under fire and for all the right reasons. One of the game’s hottest designers has them under pressure.
Hypebeast is reporting that Business of Fashion, the world’s leading trade publication on fashion, has admitted they have some work to do. Earlier this week the editorial staff announced their annual #BoF500, a list that names the top 500 most influential people. The lineup included Kerby Jean-Raymond, founder of menswear label Pyer Moss. He has since declined the recognition due to their insensitivity at their accompanying BoF‘s 500 in Paris and then some.

A post shared by Kerby Jean-Raymond (@kerbito) on Oct 1, 2019 at 1:07pm PDT
Raymond wrote a lengthy letter on Medium accusing the staff and industry as a whole of cultural appropriation. “Homage without empathy and representation is appropriation” he declared. “Instead, explore your own culture, religion and origins. By replicating ours and excluding us — you prove to us that you see us as a trend. Like, we gonna die black, are you.”
Naturally the intensive piece circulated quickly forcing Business Of Fashion editor-in-chief Imran Amed to respond.

Yeah… It’s uncomfortable for me too.
A post shared by Kerby Jean-Raymond (@kerbito) on Feb 5, 2019 at 6:19am PST
Amed made it clear that Raymond is not alone. “Kerby has every right to voice his concerns and we respect his perspective. He is also right about several things. As Kerby points out, the fashion industry has often treated inclusivity as a trend, putting diverse faces in our ad campaigns, on our runways, on our magazine covers and, yes, at our parties because it’s cool and of the moment. But I can assure you that this topic is not a trend for BoF” he wrote.
Over the last year, several high-profile brands have been guilty of incorporating culturally insensitive imagery. This specifically caused Gucci to create more opportunities for people of color after their infamous sweater that resembled blackface imagery. You can read Amed’s formal response in full here.

PLACISIM BEYOND RACISM: IS THE @PYERMOSS TABERNACLE DRIP CHOIR DRENCHED IN THE @BOF? PROLOGUE _ It’s not about accolades, it’s about authenticity. @Kerbito spoke for and on behalf of what @DapperDanHarlem had always fought for. @Gucci’s #MarcoBizzari + @Alessandro_Michele banked on the cultural appropriation post-indignation. @BoF’s @ImranAmed just did it to the “rookie” by dismissing him of the #Bof500 cover dissing in the process ethics of journalism. Covers are decided when you reach out to a persona and explicitly elect them as your sounding board. The real question is: what if #KerbyJeanRaymond got to be on this #bof cover? We might have missed an opportunity to read a piece from him where commonalities against cohesion on societal issues were denounced and where interrelationships against infrastructure were exposed. The fashion system is still not at all equipped to embrace communities without prejudices only to treat them like $cene$. His dear friend @AuroraJames said it elegantly “I don’t have an industry, I have a family”. Kerby played nice and open, even he had to bend to the conniving methods not the convinced-for-cause ones out of respect for peers to speak, from an insider bench, heck trenches, about his community. Instead, he experienced the “reste à ta place!”, a vicious, quietly violent and intellectually degrading placism way more toxic than open racism because it robbed him from an on-the-spot contrarianism. I've seen lots of communities struggle to hold diverse opinions and ultimately settle on squeezing out calls for nuance. Praise the lord he did not. He spook up after tears crippled his community and his dignity in a fête foireuse. He had one more time a bad taste of a cunning fashion society à Paris. Now #ImranAmed, a “brown and gay“ as he wrote from an Indian descent, was happy to be adopted and absorbed until he dissolved as a “one of them” by the white system of fashion, never contemplating that the very blog he started out of #Toronto, could have championed, diversity when he became successful, by promote-in real #affirmativefashion. _ #ALESSANDROBERGA | L’ÉDITOR #PARIS #MODEDIPLOMATIQUE (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3N1hiOHrVS/?igshid=4jjjk2soyj97
