IELTS Essay Structure - Advantages & Disadvantages Type with Sample
The IELTS Advantage-Disadvantage essay is a common task in the Writing section. In this type of essay, you're asked to discuss both the benefits and drawbacks of a particular situation, policy, or idea. Mastering this essay type can boost your IELTS score significantly. Here’s how to succeed.
Tumblr media
Understand the StructureA well-structured essay is crucial for high marks. Begin with an introduction that clearly states the topic and outlines the advantages and disadvantages. The body should consist of at least two paragraphs: one discussing the advantages and the other focusing on the disadvantages. End with a conclusion that summarizes your main points and provides a balanced opinion.
Focus on Clarity and CohesionEnsure each paragraph covers one idea supported by examples. Use transition words like “on the one hand,” “however,” and “moreover” to maintain flow and coherence. Avoid long, complex sentences that could confuse the reader or affect readability.
Be Objective and BalancedThe key to a high-scoring essay is to present both sides of the argument fairly. While it’s important to express your opinion, make sure you don’t appear biased by focusing too heavily on one side.
In conclusion, the Advantage-Disadvantage essay requires a balanced approach, clear structure, and effective examples. Practice these strategies, and you’ll be well-prepared to tackle this essay in your IELTS exam.

overview Of IELTS #Egyaneknowledge
Tumblr media
Overview of IELTS # Egyaneknowledge The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is a standardized test for non-native English speakers who want to study, work, or live in English-speaking countries. Recognized by over 10,000 institutions worldwide, IELTS is often a prerequisite for university admission, job opportunities, and immigration. This article covers everything you need to know about the IELTS exam, its structure, preparation tips, and how it can be your gateway to studying abroad.
What is IELTS?
IELTS is a test that assesses the English language skills of non-native speakers. It’s jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English.
The exam is available in two formats:
1. Academic IELTS – Designed for those applying to universities or higher education institutions in English-speaking countries.
2. General Training IELTS – Intended for individuals planning to migrate to English-speaking countries or enroll in non-academic training programs.
Each version tests your ability to communicate in real-life situations and ensures you have the skills needed to succeed in an English-speaking environment.
Why Take the IELTS?
For students and professionals, IELTS is often a critical step in their journey to studying, working, or settling abroad.
Here are a few reasons why taking IELTS can open up new opportunities:
1. Global Recognition – Over 140 countries and 10,000 institutions accept IELTS as proof of English proficiency.
2. University Admission – Many universities in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand require IELTS scores for admission.
3. Visa and Immigration – Many countries require IELTS scores for immigration and visa processing.
4. Employment Opportunities – Multinational companies often require IELTS scores from candidates for international job roles.
Structure of the IELTS Exam
IELTS assesses four key language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Here’s a breakdown of each section:
1.Listening (30 minutes) : This section has four parts, each with ten questions, totaling 40 questions. You’ll hear recordings of native English speakers in a variety of contexts, from conversations to monologues, and answer questions based on what you hear.
2. Reading (60 minutes) : This section consists of three reading passages and a total of 40 questions. The passages range from descriptive and factual to analytical and critical, testing comprehension, main ideas, and details.
3. Writing (60 minutes): The writing test includes two tasks:
- Task 1 (150 words) for Academic IELTS: Describes data, charts, or diagrams.
- Task 2 (250 words): Essay writing that presents an argument or viewpoint. In General IELTS, Task 1 involves writing a letter, while Task 2 is a more general essay
4. Speaking (11–14 minutes): The speaking section is a face-to-face interview with an examiner, divided into three parts: an introduction, a short talk, and a discussion on abstract topics. The section evaluates your fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and coherence.
IELTS Scoring System
IELTS is scored on a scale of 0 to 9, with each skill receiving a band score. The overall score is the average of the four sections, rounded to the nearest half-point.
Here’s a breakdown of the score levels:
- Band 9 – Expert User
- Band 7 – Good User
- Band 5 – Modest User
- Band 3 – Extremely Limited User
- Band 1 – Non-user
Each university or country may have a minimum score requirement for admission or immigration, typically between 6.0 and 7.5.
