(He’s still mourning the loss of his limited edition “Magic Rumimi- Sakura dreamscape” figurine, but give him a couple years and it’ll blow over.) 8/10

Husband!Lilia’s never been able to get this vulnerable with anyone. EVER. He’s working on it with his own kids, but it’s much harder to communicate with a toddler, especially when half-fae aging is SO sporadic. They’ll both have to watch you age, but your light never dims, and he’s getting all the pictures he can! Ayo, someone by the name of Curly-B-Blog is redlining art of yours from 2020 (while pretending that it's actually Sai Scribble's work), and kind of being a dick about it. just thought you should know.

You know, originally I was just gonna brush it off, but then I went back to look at my old SU art from 2020 and did so much self reflection from then till now.

I think this was around the time I was just learning how to do perspective and tried to use the perspective tool on Procreate for the first time? :0 and I remember telling Sai “Sai I have this STUPID idea, I CANT believe it this stupid joke it’s so DUMBBBB, it’s living rent free in my BRAIN I SWEAR THIS IS GONNA BE SO STUPID DCIUWHEFIUWHIRFUIW4F” and being super excited to show her the finished product. People still think Sai created the Cursed Skin Gloves comic and I think it’s hilarious wjhwnuhwijwuiw

The comic was received very well and it made LOTS of people laugh and I’m still proud of this comic to this very day! :D and tbh if it wasn’t for my obsession for Sai’s Switcheroo AU I never would have found my passion in comic work! (love you you stinky hoe @saiscribbles 🩷)

HOWEVER…. I definitely still had lots to learn! I wasn’t very good at perspective at the time I’ll admit, but I was definitely having lots of fun learning :3

And throughout the past 4 years, ALOT has happened.

I graduated from college with TWO fancy pieces of expensive papers in Visual Development in Animation and Illustration learning from Will Kim and Jeff Soto, and as a I was working with the funny voice man Cougar MacDowall as a comic/story artist and reached in total around 7 million views for my fan series FNAF Security Malware Breached (it was even #21 on the trending list around the time of my birthday 🩷 what a lovely gift), had an insane opportunity to work with Mike Geno and with the voice cast from The Amazing Digital Circus for a fan song as a background and character asset artist, Vivienne Medrano liking and sharing my silly Overlord Husk AU comics, currently on my route to getting my certificate from Aaron Blaise’s Character design program and graduating from Marc Brunet Art School, and now I am completing my first year as professional colorist and art assistant for my storyboard and comic mentor Michelle Lam, aka Mewtripled! (Also I’ll be heading out to Lightbox Expo 2024 on October 26 with Michelle and the team so if y’all ever wanna meetup hahahajaj wink wink wink wink wink)

All in all this fic is so good, such a rollercoaster of emotions every chapter. Ive been reading since chapter 1 and the shock that coursed through me as every chapter kept hitting the 20k mark. hear me out, mike is a little more experienced, and my guess is that he’s pretty fucking good (since 3 bad bitches are all up on him in game), he’s probably made a partner get all teary eyed because of how good it feels before, but it’s certainly a rare occurrence.

that being said, when he gets you to do it… he’s initially worried, obviously.. no matter how many times he sees it, he’s always worried that it’s not good tears, freezing up and giving you the softest look while he puts a warm hand on your cheek, wiping away your tears. “Hey, hey… you okay, baby? did i hurt you?” it’s sweet, any roughness or teasing coming to an IMMEDIATE halt.

That being said, once you confirm that it’s not bad tears, he’d get a little mean, but it would still make him be easier on you. Giving you breathless little praises, “Goddamn, you’re so.. so perfect.” kissing away your tears and putting one of his hands over your mouth, shushing you softly, “c’mon baby, gotta be quiet for me, yeah?” only to fuck into you with that same relentlessness… GUH…

as for chris, we could easily clock his inexperience, even josh does so! so with him, he doesn’t really… know that crying is a good thing during sex??

the second he sees your eyes getting all teary, he freezes like a deer in fucking headlights, immediately stopping everything to gather you up in his arms, wiping away your tears with his thumb. “Hey, hey.. what’s wrong? are.. are you okay?” he’s just so worried about you, running his warm hands across your waist and looking at you with such an affectionate gaze.. “Do you need to stop? or.. take a break?” im so sick..

even once you confirm you’re okay, he’s still gonna treat you like you’re made of glass… easing up on some of his previous roughness, even if it was unintentional… one of my anons mentioned the idea of chris being a dude who doesn’t fully realize his own strength all the time, and i def agree with that.. that being saaaid… once he knows you like it? he’d def get back into that rhythm he had going before, even if it’s subconsciously.. he’s gonna be holding you, giving you little needy kisses in between and checking on you just to make sure you’re not broken :(

