yes I did !! :D it seems to gray out the dark blue on mobile (at least for me) but on web it's awesome 🫶 I don't usually change themes so often (only had the jayce one for a few months compared to my usual year+) but I figured once batfam got me to start writing fic again it deserved to be the blog theme

SO *bats eyelashes* ive been working on an Arcane Jayvik fic over the past 2 months going insane about it bc i keep adding stuff I wanna address (let it be said it was a one shot at first but im not normal and cannot be trusted with the gift of writing)

It's a post S2 but not a fix-it, it's more of a character analysis that Takes A Turn ngl, they wake up in the meadows after the explosion but things are OFF around them and they try to figure it out while dealing with their own traumas and mutual issues and obsessive codependent dynamic 🥰

Anyway I'm done with about 2-3 chapters as of now and I think I'll post it on ao3 when it's fully done but. I need to share some stuff to hold myself accountable so I'll just throw snippets in there that I like I guess ??? it'll be in my fic tag (fic tag) but idk what im doing so *shrugs cutely*

Act 3 spoilers. (pt 2)

JAYCE TIME!!! I love that man and I NEED to talk about him.

Again, I'm gonna start with what I'm happy about.

I enjoy how they demonstrated his ingenuity and perseverance in episode 7. Making a leg brace out of his hammer? Eating whatever animals came through that cave? Being able to tolerate those beings that watched his every move without going completely insane? It was amazing to see someone who was previously suicidal fight so hard to live.

I was pleasantly surprised with how he could still be considerate after everything that happened to him. He hadn't let that experience erase his former self entirely, his kindness was still able to pull through, which is just another example of his tenacity.

The development of his relationship with Viktor. It was beautiful seeing Jayce admit that he admired Viktor all along, and his imperfections even more so. All of you who ever thought the opposite of him BE ASHAMED. He loved Viktor so much, and after everything, finally realized that Viktor should've been his top priority because he's what he cared about this whole time.

Jayce looked absolutely gorgeous in this act, as expected, THANK YOU.

Now, what I'm mostly just disappointed by.

The lack of attention paid to his hallucinations. There was one more in episode 8 and that was it. I guess I was just expecting more of that, considering how frequent it was in episode 5 and 6. I really wanted them to explore his trauma. Surviving for what seems to be months in an abandoned part of the world that you took part in destroying, unintentionally or not, can do A LOT to someone's head, especially someone like Jayce, who had once been so naive to and inexperienced with suffering. He was NOT privileged, mind you, but he was raised in Piltover, a city built on peace and wealth.

The ending Jayce received was, to me at least, underwhelming. It's a win for JayVik fans, but it is NOT a win for Jayce Talis fans (or just me idk man IM UNSATISFIED). I feel like it really undermines Jayce as a character, revealing that his entire life begins and ends with Viktor since he is the mage he met as a kid. It makes it seem that Jayce was simply a pawn in Viktor's story, like nothing he did ever actually meant anything because no matter what, he was going to drop it all for Viktor. Endearing in a romantic aspect, yes, but disappointing in every other. I really wanted more for him. I would've honestly preferred it if the mage wasn't Viktor, rather some other league character that could become a bigger part of the next series they're making. Having it be Viktor makes the world seem so small.

The build-up of him during episode 9 was ultimately unnecessary. He didn't even fight in the war, let alone fight Viktor while in his Machine Herald form. He just ended up talking to him with a "this isn't you" type beat and then proceeded to warp out of existence with Viktor. NOT DEAD... btw.. he's alive and well just on another astral plane don't get it twisted. I understand that they're soulmates destined to meet each other in every universe, but I didn't expect such a happy ending for them. I WANTED A BOSS FIGHT WITH SPIT BLOOD AND TEARS

Also, I feel like there was no true explanation as to why the gemstone had to be imbedded in Jayce's wrist? Was it simply so he could carry it into wherever Viktor was? For me, I genuinely thought it would give Jayce some type of control over magic, unlock his inner arcane or SOMETHING. The way Viktor said Jayce had too touched the arcane made me think that's exactly what was going to happen, like Jayce was going to unlock his connection to magic through the stone literally being inside him. It could've been an explanation as to why magic fascinates him so much, he just needed a link to it, straight from the source to realize his full potential. I'm honestly sad that they didn't delve deeper into that. Him and Mel would've been so powerful together. SOMEONE MAKE A FIC OF JAYCE BEING A MAGE PLEEEASE IT WOULD BE SOOOO COOL CMON GUYS

Back to episode 7, I also expected Jayce to fight those things he saw while in the other dimension. It would've been fascinating to see how severely they affected his mental state, considering they were literally breathing down his neck the entire time he was there. I would've liked to see him one day just snap and dismantle one of those things. Seeing how they weren't violent upon his arrival, I doubt they'd fight back, and he'd just take out all his rage and sadness and guilt on them. It would explain why he was so unfazed when he killed salo; both because he knows it isn't truly him and he's already killed so many, it no longer has an effect. And it might've given him more battle IQ, using them as test dummies and learning how to defend himself. That would've been a cool segment of his time spent there. There just wasn't enough time to go that deep.

