Heavy rain leads to waterlogging in Delhi-NCR 2 injured in wall collapse
Parts of Delhi-NCR received heavy to moderate rainfall for the second successive day, causing waterlogging and massive traffic jams on Saturday. In Dwarka, two people sustained injuries due to the collapse of a wall of a school after a tree fell on it, PTI reported. Police said a tree got uprooted amid heavy rain in Dwarka’s Baba Haridas Nagar, and it fell on the wall of an MCD school, causing it to collapse. The two men, who were taking shelter, got trapped under the tree and the debris. They were rescued by locals and rushed to a hospital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had sounded an orange alert for many parts of Delhi-NCR, predicting light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty wind (30-40 km/hour). Waterlogging was reported in several places in East Delhi, South East Delhi and Central Delhi. In an advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police said traffic was affected on Rohtak Road and vehicles were being diverted. “Traffic is affected on Rohtak Road on the carriageway from Nangloi towards Tikri Border due to potholes and water logging. Kindly avoid Mundka and take an alternate route accordingly,” it posted on X. The Lodhi Road observatory recorded 12 mm rainfall from 11.30 pm on Friday till 2.30 am on Saturday, the IMD said. The incessant rainfall brought Delhi’s minimum temperature down to 25.8 degree Celsius – 1.2 degrees below the season’s average. Mumbai Monsoon Mayhem: Trains Cancelled, BEST Buses Diverted Amid Waterlogging; Schools Declared Holiday
Heavy monsoon rains have lashed Mumbai, leading to significant disruptions across the city. Persistent downpours since early Monday have resulted in extensive waterlogging, causing authorities to cancel trains, divert BEST buses, and declare a holiday for schools.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Mumbai, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. True to the forecast, several areas, including Sion, Dadar, Andheri, and Kurla, witnessed inundation. The relentless rains have brought Mumbai to a near standstill, reminiscent of the infamous July 2005 deluge.
Transport Woes
The waterlogged tracks forced the cancellation and delay of several local trains, the lifeline for millions of Mumbaikars. The Central Railway and Western Railway services were particularly affected, with many trains running significantly behind schedule or being halted altogether. Commuters stranded at various stations expressed frustration, with many unable to reach their workplaces or return home.
BEST buses, another critical mode of transport, faced severe disruptions. Multiple routes had to be diverted due to waterlogged streets, leaving commuters to find alternative means of transportation. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) officials stated that they were closely monitoring the situation and making adjustments to routes as necessary to ensure passenger safety.
Schools Closed
In a move to ensure the safety of children, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all schools in Mumbai. The decision was taken early in the morning, following reports of severe waterlogging in several parts of the city. Parents were notified through various channels, including SMS, emails, and social media, advising them to keep their children at home.
Rescue and Relief Operations
The BMC, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has been actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. Pumping stations across the city have been operating at full capacity to reduce water levels in the most affected areas. However, continuous rainfall has hampered these efforts. The BMC has also set up emergency helplines and urged residents to avoid non-essential travel.
Public Advisory
Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and refrain from venturing out unless absolutely necessary. The IMD has forecasted that heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue over the next 24 hours. Citizens are urged to stay updated through official channels and avoid spreading or reacting to unverified information on social media.
Looking Ahead
As Mumbai grapples with the current situation, there is a growing call for better infrastructure and more robust measures to handle such extreme weather events. While the city's resilience is well-known, the frequent disruptions caused by monsoon rains highlight the need for long-term solutions to ensure smoother functioning during the rainy season.
In the meantime, Mumbaikars are bracing for more rains, hoping for a quick return to normalcy as the city battles yet another monsoon fury. For more latest news India, subscribe to our newsletter today.

Rains continue to lash several parts of Kerala; many schools shut, hundreds displaced
In dams other than Malankara Dam in Idukki, the water levels showed a "falling trend", indicating a drop in rainfall intensity as was predicted a day ago by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Tumblr media
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains continued to lash several parts of Kerala on Thursday, affecting normal life as schools declared a holiday in many districts and hundreds were displaced from their homes, which were damaged by uprooted trees or flooded by rising river water, forcing them to take shelter in the relief camps.
The continuous rains since the previous night damaged hundreds of homes in various districts of the state.
The shutters of some dams, like Malankara Dam in Idukki district, were opened to release water downstream, following heavy rains in their catchment area.
However, in several other dams, the water levels showed a “falling trend”, indicating a drop in rainfall intensity as was predicted a day ago by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD had also issued Orange alert in six districts of the state for Thursday.
Incessant heavy rainfall across Kerala over the last few days affected normal life as roads got flooded, water levels rose in rivers and dams, homes were damaged by uprooted trees and a furious sea displaced many in the coastal areas.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a Facebook post, had said on Wednesday that a total of 47 camps are functioning in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts and 879 persons have been shifted there.
The Chief Minister also said that as the heavy rains continue, there are possibilities of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas and therefore, the public and government agencies should be vigilant and cautious.
A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rains of over 20 cm in 24 hours, while an orange alert means very heavy rains of 6 cm to 20 cm of rain.
