I postponed this reading as much as I could, because I didn't want it to end.

But this ending couldn't be more perfect, I think it was all well measured.

It finally hit me how emotionally attached they were with the cabin. They've found peace, love and started a new family in there and seeing them leaving broke my heart a little, although I know it was for the best (as if I wasn't a heavy entusiast for them to go to Jackson).

I heavy cried when Joel set a cairn for Sarah, I think this was one of the best scenes of Joel dealing with his grief. I think that the Joel from thr beginning of the SDLN wouldn't be able to speak with her like that.

And they said goodbye to their bed, I see it as a ritual for good luck and safe travels

I cannot even express to you how many times I have read this since you sent it.

The Joel at the beginning of this story would never have been able to speak to her like that, you're spot on. He was hiding so much of her deep inside, to keep her away from what had become of his life and to also spare himself the pain, but I just...love thinking of him not only becoming a man he thinks she would be proud of, but also just having that time to heal himself.

I also cried when I wrote that scene, lol. I kept thinking about how he'd be able to feel a physical weight lifting from his chest as he said those things to her, and how he could finally rest knowing that she herself was resting in a peaceful place. I can't even fathom losing a child, let alone being forced to leave their body lying somewhere in a ditch - the thought itself was a horrible one, and to give him (even though I know he's a fictional character) some peace over that - it was the whole point of the fic, and I feel so grateful for being allowed to share it with you all.

The cabin is something I became emotionally attached to (funnily enough) and I was really sad to see it go. I love thinking about it preserved like a little time capsule of their lives, with that little cross outside ��� - such a spot of serenity and peace, and love.

I have a little bit left - a tiny little epilogue that I am going to share here in a week or so ❤ thank you thank you thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for always being such a kind, thoughtful, amazing human being and member of this fandom - you have stuck by me through thick and thin! and I wouldn't be here without you ❤