In conclusion, they could've made him so much cooler, just saying. But seriously, I think I expected too much out of this act, and the second season in general. And I love Jayce, the end.

“lord save me my drug is my baby i be using for the rest of my life” the ‘drug’ jayce was high on was magic, it was what fueled him since childhood and its loss was what he almost killed himself over, but ofc that magic was always viktor

i literally feel like season 2 of arcane has changed my brain chemistry like im going insane over here. season 1 it was vi and jinx that had me emotionally wrecked and season 2 its jayvik that have me going through the one million stages of grief. and jinx and vi are still killing me from this season, and jayvik still had me enamored in season 1, but WOW WOWOOWOWOWOOWWOOWOOW. im rattling off the walls of my enclosure

ohhhhh jayce talis the kids miss you 💔💔💔 im genuinely appalled at both the fandom and the arcane writers. specifically the arcane writers for mentioning very heavy plot points then never exploring them again. cuz what do you mean we see jayce surviving off of pretty much nothing, with a broken back, leg, shoulder, and a possible brain injury, slowly going insane? we see the whismy drain out of him in record time, only for the next time we see him in episode 8 hes perfectly fine and he just needed a shower and it turns out the violent hallicinations he was having in episode 6 were literally just a viktor proximity sensor and not at all trauma induced??? like episode 6 was setting him up as having gone conpletely insane, shooting viktor, having an episode in a public area, like, the actual possibilities to explore his trauma were thrown away cuz the writers needed him to be this serious soldier guy. not to mention how his leg disability is never fucking mentioned again except for his leg brace breaking in a blink-and-youll-miss-it shot, only for him to easily run to mel afterwards as if his leg was never injured. like...??? we just got shown a full episode of him enduring mind bending trauma only for them to show us jayce being perfectly fine, conpletely juxtaposing episode 6!! honestly respect to the animators and music artists for making such good content for a season with such horrific writing.the arcane writers fumbled every character so bad that despite the atrocious writing for jayce he somehow manages to get the best arc out of every other main character in the whole show.

oh, and dont get me STARTED. on the fandom's perception of jayce. 94% of so called 'jayce fans' are literally only interested in jayvik, and 67% of those are only interested in viktor within the ship. we have a man who suffered tremendously and the only thing people can fucking say about it is "no way it mirrored viktors life 🥺🥺🥺" even though it BARELY did, my biggest point being that viktor had to metaphorically climb out of zaun whereas jayce had to literally climb out (and, probably with his leg still half broken, causing it to get fucked up more as he climbed) !!! like, every time I see a fic where jayce doesnt shoot viktor and he brushes off his time in the au like it was nothing a piece of me dies inside. its literally the same as vi's prison trauma being shortened down to like, one line she said in s1. i dont understand why both the fandom and arcane itself really likes to pick and choose which character is allowed to be traumatized, like: jinx- yes vi- no, viktor-yes (?) jayce - no, ekko - no, like... all of these characters have horrific trauma, why are only a few actually aknowledged??? okay okay rant over guys, ive had all these points stewing in my head for weeks and i needed to get them out somewhere, seeing all the reblogs and comments healed me knowing there are other people who aknowledge jayces trauma too

s2 Jayce makes me ill oh my god my boy someone save him I can’t believe they compounded his trauma and then didn’t even discuss it- the fandom didn’t even really discuss it

We joke about the raw salamanders but he couldn’t make a fire for a long time when he was stuck in that ravine. It was visibly wet at the bottom. This means he was stuck in a cold, dark, wet crevasse of rock, alone for a minimum of two or three months - long enough to grow that beard

We’ve known from day 1 that Jayce holds onto his trauma from the blizzard. It’s the cold, the loneliness, the helplessness. It’s the root of his anxiety. It’s the pressure behind his motivation. Decades later and he still fusses over loved ones being cold.

The ravine is already awful for any character but it doubled down on all the things Jayce specifically is weak to. All of the things he struggles the most with were shoved at him on top of an already horrible situation

All this to say: his mental state Was Not Intact or Stable. He had been eating raw amphibian for ages by the time he had access to fire, and I do not think he was fully checked in when he got to that point. Guy was operating on autopilot. This is so upsetting I hate it here