The Watcher ʕ 👀ʔ Thoughts

im going full spoiler here, so please dont read further if you have yet to play or care about that sorta thing. tldr, i liked it. Rain World is always a tricky game to recommend because its weird.. its very very good and i love it a lot, but theres so many elements about it that dont play out well for a lot of people. understandably so. this same sentiment applies to the dlc, even moreso, possibly. ill get into it below!

ive finally finished it after pretty much playing this game nonstop since it released on friday lolllll. im normal, alright? i'm not sure how i wanna structure this, but ill start with the opening.

the game begins in a surprising location, though you wont realize it at first. Hydroponics, the new subregion for Industrial Complex. when i emerged above the Outskirts karma gate, i admit i was a bit concerned. where was the new stuff? why am i here? it was disorienting. but i figured id start with the basic story beats: let's go see Looks to the Moon! i figured i'd run through drainage for the fun of it and keep an eye open for anything strange on the way. after running into a few king vultures and red lizards in outskirts, i was beginning to prepare for the worst in terms of enemy spawns and so i was taking it slow and easy.

then i found the rot. strategically blocking the only path to drainage. i then realized what was happening, and i freakin Loved it.

i really loved how they place you in an unfamiliar location, immediately setting your expectations that you are exploring completely unknown territory.. only for that facade to break as you realize you're still in the base game map. and then Further playing with your typical expectations of knowing to visit the Plot characters (Pebbles and Moonie) and very smartly controlling your movements by blocking off the paths to the iterators. Where else is there to go? The echoes.

Or, echo, in this case. i do want to go back and reread the dialogue from our strange friend a bit further, but off the bat it was cool how manic and, immature? this echo was. a stark contrast to the echoes we're used to! they even look different.. in their appearance and the way they hover there. totally different mood from the Pompous, Egotistical echoes that could not pass the veil.

i liked how they slowly began to open up to you and you learn more about their plight. after knowing this game for as long as i have (pre DP!!), the mysterious nature of the echoes had lost their luster a bit. they're still utterly horrifying and beautiful, but theres only so many times you can see them and the mysticism begins to become normalized. it was nice to feel like you could unravel a bit of the mystery behind this particular character, who ultimately is a child from an ancient society that failed to ascend. i loved it.

i guess i should talk about the actual gameplay though? i mean this IS a game after all….. and this game..?

well, this game started off as a maze runner in early development, yeah? and it still IS that in its final iteration on release, but theres also more to it with regards to the world it built. there's so much to unravel in base rain world when it comes to the environmental storytelling of the regions and their original purposes and locations, the pearl dialogue with Moon, buddhist memes, the ecosystems, etc etc etc etc. so so much. if you're reading this, you know already.

watcher doesn't have a LOT of that. each region you visit are not physically linked, but are instead done so via warp tunnels that you find or create yourself. i see a lot of people being disappointed about that aspect, to which i can understand. it leaves out a lot of potential for the aspects that are integral to base Rain World that i just mentioned. but honestly? i dont really mind it all that much.

in leiu of that, we have an interconnected web of regions/dimensions/worlds/realities that are all linked in specific and highly confusing ways that serves as the campaign's stage for a large game of hide and seek with our new echo friend. a Maze, if you will.

despite the map on the sleep screen being quite confusing and overwhelming at times, i thought it was a very cool way of handling this dlc's universe. a big criticism that i have is that since things are so Physically disconnected, it ends up being difficult to remember where a lot of key features are. karma flowers, static warp tunnels, Daemon entrance tunnels, it was A LOT. especially once you start figuring out what you're supposed to be doing and what youre looking for. in typical rain world fashion, the game doesnt hold your paw much at all outside of a few brief and essential tutorial explanations on how to use The Watcher's abilities.

the echo placements are something im a tad mixed on. since the saint has a function that immediately tells you there is an echo within the region you enter, i have to assume that the decision to not use this indicator is an intentional design choice. on my first playthrough, i had a few dry spells of endless and endless wandering until finally i managed to happen upon the echo, upon which i'd be transported to a new world and run into a string of finding their new hiding spot nearly back to back. i'm unsure if thats just good fortune on my end? or if there is a tendency for the echo to teleport you to places near their next spot, but thats how it ended up working out for me in a few cases. as i type this, i honestly think i'd settle for some kinda indicator on the region map that at least tells you where a previous echo has been found, because gosh it is DEFINITELY overwhelming to keep all that stuff memorized. you could always write this stuff down ig, but it wasn't immediately obvious to me that the campaign's objective was to locate this guy again and again. i'm fine with this objective overall, but yeah it woulda been cool if there was something to help you keep track of your progress in that regard.

