hello vivid nation I RETURN also @cursedthing thank you for Everything You Do for us
Summary:
After the lawsuit, Viking wants to talk to Avid about something- Avid is, unfortunately, very bad at being interrogated. Especially when it involves Viking trapping him against the side of the banana stand.
Warnings: None
Words: 2090
Ship: Vivid
(full fic under cut)
"...So, in the end, I've realized that signing up for the Birch Box was definitely not the smartest choice I've ever made. The whole 'one-eighteenth of my soul gets taken' part wasn't fun. But hey, I got a lot of good stuff out of it, at least!" Avid laughed, while Vintage let out a very loud sigh of exasperation. She'd been able to get him out of the soul-binding contract he'd made with the Birch Kingdom, and now they were celebrating their victory. The space outside the partially-demolished courthouse was a bit chaotic, since nearly everyone was here, but the two had found a quieter spot behind the new banana stand.
A new thought struck Avid. "Actually, now that I think about it, I still need birch wood for builds. Maybe I should re-sign up for the deal. You'll just get me out of it again, right?" He furrowed his brow, tail swishing back and forth as he considered this. Unfortunately, before he could come to a proper decision, his friend made the choice for him.
Vintage grabbed the sides of his face, forcing him to look them in the eyes. "NO! Absolutely not, Avid!" They only raised their voice a little bit.
Eh, fair.
"That is not how the lawyer stuff works!" Vintage's eyes were as wide as saucers. "If you sign up for it again, I can't help you! For the love of everything, I read you parts of the terms and conditions list! They're going to open another shop, since they kind of have to, but it's probably- no it's definitely going to be another scam. And you aren't going to sign any contracts without first doing what?"
"Calling my lawyer to make sure she can get me out of it?" He tried. He snickered at the deadpan look she gave him.
"No, you're going to read through all the fine print that they set up and make sure that you're not accidentally doing anything you'll end up needing me to bail you out of. I'm just your lawyer, I'm not, like, all-powerful!"
"Yeah, if you want all-powerful, you'll have to go talk to Trog!"
When a third voice cut into their conversation, Vintage jumped, and Avid's fur stood on end. Both of them looked up.
Viking smiled, from where he was sitting on the top of the banana stand. His heterochromatic eyes were shining in amusement. "They're plenty willing to use their powers all willy-nilly, too. I'm still salty about that damn dragon egg!" He jumped down.
"Oh my gosh! Viking!" Scolding from Vintage forgotten, Avid ran forwards and swept Viking up in a hug. He took a moment to breathe in his scent, squeezing him extra-tight for a second, then letting go- but still holding one of his hands. He gently flicked one of Viking's ears, giggling at the soft twitch he got in response.
Vintage rolled her eyes at their antics, but she smiled. "Hi, Viking. Thanks for that scare, by the way, I really needed more excitement after... everything that's happened in the last hour."
"Mhm. Hey, guys." Viking rubbed his thumb on the back of Avid's hand. "Congrats on winning your trial, by the way! And Vintage, I guess I know who to come to if I ever need someone to legally bail me out of something." Vintage curtsied.
Avid smirked. "Yeah, Vintage is the best! They're going to help me escape the next Birch Kingdom scam, too!"
"Wait, the next one? But I thought they had to disband their shop?" Viking asked.
Facepalming, Vintage shook her head. "They do have to make a new shop, but knowing Milkman, it's going to be the same scam with a new name. Or with a 'the sequel' tacked onto it."
"That... unfortunately does sound like a Milkman thing to do," said Viking. "And what I said earlier still holds true, Avid's the dumbest guy alive. Dumb as a singular brick, in fact! Anyways, I did in fact come over here for a reason. Vintage, do you mind if I steal Avid away from you for a moment?" The tip of his tail flicked.
"Ah, of course! I don't mind at all. I'll let you two be, bye!" Vintage waved, before flying off into the distance. Did she wink, or was Avid seeing things?
He and Viking both watched her go, then looked at each other.
"Hi," said Avid. He gave him a goofy smile. "What, exactly, did you want to steal me away for?"
Viking's eyes changed. Avid couldn't tell how they did, but they did. The stare that he was giving him had changed from what it was just enough to be curious. But he didn't say anything yet, he just looked at Avid, who would be lying if he said he didn't feel like squirming under his steady gaze.
"Avid, I'm curious about a few things!" His smile looked sharper, now, too. His voice was lower, more threatening. Okay, this was getting weird. Viking took a step, moving to stand in front of him. Avid was now functionally trapped, with his back to the banana stand and Viking in front of him and peering down at him. "This is about the recent... strange behavior, shall I say, of Ruby and Trog. And you, too."
Shit. Viking was on to him, he was suspicious of the clones! This was bad, this was bad-
But then, Viking took another step towards him, forcing him further backwards. Avid's heel hit the bottom of the banana stand, and he looked up at Viking, who was seriously leaning down to stare him in the eye. Avid's current problems suddenly shifted from oh shit he knows I'm up to something to I'm going to have a fucking heart attack if he gets any closer.
Time to play it cool! Or at least, as cool as he could play it.
When he spoke, his voice was about an octave higher than normal. Fuck.
"Strange behavior, Viking? Whatever do you mean by that? I can assure you, we at OSSHA are just doing our jobs! Trog's just gotten tired of wasting slabs on their curvy bridges, there's way weirder things that they could be doing-"
"OSSHA? I didn't say anything about OSSHA. Or what, specifically, Ruby and Trog have been doing to act weird... why'd you immediately jump to conclusions?" Viking laughed wildly. A second later, he slammed a hand on the wall right next to Avid's head. He reached out and tilted his chin upwards with his other hand- but with his nails poking into his skin, instead of gently with his fingertips. "Why, Avid?" He narrowed his eyes as he whispered harshly, not quite in his ear.
Avid was sweating bullets, and his heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to leap out of his chest. Their faces were close enough together that he could feel Viking's warm breath on his cheeks, and he knew he was blushing like mad. Somehow, his hands found their way to the backs of Viking's shoulders.
Was Viking doing this to him on purpose? Maybe.
It was another minute or so before Avid remembered to answer.
"Um..." He was tongue-tied. "Well, I just took a random guess?"
