TGO update

I have just written the last scene of The Golden Ocean 

There is still a bunch of editing and probably some rewriting to do of some scenes but... *silent screaming*. It’s been an amazing and horrifying ride, a project like this, and I’m probably going to have more emotions once I start posting, because I don’t think my brain can actually comprehend that it is done. I constantly feel like I’m forgetting something. 

But to celebrate, have an excerpt! 

Napoleon is so sure that Illya would be happy here that he almost hates himself more for taking this chance from Illya, than betraying him.

During one of the drunken nights he’d tried to write a letter. Explaining to Illya that he’d leave, disappear into the ocean, so that Illya could go here and be at peace.

Oof, that one hurts, maybe this one instead

Thomas nods, thoughtful for a moment. He grabs a pen off the floor and plays with it, until he shakes his head and looks at Napoleon. His expression doesn’t hold a hint of amusement, taking on a shade of seriousness that seems almost unnatural on his face. “I know we don’t have enough booze for this, but dude, are you ever gonna talk about what happened in Russia?” 

Napoleon barks a laugh. “Hell no.”

“Figured,” Thomas says, chuckling a bit. He rubs a hand through his hair and sighs. “ But— look Boss, I get it that you don’t wanna talk about this shit with me, but something fucked with you in there, and if it’s got you tortured indirectly, that’s bad enough. You don’t trust me, that’s fine, but go to Muse.”

Ah... hmm. I’m spotting a pattern. There are also some more lovely and almost fluffy parts to it ( i swear ur gonna love some new Oc’s coming up), but as yall know TGO aint pulling punches ;p. After DD I was running out of songs of the movie to use in the narrative, so I basically went on a hunt of songs that sound like they could’ve been in the movie. Listening to these songs while writing was one of the few things that kept me sane and they will be forever important to me. Some are gonna pop up in future chapters, and others were more a general aesthetic/vibe inspiration. I love every note and I really rec listening to it. 

Then lastly, I want to thank @theheirofashandfire for her consistent and invaluable companionship throughout this project; withstanding writerly rants and brain gremlin soliloquies and managing to remain a beacon of support through all the highs and lows. Without her, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. And also thank you @lbswasp for being the beta for this project and helping rn with the editing process of the last chapters. Thank you so much.

Welcome to my 1000 follower challenge!!! With there being a lot of seasonal challenges right now I thought I’d do something a little different. I thought that maybe we should get in touch with magic that’s in the air right now ;)

So for this challenge we are looking at tarot! First I’ll go over the rules and expectations, then gloss over tarot, and finally round out this post with the characters and prompts. So let’s get started :D

You must apply through my ask box so no anons. If you are using a side blog and don’t want your main shown to the world tell me so in the ask and I will not post it publicly. 

Every entry needs to be inspired by a Major Arcana card and must be focused on a character or ship I listed.

Each card is limited to one person!

Entries must be sent by ask and will be posted publicly!

I have bonus prompts listed at the bottom of this post; you need to use at least one (1) and you are limited to three (3) total! Sentence prompts are all first come, first serve! The majority of the AU prompts have a two person limit.

What your ask should include - the tarot card you wish to claim, the character or ship you wish to write for, and 1-3 of the prompts/AUs I have listed (You need to use at least one from the list).

All angst must have a happy ending and no cis-swapping.

♦ About Tarot

We’ve all seen the decks of cards with beautiful designs used for helping find possible answers to questions we may have, but not everyone knows what’s going on with them. I will gloss over the bare minimum of info here, but I encourage you all to read up on tarot if you are unfamiliar with it.

Tarot cards are used for uncovering possible answers to questions we have about our lives - from love to career. Cards can be drawn and placed in a certain layout (spread) and are then read in a specific order. They are meant for enlightenment and what they tell in the spread is not set in stone - they are cards and you can ignore their take if you wish.

There are two ways to read the cards depending on how they appear in a spread - upright and reversed (upside down). If the card is revealed to be right-side up you are to read the card as is and if it is reversed then it’s meaning is reversed.

Depending on the deck, the description of the card can vary slightly, but overall they are similar. Also, the meaning behind the card is affected by the other cards in the spread. For this challenge you will only have to worry about the card you selected.

Because there are in total 78 cards in a standard deck (divided between the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana), we will only be using the Major Arcana which totals 22 cards.

More about Illya’s shyness, introversion and social anxiety. Stray Italian Greyhound is pretty much Illya at the start of ARR, when she’s still incredibly uncertain about everything and unwilling to take risks. But after meeting more people, making more friends and learning to open up, she becomes more willing to turn her “no”s into “maybe”. Waving through a window is pretty self-explanatory about her social anxiety. Being afraid of connecting with others, and yet she also fears not having a voice and not being known by others. Five is just a song about her enneagram type about being afraid of showing her feelings because she believes it would push others away, and her curiosity about the world around her.

wilting slowly, surely:

Lots of songs about depression, self-hatred, helplessness. Illya’s trapped in a state of constant melancholy. Antidote can actually be taken rather literally about the first time she discovers her “dark self” at the start of the dark knight storyline. Lilac and Hard Times describes her emotional fragility. When the going gets tough, she doesn’t always handle it well, and crumbles. The Walk is where Illya has a habit of blaming herself for her emotions. For feeling angry, momentarily showing her emotions to others, feeling scared. Failure Girl describes her powerlessness. Being unable to help solve all of the worlds’ problems, being too late in saving certain people. Whatever she does is never enough. idontwannabeyouanymore is raw self-hatred.

even if it’s just to save one more, then with my last breath:

At the end of the day, she pushes through because her morality compels her. She can’t ever forgive herself if she allows her own feelings and insecurities stop her from doing her duty. Daughter of the moon is her realizing and remembering the gift she’s been given, and that she cannot afford to waste it. Even if it costs her her life to save others. It’s a long process, but slowly, Illya is learning to accept and love herself. In Shake it out and Cosmic Love, she accepts the darker parts of her personality (or fray). She begins to let go of the hatred she bears for her own inner demons, and accepts that it will always be part of her. She finally accepts that it’s okay to not be perfect. They will fall like roses is her answer to the people who have hurt her, to those who made her into the woman she is today. Never Lost Word is her growth from a bud that could do nothing but doubt and hate herself, to someone who could finally look herself in the mirror.
