W.I.T.C.H. G2 book 2 has from the looks of it released today

There's honestly not much to tell about it from the 2 publicly seen preview pages ("Will gets a crush on a guitarist" and "Cornelia accidentally plays WarioWare"), and the Amazon IT synopsis is incomprehensible even with DeepL.

One part struck me from the preview pages, however:

Will seems to look very bleak in the preview page. As in, very bleak. And it seems to be her default look in Volume 2.

At that point it's not a matter of skin color debates. It's a matter of "Will should probably go to a hospital to get her blood pressure levels checked, stat."

Dans les années du 1er Empire, la mode masculine en France est imprégnée par la mode vestimentaire anglaise. Bien que souhaitant des habits plus pratiques que tape à l'œil, ceux à la Cour se simplifient sans pour autant cesser d'être ornés.

Le 1er Empire est une période qui s’étend de 1804 à 1815. La mode de cette époque se développe réellement en 1799 lors du consulat. Ce n’est qu’alors la mode verra un net assagissement avec un style à l’antique. La naissance de l’Empire fera renaître l’étiquette et le costume de cours sous la forme de la “Robe-Tunique” pour les femmes. Les Robes-Tuniques, de longues robes à taille haute, dotées d’une petite traîne qu’elles perdent toutefois en 1806. Elles possèdent un petit décolleté qui devient alors carré tandis que les étoffes employées ne seront plus exclusivement des tissus légers. C’est en effet, sous la gouvernance de Napoléon Ier et de son empire, qu’une l’entreprise de ranimer l’industrie lyonnaise sera imposée à la cour des soieries et les velours prendront le pas et cela dès 1808 qui seront sur les linons (Tissu fin et transparent, de lin ou de coton.) et les Mousselines (Tissu extrêmement léger et transparent en coton, originaire de la ville de Dacca, dans l'actuel Bangladesh). Ce n’est qu’en 1804 et d’abord sous la forme d’une petite brassière en toile que le corset apparaît. Il s’allongera avec notamment le Corset à la Ninon. Toutefois, le port du frac est codifié et ne se fait qu’en certains lieux et certaines occasions, le rendant ainsi plus proche d’un “habit d’apparat” que d’un réel “habit civil”.

En 1815, avec la chute de l’Empire, on entrera dans une période de transition qui peu à peu, transformera les formes droites des robes en des formes plus amples tandis que la taille s'abaisse. C’est aussi à cette période que les “Passages Parisien” prendront de l’ampleur et deviendront peu à peu, un classique de la mode. a shock site is a website that is made simply for the purpose of being offensive or disturbing to the viewer. most of these sites contain gore, weird pornography, violent, or graphic pictures/videos.

sometimes these sites are made just to disturb people, other times it’s for sexual pleasure (because yes, some people really do get off to that kind of stuff). most of the time these sites come without warning, solely to cause distress to the viewer.

rotten.com:

rotten.com was one of the first and well known shock sites, being launched in 1996 and was made by soylent. one of the most infamous things this website is known for is for hosting pictures of princess diana after the car wreck. these were later proven to be fake. it continued to host pictures of dead celebrities, which brought lots of attention to the site. rotten.com faced many controversies throughout its time, due to it holding footage of 9/11 jumpers. it gained a cease and desist from mattel after it took over the url mattell.com, so when people mistyped mattel it would bring them to rotten. the site continued to gain many cease and desists throughout its time. rotten.com is no longer up, but you can see the archive by using the wayback machine.

ogrish/liveleak:

ogrish was made in the year 2000, and was branded as an alternative news source. it said it provided unfiltered news to its users. it became known for its footage of wars in iraq and afghanistan, execution videos by mexican drug cartels and the islamic state, and russian dash came footage. ogrish closed down after six years, and became liveleak. it was made by the same creators of ogrish, and had the same idea. the difference was many of the videos on this site were submitted by users. this site got heavy backlash from criminals and terrorists, even being hacked by south korean hackers after the execution of kim sun-il was posted. this site was known for posting the execution of saddam hussein. and an american journalist james foley, who was killed by the ISIS. liveleak shut down in 2021, and the reason is unknown.