"Try again. I've got time, I can wait for you to tell me. But you will tell me- that is, if you know what's good for you." Viking's nail traced Avid's throat, just hard enough to let him know that it wasn't hurting, but it could. Very easily.
"..."
Avid could tell he was getting frustrated, but man, he would never admit aloud that he didn't hate this interrogation.
Then, Viking's hand moved from scratching at his throat to gently covering it. He didn't apply much pressure. However, much did not exclude some.
A shiver went down Avid's spine and his eyelids fluttered shut. His tail, flicking back and forth, wrapped around something, and Viking tensed up just a hair- shit, it was probably his leg.
He had been wrong, apparently, when he thought his breath couldn't get any shakier.
"Fine, fine... don't answer. Oh, you can listen to me instead! You're hiding a lot of things. I spoke to... some other people, recently. They told me they remember you mentioning things similar to what you've told me, actually- it seems like you're working for someone. But there's no one else here that that could be!"
Avid had closed his eyes, but he could still feel it as Viking's hair touched his cheek and his lips brushed his ear when he whispered directly into it. The pressure at his throat increased just a touch. Whatever Viking had changed about his tone of voice was doing things to him. All his fur was standing on end, and he was biting his lip. A sound that he would not be calling a whimper escaped him.
Viking giggled. "You've just wormed your way out of one soul-binding contract. But I have a teeny-tiny suspicion that you've got another contract you're stuck in. You're working for someone, makes sense that you'd have gotten stuck working for them along the way. Probably just walked right into it without thinking, like you normally do. I told the truth when I said it was an endearing quality of yours, in fact it's part of what makes you irresistible!"
He was dead. Avid was fucking dead.
He half-heartedly tried to scoot away, regain at least some of his dignity. Of course, this did not happen, and rather than escaping to go have a crisis or something on his own he was stuck with Viking's entire body pressing against him.
Which totally wasn't fair at all, he hadn't even really tried anything.
"You really can't handle just a few simple questions? Avid..." Viking crooned. His grip pressed ever tighter. Avid was beginning to notice the effects; it was becoming harder to take a full breath of air.
"I'm irresistible, huh?" Avid weakly managed. He opened his eyes a crack and tried for a half a smile. Viking was too close. If the hand on his neck were to vanish, he was almost one hundred percent sure he'd lean forwards and tuck his head into Viking's shoulder.
Viking's voice dripped down into that lower, dangerous octave. "Hmm... irresistible, indeed." There was a sharp pain in his ear, suddenly.
The realization of what had happened hit him like a hammer- Viking had bit him! Avid's grip on Viking's shoulders tightened.
"I certainly find you irresistible."
If ever there was a person who could smirk out loud...
Avid's eyes flew open, and he gasped- well, he tried to gasp. It was more like a cough, in reality.
He was lightheaded, from what he assumed was a combination of the whole suffocation thing as well as the words that Viking was saying to him. His brain was buzzing, he had no idea what to say. How could he respond to something like that?!
"I can always go interrogate Ruby or Trog, you know. I can ask them why they're acting so serious about safety, in fact, it might even be easier. But I don't want to- this is so much more fun!" More laughing. Tiny black spots danced at the edges of Avid's vision. Fun, indeed...
That was definitely, totally, one hundred percent a sarcastic thought of his. He was pretty sure there was blood dripping from his ear where Viking had bit him- remembering this, of course, made his stomach feel like it was flipping over again.
He didn't really want Viking to try and interrogate the clones. Not when he was right here! Avid was supposed to be the one pinned to the wall, choking-
No! Not the right reason for having him be the one to be interrogated.
"Feel free to interrogate me any time," he wheezed. "I could get behind a regular date night like this."
"It's not a date."
"Sure about that? I'm pinned to the banana stand and you've already bitten me once-" Avid broke off, his breath having run out.
Viking took a step back, so he could look him in the eye. "And I'll bite you again, don't test me."
"Bet," Avid breathed. He closed his eyes. Only a second later he felt a nip at the corner of his jaw, Viking never having been one to back down from a challenge. It drew blood, again, too.
He grinned, dizzily. "Not a date night, my ass."
"Shut up. You've answered exactly zero questions still."
"Make me."
"Bet."

my WIP UltraSun nuzlocke (sort of)
i've realised with my new laptop I can finally continue my ultra sun game on Citra! It's kind of a softcore nuzlocke. Basically it's got permadeath but instead of catching only one pokemon each route, I catch every pokemon on the route. HOWEVER, I can't switch up my team except for when someone dies, and when they do I have to pick the new team member with a random name picker.
My current team, and the story so far told by how everyone else freaking died under the cut:
I got pretty far, and I'm currently somewhere along the Poni Island questline, can't remember where exactly. Here is my current team:
This is Snazzypants. Ever since they joined after I wiped to Totem Marowak and got an entirely new team, he's been hard carrying the run. His offensive power is starting to fall off in the later game, but fur coat is still OP.
The second longest lasting member of the team, Drugs joined after I lost half my team to the first Guzma fight. He's not quite as bulky as Snazzypants, but great at making any opponents way less good at killing all my team.
Then we have these guys who are all kind of new:
Jarvis 2 joined after I lost 4 members to Guzma at the Aether Foundation, Cole joined after I lost one member to Lusamine, Cerberus and 01000101 joined after I was careless while level grinding and lost a couple other recent arrivals.
Now for all the dead mons!
Since there are so many of them, I'll just list their levels and how they died.
Wormy the Caterpie - lvl3 - lvl3 - died to Pursuit from a Zorua I was trying to catch
Spots the Ledyba - lvl3 - lvl17 - also got Pursuited to death from one of Hala's pokemon
Flump the Slowpoke - lvl7 - lvl19 - died once again to Pursuit on the way to Brooklet hill
Molly the Buneary - lvl2 - lvl22 - died to Totem Araquanid
Em the Spearow - lvl10 - lvl12 - died to Totem Araquanid, about half an hour after replacing Flump
Donald the Yungoos - lvl3 - lvl21 - didn't survive the mandatory Battle Royale
Tom the Torracat - lvl5 - lvl25 - put up a valiant effort against Totem Marowak, but fell in the end, sealing the fate of the rest of the team
Cable the Charjabug - lvl4 - lvl22 - one of the final two to die in the Totem Marowak massacre, they didn't stand a chance
Reese the Cottonee - lvl12 - lvl20 - the second one to die in the Marowak massacre, perhaps in a futile attempt to allow a safe switch in
Bobby the Abra - lvl7 - lvl13 - another life tragically cut short by the ruthless Totem Marowak
BetterWormy the Butterfree - lvl10 - lvl12 - I am sorry past me, but WHY was BetterWormy at the front of the party for ANY part of Kiawe's trial???
