BCCI’s Lollipop to the IOC - Turning Cricket into a Global Sport
Tumblr media
Cricket, a sport with a staggering fan base of 2.5 billion people worldwide (According to Sport Pledge) is making significant strides towards Olympic inclusion. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been actively pushing for cricket's inclusion in the Olympic Games, with the ambition to debut at the LA28 Games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), led by Jay Shah, has played a pivotal role in this endeavor. The Sportwiz explores the journey of cricket towards becoming a global sport, driven by the aspirations of the ICC and the strategic efforts of the BCCI.

Cricket has been making notable appearances in various multi-sport events, such as the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 and the Asian Games in 2010, 2014, and the upcoming 2023 edition in Hangzhou, Even this years African Games hosted in Ghana will consist of cricket where it will be played in the T20 format. These inclusions highlight the growing recognition and acceptance of cricket as a global sport.

The question arises: Does the Olympics need cricket, or does cricket need the Olympics? Cricket's immense popularity, with a fan base of 2.5 billion people and its status as the second most-watched sport globally, demonstrates the sport's strength and appeal. However, Olympic inclusion would provide an unparalleled platform for cricket to reach new audiences and further boost its global recognition.

The ICC's bid for Olympic inclusion emphasized the massive viewership cricket attracts. The 2022 T20 World Cup garnered a staggering 1.2 billion unique viewers globally. Additionally, the 2020 Women's World Cup saw 89 million viewers tuning in, showcasing the increasing popularity of women's cricket. These statistics exemplify cricket's potential as a major draw for broadcasters, sponsors, and fans alike.
India's significance as a cricket powerhouse cannot be overlooked. The country accounts for a substantial portion of cricket's global viewership, with 76% of the 113.5 million viewing hours recorded during major tournaments coming from India. The BCCI, backed by India's massive cricket market, has offered the International Olympic Committee (IOC) a chance to tap into this unique viewership, potentially elevating the Olympic Games' viewership in the Indian subcontinent.

The BCCI's main revenue stream, broadcasting rights, presents a compelling proposition for the IOC. Currently held by JIO and Viacom 18 for $31 million, these rights contribute to the ongoing profits of the Olympics. If cricket is included in the Olympics, the ICC estimates potential revenue of $130-260 million. These figures highlight the financial gains that could be achieved through cricket's Olympic participation.
The number $31 million USD is larger than the previous years in terms of Olympics in India but if we compare it to a similar number showcasing the money that’s involved in cricket, in the next financial cycle of the BCCI the Pakistan Cricket board ( PCB ) who hold a share of 5.75% is approximately valued at $34.5 million USD.

Cricket's economic value has witnessed a remarkable surge, as evidenced by the 300% increase in media rights value for ICC and IPL. The media rights for ICC and IPL soared from ₹16,347 crores to a staggering ₹48,390 crores. This exponential growth further solidifies cricket's position as a lucrative sporting asset.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) now ranked as the second most valued sporting league globally, cricket's future looks promising. The IPL's substantial viewership of 380 million domestic TV viewers in the 2021 season and cumulative viewership of 383 billion minutes for the 2020 campaign across TV and digital platforms indicate cricket's enormous potential according to Jay Shah. As cricket continues to captivate audiences, its inclusion in the Olympics could propel the sport to new heights.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The bid to include cricket in the Olympics is anticipated to be decided in the final session of the IOC, scheduled to take place in Mumbai in October. Brisbane 2032 Olympics presents a realistic opportunity for cricket's inclusion, given Australia's cricketing heritage. Surprisingly, Los Angeles may also be a potential host, thanks to the approval of the bid by former Mayor Eric Garcetti, now the US Ambassador to India, fostering stronger relations between India and the USA.

Cricket's journey towards becoming a global sport is gaining momentum, with the ICC and BCCI leading the way. The sport's immense viewership, economic value, and potential for growth make it an attractive addition to the Olympic Games. As the IOC contemplates cricket's inclusion, the world awaits a decision that could redefine the sport and pave the way for a future where cricket becomes truly global.

