Alright folks, you asked for it! Fic for a game that hasn't even come out yet...(echoes of wisdom)
FIRST OF ALL I WANT TO CLARIFY THAT A LOT OF THINGS ARE JUST INTERPRETATION AND SILLY IDEAS
Ok. Enjoy :3
Zelda gasped for air, processing what had just happened. Some sort of—of rift appeared and took Link inside, and something in her ached when she realized that he had saved her from the crystal prison rather then try to escape the malicious rift and save himself. The rift had stopped spreading, permanently she didn’t know, but enough to let her catch her breath and escape. She looked and saw an endless void of purple and dark, almost invisible islands. She could feel its magical pull, a malicious, dark pull tugging at her soul and she hurried away from it. She stumbled, rushing to get away from it and gazed upon the cliff, relieved to find her kingdom in tact. No castle swarming with any visible evil. The sun shined brightly but Zelda had no time to rest.
Link…
Those rifts could also be a big threat to Hyrule and its citizens. Link was always the one to rescue the kingdom, her, when something struck. Now, perhaps it would be Zelda’s turn to save him. The thought filled her with trepidation as she turned away from the vast landscape of Hyrule. Two knights ran up and greeted her. She hesitated before looking up at them with determination, “Link will save the day, do not be concerned. Head back to the castle please,”
They gave a nod and she gave a nod back to dismiss them. Then she ran around trying to find a way back in. She had seen a glimpse of Ganon’s staff causing the ominous rift and it needed to be stopped, or at least some way to find out what’s happened.
However, it was consumed by void, entirely drenched in the dripping, purple rift. Zelda wouldn’t be able to reenter again, for the moment. Her heart clenched as she realized unless she risked going through the rifts, she wouldn’t see Link for a while. Ducking her head, she treaded through forests to reach the castle.
                        ~~~~~~~~
“Your Majesty!” A knight burst through the door, eyes frantic and Zelda jumped midway through putting her hair up.
“Speak!” Zelda squeaked.
“Many people have reported rifts appearing and taking others inside, along with pieces of land, furniture and items. A witness said they think one of the victims of the rifts was turned to stone upon sinking through it,”
“You mean to tell me they’re just…appearing? And taking in people?”
“Yes, Your Majesty,”
Zelda thought, raising a hand to hold her chin. Turning to stone? She was staring right at Link when he was sinking through the rift and it didn’t look like he was turning to stone. Besides, more rifts in different places was certainly odd. When Ganon’s staff summoned the rift, she saw it spread but for it to spontaneously appear in random places was mysterious. Could that staff be as malevolent to summon them everywhere and not just in front of it? Unless Ganon was never truly defeated and had taken possession of the staff once more, or someone else had used it. “Thank you for informing me,” She settled on, eventually, “I would like you to forget I was ever here. I must leave,”
“Your Majesty…if I may…”
Zelda gave a nod, and the knight spoke louder, “Why must I pretend to forget the present?”
She drew in a deep breath and narrowed her eyes icily at the knight, “I do believe that is out of your business. Do you not have faith in me?”
“Apologies, Majesty,”
With that she sent the knight away and crept down to the castle dungeons. She needed to retrieve something to go on this quest. With quiet footsteps she walked until suddenly she felt strong hands shove her and she stumbled into one of the cells. She looked up sharply and saw the cell door closed, and no one there. She stood up and hurried to the door, pulling as hard as she could on the door but it didn’t budge. A swell of panic and frustration swelled in her heart and she slid to the hard ground. What would Link do?
Her eyes trailed around the cell, it was cold and dry. She turned back around with a sigh, knowing she needed to escape as swiftly as possible.
“C’mon Zelda, you wield the Triforce of Wisdom, surely you can figure something out!”
“Yes, yes…well I—wait…” She turned slowly to the sound of the unfamiliar voice and caught sight of some sort of star with a face, it’s entire being glowing brightly.
She yelped, raising her fists, “Who are you?! Did you push me in here?!”
“No-no, don’t worry! I’m Tri, a fairy!” Tri fluttered in the air frantically.
“Friend or foe?”
“Friend! I’m here to help! You can’t go on a quest without something to defend yourself,”
“Wait, how do you know that?”
