some of y’all might’ve noticed that like 90% of the shit i reblog lately is tagged just “#tag later” and this is bc my new job has me working three 12hr overnight shifts a week and this leaves me too exhausted to tag things correctly. i started doing this back in like october-november when i was working AND going to school and was basically doing 52 hrs of work a week and i started tagging the wrong characters and shit and ppl would point it out and i was like aw FUCK. so i started tagging shit “tag later” with the idea that when i stopped having to do these hellish 52hr weeks i’d be less exhausted and i could go through that tag and fix everything. however with my new job there isn’t rlly an end in sight, this is just my life now (and fwiw i rlly like it even if my tagging game is slipping, i love my job). i’ve been tagging stuff “tag later” pretty consistently and i’m starting to think that maybe Employed Jess just can’t keep up w the combo of 1. Having A Full Time Job, 2. my insane tagging system, and 3. my obsessive need to see Every Single Post On My Dashboard. so my options are:

give up on the tagging system altogether (genuinely can’t imagine doing this. reblogging stuff with no way to sort it into categories??? the fuck?????? that’s fucking insane to me. i think i’d get so anxious abt my blog being an infinite unsortable jumble of ofmd posts that i’d delete my whole blog in a panic one night)

simplify the tagging system somewhat (somewhat more doable but also the difference between my old tagging system and my new tagging system on different posts would still drive me fucking insane)

try to get over my anxiety about Seeing Every Single Post and just focus on actually tagging things correctly when i go to reblog them (this one is fun bc if i actually manage to conquer this neurosis then i can finally follow back the dozens of rlly cool ofmd blogs that im only not following bc i’m weird abt how i use tumblr. however i think what would be more likely to happen is i would follow everyone and then still be anal abt seeing every post, but now my dash would be functionally infinite and then i’d be wasting even more time scrolling on tumblr trying to catch up on my dashboard during work or when i’m supposed to be sleeping. and then i’d have to unfollow ppl to stop my life from falling into chaos and i’d feel rlly bad)

seriously limit my time on tumblr just in general and try to focus more on other hobbies in my free time (dgmw there would still be a lot of ofmd in my life i’d just be doing more, like, catching up on fics i’ve been meaning to read or something. maybe even writing more of my own fics??? that sounds fake to me but who knows)

just keep doing what i’m doing and maybe i’ll get better at the whole “work life balance” thing and i’ll be less exhausted all the time and i’ll finally be able to catch up on tagging everything

i think it’s generally okay, yeah. 

i have to admit, sometimes i feel weird when bi people call themselves gay bc i feel like it reduces the meaning of the word when gay people call themselves gay. but when i catch myself cringing about something as small as that, i look at my own biases and try to remember that people have been using “gay” as an umbrella term for longer than i’ve been alive. the important part about being gay is being same gender attracted, not being not attracted to other genders (if you’ll pardon the double negative). 

i’m working really hard to reaffirm rather than distance, so… yeah, i have no problem with bi ppl calling themselves homosexuals. when cishets use that word, it’s coming from a place of hate or at the very least a place of distance. they have the distance from our identities and experiences to be able to other us with that word. if you’re bi you don’t have that distance because you also experience “homosexual” attraction. that word can be used against you too. 

there are people in the lgbtq community i wouldn’t want to use that word. depending on the person, i probably wouldn’t give a pass to a straight trans person unless they had a personal and complex history with that word and their using it was somehow helpful to them processing their trauma. in general, anyone who doesn’t experience same-gender attraction doesn’t have any license to use the word “homosexual” or “homo.” cishet aces/aros or aroaces can’t reclaim the word or use it to describe them. 

tl;dr imo if you’re same-gender attracted you can use the word homosexual; if you’re not same-gender attracted you can’t.