Sanjeev Goenka credited Gautam Gambhir for assembling the LSG team in just 2 weeks, calling it "Gautam Gambhir's Team".
Gautam Gambhir had joined LSG’s support staff in December 2021, and worked with the franchise in its first two seasons in the IPL. LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka credited Gautam Gambhir for building the team from scratch Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year, beating SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final. Not KKR, Rahul Dravid Set To Seal His IPL Return With This Franchise
After successfully guiding the Indian team to T20 World Cup 2024 triumph as head coach, Rahul Dravid is reportedly gearing up for a new adventure in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since his tenure as the head coach of the Indian team came to an end, Dravid has been linked with multiple franchises in the T20 league. Earlier, reports suggested that the batting great could decide to join Kolkata Knight Riders, especially as the franchise saw their mentor Gautam Gambhir leave the team to fill the void left by Dravid in the Indian team as head coach. But, it has now been reported that Dravid is in talks with his former IPL side Rajasthan Royals.
Tumblr media
"Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner," Times of India quoted a source as saying.
As Dravid hunts for a new adventure, Gambhir has begun his stint as the Indian team's head coach. He flew to Sri Lanka with the other members of the Indian team ahead of the white-ball assignment. Before the team's departure, Gambhir did admit he has some big shoes to fill, considering what Dravid has done with the Indian team as head coach.
As India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title, beating South Africa in the final, Dravid did joke about being 'jobless' from the next month, and asked reporters if they had any offers. A man of the talent of Dravid, and the gold-worthy experience in Indian cricket, franchises are understandably lining up to rope him into the team.
Dravid didn't want to continue as the Indian team's head coach as he didn't want to spend 10 months a year travelling, keeping himself away from the family. But, the Indian Premier League is different. In the T20 league, Dravid only needs to be with the franchise for 2-3 months a year, a prospect he could fancy.
The former India captain has worked as a mentor and coach with IPL franchises in the past. Dravid was the coach of Delhi Daredevils franchise before leaving the job in 2017 over 'conflict of interest'. Since ending his IPL career, Dravid has worked as the coach of India's junior teams, including Under-19 and India A.
He was most recently working as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before taking up the India job in 2021.
Now linked with the Rajasthan Royals, it would be interesting to see on what capacity would the former India head coach work with the franchise.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: A Journey Through the IPL Seasons
Tumblr media
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Known for their passionate fan base, star-studded line-ups, and thrilling performances, RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons has been a rollercoaster ride filled with highs and lows. Here’s a comprehensive look at RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons.
Stay updated on the RCB Team Players List for the IPL, with detailed squad information and the playing schedule, in our extensive guide RCB Team Players List.
2008: The Inaugural Season
RCB had a rocky start in the inaugural IPL season. Despite having legendary players like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, and Jacques Kallis, they finished seventh in the eight-team tournament. The team struggled to find the right balance and consistency, winning only four out of 14 matches.
2009: Runners-Up
Under the captaincy of Anil Kumble, RCB made a remarkable turnaround in the 2009 season, which was held in South Africa due to the general elections in India. The team finished third in the league stage and reached the final, losing to Deccan Chargers by six runs. Ross Taylor and Manish Pandey were among the standout performers.
2010: Semi-Finalists
RCB continued their strong performance in 2010, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the semi-finals but were defeated by the Mumbai Indians. The season saw Virat Kohli emerge as a key player for the team alongside star performers like Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa.
2011: Finalists
The 2011 season was another strong showing for RCB. Led by Daniel Vettori, and with the explosive Chris Gayle joining the squad, they finished top of the league table. Gayle’s incredible batting, including his 175* against Pune Warriors, was a highlight. However, they fell short in the final against Chennai Super Kings.
2012-2013: Struggles and Near Misses
The next two seasons were disappointing for RCB. In 2012, they finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Chris Gayle continued to dominate with the bat, but the team’s inconsistency cost them. In 2013, despite another strong showing from Gayle and Kohli, they finished fifth again.
2014: A Season of Change
The 2014 season saw a major overhaul in the squad and support staff. Despite high expectations, RCB finished seventh. Kohli and AB de Villiers showed flashes of brilliance, but the team struggled to find momentum.
2015: A Return to Form
In 2015, RCB returned to form, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the second qualifier but were knocked out by Chennai Super Kings. Kohli, de Villiers, and Gayle formed a formidable batting trio, and Mitchell Starc’s bowling strengthened the team.
2016: Heartbreak in the Final
The 2016 season is one of the most memorable for RCB fans. Virat Kohli had a record-breaking season, scoring 973 runs, including four centuries. RCB finished second in the league stage and made it to the final, where they were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring thriller.
2017-2019: A Period of Struggle
The subsequent seasons were tough for RCB. In 2017, they finished last, managing only three wins. The 2018 season saw some improvement, but they still finished sixth. The 2019 season was another disappointment, with RCB finishing at the bottom of the table again. Despite having star players, the team struggled with consistency and balance.
2020: Return to Playoffs
The 2020 season, held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw RCB making a comeback. They finished fourth in the league stage, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, they were eliminated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. Kohli, de Villiers, and young talent Devdutt Padikkal were standout performers.
2021: Consistent Performance
RCB had a strong 2021 season, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the Eliminator but were knocked out by Kolkata Knight Riders. The season saw the emergence of Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker. Glenn Maxwell also made a significant impact with his all-round performances.
2022: Playoffs Again
In 2022, RCB continued their consistent run, finishing fourth in the league stage. They reached the second qualifier but were eliminated by Rajasthan Royals. Faf du Plessis joined the team and made significant contributions, adding depth to the batting line-up alongside Kohli and de Villiers.
2023: Building for the Future
The 2023 season saw RCB focusing on building a strong core of young players while retaining their experienced stars. They finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. The season highlighted the potential of new talents like Rajat Patidar and Shahbaz Ahmed, showing promise for the future.
2024: The Quest for the Title
In the 2024 season, RCB aims to build on its recent performances and make a strong bid for the IPL title. With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, the team has shown a renewed sense of determination and focus. Key players like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and young talents are expected to play crucial roles. Fans are hopeful that RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title will finally come to fruition this year.
Conclusion
The journey of Royal Challengers Bangalore through the IPL seasons has been a mix of exhilarating highs and frustrating lows. Despite not having won the IPL title yet, RCB remains one of the most beloved franchises, known for their passionate fans and star-studded line-ups. With a strong core of players and a focus on building for the future, RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title continues, keeping their fans hopeful and excited for future seasons.

