Ignobel Prizes
The winners of this year's Ignobel prizes are announced around about now. The Ignobel prize is a spoof on the Nobel Prizes and are awarded for scientific studies that may seem, at first glance, rather silly - but on closer reflection, make you think. As I write this I don't know this year's winners, but here are 10 of my favourites from years gone by:

Szia!😊 random question, did you write a post about Ede and the “Ig Nobel Prize” or did I just imagine it?
Hi! Yes I did, I took it down because I didn't like the way it turned out, I wanted to rewrite it but I completely forgot.
It was a quick summary of this article, mostly the very last paragraph, which talks about him.

Pulp Storytime #5
Thrilling tales: Radio Marauders by Steven S. Long.
They robbed banks simultaneously… the radio made it simple.
Our group of ne’er-do-wells included a nervous Swedish reporter, Oksana Larrson, and a returning Lord Simon. He seemed both surprised and a little bit jealous that his sidekick Devika was rich enough that she had her own private jet*, but their chemistry was undeniable. (A great moment was when they finally realized that Swedish people speak French. They had been gossiping about the party members but Oksana was too polite to say anything.) Much ado was made about the reporter hiding in the villains' getaway car and crawling into a giant sack with a dollar sign on it. Other highlights were robbing the robbers before reporting their hide-out to the police; convincing a mad scientist that we were on his private island to give him an award, the igNobel prize; and luring Al Capone, whose loot we had ripped off, into a trap with a particularly provocative series of radio ads. (It was the sneakiest party I’ve ever been part of, with three different characters having stealth as their top or second-best skill. Just a coincidence of who showed up.)
Devi's Millions explained!
I feel like one of the main characters becoming a millionaire is a detail worth explaining! Over the course of some adventures that I didn’t write up, including The Curse of Sekhmet by J.C. Connors, Devika became extraordinarily wealthy. The first windfall was when she helped purge the ghosts from a Yukon gold mine and took it over. The second was the intro and outro of “Curse”. The adventure starts with the players foiling a multiple-bank robber. Devika, unaware that Italy didn’t have FDIC insurance in 1935, decided to split the money recovered with her peers. One of her peers was a Russian journalist who despised money, so Devika became loaded splitting 7 robberies two ways. The adventure ends with the players finding a gold-filled tomb...

Once again, a science that doesn't take methodology seriously, that doesn't run adequate controls, that doesn't test equipment, that is not skeptical of both its own hypothesis and results, is not worthy of the name. The recent fashion for ideologically-driven studies that seek to prove a politically correct conclusion to the exclusion of alternate interpretations of findings, and the return of egotism to academia, will lead us back down the path to the 19th Century pseudoscience of dead white men. To wit: it wasn't their identities that were problematic, but their approach to experimentation. Let us not make the same mistake, only more inclusive.

For funsies, you can look up the Ignobel Prize, which is essentially the Nobel Prize for doing weird stupid shit. it basically celebrates that Fuck Around and Find Out principle.
One year the winners were a team of researchers who put a dead salmon in an fMRI machine. Why? idk but they discovered that there was apparently still some residual neural activity in there and it helped some scientific advancements
Culture is so obsessed with the idea of lone geniuses that it doesn't really appreciate that most of the progress of science (and likely every other discipline) occurs collaboratively, in babysteps, and usually through a lot very tedious, utterly unsexy, work.