Tips for IELTS Preparation
1. Understand the Format – Familiarize yourself with the test format by reviewing sample questions and practicing past papers.
2. Develop Strong Vocabulary – A strong vocabulary is essential, especially for the Reading and Writing sections.
3. Practice Time Management – Each section has strict time limits, so practicing under timed conditions is essential.
4. Take Practice Tests – Practice tests can highlight areas that need improvement and help build confidence.
5. Seek Professional Guidance – If possible, consider enrolling in an IELTS preparation course or hiring a tutor for personalized feedback.
Test Dates and Registration
IELTS is available multiple times throughout the year in test centres across the globe. Registration is typically done through the official IELTS website or authorized centres.
To register:
1. Choose a test date and location that suits your schedule and apply early to secure a spot.
2. Pay the test fee (typically between $200–USD 250, but it varies by location).
3. Prepare the required documents for registration and bring them on the test day.
Studying Abroad with IELTS
With a good IELTS score, students can apply to universities in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Here are some of the top destinations:
- United Kingdom – Requires IELTS for student visas and is home to universities like Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial College London.
- Australia – Most universities in Australia accept IELTS scores, and it’s a requirement for a student visa.
- Canada – Canadian universities accept IELTS, and it’s commonly required for study and work visas.
- United States – While TOEFL is popular, many U.S. universities accept IELTS as proof of English proficiency.
IELTS is more than just an English test; it’s a stepping stone to achieving your dream of studying abroad. By preparing strategically, understanding the test format, and practising regularly, you can achieve a high score and open the doors to numerous global opportunities. Whether you’re aiming to study at a prestigious university, start a career, or explore new cultures, IELTS is your pathway to an exciting future.

Mastering IELTS With the Best IELTS Course
Tumblr media
The International English Language Testing System, widely known as IELTS, stands as one of the most prominent English proficiency exams globally. Whether for academic purposes, migration, or employment, the IELTS test has become an essential benchmark for non-native English speakers aiming to prove their language capabilities. This article delves into the intricacies of the IELTS test, its importance, structure, types, and how it compares to other international language assessments. Additionally, we will highlight the growing significance of online learning platforms, particularly Elmadrasah.com, in providing effective preparation for this crucial test.
The Importance of IELTS
The IELTS test is a gateway to numerous opportunities in English-speaking countries. Recognized by over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, immigration authorities, and professional bodies, the IELTS test serves as a reliable indicator of one's ability to communicate in English. Its credibility lies in its comprehensive evaluation of all language skills—listening, reading, writing, and speaking—offering a well-rounded assessment of a candidate's proficiency.
Structure and Types of the IELTS Test
The IELTS test is divided into two main types: Academic and General Training. The Academic version is tailored for those seeking higher education or professional registration, while the General Training version is designed for individuals aiming to migrate, work, or study at a secondary education level in an English-speaking environment.
1. Listening: This section tests the candidate’s ability to understand spoken English in various contexts. It includes four recordings, ranging from conversations to monologues, with questions following each audio segment.
2. Reading: Depending on whether the test is Academic or General Training, the reading section features different types of texts. Academic candidates encounter texts from books, journals, and newspapers, while General Training candidates deal with extracts from everyday sources like advertisements and manuals.
3. Writing: In the Academic version, candidates are required to describe visual information (graphs, charts, etc.) and write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem. For the General Training version, tasks include writing a letter and composing an essay on a general topic.
4. Speaking: This face-to-face interview assesses spoken English. It includes three parts: a general introduction and interview, a short speech on a given topic, and a discussion on abstract concepts related to the topic.
IELTS vs. Other Language Tests
When comparing IELTS to other language proficiency tests like TOEFL, PTE, and Cambridge English exams, several unique aspects emerge. IELTS offers a more personal and direct assessment through its face-to-face speaking test, which many candidates find less intimidating than computer-based speaking sections in other tests.
Furthermore, IELTS is available in both paper-based and computer-based formats, catering to different preferences and needs. Its scoring system, based on band scores from 0 to 9, provides a clear and precise evaluation of English proficiency, which is highly valued by institutions worldwide.
