Another update. About 75% of the way through and I seriously can’t believe anyone considers this a feminist text. I’ve truly gone in with an open mind and I know not to expect anything radical from classical books but seriously all this book does is re-enforce gender norms of the time! It does not remotely challenge them. But what about Jo? You ask. Every time she steps outside the bounds of what was acceptable she is reprimanded and vows to be ‘better’, her entire story thus far is her learning to be the perfect women (🤮), that’s the story of all the March sisters. There are so many lines from the narrator that just make me cringe and so many times where the sisters seem like they’re getting close to some kind of personal independence only to drop it the moment it bothers one of the men in their lives. Sorry for the rant. Glad I’m almost done with this book, can’t think of anyone I’d recommend it to. Also I just can’t shake the feeling like Louisa May Alcott would be a Trump supporter.

Little Women

Did anyone else find it really hard to read Little Women? I’m 25% of the way in (chapter 12, they’ve rowed out to camp Laurence, had lunch and are telling a story) and nothing has happened yet! There’s no plot, I just feel like I’m looking through a window at the March sisters day to day lives and not seeing anything particularly interesting happening. Does it get better? Does the pace at least pick up a bit? Lots of meaningless chapters so far that add nothing to the story (if there even is a story here?)

Whenever I scroll down a tumblr tag for a specific character I find tons of good art for them so I screenshot it and save it for reference, it just occurred to me that I have saved 50 Simon fanart photos into my album and it would look mighty suspicious
