I have been listening to New Order's - Power, Corruption and Lies a lot, it is kinda my Viren and Sarai album, even though it's very eighties and not super relevant, there's just a certain bittersweetness, especially to the last song..

Possibly Viren and Sarai are in some ways my faves of the TDP characters we've seen so far, and I'm kinda curious about how their relationship might have been, because... well, I want them to have had a pretty close relationship and so I am like, oh.. there was that one line in the novels where Amaya says perhaps Viren knew her sister better in some ways than she did..

Which allows me to at least interpret they must have been friends, maybe good friends? Though I guess there would be a fair few complicated feelings tied up in the Viren, Harrow and Sarai dynamic in many ways.. especially for Viren haha.. BUT also I feel Sarai at least has the emotional maturity to handle these things in the best possible way, and having a different sort of relationship to the one Viren and Harrow share she would keep them from their worst excesses, and when she died… they lost..

Like they both lost so much that Viren spends the next ten years obsessing over getting revenge.

Alright, even though I know deep in my heart this was probably because Viren was looking for any old excuse to kill Avizendum and start whatever world war and annihilation that proved to be his ultimate aim.. well I am also stubborn and wilful and I want to have that dumb shred of possibility that Viren was grieving hard and because Sarai was Harrow’s wife he never had anywhere to put that grief except for dark magic and uhh.. a super long hunt for a unicorn horn? Yeah.. yeah.. idk really..

But I want Sarai to have been the person Viren would talk to about stuff he might not share with Harrow and vice versa..

(Annnd there is also the point during magma titan where Viren would leave Sarai and Amaya to make it back alone and Sarai says in that moment she hated him viscerally.. but err.. Viren knew they could make it back.. and err.. don’t we always hate things we are close to more than things we don’t really care about? Welp, that’s what I am going to convince myself..)

Viren finding Sarai's boss eyed baby look undeniably attractive...

Alright, and I ship them just a little too, sue me..

Okay, will I ship Viren with every character of his generation (or the one above) that appears in TDP?

Yeah, I think I probably will… but I was going to say - hah, I won’t ship Viren with a dragon at least… no.. no.. no.. that’s never gonna happen… and then… then I had to think about Viren and hench ol' Rex Igneous hanging out.. just for a nanosecond, that’s all.. and now I am no longer sure about that either..

let’s just say this life is infinite and strange and the possibilities are endless.?

#damn I have perused the books so carefully I can actually find the lines I want without searching for hours..#anyway I might write a story about Viren and Sarai having a smooch on the night before her wedding.. just cause.. Batu nisan

Lagi baca post instagramnya adiknya Putri, Gusti Aditya, yang di Pere Lachaise terus can’t help but thinking: “what rock I would ask my family (or friends, or whoever will take care of me later in my old age) to use as my batu nisan?”

Sebagai geologist, the number 1 question I got asked (at least when I was in Oxford where people care about what other people do, unlike in Indonesia) is: “what is your fave rock, or the best rock in your opinion???”

The first time I got asked this, maybe in late 2020(?), it took me ~1 minute to think. And I thought HARD. Dan jawabannya super TEMPLATE dan diplomatis: “Well… I don’t think I can choose, it won’t be fair to the other rock” (idk why I did that, no one would judge my choices, LITERALLY, and not like they’d UNDERSTAND either, l was hanging out with non-geology people)

PLEASE.

TAPI BENERANN. The question itself UDAH SALAH(!) Itu kaya nanya: “apa makanan Indonesia favorit kamu?” TEEEET🚨🚨🚨. Wrong question. Next.

Atau “Milih siapa? Papa atau mama?”, atau “what’s your favorite colour???”. Itu semua pertanyaan-pertanyaan di atas masuk ke grup yang sama: pertanyaan yang salah dan sebaiknya tidak pernah ditanyakan ke orang lain.

Tapiiii , tapi kalau misalnya itu pertanyaan ujian yang harus dijawab banget, yaa harus dipikirin juga mau nggak mau.

Yang jadi masalah adalah: I always worked with different rocks at different times, so what rock I think is most useful or important or vital for sciences would change from time to time. The bias of choosing rocks you’re spending most of your time with is also HUGE. SMA kelas 10-12, awal-awal belajar geologi banget, I always have LOVED igneous rocks, just because they are easy to understand, genesanya mudah banget dipahami dan dihapalin: oh felsic magma will make lighter-coloured rock(!), mafic is the opposite(!), slow-cooling of magma will make bigger crystal, fast-cooling will create finer crystal, and they are PRETTY to look at too! And sturdy and hard, so you’d find good use of them as ceramics, tiles, we get to see granites in hotel rooms, malls, etc.