The Role of Online Learning in IELTS Preparation
The advent of digital technology has revolutionized education, and IELTS preparation is no exception. Online learning platforms have become indispensable resources for candidates, offering flexibility, accessibility, and a wealth of materials tailored to different learning styles.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in IELTS Writing and Speaking Tests
IELTS is an essential part of the evaluation for English-language proficiency, comprising tests in writing and speaking. The writing and spoken tests are structured for individuals to be assessed in a spontaneous yet spontaneous manner in their use of the English language. Many candidates prepare extensively for an IELTS test; however, some common mistakes, which might range from relatively minor errors to serious misinterpretations, can stop one from actually reaching one's target score. Thus, this article will highlight common mistakes one might make in both these sections and provide some useful tips to address them.
Section one: Common mistakes in IELTS Writing
1. Misinterpret the task question.
This is a very common deviation from the stated purpose of any IELTS Writing exam. For example, in Task 2, the general tendency is for candidates to develop a wholly generalized essay in response to only a fragment of the prompt. In Task 1, most candidates would concentrate on single details of a graph rather than make comparisons or analyze trends.
How to avoid it:
Read the prompt very meticulously several times before you start.
Underline key instructions such as "compare," "analyze," or "give your opinion."
Plan the response so that all the arguments of a question are addressed.
2. Poor Time Management:
Candidates often find themselves encountering time constraints due to spending much time on Task 1, which usually leaves little time for them to work on Task 2 that carries more weight. Others manage to finish writing but do not leave time for reviewing and thus, end up with mistakes that could have been avoided.
How to Avoid:
Devote 20 minutes to Task 1 and 40 minutes to Task 2.
Practice with a timer to have a daily rhythm.
Keep at least 5 minutes for review and proofreading at the end.
3. Lack of Coherence and Cohesion:
Coherence (logical flow) and cohesion (linking ideas), two important evaluation aspects of an essay, are often not observed by the candidates, for they tend to use much unrelated idea or keep repeating the same linking phrases, which affects the reading much.
How to Avoid:
Have a topic sentence for each paragraph.
Diverse linking words: "however," "therefore," "moreover," etc., but don't go overboard with all of them.
Outline your essay as Introduction, Body paragraphs, and Conclusion.
4. Overcomplicating Language:
Often, these candidates use complexities to impress examiners, thus making their answers vague and too contradictory to possible interpretations: many effects instead of "plethora of ramifications."
How to Avoid:
Concentrating on clarity and brevity will do.
Mix simple and advanced vocabularies suitably.
Efficiency must come first as against comprehension.
5. Ignoring grammar and spelling.
Grammatical mistakes like wrong tense use, subject-verb agreement, etc., and spelling errors can considerably affect your score.
How to Avoid:
Practice writing essays and going through them for mistakes.
Make use of grammar-checking tools at the time of preparation.
Read your work thoroughly before submitting.
Section 2: Mistakes in IELTS Speaking
1. Reciting Memorized Answers
It takes the examiner a fraction of a second to spot rehearsed answers and score the test lower because they are simply unreal. A candidate would give a pre-prepared answer for "hobby" when asked with a different question.
How to Avoid:
They're confident in speaking on different subject matters.
Understand the question and answer it accordingly.
2. Hesitations and Gaps in Fluency
The more frequent the use of hesitations, "um" and "uh," the less fluent a candidate is in the speech event. Hesitation frequently occurs when the candidate contemplates deeply about what he is supposed to answer.
How to Avoid:
Speak regularly with a partner or record yourself speaking.
Use simple sentences if you don't know, then increase the complexity over time.
3. Stressing One's Accent Too Much
Certain candidates mistake themselves just because they don't have this "perfect" accent. But pronunciation is what the IELTS Speaking test looks for, not accent.
How to Avoid:
Effective clarity and correct pronunciation would be paramount or perfect in showing the best kind of spoken speech.
Practice using stress and intonation to sound natural when speaking.
4. Responding Briefly or Obviously
Short forms like "yes" or "no" are not enough to show your proficiency in language. For example, somebody may ask what his/her famous book is, and his/her answer might be, "I like novels."
How to Avoid:
You have to give both examples and reasons for your answers.
Answering all open-ended questions in detail justifies practice.