bestgore:

bestgore was made in 2008 by mark marek. it contained user submitted videos of graphic snd violent things, and users could comment on said videos. the website became very popular when a video tilted “1 lunatic, 1 icepick,” was posted onto the site. this video was made by luka magnotta, and showed him killing jun lin with an icepick. bestgore shut down in 2020, due to it being too expensive to run. this site is excluded from the wayback machine, so i’m unsure if you can still see it anywhere.

runthegauntlet.org:

runthegauntlet.org was made in 2015, and is still available to see today (viewer discretion is advised). this has the all the other content already mentioned, but this time it’s a challenge. to complete the challenge, you have to watch twenty shock videos that slowly get more graphic. you cannot pause or skip videos either (but you can exit out of the videos and the website). there’s another website that’s completely sfw, called “running the gauntlet, cringe edition.” there’s forty-one videos that are not shock videos.

pleasure:

some people get sexual pleasure from the graphic content on these sites, or they find it all humorous and want to get a good laugh.

obsession:

people become easily obsessed with things they aren’t or can’t see. meaning they will do anything to see this content. ex: “i’m not shown it, so i need to see/understand/find it.” people want to justify wanting to view this content, they may think: “this happened because of this, and the world needs to know why and how. we should see this to know about it.”

coping mechanisms:

to some people, these videos can bring comfort. it may stem from trauma, or the idea of knowing what can happen to oneself.

genuine interest:

some people consume this content purely for the interest of the human body (this is more so talking specifically about gore).

J'ai enfin recommencé Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. C'est à dire, j'ai un peu sauté quelques épisodes pour être au jour avec Monte Cristo daily (pas encore à jour).

Bref, je suis encore dans le châpitre de l'île de Tiboulen et je me suis arrêtée au moment quand on le sauve et on le prend dans un navire. Il ne porte pas de vetêments, donc on demande à un autre marin de lui donner un pantalon et une vareuse, s'il en a.

C'est à dire, ce n'est pas garanti qu'un marin ait assez de vetêments pour en prêter. Et d'ailleurs, c'est le cas puisqu'il n'a pas de vareuse, mais une chemise.

Petit rappel sur le fait qu'on fait encore les vetêments à la main. Oui, il y a des métiers à tisser, mais filer les matériaux est toujours, encore, fait manuellement (et plus encore dans le temps du livre, qui est censé de passer en début du XIXème siècle). Très probablement par les femmes et les filles des marins (peut-être aussi par les marins s'ils ont du temps libre dans les bâteaux ??), et puis tous ces fils sont emportés au métier à tisser du village qui fait la toile.

C'est donc lent et cher d'avoir 2 ou 3 vetêments complets (soit, pantalon + chemise/vareuse + tricot ?).

Et puis, sur la vareuse, quelques choses intéressantes que j'ai vu sur wikipedia sont qu'il y en avait de différentes couleurs selon la région, pour mieux reconnaître les navires et les gens dans la mer et dans les ports, et qu'elles n'ont pas de bouton extérieur, mais intérieur pour pas qu'il se mèlent avec les cordes ou toute autre chose lors du travail.

Il faut donc ajouter aux difficultés d'avoir un uniforme complet, la teinture. On ne peut pas avoir une vareuse blanche, et les couleurs n'étaient pas toujours faciles à faire : le noir pour la Hollande, le bleu à Boulogne et Dieppe, le rouge à Concarneau, l’écru à Arcachon (peut-être celui-ci pourrait être du lin sans traiter, mais comme on voit ci-dessous, si c'est fait de la toile d'une voile, ce sera plutôt de la laine, peut-être aussi sans teindre). "La patine de la toile avec le temps permettait aussi de différencier les jeunes marins des anciens."