"Love To Look At Things In Positive Manner": Sanju Samson Ahead Of ICC T20 WC 2024 Opener
Ahead of their opener against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said that he positively looks at things while reflecting on failures and successes in his career.
Samson, who made his international debut in 2014 in a T20I match, has had ups and downs, having played just 25 T20Is and 16 ODIs for India over the last decade.
His T20 stats have been disappointing as he has scored just 374 runs at an average of 18.70 with one half-century. a strike rate of 133.09 and the best score of 77.
Samson has made his way into the T20 WC squad after a career-best Indian Premier League (IPL) which helped take Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the playoffs. He scored 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46, with five half-centuries. His best score was 86*.
The Kerala-born cricketer asserted that at the time when a cricketer is young and successful, he tries to skip a few lessons.
"I love to look at things in a more positive manner. If it's a failure or setback, you learn through it. When you are young and successful, you skip a few lessons. I am blessed with my talent, which comes naturally to me as a batter" Samson said in a video posted by BCCI.
The 29-year-old further stated that right from the moment he arrived in the United States, he had taken out all the things regarding Indian Premier which is in his mind.
"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been away from my mind. I tell myself that I am somewhere where people dream of going. Then I was like, what else do I need to do? Mentally I did not have to motivate myself. Things happen automatically. When you meet Rohit and Virat, you get inspired and there is no looking back. How can Sanju help India win more games, what it is like to be a WC player for India? I am very grateful for the support wherever I go," the wicketkeeper added.
In the end, Samson said that he loves to change and adapt according to the conditions.
"The biggest lesson as a cricketer and human is that the change is constant. You cannot say that this is the only way to play. I love to change and adapt as per conditions. You can't be the same Sanju Samson," the right-hand batter concluded.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. India will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.