Your cats are really cute!! I only sent a message because I've been down that pipeline before and it's a hard time crawling back out. Humans weren't meant to know what was happening with strangers hundreds of miles away from them, and it can become overwhelming to have to care about a new issue everyday. like, don't think that im devoting hours of my time, furiously hunting down every single person with a few check marks, because i really, really am not.

i started the list as a petty joke kind of thing to poke fun at people that i felt were stupid at best and willfully callous at worst, bc i saw a bunch of check marks on my dash at the time.

then when it got reblogged, i just kept doing it, occasionally following a little list of check marks and being astounded at the amount of money people were pouring down the drain when they could have spent it in a way that didn't contribute to a website with a rep for censoring marginalized people.

people started tagging it as a block list and asked for transcripts, so i keep adding to it from time to time.

a lot of people don't want to associate with those willing to give money to the site over this sort of thing. and when a lot of people use mobile can't actually SEE the checkmarks, someone keeping a list of those that they happen to come across is useful.

and, yeah, a few times ive genuinely got pissed off, bc the people defending it just refuse to get what me and others are saying - that this is a skeevy and opportunistic move by tumblr and is just another nasty monetization tactic off the back of repeated PR fuck ups and gross mismoderation of the website. and then they also try and act high and mighty and talk down to us.

Chloe’s head hangs heavy on Mari’s shoulder as the pressurised air surrounding them vibrates with the sounds… of well… a plane. Chloe had a tough couple weeks; late night combat practises with the new team (LB, Hornet, Viperion and Ryuuko) has obviously taken a toll on her partner. Both wrapped in a thick velvet blanket that Chloe remembered to pack (thank kwami) sharing a pair of headphones, both were lulled into a peaceful slumber.

Alya laughs as Lila tips her small glass of diet coke (that a flight attendant painstakingly poured for her) on a sleeping Marinette’s side of Chloe’s blanket, effectively waking her up. “Oopsies! Sorry Marinette! You see, the cabin air has really been worsening my arthritis. I didn’t mean it! I swear! Cross my heart!” apologized Lila with fake concern as Alya giggles beside her. 

Marinette, literally seeing Lila’s crossed figures behind her back says “At least Chloe is still sleeping, she needs the rest.” Alya, Lila and her empty cup saunter beck to their seats nearby.

Mari and her class finally land in Gotham’s cold December night. Freshly hushed into a private shuttle, the class are driven to their hotel. It is late: around 3:30 AM. With heavy eyelids the class gazed out the bus’s windows in awe. The merging view of traffic and Christmas lights chase them to their residence. No one really remembers or knows what happened that night. Just the feeling of falling, be it into a white fluffy hotel comforter or into the crisp Gotham air.

“Oh! My! Gosh!!!” hears Marinette as Lila on the bus to Wayne Enterprise. “I feel so. At. Home!” In Marinette’s tired ears, there were more exclamation marks. 

“Of course… The only thing that can inhabit Gotham alleyways are cockroaches and villains,” Chloe grumbles beneath her breath, looking out the window.

“What have I ever done to you Chloe?” Lila cries, “I understand why Marinette bullies me, she is a jealous and vile girl. But I thought you, Chloe, want to be a better person, not a bully like that bitch, Marinette!”

“How dare you. How dare you. HOW DARE YOU!” Chloe yells as the recent words loop in her mind, 

“Not gonna call your daddy, huh?” Alya taunts. 

Chloe, with tears in her eyes begins, but is quickly interrupted by Marinette, “No she will not. She doesn’t need to. Chloe grew a lot over the last couple months, I’m so proud of her. She doesn’t need your bitch-ass approval.” Marinette grasps Chloe’s hand which previously wrapped itself around the fabric of Chloe’s heavy caramel winter coat.

“Quiet on the bus!”, A yell came from the front.

“But, Mr. Bus Driver… Marinette is being a…”

“Shut it! Y’all want me to kamikaze this shit into a building? I’m guessing y’all value your lives so shut it!” 

“Ms.Guardian, can I please have a cookie?” Pollen softly asks from the inside of Chloe’s giant white faux leather handbag.

“Shh… Pollen! Now’s not the time!!!” stresses Tikki.

“Please Ms. Guardian!!! I’m so so so hungry. This bag isn’t very warm and it’s taking all my energy to keep warm. A lil blubber wouldn’t hurt…. please!!”.

“Of course Pollen,” quietly respond Mari with a grin, “Here you go.” She pulls out a couple cookies from a Tupperware and hands them to Pollen. “Please share them with Tikki,” whispers Marinette into the bag. 