so ultimately, its a big game of hide and seek in a maze-like region, where each region is a small part of a larger maze, all the while you are still a slugcat that is fighting to stay alive in a strangely familiar, yet alien universe with new threats we've never seen or encountered before. I liked it. it was very cool.

what other criticisms do i have.. uuaahhh.. i guess the inclusion of modded regions isnt my favorite. mind you, i also dont really mind it either. idk, its difficult to articulate. the sense i got is that… in The Watcher's (campaign) context, there was less of a focus on world building and moreso on providing us stunning set pieces to explore that are Rain World.. but different from what we've ever seen before. which makes sense! we aren't in Five Pebbles anymore after all. its vague as to Where we are of course, though i believe the echo dialogue implies we're jumping through different stages of history. or perhaps alternate timelines? maybe alternate universes? all of the above? i guess i'll leave the rw scholars to disassemble all that. but anyway, the modded regions are fine, i suppose. theyre a nice way to reach out to the community and in terms of gathering potential temporal/extradimensional locations within the rain world universe, it works fine imo.

i also dont love the possibility that the expansion was rushed to meet the 8th RW anniversary. by all means, it feels SOLID as is, but if theyre planning on adding more content (which was explicitly stated by James, eventually culminating in the console release), i think i woulda just preferred to have waited until it was Finished with a capital F. it is what it is.

ough, and ive already seen posts from people thats essentially just soyjack shit that centers around the world map discussion and boils down to old thing is for smart people, and new thing is superficial and not good. i just hope most people can distinguish between personal preferences and expectations to the actual quality of the expansion.

anyway. other stuff i liked!! gonna just bullet point this:

i LOVED THE MOTHS!!! GRRR!!!!!!!! i love how theyre docile up until the point where violence breaks out and they just fly you into the sky and drop you back to the ground. i also love that vulture are just On Sight with them. they're so cute too. their little head tilts… aaahhh.. i wanna draw them!!!!

the music slapped. next.

signal spires. utterly gorgeous. those structures in the background.. the whales.. aaa

the warp tunneling and cloaking effects were also SUPER cool. i also actually kinda predicted that the cloak could be upgraded and provide additional movement options since there was a LOT of areas that seemed to be impossible to traverse without loading yourself up with spears.

the new 'karma' symbols are water ripples

the ending was just very sweet and i loved getting to see a brief glimpse of that ancient society. this might also be entirely cope, but as someone who likes to think of slugcats being bout the size of a large cat, i have questions about the scale of Ancient Urban. for gameplay purposes, i think theres a level of abstraction, in addition to the fact that it was also explicitly mentioned by VC that it is left intentionally vague, to the size scale of the game, but that room with the shop and the storage closet and the bedroom and the void baths and the rooftop bridge and the pipes connecting each room together was.. inconsistent? i think? this doesnt even mater i just have autism, but its F*CKIN with my brain!!!!!!!!!! HOW BIG ARE SLUGCATS JAMES. PLEASE

You'd assumed colby will be absolutely exhausted from filming and driving with his bsf sam, but that means they got some good stuff on camrea, though you hate seeing him absolutely exhausted. So when he told you he was on his way home, you made his favorite meal, turned on his show, made a comfortable spot on the couch, and made his favorie tea. And then..you waited.

Soon enough he got home, opening the door placing the bag full of equipment for recording and ect on the ground gently. Letting out a loud sigh before speaking..“love? Im home” he hummed loud enough. You came around the corner as he started taking his shoes off. “oh hai, babe's how was recording?” colby’s face lit up a bit at the name. “it was good, we got a decent amount done, im exhausted tbough..” he got closer, wrapping his arms around you in'a lazy tired hug.

“Mm, thats good. I missed you, baby” he knew you hated when he was gone for so long, he did just as much, but it was worth the wait. “i missed you too, love..im sorry i was gone for so long, make it up with cuddles, i promise?” his voice sounded like it was filled with guilt. “hm, i like that idea, i also have an idea though, go get settled on the couch, ill come around in a sec.”