Not Kukui the Hawlucha - lvl10 - lvl10 - the second one to die to Totem Marowak, probably because past me was a dumbass who forgot to grind
Priscilla the Ekans - lvl9 - lvl11 - got caught up in a Butterfree sweep, how embarrassing
Capt Beaky the Wingull - lvl6 - lvl11 - another one lost to the sheer power of that freaking Butterfree
Jarvis the Pikipek - lvl3 - lvl10 - managed to get oneshot by Silver Wind at the start of the Butterfree sweep, congratulations!
Bruce the Zubat - lvl7 - lvl10 - I'll just post my live discord reaction to Bruce's death:
Garfield the Meowth - lvl8 - lvl17 - Garfield died solely because of my own selfish greed. He was ready to evolve, but I denied him that. I wanted to wait until he was level 30, so he would learn Payday, and I wanted to keep making use of his Pickup ability which would be replaced with Fur Coat when he evolved. Fur Coat would have allowed him to survive that Wingull's Wing Attack.
Rocky the Crabrawler - lvl8 - lvl24 - Top tip! When fighting Salandit pay absolute fucking attention to your pokemon's health! They will Dragon Rage you and your pokemon will die!
Acrylic the Smeargle - lvl8 - lvl25 - sacrificed her life to give Snazzypants a clean switch in during the Totem Marowak fight
Clowny the Mr. Mime - lvl9 - lvl26 - sacrificed so Snazzypants could be switched out to get rid of his lowered defense during the Totem Lurantis fight
Orang the Mankey - lvl12 - lvl17 - got OHKO'd by Take Down
Donut the Alolan Raichu - lvl2 - lvl36 - Guzma's Golisopod made a big First Impression
Shrek the Mudsdale - lvl12 - lvl35 - got taken down by Bug Buzz during the first Guzma fight
Addie the Oricorio - lvl12 - lvl30 - Guzma's freaking Masquerain had Icy Wind too
Splat the Malamar - lvl4 - lvl39 - This guy was gonna be my Ultra Necrozma strat. I really wanted to try Topsy Turvy on it. I'd kept him safe in the back of my party since I got him after the Marowak Massacre. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten about Innards Out.
Capt Beaky 2 the Pelipper - lvl33 - lvl47 - I was fighting a double battle with some Aether people, and I thought I'd be smart and go for U-turn instead of just switching. Unfortunately someone was faster and had an electric move.
Gremlin the Sableye - lvl11 - lvl50 - one of the many lives claimed by Guzma's final battle
TotallyATree the Sudowoodo - lvl20 - lvl48 - got some good hits in, but couldn't survive until the end of the fight
Rosie the Bewear - lvl20 - lvl33 - Capt Beaky 2's replacement who managed to take down Guzma's Vikavolt before being taken down herself
Cerise the Tsareena - lvl22 - lvl49 - the final victim of Guzma's onslaught, which left only Snazzypants and Drugs alive
Rex the Tyrunt - lvl15 - lvl33 - died to a crit Surf while I was training the 4 new pokemon
Dogrock the Lycanroc - lvl14 - lvl48 - got oneshot by a critical Moonblast during the Lusamine fight
Avi the Talonflame - lvl19 - lvl46 - died to Revelation Dance while fighting a dancer to get the focus sash
Rana the Lurantis (totem size) - lvl30 - lvl47 - died to Dizzy Punch while in green health
I wonder who's going to die next!

My Top Ten Overlooked Movies With Female Leads In No Particular Order
Note: When you see this emoji (⚠️) I will be talking about things people may find triggering, which are spoilery more often then not. I mention things that I think may count as triggers so that people with them will be aware before going in to watch any of these.
Edited: 3/16/21
Hanna (2011)
So, before I get into why you should watch this movie, I just want to take a moment to say why it's near and dear to my heart. Growing up as a queer kid in the early 2000s, seeing portrayals of people like or similar to myself on anything was rare at best. It was mostly in more "adult" movies or shows that my parents would occasionally let me watch with them that I'd see any lgbtq+ rep at all. Often times they were either walking stereotypes, designed to be buried, evil, or all three.
Then here comes this PG-13 action thriller with a wonderfully written main female lead who, at the time, was close to my age, and who got to kiss another girl (her very first friend, Sophie) on screen in an extremely tender and heartwarming scene. To say the least, it was a life changing moment for me personally.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, Hanna is a suspenseful movie about a child super-soldier named, you guessed it, Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan) and her adoptive (?) father Erik Heller (played by Eric Bana) exiting the snowy and isolated wilderness of their home and taking on the shadowy CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (played by Cate Blanchette) who wants Erik dead and Hanna for herself for mysterious reasons.
It also has an amazing soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers, great action scenes, and it has an over arching fairytale motif, which I'm always a sucker for.
⚠️ Mild blood effects, some painful looking strikes, various character deaths, and child endangerment all feature in this film. However, given its PG-13 rating, a majority of viewers are presumably able to handle this one. Still, be aware of these going in.
Sidenote: It's recently gotten a TV adaptation on Amazon TV, although I have not watched it, and do not know if Hanna and Sophie's romantic/semi-romantic relationship has transferred over.
A Simple Favor
A Simple Favor is a "black-comedy mystery thriller" centered entirely around the relationship between two mothers, the reclusive, rich, mysterious, and regal Emily (played by Blake Lively), and the local recently widowed but plucky mommy blogger, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick). When Emily suddenly goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find out what happened to her new best friend.
It's a fantastic and entertaining movie throughout, with fun, flawed and interesting characters. The relationship between the two female leads is also implied to be at least somewhat romantic in nature, and they even share a kiss.
⚠️ The only major warnings I can think of is that the movie contains an instance of incest and one of the main plotlines revolves around child abuse, although both of these potentially triggering topics are not connected to each other, so there is thankfully no csa going on.