Marinette and Chloe then hears two tiny “thank you”s followed by the sound that can only be described increasingly aggressive chomping. Both girls giggle quietly.

“Welcome to Gotham,” says an unenthusiastic man at the front desk. “Congratulations, you are…” He checks his computer. “On time? Interesting.”

“Yes, we are aware,” grumbles Mrs. Bustier, already done with the man’s attitude.

“Okay so before the tour starts I’m doing to need the student who set-up this field trip to sign a couple forms and stuff. Here ya go.” The man pushed a thicc pile of paper into the teachers hand. 

“Oooh! That would be me sir!” Lila chirped, intercepting the papers before skipping back to her posse of her’s. A few seconds after beginning to fill out paperwork Lila cries “Ouch! My wrist! My arthritis! Can someone help me filling out all these form.” 

“I’ll fill them out, I’m only going to need your signatures,” offered Max.

“Thank you Max, you are so sweet!” Lila complements. 

“Of course, your arthritis was badly affected by the altitude yesterday, you shouldn’t be staining your wrist so early!” Max blushed. 

“Maribug, you gonna to say something?” 

“Nah, just watch. Entertainment without a Netflix membership.”

Oh and im gonna add something else: it helps if the author puts proper warnings such as "angst, alcohol consumption, etc" words not "warning: this is kinda shitty but yeah lol" because that doesn't let us know what we are getting into. I get some don't wanna spoil things, but they're necessary so please writers properly tag things in the warnings and A/N parts at the top of a work even if it's a blurb, drabble etc. I reblog ones with proper warnings & it makes ppl want to read it because-

first i just wanna say i did get the first half of your asks and i wholeheartedly agree. however i do feel if i actually do respond, i will get bitched out so i’m just gonna keep it in my inbox. but yeah all valid points

second this is actually a really good point. i’m gonna go through my masterlist and fix things that aren’t warned properly. i think it’s hard for us to want to find a balance between keeping things a surprise (like not wanting to warn every thing that happens). but you’re right about triggers being posted upfront along with things like smut.

last but not least people aren’t always going to act the way you expect. like it fucking sucks, but people are always going to move differently then the way you want them too which then it’s just like don’t interact with them. if you send an ask to an author and they don’t respond in a way you like, you know that account isn’t for you. there are a few blogs that i’ve blocked here and there because i don’t care for their attitude or the way they handle things. that doesn’t make them any less of a writer and it definitely doesn’t mean people are going to stop following them, it just means i know their content isn’t for me and i don’t need to see it on my dash. there shouldn’t be any conflict and it definitely shouldn’t be an authors vs. readers deal. like at the end of the day, we’re literally all here for the same reason. we’re all fan accounts meaning that none of us are higher or better than another. just be like respectful to one another (also this was like a blanket statement, not directed at you. i didn’t even realize that people were this scared/anxious to speak to authors)

HOW I RUN MY BLOG.

SPEED:     i am super slow. sometimes, i am really quick with replies, which only means that i’m in a mood for that specific kinda thread. on top of that, i get easily distracted. i might start a reply, see something else and only continue writing the reply a couple hours later. and most of the time that makes me lose interesting in writing the reply right away and i put it aside. my speed heavily relies on my mood.

REPLIES:   in general i would say i go with one para replies as i take way too long on 3+ para replies. but then again, that depends on my partner. some inspire so much that i could write a whole novel. those are rare but they happen. so yeah, i’m all game for shorter threads bc they are easier to reply to.

STARTERS:    50% of my blog are starter calls and most of the time i forget to do them. which i am sorry about (at the same time, if i forget about it i highly suggest asking me about it ... you know ... throwing a starter at me if we’ve talking about a plot before). i’m not that good at starters so most of the time they are pretty basic but ... i always try to give you something to work with. if i fail, don’t hesitate to tell me! and i always ask you to specify a muse for a starter unless we have, like, a heavily plotted connection for some muses.

INBOX:     i hoard memes. i am very slow with them as well (okay i am a slow writer in general) but i usually get to them. sometimes, i have just the idea what i want to write and get going. other times i have a vague idea and start to write a reply but stop bc i’m not 100% how to go on so i’d rather wait than give a half-hearted reply.