“yes ma'am” he said playfully, he knew you loved when he called u ma'am. He went and sat down and got comfortable, enjoying the warm atmosphere you had provided for him. you soon came around the corner once again, with his drink in one hand and his favorite meal in the other. spy looks over the edge of his cigarette to the scout, leaning against a wall in feigned nonchalance. he looks agitated with fingers curled into white knuckled fists. he looks ready to hit someone, spy thinks. ever the violent little thing.

“you will have to be more specific.”

scout scoffs. “thats’a no then.”

“say what you want, boy.” the spy exhales his smoke out of the corner of his mouth.

scout's nose crinkles as he steels himself as though preparing to weather a storm. the tension between them feels thick as the spy's already charred lungs feel even more strained. faint redness tinges the boy's cheeks and the spy knows that scout is trying not to cry.

"what good is it if you wont freakin' listen? whats the point in trying to say anything when every one of ya jerks look at me like im not in on it, like im the last to know. i have eyes." scout's frame shakes, turning to face the spy. "im not that stupid, i can connect the dots.”

“you are talking in circles. this game you are playing had no place among coworkers-“

“youre my father, you asshole.”

spy slowly takes his cigarette from his mouth. he lets the silence take hold of the room to mask the feeling of cold dread washing over him. it was never supposed to be this way. “ah, i see,” he mutters.

“yea,” scout spits, “been searching for the bastard my whole life and it freakin’ figures id meet him here, at the end of the world.”

“life is surely funny that way.”

“doesnt feel very funny.”

the spy watches scout shuffle his feet. “you were never supposed to find out like this.”

“dont give me that.” the scout hisses the words and the red raising in his cheeks disguises his smattering of freckles. the spy thinks he looks older like this, settled into his rage. “i wasnt never supposed to know, was i?”

he could lie. he has been lying his whole life and it came to him far easier. there was already a story at the tip of his tongue about waiting for the right time and place, about waiting for when all the bloodshed was over to finally embrace his role as a father. really, he should lie to save his own sanity and peace of mind in the workplace if nothing else.

“no, you were not.” however, the truth sneaks out of spy like an exhale.

the scout jerks a nod and looks away. his throat clicks with the swallowing of tears and the little boy from another lifetime ago is standing right in front of spy all of a sudden. the small hands that grabbed his fingers when he was a newborn now clench onto nothing. wide eyes once full of wonder were now unable to meet his own.

“you were just gonna, what, keep going here until one of us died? everyone was just going to keep this to themselves and let me rot with it?” the scout takes a deep breath. “my ma knows too, doesnt she? has known about it the whole freakin’ time i bet.” he deflates a bit at the mention of his mother.

“she wanted me to keep an eye on you,” the spy says.

at once, something gripes scout and suddenly the rage is back, sparking and sputtering with righteous fury. “jesus christ, again with the lies? you were gonna keep an eye on me, oh, like back when i was a kid and getting my lunch money taken? back when i had to earn my place in the neighborhood just to keep from getting pummeled?” he points a finger. “you never did anything even close to protect me. when ma couldnt pick me up from practice because she was home with the flu, it was benny who came to get me, not you. when i needed field trip permission slips signed, matty taught me how to forge a signature.” one finger becomes two and counts up in time with his words. “randy taught me how to tie my shoes. eddie knew where id always forget my backpack. sammy let me pick any candy i wanted when we went to the grocery store.”

the spy stays silent. no words come to him.

“and when i got here, who showed me where to put my things? it wasnt you spy, it was demo. when i had to ask about my shots getting delivered here, did you go out of your way to make it happen? no, medic did that too. did you ask me what i wanted for breakfast or was that heavy? did my father ever offer to upgrade my weapons or did engie do that?”

the scout, during his scolding, had involuntarily stepped closer and closer to the spy until they were in each other’s faces. the air felt thick, and spy wanted to cloak right now more than anything on earth.

scout steps back. “i didnt need a father then and i sure as hell dont need one now,” he says.

if the world was right and just, spy would apologize right now and say he regretted leaving his son as he did all those years ago. he would promise that the lies ended here. he would promise to start being the father scout deserved, better late then never.

but unfortunately, the world was how it was. “are you quite done?”

scout stares at him for a moment with his jaw somewhat dropped, and the spy feels his heart break at the realization that the scout had had hope in a different outcome.

“youre a real piece of work,” scout grumbles. “lets both forget this happened, okay? dont even bother trying to pretend to care, either. we should both just forget about each other like this, im too tired to deal with any more.” the scout takes a step back before a smirk tugs at his lips and he gives a watery snort. “ya know, life is funny that way. this time, i get to be the one to walk away.”

before spy can try to respond, the scout turns on his heel and walks away, as was his birth right, as was his nature.
