Okay, so context: A few days ago I had a dream that I was back at my old job and a fire alarm went off. I went to where my work friends were standing in the parking lot and asked if any of them know what happened this time. One of them looked directly at me, his face completely expressionless and said (in a voice that didn't sound like him) "Microwave grape."

Immediately after that one of our neighbors tripped over and broke one of the potted plants in the stairwell and that woke me up. Both him and the plant are okay.

Anyway I really wanted to make something with that dream and SWTD just happened to be the only job oriented thing I could think of.

(It looked empty with just Caz and Roy and Muir and Innes just happened to be the ones I had saved references for.)

Specifically, I believe that they're winklepickers, a type of shoe that was popular among rock and roll fans in (I think) the 60s to 80s.

I only know what they're called because of Animal Crossing, but I did think that was a neat detail ^o^!

the question is. when i eventually post the relevant chapter. do i tell my readers why i am having the characters eat dinner at this specific place. or do i just not say anything.

the thing is, this is a place where my dad brought my mom to eat soup, because he found it and the food was amazing. which sounds like a normal enough thing to do, except we live in pennsylvania and this particular restaurant is in las vegas, nevada.

the story goes: dad went on a business trip. and he found this seafood bar in the middle of the casino of the palace station hotel. and the place made great soup. just fabulous soup. dad had their gumbo and immediately went "ok, how many more times can i eat this soup again before i go home," and then he got home and he said "opal. you need to try this gumbo. we need to go to las vegas." "for soup?" said my mom. "yes," said my dad, "for soup. we need to go to las vegas to eat soup." and they did! like a year later! they had granny and grandpa come to look after me and my sister for a week while they fucked off to nevada to eat soup (and do birdwatching)!

...is that a thing to include in an author's note? it's a true story but unless you know my parents, it sounds completely batshit. also, like, it was the '90s, the economy was way different then and everything was a LOT cheaper - i do not think they'd be able to do the same thing today, so i worry it is going to sound grotesquely privileged instead of, idk, definitely privileged but mostly just fucking ridiculous. thoughts? ideas? dal what the fuck is your family? a;lskjdfl;kjlksjfk

Welcome to the series I'm calling 101 Reasons I Shouldn't Be an Isekai Chosen One. I'm just going to be experimenting with different aspects of storytelling through comics, and keeping a consistent theme between the comics will make it easier to write them.

Reason 1: Decision paralysis. Making decisions is hard, especially when there are so many options I could enjoy. This is the reason I find Mutants and Masterminds so intimidating. Such open-ended character creation makes creating characters harder, not easier.

So I have a really REALLY intensely addictive personality. it Runs in my whole family and one of my really bad addictions for 7 whole ass fucking years was overwatch, like so bad that I probably only drew maybe twice a year and had super bad anxiety attacks if I didn't play the wretched thing for extended periods of time (BG3 was what saved me which is really funny). But I was talking about it in the server and our darling Squid Fucker brought up my favorite character of theirs busting into my room if I get back into it and I had to make a silly little comic about it.

and here's the conversation, I lost my shit at the mental image fr (also I love literally everyone in there, they're all so nice and I have not had a single good fandom community experience in AGES)

They write about Raphraxus! As well as a ton of their other characters [[[NSFW BTW]]] if you're into Squcking (squid fucking) or you'll read whatever the fuck you can get your grubby little hands on that even slightly resembles your hyper fixation no matter what the content is, like myself, I highly recommend them.

Duke Thomas is an amazing character and I am more than happy to help you learn more about his character!

I am by no means an expert but I can give you a place to start. He is a relatively new character (his first appearance was in 2013) so this list won't be too long.

I am generally following this reading order/list for the most part which also includes non essential appearances you can check out. They are in order of release.

Batman #37-38

We Are Robin #1-6

Robin War: (this was an event and is spread out over a number of titles so it requires its own mini reading list that you can check out if you follow this link)

We Are Robin #7-12

Batman #42-45

Batman #46-50

All Star Batman #1-9

Batman and The Signal #1-3

Batman and the Outsiders #1-17

There are a few others comics where he has an important role but these are the ones that most focus on him. There are also a few elseworld stories that feature him, but those aren't part of the main continuity so I didn't include those.

Personally I adore the We Are Robin comics because it gives us a lot of amazing new characters and some of the best Duke characterization.

My most recent story takes place in the We Are Robin arc, and that is where the majority of the supporting cast comes from. I do take elements from later arcs (such as his metahuman powers and the main villain of the story) but you don't have to read all of Duke's appearances for those elements to make sense within the story.