Edit: I legitimately forgot there was drug use in this movie until now. So, yeah, if that's a trigger, be careful of that.
I Am Mother
I became mildly obsessed with this movie when it came out. I Am Mother is a sci-fi film that centers entirely around a cast of two woman, and a female-adjacent robot who is brought to life on screen with absolutely amazing practical effects.
The plot is such, after an extinction-level event, a lone robot known only as Mother tasks herself with replenishing the human race via artifical means. She begins with the film's main protagonist, Daughter. Years go by as Mother raises her human child and the two prepare for Daughter's first sibling (a brother) to be born. However, on Daughter's 16th birthday, the arrival of an outsider known only as Woman shakes Daughter's entire world view. She begins to question Mother's very nature, as well as what's really going on outside the bunker she and her caretaker call home.
⚠️ This movie features child endangerment and reference to child death.
Lilo and Stitch
When I decided to add a single Disney film to this list I initially thought it was going to be hard but almost immediately my brain went to Lilo and Stitch, and specifically about the relationship between Lilo and Nani.
On the surface, this film is about a lonely little girl accidentally adopting a fugitive alien creature as a "dog," but underneath that the story is also about two orphaned sisters and the older sister's attempts to not let social services tear them apart by stepping up as the younger sister's primary guardian. Despite its seemingly goofy premise, Lilo and Stitch has a very emotional and thoughtful center. It's little wonder how this movie managed to spawn an entire franchise.
Despite the franchise it spawned (or possibly because of it), I often find that Lilo and Stitch is overlooked and many people only remember it for the "little girl adopts an alien as a pet" portion of its plot, and I very rarely see it on people's top 10 Disney lists.
⚠️ This movie could be potentially triggering to people who were separated from their siblings or other family members due to social service intervention. There's also a bit of child endangerment, including a scene where Lilo and Stitch both almost drown.
Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind
Unlike the above entry, I did struggle a little bit with picking a single Studio Ghibli film. Most media of the Ghibli catalogue have strong, well-written, unique, and interesting female leads so selecting just one seemed like quite the task.
However, I eventually settled on this particular film. In recent months, Princess Nausicaä has become my absolute favorite Ghibli protagonist and I'm absolutely enchanted by the world she lives in.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overun by giant insects and under threat of a toxic forest and its poisoness spores, Nausicaä must try to protect the Valley of the Wind from invaders as she also tries to understand the science behind the toxic forest and attempts to bridge the gap between the insects and the humans.
For those who have never seen the film, I think Nausicaä's personality can best be described as being similar to OT Luke Skywalker. Both are caring, compassionate, and gentle souls who are able to see the best in nearly anyone or anything. She's an absolutely enthralling protagonist and after rewatching the film again for the first time in well over a decade she has easily become one of my all time favorite protagonists.
Whenever I see people talk about Ghibli films, they rarely mention this one, and when they do mention it, it's often in passing. In my opinion it's a must watch.
⚠️ This movie contains some blood, and the folks who either don't like insects or who have entomophobia may not appreciate the giant bugs running about throughout the movie. (Although most insects do not directly relate to real life bugs, and are fantasy creatures).
A Silent Voice
A Silent Voice is an animated movie adaptation of a manga of the same name. While I've never had the pleasure to read the manga, the movie is phenomenal. It covers topics such a bullying, living in the world with a disability, the desire for atonement, social anxiety, and depression in a well thought out manner that ties itself together through the progression of the relationship between its two leads, Shoya and Shouko. It's also beautifully animated. Although very popular among anime viewers, I've noticed that it's often overlooked by people who watch little to no anime. So I suppose this is me urging non-anime viewers to give this film a chance.
⚠️ As mentioned above, the movie deals with bullying, anxiety, and depression (with this last one including suicidal thoughts and behaviour). If discussion of those topics are triggering to you, than you may want to proceed with caution or skip this movie all together.
In This Corner of The World
Another manga adaptation, this one taking place during WWII-era Japan. In This Corner of The World follows the life of a civilian Japanese woman, Suzu Urano, as she navigates simply living and her new marriage as the wartime invades nearly all aspects of everyday life. I think this movie is a good representation of what it must be like to be living as civilian in a country at war where the fight is sometimes fought on one's own soil. It was also an interesting look into pre-50s Japanese culture in my opinion. It's also beautifully animated featuring an art style I don't see often.
Despite it being well known among anime fans, I never really see it be brought up, even among said anime fans themselves.
Side note: I've seen many WWII dramas centering around civilians but they've almost always been about American or UK civilians. This was the first movie I'd seen that features the perspective of a Japanese civilain.
⚠️ Features the death of a child and limb loss. There's also a disturbing scene featuring a victim of one of the atomic bombs near the end.
Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki
This film follows Hana, a Japan-native woman who fell in love with a magical shape-shifting wolf-man, and her trials with raising their children, who can also magically shape-shift into wolves, on her own. It's a very heartfelt movie about a mother's love and the struggles of doing right by your children when you have limited resources to actively guide and care for them. All the characters feel unique and alive in my opinion. Also, the animation is so good that my sister and I initially mistook it for a Ghibli film.
Again, like the previous two anime entries, I don't see it ever brought up outside of anime circles.
⚠️ There's some child endangerment present in the film, although none of it is the fault of Hana as far as I can remember.
Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday is about the fictional Princess Ann (played by Audrey Hepburn), who while on a whirlwind tour of Europe, finally reaches her breaking point over having her entire life be one big schedule and all her words and actions being rehearsed. In the spur of the moment, she runs away in hopes of experiencing what life is like for other women. Unfortunately, she was previously given a sedative, meaning she doesn't get too far before it takes effect. Fortunately, she is found by the kind reporter Joe Bradley (played by Gregory Peck). Believing her to be drunk and unable to get an address from her (because she has none) he ends up taking her home for safety's sake and allows her to sleep off her suppose drunken stupor. The next day, he realizes who she is, and decides to take her on a fun sight seeing trip across Rome in hopes of getting the big scoop. Along the way, they begin to fall for each other.
This is my favorite black and white, old romance film. I think the relationship between the main characters is absolutely beautiful and I have a lot of fun watching it.
