Embryo Preservation
Embryo preservation involves the freezing and storage of embryos for use in future in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. Embryo cryopreservation is also common for fertility preservation. Embryo freezing allows people to store embryos for later use.
Why we require embryo preservation?
They may want a backup plan to their original IVF procedure if they don’t initially conceive
They want to attempt pregnancy in the future because of career or financial planning.
They are going for any serious medical treatment which can affect their fertility.
Steps of Embryo Preservation
  Retrieval of egg and sperm
Fertilization in the lab develop the embryo
  Freezing the embryos
Embryos are then immersed in liquid nitrogen.
The embryos are rapidly frozen and kept at very low temperatures (-196oC) until use.
Frozen embryos can be stored for an indefinite period of time.
Embryo cryopreservation is particularly efficient when the embryos are growing well. The survival rate of the embryo is 75%. However, not every embryo is good for cryopreservation. The success of the procedure is ultimately bounded to the embryo selection before freezing. Research shows that there is no risk of birth defects among children born from frozen embryos compared with normal births.