Tri blinked, “Well, um…don’t worry about it,”
“I am worrying about it,”
“Nevermind that. You want a way out, right?”
Zelda nodded slowly. The fairy’s smile didn’t change but they glowed brightly, “I’ll help you out, and give you something for your quest!”
“Really?” Zelda asked, eyes beginning to sparkle even through her distrust of the small fairy.
Come to think of it, she’s never seen a fairy that looked as such as Tri. Huh. Tri bounced a little in the air, “Yeah, here you go!”
With a flash of white, a mysterious staff appeared and fell into her hands. She eyed it curiously, sensing powerful magic within. She turned up to the fairy, “What does it do?”
“That’s the Trirod! You’ll understand it more if you use it,”
The fairy pulled out a key—from where Zelda didn’t know—and tossed it to her. She caught  it, fumbling for a moment before turning the key and opening the cell door. It creaked loudly. She winced, stepping through and rushed away to grab the thing she was going to grab. She saw a shelf, with the item in question and beside it a table sparkled with yellow particles. She stepped towards it cautiously. The Trirod seemed to resonate with the table, the staff buzzing slightly in her hands and glowing. She lifted it up at the table and let it draw some of her magic. A burst of light came through and hit the table, igniting. She thought she saw the Trirod make an image of the table and take it inside. Tri flew over to the rod and nudged it, “Go on Zelda! Unleash its power!”
She narrowed her eyes and obliged. Another ignition of light was brought surging forth, and a new table appeared out of thin air. The table was the exact copy of the one she had aimed at before. She blinked, speechless at the wonder that was presented in front of her. Tri laughed gleefully at her confusion, “What do you think?”
Zelda shrugged, “I’m still quite…uncertain shall we say…”
“Here, I’ll explain. The Trirod creates echoes of anything you want to mimic! You just used it to create another copy of the table, and using my energy, you can summon it anywhere you’d like!”
“Your energy?” Zelda felt a little bit concerned, “Wouldn’t that be dangerous tethering that to a staff?”
“Maybe for you Hylians,” Tri soured a little, even though it was quickly gone, “But I can tether it to the staff and it wouldn’t hurt me unless it gets destroyed abruptly. So you have a limit of using the staff unless you want to hurt me by using more energy than I’m willing to provide. You don’t want to do that!”
Zelda grabbed the item she was wanting retrieve before getting distracted by the Trirod, and set out with a new ally…
                      (Maybe even friend?)
                               ~~~~~~~~
It was nightfall.
Zelda had gone out of town, hood covering her face, and royal dress gone, a simple plain one underneath the shadows of the hood. When she walked through town however, everyone recognized her as Link. Her plan had succeeded, and no one seemed to really notice Tri at all. If they did, they never mentioned or showed it. She battled monsters and climbed obstacles with the abilities of the Triforce, being extremely cautious not to overuse Tri’s energy. Now that she thought about it Tri’s name was just half of the word “Triforce”which seemed a little odd to be a coincidence. She kept to herself about it, though.
Through all the journeying it arrived nightfall, and Zelda summoned a bed. She sat down on the sheets of it and gingerly took the cloak off her shoulders. She set it aside and lay down, after Tri offered to take watch, claiming sleep was not something they needed. She shut her eyes, hoping to drift off to sleep.
It never came.
The worry for Link, and her people and the constant fear of getting ambushed by any monsters erased any wink of sleep. She tossed and turned until something soft was thrown into her arms. Tri dimmed the glow radiating off their body and poked at the warm fabric. Zelda recognized it as Link’s cloak, “Is there anyone coming?” She whispered.
“No, but you look like you weren’t getting any rest so I thought maybe this would help,” Tri hummed, “Don’t worry, Link is capable, right? I’m sure wherever he is, he’ll be alright,”
Zelda’s eyes welled with something wet and she tried to blink it away. She nodded wordlessly and clutched the fabric in her arms. She closed her eyes, the same wet and warm liquid streaming down her face even though she had closed them. The cloak reeked of Link,  and she so badly missed him.
The last thing she heard was a soft rustle of fabric, and a small, soft hum before she drifted, entering a miraculously dreamless sleep.