⚠️ I'm not entirely sure what kind of warning this film would need. However, it was released in 1953, so values dissonance will probably be at play for many viewers to at least some extent. For example, early in the film Ann is given sedation drugs by her doctor for her behavior, something that is very unlikely to happen today. Also, Mr Bradley deciding to take Ann home to keep her safe rather than call the police or an ambulance is a very pre-90s decision in my opinion.

The Trials of Emi
Pairing: A little Minho. A sprinkle of Frypan. Gally x Emi(OC)
Summary: Emi, her twin brother Thomas, and a small group of gladers had been rescued and taken to a safe haven. Or so it seemed. It doesn't take long for Thomas to realize something is wrong. What happens next is a true trial for all of them but Emi's trials began the moment she was ripped away from a dying Gally. Watching someone you love die right before your eyes truly takes a toll.
Finally meeting the right arm could have been the end but betrayal leads to even more chaos and loss. A new mission to rescue those taken from them leads them to a city. The last city. After Emi finally comes to terms with everything that's happened something unfolds that changes everything again. She will have to not only deal with helping her brother take down WCKD and save their friend but also deal with all the new problems in her head and her heart.
Rating: As of right now it’s at most PG13. Some strong language that’s about it but it could change.
(This is the 2nd part/book to my other story "The Maze trials: A Gally Fanfiction". This will cover the events of the scorch trails and the death cure.)
Chapter Five
The bright sun of the glade felt good on my skin. I didn't realize how much I missed this feeling. I was standing alone in the middle of the glade just looking around. The door of the homestead opened revealing a smiling Gally. He ran over to me quickly. He picked me up in his arms squeezing me against him.
"I miss you," I whispered.
He let go of me and stepped back. His hands grabbed each side of my face. He smiled at me.
"It's okay to miss me but don't stop living Emi. I want you to be happy. That's all I've ever wanted. Whatever it takes." He spoke softly as his thumbs rubbed my cheeks.
"How am I suppose to be happy again?" I asked him.
He chuckled softly.
"You'll have to figure that out my dear. Remember I will always love you." He kissed my forehead.
He started to walk away back to the homestead. He stopped about halfway then turned back to me.
"And Emi, don't stop talking to them. Don't drown yourself like that. They need you and you need them." He waved then disappeared.
"Hey! Hey! Get outta here!" Thomas shouted waking up the group.
I woke up practically laying on top of Minho. One of his arms was draped around me. I was using his chest as a pillow. I looked up seeing him now awake too.
"Good morning" he said with a smile.
I scoffed and pushed myself away from him. Pain shot through me reminding me of my open wound. I looked down to check it seeing even more blood. Some of it had gotten onto Minho while we slept. I watched Thomas slowly stand up. He turned in a circle taking in our surroundings.
"Are they gone?" Newt asked.
"Yea, we're safe for now. We should get moving. Let's pack it up." Thomas said bending down to get his bag.
Minho tried getting my attention but I was already on my feet walking towards Newt. I can't believe he let that happen. He knows how mad I am at him.
"Aris, Fry, Winston come on get up," Thomas said.
Winston groaned in pain. He looked like he was panting. Fry bent down and gave his hand to the boy to help him up. We started climbing out of whatever we had found ourselves in. At the top of the broken building I saw the most incredible yet terrifying thing. An entire city that looked like it had been blown to pieces. It looked old like it was abandoned a very long time ago. We began our trek through the open path between all the mountain-sized buildings.
"What the hell happened to this place?" Fry asked after a while of walking.
"I don't know. It looks like no one has been here for a long time." Newt answered looking up at the buildings.
"I hope the whole world s'not like this," Aris added.
"Woah, hang on stop," Thomas ordered suddenly from the back of the group.
We all stopped immediately turning to look at him. He seemed to be concentrating or listening to something.
"You hear that?" He asked looking up to all of us.
We all stood motionless trying to hear what he was hearing. Just as I started to think he was going mad I heard it.
"Everybody get down! Hide! Hide!" Thomas shouted.
We all ran diving under a large piece of concrete. It was big enough for each of us to crouch under without being seen. The sound grew louder and louder until it was directly over us. As the three aircrafts passed there was no doubt in my mind that they were WCKD.
"Their never gonna stop looking for us are they?" Minho asked.
Once they were gone we climbed back out. Thomas led on to a large hill of rubble. He started climbing.
"Everyone good?" He asked once we were about halfway up.
I heard coughing behind me. I turned to see Winston not looking so good. He took a deep breath then continued on. I tried to stay close just to keep an eye on him. We climbed over another sand dune. At the top we could see for what looked like miles. In the far distance, I saw the mountains.
"Mountains, that's gotta be it. That's where we're going." Thomas said.
"That's a long way off," Newt stated simply.
Beside me Winston seemed to be having trouble again. He pulled his bag off himself while breathing heavily. Before I knew what happened he took one step then fell face-first into the sand.
"Winston!" Thomas and I shouted in unison.
All of us dropped to our knees around him. He looked bad. Pale and sweaty. It definitely looked like he could be running a fever. I grabbed the boy's face turning him over. His breathing was ragged and sharp. A few of the boys called his name trying to get him to open his eyes or say something.
"What do we do?" Teresa asked looking around at us.
Without a word I stood grabbing Fry to help me. We quickly gathered material and roped together a way to carry Winston with us. It was slightly harder for me to do this with the use of one hand. My other arm hadn't stopped burning since I had woken up. Once it was made and we laid Winston on it Fry and Minho took the first turn pulling him.
We kept walking. On and on threw the sand. Some of the old ruins were breathtaking. It seemed to get harder to carry Winston with each step we took. It got worse when the wind picked up choking and blinding us with sand. We found shelter to wait it out and take a breath.
At that shelter Thomas and Teresa stood on top of one of the dunes talking. I noticed Newt constantly glancing towards them. I wish I could say something to help him out. I could tell Thomas didn't look at Teresa the same way he did Newt. There was affection in his eyes every time he looked or spoke of Newt. When it came to Teresa he was more curious. She was the connection to his lost memories. He needed her to remember what he had forgotten.
A loud shot rang out making me jump and grab the closest person to me which, my luck, it was Minho. Winston had woke up and immediately grabbed the gun. He was now in seriously bad shape.
"I'm not gonna make it," Winston said quietly.