5. Non-Verbal Void
Body language, eye contact, and self-assurance make a subtle but major contribution to your overall speaking performance.
How to Avoid:
Keep eye contact with the examiner to indicate attention.
Use hand movements as naturally as possible to reinforce points of emphasis.
Section 3: Tips to Avoid These Mistakes
Practice Understanding and Analyzing Questions: Develop a habit of breaking down prompts during preparation.
Use Mock Tests and Feedback: Simulate exam conditions to refine time management and speaking fluency.
Prioritize Clarity and Structure: Focus on organizing your thoughts logically.
Develop Strategies for Fluency in Speaking: Use prompts to practice thinking and responding quickly.
Revise and Proofread Writing: Always leave time to check for grammar and spelling errors.
Conclusion
Achieving high scores in the IELTS Writing and Speaking tests is not just about demonstrating your English skills but also about avoiding common pitfalls. By recognizing and addressing these mistakes, you can enhance your performance and build confidence for test day.
Remember, practice makes perfect! Start by applying these strategies to your preparation, and you’ll be one step closer to achieving your dream score. Whether you're aiming for a band 7 or higher, small improvements can make a big difference. You've got this!

How are IELTS essay questions commonly constructed?
Tumblr media
Navigating the complexities of IELTS essay questions can be challenging for students preparing for this critical English proficiency exam, particularly for IELTS Sri Lanka where competition is intense. Understanding the typical structure and design of these questions is crucial for success.
IELTS essay questions are meticulously crafted to assess a candidate's ability to analyse, argue, and communicate effectively in academic English. They typically follow a strategic pattern designed to evaluate multiple language skills simultaneously. Most questions are constructed around two primary components: a statement or perspective and a specific task directive.
The first element usually presents a complex topic or social issue that requires critical thinking. These topics span a wide range of domains, including education, technology, environment, social trends, and global challenges. For instance, a question might introduce a statement about technological innovation's impact on human communication.
The task directive is equally important, guiding candidates on how to approach the topic. Common directives include "discuss both sides and give your opinion," "explain the causes and suggest solutions," or "agree or disagree with the given statement." These instructions are carefully worded to test the candidate's ability to structure an argument, demonstrate analytical skills, and showcase linguistic proficiency.
Students enrolled in IELTS classes often learn that these questions are designed to be challenging yet accessible. The complexity lies not just in the topic but in the expected depth of analysis. IELTS online classes frequently emphasise the importance of understanding the nuanced expectations behind each question type.
When considering IELTS Sri Lanka course fees, students should recognise that comprehensive preparation involves understanding these question construction strategies. A well-structured response requires not just language skills, but also the ability to quickly comprehend the question's implicit and explicit requirements.
Typically, an IELTS essay question will include keywords that signal the expected approach: "evaluate," "compare," "contrast," or "argue." Recognising these linguistic cues helps candidates develop a focused and relevant response that demonstrates their command of academic English.
By dissecting these questions methodically, candidates can transform what initially appears intimidating into an opportunity to showcase their intellectual and linguistic capabilities.

Boost Your IELTS Performance: A Comprehensive Guide to Advanced Preparation
Tumblr media
Achieving a high score on the IELTS exam can be a daunting task, especially when you’re aiming for a band 7.0 or higher. Whether you’re taking the Academic or General Training version, the IELTS tests your skills in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, and each section requires a different set of strategies to master. As you aim for an advanced score, it’s crucial to adopt intensive preparation techniques, fine-tune your skills, and avoid common pitfalls.
If you’re ready to elevate your preparation to the next level, this guide will show you advanced strategies to boost your Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking scores in the IELTS exam.
1. Boost Your Reading Score: Mastering Speed and Accuracy
The IELTS Reading section can be one of the most challenging, especially with its tight time limits and complex texts. To improve your reading score, it’s important to focus on both speed and accuracy, while mastering the various question types.
Advanced Tips for the Reading Section:
Skimming and Scanning: Skimming (reading quickly for the main idea) and scanning (looking for specific details) are essential skills for answering questions quickly. Practice reading headings and first and last sentences of paragraphs to get a gist of the text.