SELECTIVITY:    i am selective with whom i follow for various reasons. above all: i get easily overwhelmed and don’t want a cluttered dash. if i follow you, i 100% wanna write with you. if you follow me and i haven’t followed back chances are i am still checking you out or i have no idea how to interact with your muse. in either cases i suggest you approach me at some point and we talk about it. i like to give everyone a chance and see if things work out though.

WISHLIST:    i have one, it exists. it’s rather empty but i have a million ideas in my mind. sometimes, i share those ideas and give you weird plots.

What would prevent you from following someone?

i pay quite a bit of attention the mun’s voice when reading rules / pages . some people just come off as extremely aggressive / controlling, and it puts me off from following sometimes !  things like : do not follow and block me immediately if you are abc-phobic and support defg-isms ; it’s irritating when i see too much ooc / photos / literally anything apart from your replies ; i will unfollow n block you if you don’t attempt to approach me within a week and DONT try to contact me asking why i unfollowed you …

i certainly don’t want to interact sexist / racist / lgbtqphobic people myself . in an ideal world,  i would also want to interact with all 100+ of my mutuals on the regular and have them approach me within a week of following me - like wouldn’t that be convenient ?? but in reality , people have their own obligations n priorities. people grow up in diff backgrounds n might not have the exact same viewpoints as u. like. idk,, it just comes off as intolerant and disrespectful.  i dont want to feel like i’m walking on eggshells whenever i log in or make a post.

well. this is a bit controversial …. but i feel like ppl are. too sensitive abt whitewashing ?? like i understand that there’s a problem if icons are deliberately edited to lighten skin tone or if a mun straight up erases the character’s racial identity , but some ppl just use pack psds n when the icons are like. two hexes off from their orig skin tone n people accuse them of bein racist and stuff. like . yeah ok,  maybe it was a poor judgement on the mun’s part ,  but labelling them a racist is just . not cool.

⛅  Do you believe aesthetics are another form of expression?

absolutely. esp bc im still new to writing but ive been making art for all my life so im very into visuals and ive done so much schooling about thinking about visuals. even just reblogging and tagging things its like curating a lil gallery on ur blog. my best friend is often getting inspo before we work on threads or plotting so we have lots of ideas and lil visuals to mix in between us

and then with things like how you present your writing i believe it absolutely can be as well. esp bc this is a hobby and ur not getting graded nor submitting anything for publishing people should feel more chill about just experimenting. ( sometimes having a polished set of icons and text style might be the most inspiring canvas / starting place for someone so maybe they dont need to experiment anymore with them anymore and thats grand too )

im really about people feeling out what they like. theres always been trends in the art world or storytelling world so im not surprised people have icon and edit trends too. even if something isnt what you like that doesnt mean you cant like that other ppl like it c:

ive yelled a lot about my best friend so far and im fully prepared to yell more about how i love him

but in the interest of having more variety to these answers i gotta say all the people who take time to post headcanons and character development stuff independently of anyone theyre rping with. who just write great things because they can and feel like it! very inspiring!

i already answered the in depth honest answer here, but as far as the lil icing on the cake things:

cats. playing games with my best friend. funny moments between friends in games ( hilarious glitches or ic nonsense ) and i know a rly happy baby who always has a big smile and lil chubby hands ready to clap whenever she sees me

rpwise… joking about muses n threads ooc w others. comparing muses to animals. i like to draw silly things too when i have time hehehe

oh and seeing other ppls pets!!! animals are good!!!!!!

♦ How has roleplaying on Tumblr improved since you started out?

ah i couldnt answer this before but i remember when i started it seemed like there were more mean ppl? idk if its that being an asshole is less acceptable or if ive just done such a good job of following nice people but my dash is usu full of supportive and understanding writers c:

⚓ Are there any small details you tend to like in roleplays?

oh rhythm a lot! sometimes when im writing i get the beat of a sentence in my head long before i get the words ( usually for the start of starters if it happens? ) and i just throw in words to fit it and figure out how to make them make sense later

but i often read my own stuff out loud to see if its about where i want it to be and sometimes ill read my partners reply out loud to shake my own words from my head or to get a better feel for what were writing together. some characters are just made of melody and i like to read their dialogue again and again and just feel the music of them hehe