We all just looked at him. What could we say? We all knew how bad he looked. We all had the same thought he just spoke but he was apart of our family. We had to try to get him to safety.
"Please, don't let me turn into one of those things." He begged reaching for the gun Fry was holding.
Newt silently took the gun from Fry then gave it to Winston. I would have done the same if I wasn't frozen in shock.
"Thank you. Now, get out of here." Winston said softly.
We packed our things leaving Winston behind with the gun like he wanted. We made it to the other side of the sand dune when the shot rang out. I jumped letting my tears spill over down my cheeks. Another one of us gone. Another glader. We kept moving knowing we had to. There was nothing else we could do.
That night when we made shelter I sat between Minho and Teresa by the fire. My tears were still falling in a steady stream. Minho had been cutting up a piece of wood for a while but decided to put it down. He scooted a little closer to me. He silently wrapped his arm around me and pulled me into his chest. At this point I didn't care about him touching me or being close to me. I just wanted to cry. I needed my moment to mourn another friend.
The next day we moved on. Always moving. It seemed like the more we walked the farther the mountains got. Our water started running out but we kept going. We were too far to turn back now. We had no actual shelter when night came so we all made our peace with the hard ground and eventually fell asleep.

2: Ink
I looked up Harry's file, I had looked at it before on the FBI page, but it was the standard documents, medical history, school records, and his background.
I pulled out the access code Mr. Callahan had given me and typed it into the systems network, instantly at least thirty more documents on Harry came up, these were the very private documents that only officials such as Mr. Callahan and the higher ranked officers were allowed access to.
The newest up to date picture of Harry had been his mugshot from six months ago, back when his skin wasn't so pale it was almost gray, or when his cheeks weren't so sunken in from malnourishment. His hair was tamed, still long, but not as long as it was now.
Harry had been an attractive guy at one point, although I would never admit that to anyone.
Reports of Harry's recent run in with the law came up and I wasn't shocked to find out he had ties with several drug busts and had been caught using more than once. It was minor charges of marijuana, nothing heavier than THC.
The next few files were smaller accusations, a DUI, and a claim of property damage, the dated year was Harry's senior year of high school, no doubt a stupid high school prank.
Nothing really seemed to stand out, but I jotted down the small accounts in the file.
The next couple of pages were more or less just added information, court dates, tickets, so on and so forth.
It wasn't until about the fifth page I found the one document that could be my potential next lead.
Mr. Samuel Tracey, the owner of the handgun found in Harry's car that night.
It looked like I was going to have to pay Mr. Tracey a visit.
Samuel Tracey lived six blocks from my apartment, he wasn't hard to find.
I knocked on his door and waited patiently, I could hear shuffling from the other side. Finally a gruff voice hollered "Who is it?"
"Detective DeLaney. I'm looking for a Samuel Tracey." I said holding up my badge to the peephole, the deadbolt clicked and the door cracked open before an old man with a beard submerged from behind it.
He was wearing glasses and a sweater vest, those were the first things I noticed about Mr. Tracey.
"What do you want?"
"Mr. Tracey, have you ever seen this man?" I asked holding up a picture of Harry from the folder in my hands.
Tracey studied the picture for a second before nodding slightly.
"I've seen him. Why? What has he done?"
I looked around, his house was located on a busy street, cars and people passing by.
"It's kind of a personal matter, mind if I come inside?" I asked and he paused before slowly moving out of the doorway allowing me to step inside.
His home was warm, and smelled old.
"Have a seat." Tracey grumbled before taking a seat himself on the recliner across from the couch.
"So what's he done?"
"Well, Mr. Tracey-"
"Call me Sam." He corrected.
"He was found about six months ago with a handgun in his car, this particular handgun belonged to you." I said and he sighed a long exasperated sigh.
"Damn kids." He mumbled under his breath.
"Excuse me?" I asked and he rubbed his hands together sitting forward.
"Harry and my boy were friends, Douglas," He said gesturing to a picture of a young man about Harry's age hanging on the wall.
"Douglas was killed about two months ago in a drug heist." Tracey said clearing his throat and I instantly felt sympathy for him.
"I'm so sorry."
"No, he was always getting into trouble, hell from the time he was in elementary school I was getting calls for his behavior, I didn't expect much more out of him as he got older." He explained, I noticed then the bottle of scotch and glass sitting on the coffee table. Mr. Tracey poured himself a glass before offering me some which I declined.
"My wife Laura," He continued, "died giving birth, leaving me to raise Douglas. I tried my best by him, worked three jobs to give him the best life I could give him, but he took it for granted." He said taking a sip of his drink.
"Mr. Tra- Sam," I corrected, "You said Harry and your son were friends?" I asked and he nodded.
"Harry and Douglas went to school together, and they were friends all the way up until about six months ago when Harry disappeared. They would hang out after school and once they graduated my son and Harry would hang out almost every other day or so, no doubt both doing things they shouldn't do, which leads me to ask again, what did Harry do?"
I sighed and opened the folder containing Harry's file.
"About six months ago the police found Harry's car outside of a Mr. Wesley Langston's home, he had been waiting there for about four hours for Mr. Langston to return home, and he had your handgun in the car with him. He also had some rope, sheets, duct tape, other various items, so the intent was clear what he was planning on doing." I said and Mr. Tracey's features changed to surprised by the news.
"Harry?" He asked and I nodded.
"Harry was such a good kid, I mean, he got into trouble like Douglas but Harry would never try to kill anyone.."
"I would like to think so too Mr. Tracey, but as of right now Harry is still pledging guilty until proven otherwise." I said and Tracey sighed.
"I don't know anything about the gun. I realized it was missing about two weeks ago when I was going through my things trying to find something to sell to pay my rent," he said taking another sip, "since Douglas passed I've let myself slip, I lost all three of my jobs, of course, the government takes no pity on people like me. So I decided to try and sale some of my things to get money to get back on my feet until I could find a job, I didn't even know the gun was gone until then." He explained and I nodded sympathizing.
"Well, the gun will stay with the police for evidence until the trial is over and decided, if you want it back-"
"I don't want it back." Tracey said cutting me off.
"Tell them to keep it, I'll even sign my name over to them, I just, I don't want it back. I'm old," He started, "I'm old and I'm at the point now, my wife is gone, my son is gone, if someone breaks into my house with the intent to kill me, well, I'll be ready." His eyes were misty and I swallowed a lump, such a sad thing when someone doesn't value their life anymore after all the trials and tribulations they had been through.