Kayanya sampai skripsi, igneous rocks masih di top 1 aku di list (lihat bahkan ku gak milih 1 BATU, tp the BIG group of rocks, just because I didn’t know them that well I guess). Nah pas di skripsi, hampir 35% dari luas area mapping 10 x 10 km2 ku adalah metamorphic complex. Isinya mostly phyllite, schist, sama ada serpentinite juga. OH. Udah mulai naksir metamorf dikit-dikit pas Karsam deng, tahun ke-3 kuliah S1. Walaupun waktu itu lebih ke love-hate relationship sih sama filit Luk Ulo karena harus ngukur RATUSAN MICROFOLD panas-panasan di tebing sungai(!) (aku sampe pake payung ngerjainnya). Dan nggak ngerti juga BUAT APA?! Kenapa kita harus tahu principal stress dari foliasi??! (Balik lagi, anger ini tentu saja muncul dari ketidakpahaman).

Anyways, balik lagi, iya jadi kayanya pas lagi skripsi sampai sebelum ke S2, I kinda had this very weird feeling towards metamorphic rocks, the one that made you think: “do I like you or do I hate you?”. Karena beneran metamorphic rocks ini kalau dari genesanya adalah SUPER-KEREN. Dia gak sesimpel igneous rocks yang “ok magma freezing into crystals”, tapi betulan there’s a whole P-T facies diagram, terus juga influence of fluids (gas or liquid), and whole other stuff yang bikin this SHIT IS SO COMPLEX AND COMPLICATED I want to die pas ngerjain skripsi. Tapi di situlah serunya. Di situlah challengenya. Di situlah sexy-nya(?) karena super mysterious dan super harus PINTER buat bisa paham metamorf tapi juga make you want to kys (I think this is just an analogy of toxic relationship—I really shouldn’t project & read too much into it, we are talking about rocks ffs).

Last, dari S2 sampai kemarin selesai PhD: sedimentary rocks. Sebetulnya pas dari SMA pun udah tahu betapa pentingnya memelajari batusedimen: ya simply for economical reasons aja. Tidak bisa dinafikan bahwa semua yang dilakukan manusia sekarang (termasuk aku yang lagi ngetik tulisan ini di HP, dan kalian yang lagi baca tulisan ini di gadget apapun) sangat bergantung pada batuan sedimen karena petroleum systemnya (dan juga batubara tentu saja). Semua yang traditional G&G kerjain ya mikirin sedimentary rocks: reservoirs (batupasir) dan source rocks (batulempung). Oil, gas, coal, datengnya dari mana lagi kalau bukan dari: ✨batuan sedimen✨. Gak sedikit dari teman-teman kuliahku dulu yang pas ditanya “kenapa ambil jurusan geologi?”, jawabannya: “minyak” (dulu di jamanku belum lumrah menyebut sumber daya itu semua di bawah payung “energi” karena geotermal belum se-in itu, betul-betul baru mulai). Dan fair tbh. Toh kita hidup butuh uang. Jadi wajar aja (dan boleh banget dong) kalau motivasi orang belajar adalah supaya bisa mencari & menghasilkan uang (suatu prinsip yang orang-orang di Oxford tidak akan paham karena mereka sudah kaya raya hasil dari imperialisme kakek nenek moyang mereka menjajah India untuk nanam teh, gula, dan opium).

Anyways, yaudah, jadi selama S2 (dan S3), kayanya gapernah mikirin batuan lain selain batusedimen. Terlebih lagi ya pas PhD kemarin: 4.5 tahun yang dipikirin cuma shale terus (dan coal dan marl sih di 1 tahun terakhir), jadi amat sangat wajar kalau shale adalah batuan yang paling I’m emotionally attached with at the moment.

Masalahnya tapi kalau buat dijadiin batu nisan, I’m not sure I can use shale(?) karena dia super soft dan fragile dan gampang banget weathered. (Unless bisa di-resin supaya keras…). Closest I can get to is slate (ubahan metamorfic low grade dari shale yang masih kelihatan fitur laminasi shalenya tapi udah agak keras, bahasa indonesianya BatuSabak btw). Tapi masalahnya si slate/shale ini tu betul-betul gaada nilai keindahannya sama sekali. Kalau dilihat sekilas ya batu hitam super fine-grained biasa aja gitu. Dan sangat tidak masuk kepada personalityku yang menyukai chaotic colorful aesthetic ini(???).