Usman Khawaja Backs Glenn Maxwell for T20 World Cup Impact Despite IPL Form
Despite Glenn Maxwell’s recent struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja is confident in Maxwell’s ability to shine in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Khawaja believes Maxwell’s form in the IPL is irrelevant when it comes to his performance for the national team.
Tumblr media
IPL Form Doesn’t Matter
In a conversation with the West Australian, Khawaja emphasized Maxwell’s proven track record: “The IPL form is absolutely irrelevant. Maxy’s proven himself time and time again. Any player who’s performed over a long period understands that you can’t perform well every time you go out there.”
Khawaja pointed out that T20 cricket, especially for middle-order batsmen, is challenging and that Maxwell just needs one good innings to regain his confidence: “If he gets one good innings, he’s away. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past. He’s not going to change his game and nor should he. Just keep going. He’ll find it.”
Maxwell’s IPL Performance
Maxwell had a tough IPL season, averaging only 5.77 from nine innings and scoring just 52 runs in 10 matches. His team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, was eliminated by the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, with Maxwell scoring a duck in that crucial game.
Players on a Break
Currently, Maxwell is on a break along with Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green after the grueling IPL schedule. These players are set to join the national team for the T20 World Cup.
Australian Team Preparations
In preparation for the T20 World Cup, the Australian team had to improvise during a warm-up match against Namibia due to the absence of key players. Selection chief George Bailey and fielding coach Andre Borovec stepped in to help, along with batting coach Brad Hodge and head coach Andrew McDonald.
Despite these challenges, the Australian team, the 2021 T20 World Cup champions, showcased their strength by chasing down Namibia’s total of 119/9 with 10 overs remaining, thanks to a quickfire half-century from David Warner (54*).
Upcoming Matches
Australia’s next warm-up match is against the West Indies on May 31. The team will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 6 against Oman, followed by matches against archrivals England on June 9, Namibia on June 12, and Scotland to finish the group stage.