"I understand." I said finally, gathering my things to leave.
"I'll let the police department know that you want to sign the title over to them, I'm sure someone will contact you within the next week or so to do it."
Tracey nodded and then he too stood up.
"I'm sorry I wasn't more help." He said and I shook my head.
"No, you were a good help, I can mark this off my list." I said and he smiled a small smile then offered to walk me out.
"Thank you for your time Mr. er, Sam." I corrected.
"You're quite welcome Ms. DeLaney."
I headed to my car, it had started to rain, shocker.
My phone began to ring and it was Lennon.
"Hello?"
"Good morning." He said from the other end and I could practically hear his flirty smirk.
"Are you off today?" I asked.
"I am, I was actually wondering if you wanted to get some lunch?" He asked and I wanted to say yes, but I knew I had far too much research to do.
"I would love to, but Callahan has me on Harry search all weekend."
"Oh, I understand." He said sighing.
There was a silence.
"So I'm guessing our dinner plans are off for tonight then?"
I felt my heart sink, I had forgotten about our date.
"Tristan I-"
"No really, it's fine." He said sincerely although I knew he was really disappointed.
I thought about it for a minute.
"You know what? How does takeout sound? My place tonight? Maybe you can help me with my research." I said and I heard him chuckle.
"Sounds great. Seven?"
"Seven." I agreed before hanging up.
I drove to the library, it was always quiet there and I figured I could get some more research done.
The wind whipped around me creating goosebumps on my arms and legs, I was glad I had chosen to wear slacks today.
As I stepped through the library door, the warmth welcomed me, I always silently adored libraries, the smell of books and the serene calm of the silence of those going into parallel universes created in their minds by the turning of each page.
The librarian, Doris, knew me well, she lived in our building for while after Devlin and I moved in and I had come to this library many times in the past to do research on cases. She smiled fondly at me as I walked over the help desk.
"Detective DeLaney nice to see you."
"Doris, I told you, call me Avery." I said smiling and she laughed.
"I'll try to remember that."
I smiled at at her and headed over to the table I usually sat at, pulling out my laptop and connecting it to the internet.
The next four hours I spent looking up every single detail I could get about Harry, his mother Anne, his sister Gemma, his father Desmond, all of the people in his life. There was nothing out of the ordinary, which only infuriated me more that I wasn't getting anything.
My cell phone buzzed in my pocket and I stepped outside to take the call, it was Devlin.
"Hey Ave, I'm on lunch wanna grab something?" She asked and I thought about declining but the growl in my stomach told me otherwise.
"Where?"
**
I met Devlin at Wahaca, a Mexican restaurant, she was sitting in a corner booth clad in her scrubs, today was Minnie Mouse.
"I ordered you a tequila sunrise." She said smirking and I rolled my eyes.
"It's midday."
"And? You walked here didn't you?"
I started to protest but the waitress reappeared with a large glass of orange and red liquid, an umbrella and orange wedge sat on top.
"Thank you."
She took our order before disappearing again.
"So, any news on Styles?" She asked dipping a chip in salsa.
"No, and the only lead I got turned out to not really be a lead at all. Turns out the gun that was on him belonged to a friend of his father, his son, Harry's friend, was killed a couple of months ago and he doesn't want the gun back." I said and she looked sympathetic.
"How sad."
"Tell me about it."
"So what now?" She asked and I shrugged tugging on my hair.
"I have no idea Dev, Callahan wants all this information on Styles by Monday and I have nothing."
"What about the other guy? Langston right?"
"I haven't done a lot of research on him yet, but the police already talked to him and said he cleared." I said and she nodded.
"You should still do some research just in case they missed something."
"You're right." I agreed and the food arrived.
We ate and talked some more about the case and her job.
"I'm telling you, if he asks again I'm tempted to do it." She said and I laughed.
"I think you should, he's good looking, smart, he's obviously got money.."
"Yeah, yeah." She said waving her hand.
"What about you and Officer sexy?" She asked talking about Lennon, I could feel my cheeks reddening.
"He's actually coming over tonight."
Her eyebrows lifted and she smirked.
"Oh really? Should I occupy myself with something tonight and leave you two...?"
"No, it's not like that." I said rolling my eyes, "He's just coming to help me with the case."
"Mmhmm, I hope you shaved your legs."
I rolled my eyes but could feel my cheeks blazing again.
"I mean it's not like you haven't-"
I blushed even harder and avoided her gaze.
"Oh my God, you haven't slept with him yet? Seriously?"
"Shut up." I said and she burst into a fit of giggles.
"Ave! Get on it! I mean literally get on it. "
"Shut up!"
"I'm just saying!" She said throwing her hands up and then checking her watch.
"Shit, I have to get back to work."
I nodded and slid out of the booth behind her, laying a tip on the table as we walked out.
"I'll see you at home." I said and she shook her head.
"Oh no, I'm not coming home until late, I'll leave you and Officer Hot Pants to it."
I smacked her on the arm and she laughed again before hugging me and departing in the opposite direction to her car.
The walk back to the library was short, but I was freezing by the time I got there.
**
My muscles were stiff from sitting so long and when I checked the time I jumped in panic to realize that it was going on five thirty.
I put my laptop back in my bag and my things before waving goodbye to Doris and leaving the library.
The air outside had dropped measurably and I shivered getting into my car putting the heat on full blast.
When I got to the apartment I took a quick shower, shaving my legs I felt the heat return to my cheeks, Devlin could be right.
**
I was in the kitchen when I heard the doorbell buzz and I headed to the speaker.
Come on up." I said and within a few minutes I heard a light tap on the door.
I opened the door, expecting to see Tristan on the other side, but who was there instead had my heart pounding, my head swimming, and the feeling of vomit creeping up my windpipe.
He was leaning up against the door frame, his arms crossed, clad in a white tee shirt and a pair of black jeans; his inky tattoos snaked up his arms and across his torso visible through his thin tee shirt. His hair was now tamed and swirled in waves around his face, a smirk placed on his full lips, his green eyes burning dangerously into mine.
"Hello Avery." Greeted Harry.

