I really like that they made Jor-El speak Kryptonian and Clark unable to understand him. The whole "aliens speak English" thing that happens in every goddamn media has bothered me all my life. Ik sometimes Clark just gets zapped in the brain for insta-second language but that always felt like a cheap shortcut.

Jor-El had a lot on his mind when he set up that magic spaceship okay. The world was ending and he was trying to do as much as he could before time ran out so he could be there for his son. He was rushing. He likely didn't consider Kal would be raised with a whole different language and not know any Kryptonian nor have anyone to teach him.

Imagine you and scaramouche have a language barrier and only talk through translations and one day he started learning english so he can express his feelings to you

"I r-rye— I ryek yu— " but he's having a hard time pronouncing it.

thinking about Charles never having learned his mother tongue properly, only being able to speak it in broken bits, because his mother never got to teach him and his father never encouraged it. and he went to some British boarding school where he was certainly not going to learn from either.

then, after death, he wants so desperately to learn it, to speak it, to connect to himself in that way. and he has the time now.

Edwin offers to help him. They learn it together, spending nights going over lessons. It becomes their thing, their way to communicate with each other when they don't want other people to understand them (and for shits and giggles).

thinking about Charles connecting to his culture in this way with Edwin, because Edwin wants to learn about Charles, wants to help him with this.

ps: and then (ty @hartigays for this one teehee) established relationship payneland spending time together, Charles running his hands through Edwin's hair while Edwin tries to get them through another lesson. it becomes too distracting and they end up foregoing it for a bit to fucking kiss about it instead.

I was working on my commission rates post when I realized I'm in desperate need to update my portfolio. Oeps. While I have a lot of fully rendered stuff, my simpler drawings and sketches are all over the place style-wise so I need to get consistent with that. This piece is more or less how I'm gonna handle sketch commissions (if I ever get any).

Fandom-wise I'm completely OOTL so I don't know what's going on here lol. I've watched Ahsoka, TBB too, I dropped Acolyte after episode 2 because I was busy but I don't feel like returning to it yet 😅 Also House of The Dragon and KDramas have completely possessed me. I kinda want to draw HOTD and Game of Thrones fanart too.

I'm trying my best to finish my commission info as soon as possible but I kinda got stuck doing 10 different things at once because I'm desperate to earn some money. I'm broke.

As for what you were saying about The nose and Mouth being on the same line: I'm imagining what you're talking about is the line starts at the tip of their nose and goes down to their chin? Kinda like some anime styles? My recommendation would be to do what I show above: Draw an egg-ish shape. And the make sure to draw the nose as a Spike/Orb/Whatever shape is your dream desire, popping out of it. Kinda think of it like a mountain in the middle of a flat Plane. Sticking out like a sore thumb. Besides that!!! References are your best friend!! Reference other artists!!! Reference IRL people!! And keep on keeping at it!! Like I said, I used to be TERRIBLE at drawing them, and here I am now :D I'm not always happy with them, and sometimes I still hate how I draw faces (working on that tho) but I'm miles better than when I was a kid. on dragona

i managed to track down some pictures of the jojolands raws, and specifically one of the pages where jodio talks about dragona. i think ultimately we’ll have to wait for more to get a real read on his gender identity and presentation, but i wanted to see what the original japanese was and what it said for myself

here is where jodio is talking about how his mom can live a peaceful life because of what he and dragona do. in the first bubble he starts with “オレたち兄弟” (oretachi kyoudai). the key word here is 兄弟, which just means sibling(s). so he says “we siblings” (or, given context, could also be “we brothers”). regardless, this phrase is gender neutral

in the second one, he says “オレと兄” (ore to ani). this is why i’m choosing to use he/him for dragona as of now, because 兄 means big brother, and as far as i know, nothing else. i’d translate this as “me and my brother” (or if we’re trying to be grammatically correct, “my brother and i”)

in this bubble, jodio again says “兄”, which, if you look up in a dictionary, only translates to older/elder/big brother. 

i think you could’ve argued otherwise if jodio had called dragona 兄貴 (aniki) because that once can be a little more ambiguous in terms of familial relationship and gender, but just 兄 alone reads to me like dragona is jodio’s older brother. i also don’t really think that jodio is purposely misgendering dragona.

given what we know so far about the characters, i think there’s enough evidence to say that dragona identifies as a boy, but enjoys presenting feminine. so i’m going to be using he/him for dragona unless something contradicts that in later chapters