IDIH JADI PANJANG BETUL ni tulisan. Tapi iya intinya itu. Ku amat sangat senang karena ada era-era di mana ku suka one group rock over the other sehingga harusnya bisa ngasih jawaban yang cukup objective kalau next time ditanya itu lagi (gaktau kapan akan masuk ke dunia yang ga banyak orang ketemu sama geologist dan mereka get excited over seeing/meeting a geologist). Tapi iya, sepertinya pertanyaan batunisan ini akan menjadi life quest ku untuk sementara waktu, dan kalau udah ketemu jawabannya, I will make sure to write it down in my will.

I'd say you should give these a read even if you're not usually into a/b/o, because it doesn't really linger on the whole a/b/o usual squicks people have, and it is so beautifully done. It also has a little epilogue piece which (in my opinion) has the funniest star wars imagery. I truly recommend reading these if you love canon compliant obikin.

On Trevo, after watching his Master be fret and fawned over by the governments elite, Obi-Wan miraculously peeled himself away from wanton eyes and returned to sit by his side, and for the first time ever, Anakin truly noticed the hands that rose to smooth back long copper hair.

Or, five times Anakin was distracted by Obi-Wan's hands, and one time that Obi-Wan noticed.

An *entire* fic about Obi-Wan’s hands y’all. It’s really soft and I’d say a feel-good fic if you’re in the mood for some fluff and love. There’s also a lot of pining (which is the draw!) but it’s all resolved in the end and it’s so beautifully done!

BARK HOWL CRY etc. God this fic, it really is one of *the* ones for me. I really enjoy this author’s work, but this particular fic. You know what I love, when a kink that could be considered niche, or could easily be done in a very tacky/porny way is done so intricately and artfully it just. Hhhhhhhhh it’s really good. Desperate and unwilling to accept that maybe their friendship is ruined, Anakin finds a counselor they can talk to, one that specializes in healing "teams."

Or, as the counselor would probably put it, married couples, which they are decidedly not. Not that she knows that though. And not that they know that she thinks they're in a romantic relationship either. What a silly assumption to make. It's not like they're more intimate than lovers or anything.

YOOOOOOOO God this fic this fic!!!!!! I don’t know if I need to rec Kit’s fics honestly, as with some other authors I can feel people going “yes we are aware of this fic” but as I said, I want to do an honest list lol. Listen this one really has the potential to end me I don’t know. I’m really into the premise, the setting, the dialogue, the everything.

This has every single trope I can want in a fic - first time, virginity kink, canon-verse!!!!!! I love their dynamic in this, especially love how suave Obi-Wan is. The tone, the setting, the dialogue... chef’s kiss.

Anakin breaks once they’re in the turbolift, alone, a dozen stories beneath the Council chamber and climbing steadily downwards.

“Are you even going to look at me?” he blurts out into the heavy silence, his own eyes fixed straight ahead. Obi-Wan stands still as stone beside him, but for the rise and fall of his chest, their shoulders just a breath from touching. His hands are folded into the sleeves of his robes, the very image of the calm Jedi Master.

It’s infuriating. It makes Anakin want to fidget, makes him want to run the edges of his own sleeves between his fingers and twist just for something else to focus on, but he catches himself just in time.

He doesn’t want to give Obi-Wan the satisfaction of sensing him squirm.

Or, Anakin returns from a series of missions and thinks Obi-Wan is angry with him.

Obi-Wan being angry with Anakin because he’s being too reckless is *my jam* I love this trope of one of them being too worried about the other one because they’re too reckless!!! This is beautifully written as always, I genuinely love angry!obi-wan so much, possibly one of my favourite obi-wans.

Anakin is an alpha with few hobbies, chief among them watching his favourite omega and amateur videographer Ben showcase his many, many talents. Anakin tells himself he isn't obsessed, but when he finds out Ben is a lot closer to him than he realises, he stops at nothing to get what he wants. That is, Ben's sweet little ass--even if Ben turns out to be Anakin's stuffy, buttoned-up Lit professor.

Ahhhh last but not least! Mind the tags, again with a bit of a darker Anakin in this one, but I am so obsessed with the story telling aspect and I’ll be hones the idea of ~professor kenobi being on cam on the side is just. My deadname, no don't think so. Not that my mother mentioned, anyhow. My name, though, was stolen from my middle name so. I named myself after myself, if you want to put it that way.

Uhhhhh igneous rocks are kinda cool. Amethyst has grown on me a lot. Otherwise, Lapis Lazuli is one of my faves.

I dunno how I feel about rayla being gone two years and finding nothing. Why did it take her so long to come back. I hope they answer this when her and Callum finally talk. I guess it plays in well to the whole “she needs to figure this out” because she is literally isolating herself for no good reason and hurting herself and others in the process. (Ah ha ha actually this mirrors my own life in some trauma responses in ways that are way too telling)