hello! i'm very new to seventeen and the whole fanbase and i've learned their names only few days ago and i still mix them up sometimes lol. i wanted to know a bit more about the whole fanbase, inside jokes and the boys too :) i hope you can help me out a little and i hope that i'm not bothering you! have a nice day and thank you if you answer ♥ and if you don't have time or interest in answering this maybe you could recommend me a blog who would do so instead? thanks again ^^
ahh a new carat im bursTING
and dont worry youre not bothering me at all dont worry! I’m glad you ask me honestly!
So um i’ve known the boys since around 2013 lmao I saw a gif of mingyu and was like wHO IS THIS FIne SPECIMEN but yk at the time he was just known as mr. wristband lmao rip *war flashbacks to watching seventeen tv at 5am without english subs*but I’m pretty forgetful and some of these stuff were a while ago ;;;; im sorry ;; If anyone has more to add please reblog this an add some im sorry ;A;;;
Firstly, I recommend going through pledis17′s faq page, about page and member profiles it’s really helpful! Also go through their tags for official pictures, fantaken pictures, fancams, videos (including eng sub!) and a lot of their other content!
I also recommend looking at some fyeah blogs and their member profiles as well. I mentioned pledis17 above but there’s also: @fy-scoups, @jeonghandata, @joshua-data, @fy-junhui, @fyhoshi, @fyjeonwonwoo, @fywoozi, @fyseokmin, @fuckyeahmingyu, @fyeahthe8, @datakwan, @v-hansolchoi, @dinodata, @fyjihan
Obviously there’s more but those are the ones I tend to use the most!
The rest stuff is under the read more because it came up to too much im sorry ;A:;
Ok fandom wise, as far as I know from that time to now carats are literally one of the nicest fandom’s I’ve ever been apart of like literally I love them so much. The fandom isn’t perfect, there’s some really not-so-nice fans like some who sexualise the members and like fanwars or yk have done some really shitty things (im not gonna go into detail but I know a few things) but the good fans really out weigh them! Don’t be intimidated to come of anon and talk to me or other members of the fandom trust me you won’t regret it at all!
So I mentioned Seventeen TV earlier and basically before seventeen debuted they had a program that aired on ustream that basically showed them practicing, playing games and other things as well. It was really entertaining and I really enjoyed it! Like seriously you should watch it it’s really funny I’m not even jokingg.
Sadly, the ustream channel has a password now bUT you can watch some clips or full episodes here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here just to give you a few (I tried to give you as much as I could find really ;A:;;) but really youtube has a lot of videos on it.
I forgot to mention but during the duration of seventeen tv there were other member but subsequently they left due to various reasons. These members include: Samuel (who was part of the duo 1punch which has now broken up, was on produce101 season 2 and has recently debuted with a bomb ass song), Doyoon (he is training to become an actor i think), Dongjin and MingMing.
They also had another predebut program called Andromeda. Subs can be found here
Right before seventeen debuted a program called Seventeen Project aired. Basically they go through a lot of trials and tests (? i think?) to get them ready for debut! You can watch it subbed here. You should definitely watch this one because you get to know the boys a little better.
For inside jokes this list on amino is literally a god sent but i was updated around january of this year. Speaking of amino, there’s a timeline on it, here. It’s outdated by a year but it’s really helpful as well. (Btw my favourite inside jokes are probably KIMBAP KIDDING and drink water lmao).
I also recommend watching all like17sub’s videos and what17says’s videos as well. As they’ve been subbers in the fandom for a fairly decent amount of time.Kwonvely is a more recent subber but I recommend you watch their subbed videos as well!
Svtunited subs and SVTdiamond subs haven’t updated in a while but they still have a significant amount of videos, especially from the earlier days!
You can also watch subbed videos from here, here, here, here, here, hereOf course there’s more channels with subs but this is all I can think of.
A really nice way to know the members is through their Vlive channel where they do various live streams. Sadly, some vlives you have have to pay for called vlive+ because vlive likes to make us suffer BUT you can find some of the vlive+ videos in full here. The videos on Vlive are already subbed thank god.
The boys have had a reality show One Fine Day and a more recent one One Fine Day 2. They also have an ongoing series called Going Seventeen. On their Vlive+ there’s a series called ‘Where is my Friend’s home?’ where they basically visit the members’ hometowns (they mostly eat tho lmao). I believe minicarats only has the perf team’s one up right now but I believe the hip hop and vocal teams’ will come out soon. Someone uploaded theirs on youtube but obviously the channel got terminated.
They’ve released some DVDs as well which I totally recommend you watch. Seventeen Boy’s Wish CONCERT (1) (2) (3), Shining Diamond Concert (1) (2) (3), Seventeen’s 2017 Season Greetings.
ALSO a great way of getting to know the members more is probably from mackenzie - ww’s why we love seventeen series, here, on youtube.I would also recommend her 10 reasons to love seventeen series here as well. Another good one is LoliKitty’s english time series as well, here. (IT kills me everytime lmao). Lolikitty has only 2 kpop meme origins but it explains 2 fandom jokes, jisoos christ and headlines headlines in a really funny way lmao.
You can also watch IGOTBTS MONTEEN’s Seventeen - Funny and Cute moments series.
Also in case you wanna know my favourite moments that I really love it’s: When sehun mistook jeonghan for nct’s johnny. You can watch it here and die lmao. Also when vernon slapped seungkwan’s ass it was the bES t.
So uh thats all I can remember off the top of my head really ;;; I’m sorry I know I definitely forgot some things I’m really sorry ;; I’m sorry if I wasn’t much help ;;
I don’t know much people who’ve known them since predebut but the blogs I know that I’ve seen during the debut era or at least around 2015 (and are still active) (i think i’ve seen them around since then I’m really not sure well except for the user junghan lol I definitely know they’ve been around since then) are probably: @junghan, @jungahns/@jeongahn (it’s the same person lol), @pledisseventeen, @hanwooz, @17dad, @jeonghan-1004svt
I really recommend you check them out! They’re really awesome blogs! I think you can ask them to verify anything I said or to give you more info
#replied#IM SORRY IF I SUCKED I REALLY TRIED TO GIVE YOU ALL THAT I REMEMBERED#compilation#i just tagged it as that so i can see it later in case lmao#AGAIN IM SORRY#Anonymous