Understand the Question Types: IELTS reading includes multiple question types like matching headings, true/false/not given, and multiple choice. Familiarize yourself with these question types and understand the common traps that examiners set, such as using distractor information to confuse you.
Don’t Over-Read: Focus on finding the information needed for the question, rather than reading every word. The IELTS exam is designed to test your ability to find and interpret information efficiently.
Build Vocabulary: Advanced vocabulary is crucial, especially for paraphrasing. Pay attention to synonyms and learn how questions are often paraphrased in the text. Building a strong academic vocabulary will allow you to quickly understand complex texts.
Practice Resources:
Cambridge IELTS Books: Use these to practice under timed conditions.
IELTS Reading Apps: Apps like Magoosh or IELTS Prep offer a wealth of practice questions and reading tips.
2. Improve Your Writing Score: From Task Response to Coherence
The Writing section of the IELTS exam is often the most difficult for advanced students, as it requires not only good grammar but also the ability to organize ideas effectively and express them clearly.
Advanced Tips for the Writing Section:
Understand the Task Requirements: Whether it’s an Opinion essay (Task 2) or a Graph description (Task 1), ensure that you fully understand the task requirements. Avoid deviating from the topic and make sure your essay responds to every part of the question.
Structure and Coherence: Organize your ideas clearly and logically. Use linking devices (however, moreover, consequently) to ensure your essay flows smoothly. The examiner should be able to follow your argument easily from introduction to conclusion.
Advanced Vocabulary and Grammar: Use a variety of sentence structures and vocabulary. Rather than repeating the same phrases, aim for paraphrasing and synonyms. Don’t shy away from using complex sentence structures, but make sure they are grammatically correct.
Practice Writing Under Time Pressure: The more you practice writing under timed conditions, the better you’ll manage your time on test day. Practice writing both Task 1 and Task 2 essays in 60 minutes.
Practice Resources:
IELTS Writing Band 9 (Book): Provides sample essays and step-by-step guides for improving your writing.
IELTS Liz: Offers tips on how to approach different writing tasks.
3. Enhance Your Listening Score: Sharpening Your Focus and Comprehension
The Listening section of the IELTS exam can be tricky due to the variety of accents and the need to quickly understand details as they’re spoken. To improve your listening skills, you’ll need to practice not only understanding the content but also retaining information under pressure.
Advanced Tips for the Listening Section:
Listen for the Main Idea: Often, the beginning of a listening passage introduces the main idea or theme. Focus on understanding the context and tone of the conversation. It helps in predicting the type of information that will follow.
Identify Key Information: Pay attention to numbers, dates, names, and keywords that may be the answer to specific questions. Don’t get distracted by less important details.
Practice with Different Accents: IELTS listening features a wide variety of accents (British, Australian, North American, etc.). Use resources like BBC, TED Talks, or IELTS Listening practice tests to get accustomed to different pronunciations and speaking styles.
Listen Actively: Rather than passively hearing the audio, try to mentally summarize the points made as you listen. This will help with remembering information and answering questions more accurately.
Practice Resources:
IELTS Listening Practice Tests: Available in books like Cambridge IELTS, or online platforms like Magoosh.
BBC Learning English: Offers listening materials for all levels of English learners, with a variety of accents.
4. Ace Your Speaking Score: Developing Fluency and Coherence
The Speaking section of the IELTS is a one-on-one conversation with an examiner. Many candidates struggle with nerves or lack the fluency required for a high band score. To perform well, it’s essential to practice speaking naturally and build fluency, while also demonstrating an advanced command of language.
Advanced Tips for the Speaking Section:
Practice Speaking Extensively: Record yourself speaking on a variety of topics. Focus on speaking clearly, confidently, and with a natural pace. Practicing with a partner or through language exchange apps can help you become more comfortable with spontaneous conversation.
Use Complex Sentence Structures: Rather than sticking to simple sentences, aim to use a mix of complex and compound sentences. This will demonstrate your ability to manipulate the language and express complex ideas.
Don’t Memorize Answers: Memorizing responses for common questions can make you sound robotic. Instead, practice speaking on topics like education, technology, and the environment. This will prepare you for unexpected questions and allow you to sound more natural.
Expand Your Vocabulary: Use a wide range of vocabulary, including synonyms and idiomatic expressions. This will show your proficiency and flexibility with the language.
Pronunciation and Intonation: Pay attention to your pronunciation, intonation, and stress. A high score in Speaking isn’t just about knowing the right words; it’s about sounding natural and being easy to understand.
Practice Resources:
IELTS Speaking Partner Apps: Apps like HelloTalk or Tandem let you practice speaking with native speakers.
IELTS Speaking Model Answers (YouTube): Channels like IELTS Advantage offer speaking practice with detailed feedback.
Final Thoughts: Consistency is Key to Advanced IELTS Success
To achieve a high IELTS score, consistent practice and focused preparation are crucial. Whether you are aiming for band 7 or band 9, each section requires specific skills that need to be honed over time. Use the strategies outlined above to target your weak areas and strengthen your overall test performance.

Understanding the IELTS Exam: A Comprehensive Guide to Mastering Your Path to Success
Tumblr media
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) stands as one of the most recognized and respected English proficiency tests globally. For students, professionals, and immigrants aiming to study, work, or settle in English-speaking countries, mastering the IELTS is a crucial step. This article delves deep into the nuances of the IELTS exam, its importance, structure, types, and how online learning platforms like Elmadrasah.com can be your key to excelling in this essential test.
The Significance of the IELTS Exam
The IELTS exam is a gateway for countless individuals aspiring to achieve their dreams abroad. Whether it’s gaining admission to a prestigious university, securing a job in a multinational company, or meeting immigration requirements, the IELTS serves as a testament to one’s English language proficiency. Unlike other English tests, IELTS is recognized by over 10,000 organizations in more than 140 countries, making it a critical credential for anyone aiming to operate in an English-dominated environment.
Exploring the Structure of the IELTS Exam
The IELTS exam is meticulously designed to evaluate a candidate's English skills across four key areas: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each section tests different aspects of language proficiency, ensuring a holistic assessment of one’s capabilities.
Listening: Comprising four recordings, this section tests one’s ability to understand conversations and monologues in various English accents. The ability to grasp main ideas, specific details, and the speaker's opinions or attitudes is crucial here.
Reading: This section involves passages from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers. Candidates are tested on their ability to understand and interpret textual information, with tasks ranging from multiple-choice questions to identifying writers' opinions.
Writing: Divided into two tasks, the writing section assesses one’s ability to describe visual information and articulate arguments in essay format. Task 1 requires summarizing data from graphs or charts, while Task 2 focuses on constructing a coherent argument on a given topic.
Speaking: This face-to-face interview includes three parts: an introduction and interview, a short speech on a given topic, and a two-way discussion. It evaluates fluency, coherence, lexical resource, and pronunciation.
Types of the IELTS Exam
Understanding the different types of IELTS exams is crucial for choosing the right path. There are two primary versions:
IELTS Academic: Designed for those applying for higher education or professional registration. It assesses whether a candidate is ready to study or train in an English-speaking environment.
IELTS General Training: Suitable for individuals migrating to English-speaking countries or applying for secondary education, work experience, or training programs. This version focuses on everyday language skills needed in social and workplace contexts.

Online IELTS Coaching in Dubai vs. PTE Academic Coaching
Planning the right English Proficiency exam in Dubai to study abroad in countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada is a crucial step to reach your academic goal. When the juggle is to choose between an online IELTS coaching in Dubai to that of the PTE Academic, you most obviously check the university’s admission criteria.
But you must consider factors like your strengths, weaknesses, test centre availability, time left for preparation, costs, test retakes, and speed of the results. Because it is likely possible that your university accepts both the exams.
In this blog, you will learn how to decide the right type of exam for admission into your dream university. So, continue reading the blog till the end for a focused preparation.
Deciding Factors to Choose Between IELTS vs. PTE Academic Exam
●      Choose Your Preference for Offline vs. Online Mode:
While both the exams test your English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills, they have different test modes. The IELTS Academic exam is available in both paper-based and computer-based modes, however, the PTE Academic is an online test.
Ensure to choose an online IELTS coaching in Dubai which prepares you to approach paper-based mode if you are suitable with traditional testing mechanisms.
●      Prioritise Your Comfort to Answer English Speaking Section:
It is important to point out that the speaking section in IELTS Academic, regardless of your chosen mode, is a face-to-face interview with the human examiner. You are required to speak on any academic-based topic, keeping in mind your fluency, pronounciation, and organisation of words.
If you are a confident English speaker, capable of handling real-world communication scenarios, and do not feel hesitant speaking to an IELTS trainer, then the IELTS test is a favourable choice. But if not, PTE Academic allows you to speak into a microphone where an AI evaluates your speaking ability.
●      Evaluate Your Strengths and Weaknesses:
Take the time to analyse your writing, listening, and reading skills as well. To begin with, IELTS Academic contains a more structured essay writing test. On the other hand, the AI-based PTE writing section evaluates clarity and grammatical accuracy.
If you are strong at structured essay writing and can think creatively, IELTS is the best choice. But you must take PTE Academic if you are strong at clear, concise writing, and prefer objective scoring.
Moreover, your decision also depends on the strong note-taking skills in the IELTS listening or ability to handle integrated-tasks in the PTE Academic.
●      Consider Test Centre Availability:
IELTS test centres are more available globally. Comparatively, PTE Academic exam centres are less in certain regions.
You must research for the available test centres in Dubai for this reason. If a test centre accommodates both the tests, confirm the test slots available before proceeding with the preparation.
●      Calculate the Time Left for Preparation:
IELTS requires more practice for its structured format. But if your grammar and essay writing is weak, you will need to dedicate more time. On the other hand, if you have limited time in hand and prefer AI-scoring for grammar and pronounciation, then PTE Academic is your best entrance test.
Nevertheless, it is recommended to enroll into a personalized online IELTS coaching in Dubai offering ample resources for the limited time preparation.
●      Consider the Exam and Coaching Costs:
You must analyse IELTS vs. PTE Academic exam fees, coaching fees, and other necessary out-of-pocket costs. While these costs are generally comparable, there are slight variations.
●      Test Retakes and Results:
If you have a month or more left to apply for abroad admissions, you can take the IELTS test. The results are usually out in a maximum of 7 days. If you wish to retake, you will have to schedule the retake a few days in advance.
But if you are just a few days away from the last admission dates for your course, then the PTE Academic is a good choice. The test offers convenience of results within 48 hours and offers retakes quickly as well.
●      Evaluate Long-term Goals:
If you plan to apply for immigration later, check if your target country prefers the same as well. In general, Australia and New Zealand universities accept PTE Academic for immigration purposes while UK and Canada lean towards the IELTS test for the same reason.
Final Words
We hope you found this blog useful and thought-provoking. As you see, deciding on one exam between IELTS vs. PTE Academic often means considering your comfort level, strengths, scoring systems, and ultimately your level of English proficiency.
We recommend taking mock tests for each of the exams in Dubai to determine which type of the format appears more natural to you. Take the next step – enroll for the free IELTS mock test or AI-scored PTE Academic mock tests.

ELPT
Jumat, 06 Desember 2024
Do what the test want you to do.
Ternyata susah, banget. Bahkan perkara tenses saja aku masih sering tertukar.
Whatever, I guess.
But it’s okay, namanya juga elpt doang. Beberapa soal pertama berhasil kulalui dengan lancar. And then…
Pintu terbuka. Ada peserta yang baru datang. Di tengah sesi listening. Hadeh. Peserta itu duduk ke tempat duduknya. Namun, dia tidak langsung mengerjakan. Ternyata dia belum siap. Egois banget.
Tingkat fokusku mendengarkan pun berkurang.
Structure 63! What!!??
You did it, and you should be proud of it!
Lalu, bagaimana dengan Ais? Ehm, mungkin bukan bagianku untuk menceritakan hasil dia. Pastinya aku tetap berterima kasih kepadanya sudah menarikku untuk ikut tes ini dan belajar bahasa inggris kembali. Semoga di tes-tes berikutnya (hopefully toefl or ielts) bisa berlangsung baik dan mendapat hasil yang aku inginkan.
Cheers!