With the rise of streaming platforms, more and more fans are now watching the IPL online. According to a recent report by Synchronize India and Unomer, Jio Cinema has emerged as the most popular platform for watching IPL 2023, with 73% of viewers tuning in on the platform. Jio Cinema's popularity can be attributed to several factors. One of the key factors is the platform's vast content library, which includes a wide range of movies, TV shows, and other video content. Jio Cinema has also been able to secure exclusive rights to several popular movies and TV shows, which has helped to attract more users to the platform. JioCinema, the streaming service owned by Reliance Jio, has rapidly evolved since its inception, becoming a significant player in India's digital entertainment landscape. Here is a brief history of JioCinema:
History of Jio Cinema
Tumblr media
JIO-CENEMA Inception and Launch (2016) JioCinema was launched in September 2016 by Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). The launch was part of a broader strategy to offer digital content as an incentive for subscribers to adopt Jio's 4G network, which was also launched around the same time. JioCinema was introduced as a video-on-demand service, offering a wide range of movies, TV shows, music videos, and trailers across various genres and languages. Initial Growth and Content Expansion (2016-2018) In its early stages, JioCinema focused on building a substantial content library. The platform secured licensing agreements with major Indian production houses and studios, enabling it to offer a diverse array of Bollywood and regional films. The content library quickly expanded to include TV shows, music videos, and educational content. The app's user interface was designed to be user-friendly, with features like voice search, recommendations, and offline viewing. Strategic Partnerships and Exclusive Content (2019-2020) To enhance its content offering, JioCinema entered into strategic partnerships with several global and local content providers. These collaborations allowed the platform to stream exclusive content, including popular TV series and movies. During this period, JioCinema also began to invest in original content, recognizing the growing demand for unique and exclusive programming. The service started producing web series and short films tailored to Indian audiences. Merger with JioTV and Integration into Jio Platforms (2020-2021) In a significant move to consolidate its digital services, Jio integrated JioCinema with JioTV, another popular streaming service under its umbrella. This merger allowed users to access live TV channels along with on-demand content through a single platform. Additionally, JioCinema became a part of Jio Platforms Limited, the digital arm of Reliance Industries, which attracted substantial investments from global technology giants and investment firms. This integration aimed to create a comprehensive digital ecosystem, enhancing user experience and expanding the service's reach. Technological Advancements and Enhanced User Experience (2021-2023) JioCinema continued to innovate by leveraging advanced technologies to improve user experience. The platform introduced features such as personalized recommendations, adaptive streaming, and multi-device support. JioCinema's app became available on various devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and web browsers. The service also incorporated artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer a more personalized and engaging viewing experience. Expanding Footprint and Future Prospects (2023-Present) As of 2023, JioCinema has established itself as one of India's leading streaming platforms, competing with other major players in the market. The platform continues to expand its content library by securing new partnerships and investing in original productions. JioCinema's parent company, Reliance Jio, aims to leverage its extensive network infrastructure and technological expertise to further enhance the service's capabilities and reach. JioCinema's journey from a supplementary service to a major digital entertainment platform reflects the broader transformation of the Indian media landscape, driven by the proliferation of affordable high-speed internet and the growing demand for on-demand content. With continuous innovation and strategic investments, JioCinema is well-positioned to shape the future of digital entertainment in India. FUTURE OF JIO CENEMA JioCinema's future looks interesting, with potential for growth based on a few key factors: - Disruptive Pricing: JioCinema's ultra-low priced subscriptions (starting at ₹29 per month) aim to attract a large user base, especially in a price-sensitive market like India. This could significantly expand the Indian OTT viewership. - Content Strategy: The success of this strategy hinges on their content library. They need to offer strong regional content alongside their existing Hollywood tie-ups to compete with established players. - Jio Leverage: JioCinema's advantage lies in its association with Jio, a major telecom provider in India. This gives them a built-in distribution network and potential for bundling subscriptions with Jio plans, attracting more users. Here are some possible scenarios for JioCinema's future: - Dominant Player: JioCinema's aggressive pricing and Jio's reach could lead them to become a major player in the Indian OTT market, potentially forcing competitors to adapt their pricing strategies. - Focus on Volume: JioCinema might prioritize subscriber numbers over premium content, creating a platform for a wider audience seeking a large library at a low cost. - Content Makes the King: If JioCinema curates a strong content library with a focus on regional languages and originals, they could attract premium viewers seeking high-quality entertainment. Overall, JioCinema's future depends on how effectively they balance their pricing strategy with content acquisition and user experience. They have the potential to become a major force in the Indian OTT landscape. User Experience One of the key factors that have contributed to the popularity of Jio Cinema is its user experience. The platform has a simple and intuitive interface that makes it easy for users to find the content they are looking for. The app also allows users to download content for offline viewing, which is particularly useful in areas with poor internet connectivity. Content Library Jio Cinema offers a vast content library that includes movies, TV shows, and short films. The platform has a strong focus on Indian content and offers a wide range of movies and TV shows in multiple languages. The content library is regularly updated with new releases, and Jio Cinema often acquires exclusive rights to popular movies and TV shows. Quality of Streaming Jio Cinema offers high-quality streaming that is optimized for low-bandwidth connections. The platform uses a proprietary technology called Adaptive Bitrate Streaming that adjusts the streaming quality based on the user's internet connection. This ensures that users can enjoy a seamless streaming experience even with slow internet speeds. Pricing One of the most significant advantages of Jio Cinema is its pricing. The platform is available for free to Jio subscribers, and there are no additional charges for accessing the content library. This makes Jio Cinema an affordable option for users who want to enjoy high-quality video content without breaking the bank. Competitive Landscape The Indian streaming market is highly competitive, with several players vying for a share of the market. Some of the key players in the market include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar. However, Jio Cinema has been able to carve out a niche for itself by offering a unique value proposition that is tailored to the needs of Indian consumers. Read the full article

