Why IAS Aspirants fail to clear their UPSC Examination
Behind every successful IAS officer, there will be many failure stories. Practically, it is very rare to see an aspirant who clears the UPSC in a very first attempt as UPSC examination is the toughest among all the other examinations. It doesn't mean that it is impossible to clear, but it is definitely a complicated one.
Lakhs of aspirants apply for UPSC Civil Services Exam every year. Only a few could make it till the end. Whereas, a few fail to clear Prelims and other few fail in the interview process. What does it make an IAS aspirant fail? Here we are going to discuss the reason for the failure of the IAS aspirants.
聽1. Fear
A few students fear of the syllabus and the examinations they are going to face. As said earlier that UPSC exam is the toughest exam and its vast syllabus makes students afraid of it. When fear surrounds a student, the hard work and effort which he put these days will be totally in vain. When an aspirant is scared of the exams he might forget everything his mind will be under pressure collapsing everything that he had prepared for years.
While preparing for UPSC, it is good to take up mock tests that make you comfortable with the exam and the aspirants won't be afraid of the exams too.
聽2. Not considering Prelims much
There is a myth revolving around the IAS aspirants that Prelims is just a qualifier test and it won't be that tough only the IAS main exam will be the real toughest exam for the aspirants. So, they least consider prelims and they don't give much importance to it hence they couldn't crack prelims examination. Every aspirant need to clear a CSAT examination (also called as preliminary exam) only then they are eligible to attend the main examination. IAS main examination will be very knowledgeable and subjective but if you fail in prelims you can't even reach to attend the IAS mains exam.
3. Overconfidence
There is a quote saying Overconfidence destroys everything. Those who are the top rankers in the reputed Universities also fail to crack the IAS examination. It is because of those toppers have a strong belief that they can clear any kind of examination. They feel that they know everything and they need no practice to clear IAS prelims. But it is totally different, without proper preparation it is impossible to clear the IAS examination.聽
4. Poor at time Management
Time management is one factor that makes most of the IAS aspirants to fail in the examination. People spend a lot of time thinking about the answers and solving the tough question at first. But answering the direct questions and to the question that is well known to you at first will help to manage your time. Else your time will be consumed more on thinking and thereby you lose marks and you can't make out in the examination.
聽5. No note making
You can't just memorize each and every topic as it is and write everything. You can't do that since the syllabus is so vast. If this is followed during your preparation then you are on the path to failure. You can't be able to clear your exam. Notes making is a must needed practice when you prepare for UPSC. When you take notes of each and every topic of your own, it would be helpful for you to revise the topics before your exam. It doesn't need to again run through your books for a topic instead you can just refer your notes.
聽Though there are many factors that lead an IAS aspirant to failure, the above the most common things students do. But always remember that failure is the stepping stone of success. Never get down if you fail for two or three attempts. Keep preparing and keep working hard to achieve your goal.