The IPL: Where Cricket Meets Big Business
Tumblr media
The Indian Premier League (IPL), a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India, has become one of the most popular sporting events in the world. With its razzmatazz, glamour, and big business, the IPL has been able to create a loyal fan following across the globe. After being postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IPL is back in 2023 with a bang, with rivalries and more business opportunities than ever before.
The IPL was first introduced in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Since then, it has grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the biggest events in the cricketing world. In its first season, the league consisted of eight teams representing different cities in India, each owned by a franchise. Over the years, the league has expanded to include ten teams, with two new teams, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, joining in 2022.
The IPL has been successful not just because of its cricketing excellence but also due to its unique business model. The league is based on the franchise system, where each team is owned by a private company or individual. The franchisees invest heavily in their teams, buying players, and creating an atmosphere of glitz and glamour around the league. The league has become a massive money-spinner, with teams earning millions of dollars in sponsorship and advertising revenue.
The IPL is not just about cricket. It is also a platform for big business. With a huge fan following across the world, the IPL provides companies with an opportunity to advertise their products to a vast audience. From team sponsorships to television advertising, the IPL offers a range of opportunities for businesses to promote their brands. According to a report by Duff & Phelps, a global valuation and corporate finance advisor, the Indian Premier League (IPL), has recorded a 77% increase in system value to US$8.4 billion. With media rights sold for over INR 48,000 Crores (US$6.5 billion), the central pool of IPL revenues has increased more than 2.5 times for the 2023 to 2027 cycle.
The rivalry between teams in the IPL is another factor that makes the league so exciting. Each team represents a different city in India, and the players are selected from across the globe. This creates a unique mix of talent, culture, and identity that fans can relate to. The players are not just playing for their teams; they are representing the cities they come from. The rivalry between teams is not just about winning matches; it is also about representing their cities with pride.
The IPL has also created a platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent. The league has given many young players a chance to play alongside some of the biggest names in cricket. Blunt Verdict of Mohammed Shami On Hardik Pandya Leaving Gujarat Titans Ahead Of The IPL 2024
The news of Hardik Pandya rejoining the Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 season caused ripples in the cricket community. Hardik was the captain of GT in the past two seasons, and on both occasions, he led them to the final.

The franchise won their maiden title in 2021, and the next year, they finished runners-up after losing to the Chennai Super Kings in the final. Before the new season began, Pandya made an unexpected trade to his old side, MI, and Mohammed Shami, an Indian fast bowler, had a definite opinion on the event.
In an interview, Mohammed Shami was asked about the whole 'chapter' with Hardik Pandya, no longer the GT captain.
Shami said, “See, it doesn't matter who is leaving. You have to see the team's balance. Hardik was there; he captured us well. Both times he led us to the championship game, and we emerged victorious.  But Gujarat hadn't signed Hardik for a lifetime. It's his decision to stay or leave. Shubman is made captain now, and he will also gain experience. Some day, he might also leave. And it's part of the game. Players come and go.”
"As a captain, you have to manage the responsibility and focus on your performance," he continued. This time, that responsibility has been assigned to Shubman. He might have some load on his mind, but the players are more or less the same. So he doesn't need to worry. You need to manage players well and extract the best out of them.”

Rishabh Pant Enjoys First Nets Session In Indian jersey After 16 Months, Gears Up For T20 WC
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had his first nets session for Team India after at least 16 months, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup opener against Ireland, scheduled for June 5.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29. The Men in Blue will also play Bangladesh in their only warm-up game on June 1 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Pant, who returned to competitive cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year following a life-threatening road accident in December 2022, will be making his much-awaited return to the blue colours of the Indian jersey.
In the recently concluded IPL 2024, Rishabh's team Delhi Capitals finished in the sixth spot with seven wins, seven losses and 14 points and failed to move to playoffs. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155 with three half-centuries and emerged as the team's top run-getter.
Pant looked in great shape while practicing, having lost a lot of weight, and sported a much leaner look ahead of the tournament.
In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant said, "This is one thing I missed a lot (practicing with the Indian team and playing for them). Getting back on the field with the Indian jersey on, it is a different feel altogether and this is something I missed a lot. I think seeing the teammates and meeting them again, spending time, having fun with them, enjoying having conversations, really enjoying it."
Pant said that playing in the USA is a different prospect and it has opened a whole new channel for the sport.
"We are used to playing in certain countries but this is a different prospect. It has opened up a different channel for sport because I feel cricket is growing around the world and getting in a country like the US and getting the exposure here would be nice for cricket as well as USA cricket I guess," he said.
He said he is getting used to the conditions and the sun shines a little brighter here in the US and there are new pitches.
"So just getting used to conditions over here and let us see how it goes. Hopefully, I make it count and make it more better from here," he concluded.
In seven T20 WC matches and five innings, he has scored 87 runs at an average of 21.75 across 2021 and 2022 editions, with the best score of 39.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Meanwhile, the most-awaited blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. They will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
India will be aiming to win their first T20 WC title since they won the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 2007 in South Africa. In the last edition held in Australia in 2022, India lost to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.
India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj
