''I'm a star'' - Wish

This is a part to my previous post. You don't have to watch the previous and the upcoming post to understand this one. I'm making a post about each song from the movie Wish and going into detail as to why I think they're ''not good'' to say the least. I'm not saying that singer or the music is terrible. I'm focusing on everything wrong with the lyrics. If you're able to enjoy a song because it sounds nice that's fine. But because Wish is a musical the purpose of a song is to help tell the story. Of the lyrics are confusing and contradicting the plot will suffer.

1. Valentino is contradicting himself. One moment he sings that he knew the entire time and joins in explaining that we're all stars but there are moments when he's as confused as Asha.

2. A butt joke + Lion King reference.

3. Those are North American/USA native animals and with how small the island is I'm not sure it would be able to house so many animals. It's a callback to how in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs animators used animals they knew, like racoons. Even tho they shouldn't be in Europe, especially when Americas haven't been discovered yet.

4. They want to superficially be ''like the movies from the past'' but it actually shows how out of touch those filmmakers are that they don't know what made those classic movies special. Animals who fallowed Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora were their friends because they were so kind. Are those animals Asha's friends or just random animals that decided to sing exposition at her?

5. I also hate ''Get that through your system!'' ''Solar!''. It doesn't work! It's a ''solar system'' not ''system solar''! He should have interrupted earlier. Yet again, modern talk and trying to sound cool. How do those animals know so much about space and have modern scientific lingo for it?

6. ''And If you just see the mushrooms than you'll understand'' What does that mean? That we need to look to nature for answers? Is Asha high? Those mushrooms are creepy!

7. ''We eat the leaves and they eat the Sun'' (While showing the Moon because the song is at night. I guess the Moon is reflecting Sun's light but it's still contrived.) It's too confusing for small children and too simplistic for adults (or rather anyone who is knowledgeable about space and biology). Mice aren't little pure vegetarians. ''They eat the Sun'' because photosynthesis. I get what the song is trying to say but it's so clunky.

8. Just awkward things that are supposed to be funny. A bear with a gay lisp going ''YeaS''. That one stupid/high dear the goes ''You're a star.'' I understand using different voices for differentiate characters to show their characters and emotions but it doesn't work because it's the first time we see those characters, so it comes out of nowhere. Compare it to how different soldiers sang in ''I'll make a man out of you''.

9. ''If I'm explaining it poorly, I'll let Star do it for me'' again it's like ''It's unlikely that you'll be unhappy''. What's with the lack of confidence in their writing!?! It's as if the writers know this song doesn't explain anything.

10. Also, in a good song ''I'll let Star do it for me'' would be a transition into the Star singing but because Star is mute and can only use sound effects she doesn't sing. What's the point? Star doesn't explain anything!

I have a theory. A FILM THEORY!

For those who don't know, in an early concept art, Star was supposed to be a boy. But not any average boy able to talk. He was supposed to be shapeshifting spirit and a young version of Ash's grandfather. They supposedly changed him from a boy into a star from Mario because he resembled genie too much.

That explains the weirdness of the song. It was probably supposed to be him shapeshifting, making voices and that's why the animals know so much about space. It was supposed to be him singing. And after ''Let the Star do it for me'' he would star singing.

But I think that change goes deeper than that. He so clearly was changed from a human to a literal star so it can be another cute marketable thing besides Valentino. They can't say it outright so they make excuses. They could've made him mute, use sound effects and body language.

I think they also changed star from a boy into a cute sidekick, so people wouldn't think it's a romance movie because . . . sexism. I understand not all stories need a romance plot or subplot but it has been over 10 years since the last romance in Frozen and even longer since a good romance in Tangled.

One other reason I think they changed star from Asha's grandpa spirit into a cute sidekick because it was supposed to be a twist. And Disney learning the wrong lesson decided that ''twists are bad''. Completely omitting that the bad writing is the problem.

Also, we know internet. If the trailer dropped showing some cute and emotional moments between Asha and Star (her young grandfather) without reviling they're actually related because that would spoil the twist, people would start shipping them. And then the twist would come out. That would be awkward to say the least.

SO. UNDERHERO.

When i first heard you talking about this game, i was still kinda in undertale recovery so i thought jt was an undertale fangame but in a more fantasy classic rpg-style

Very clearly i was dead wrong lmao

I genuinely like the premise of a young mook killing the hero and taking their place, and the artstyle made it REALLY appealing to me! Then once i learned it was adjacent to the mario and luigi rpgs i was pretty excited!

The world is such a fun place, with the villain hq being like an office building and the other worlds are cool in their own way, especially the ghost world but I'm incredibly biased lmao. The characters are fun, too! Cereza especially was great, and of course i too love puzzleman lol

The gameplay is fun! The battle system is unique and interesting while still having a good ol rpg kick to it, and i love that! Though admittedly it feels weird that the game is so low level-oriented, i feel super weird about beating the final boss at level 16 lol

The music... had its ups and downs for me. Some songs were genuinely amazing, but others just kinda felt boring

Of course, the game itself isnt perfect. Sometimes it can feel kinda bland, they really didn't try with the pause screen and im not the biggest fan of the ui (the mask kid's mask staring at me in the upper left corner is... unsettling, imo), and i never really got over how floaty and mildly sluggish the game could be. Also the physics were weird. Also i don't really like world 3 all that much lol

But overall this feels like that game that you look at the box art of while at toys r us, beg your parents to get it for you, they oblige, and you adore it and wanna talk about it to your friends and they have no idea what you're talking about, and you feel alone in loving it until you go online and either find a bustling fan community or find out a big youtuber made a video on it and new fans are entering the series nonstop

Anyways i can totally see why you love this game and while i don't think it'll effect my brain as much as it did yours, i had a great time with it and definitely wanna reccomend it to friends and stuff!

Winx S1 Rambles

Yep, I'm doing this again but with Season one this time cause it has been far too long since I've watched this era of the show plus @yantarnii promised some gold frames which should be fun. Now full disclosure I'm watching the 4kids dub as I've never watched this dub and I wanted to expirience it since some people seem to like it, so if I refer to a line that isn't in the dub your familar with, that's why. I'll only be doing the first episode for now, as a bit of a teaser till I can really get into it and such.

Starting off with a positive of the dub, the intros got a cool song, while the CONSTANT "We are the winx" get's old the sequence referring to each girl is cool "Magical Flowers, Digital Powers, Rhythms and Tunes, The Sun and The Moon, Keep on searching far and wide for the Fire burning deep inside" I like stuff like that, though the lack of Aisha is already making itself known unfortunately. This is gonna be so weird. :(

I know I'm not the only one to note this but Gardenia looks so much more unique in the first three seasons, a ton of warm greens and yellows, make it feel like, well a garden. It's cool.

Okay three things here, Kiko looks completely fine despite being terrified seconds prior, and Bloom brings her suddenly complete apple with her despite biting into it instead of putting it in her now empty bike basket. Good to see inconsistency was pretty common already

Not Stella making her debut by kicking a demon across a clearing, again OG Stella was so cool.

Also is it just me or were the winx more powerful in their base forms then they are after Enchantix, Stella clears half a dozen monsters in one spell and I'd love to see Sirenix do that and such.

Buff Kiko, that is all I will say.

Bloom is both floating and on the ground at the same, it's hard to see with all the light but it's there.

Bloom hitting the imp so hard it literally dissappears is hillarious but honestly this kinda makes me want the Winx to have some more physichal weaponry, it would avoid all the spamming of energy blasts we get in later seasons.

Stella already has her scepter, Maybe a sword for Bloom, classic fairytale and all. Not sure if Flora or Aisha for a whip, both could work. Musa could have like one of those harp bows that she also plays for spells and stuff. No idea for Tecna though, maybe like an arm blade? Idk I'd love to hear any ideas you may have in replies tho.

The lighting of this season is beautiful btw.

Either Blooms hair is absolutely sopping wet or she needs to get a new robe, there are drops going through her hood.

Oh right Mitzy. Who fun fact voices her, Icy, Musa AND Digit in season 2. Girl got range.

Oh and then the Hunter Troll, with a... very uncomfortable looking design. Who approved this, I know he's a monster and all but he's somewhat humanoid so this design still makes me feel weird everytime he's on screen, just give him pants or overalls like Knut has.

How do you guys feel if there is a SMG4 fangame where it is a fan-sequel to the Mario Simulator Interactive, but it is now a Puzzle/Adventure(?) RPG game, but has the Henry Stickmin multiple game over gimmick?

I know that Newts_Tesco is making one (in fact, I'm in their discord server just to see the game development/progression, which I am loving it so far), but this one is more of a callback to the Mario Simulator Interactive, than the one they are making, since I love how the game itself has multiple endings/game over, which gave me the Henry Stickmin vibe (also, it maybe kinda fits the SMG4's humor aesthetic Ig?) so yee...

On the Koopalings and Mario Canon

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the Koopalings and their relationship with Bowser, and it poses a really interesting question about the Mushroom Kingdom as we know it.

I haven’t played TOO many Mario games personally, but I do know from research that the Koopalings, in the games they debuted in, were canonically Bowser’s kids. No question. Yet in other games, more recent ones, they seem to be unrelated, calling him ‘boss’ and 'Lord Bowser’ and such. Is this a retcon? An oversight?

Turns out, it’s entirely possible that both are true. Sometimes they are his kids, sometimes they’re not. It just depends on which universe you’re looking at.

For clarification, let’s look at Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam. This game specifically confirms that there’s more than one version of the Mushroom Kingdom within the Mario canon. In this case, it shows that the Paper Mario games are they’re own universe, separate from the rest of the Mario story. Now on it’s own, that wouldn’t do much to confirm the existence of more than TWO canons, but it’s not the only game to draw attention to this idea.

Super Mario Galaxy talks about Universes being reborn, but in addition to the end of that game, it’s actually implied to be the case made for the second game’s story as well. The comet only passes by the Mushroom Kingdom once every hundred years, and Mario in Galaxy 2 is DEFINITELY not over a hundred at this point. So this must be a different Mario, a different universe. Even more likely considering he doesn’t seem to know Rosalina at the end of the game.

So if it’s possible for there to be at LEAST three different Mushroom Kingdoms, what’s to say that the Koopalings relation to Bowser isn’t a variable in the equation? Maybe whether they’re related to him or not is a way to tell what games take place in the same universe.

Then again, they aren’t in all the games, so there’s a lot of guessing involved here. Again, not an expert, just think a bit too much about this kind of stuff.

honestly i could sorta care less about anything that was talked about for the first half besides mario robot soccer. it looks kinda cute (also front mission remake seems cool even if i prob wont play it).

but then it got to chrono cross and i started cryin. the rumor seemed like such an obvious lie, so i was so surprised n happy! and the inclusion of radical dreamers makes it extra special. fingers crossed that this could hint at a chrono trigger remake. or a chrono 3. regardless it looks great and i think some ppl are really sleepin on how big a deal it is that square is finally acknowledging chrono again.

after chrono cross was announced it was hard to come down. i just loveddd this direct. kirby continues to look good. tho it really is obv the spiritual successor to mario 3d land, so it doesn't wow me at all sorry.

the live a live remake, on the other hand, DID wow me. like what the fuck. i just never expected it? and it looks REALLY GOOD. like i'm probably def gonna get it. so cool! just... wow.

klonoa was another awesome surprise. like the sheer number of remakes/ports/sequels of true classics was starting to het out of hand. just what the fuck. klonoa is so cute n good n i'm excited.

i think i might be out of order at this point (blame shitty news sites for always neglecting details), but the portal stuff was cool. but it also confused me! why is valve putting out games on switch right as the steam deck releases? maybe they just really don't want to make nintendo think they're trying to compete??? kinda silly since the natural competition is unavoidable. but!! it's still cool? idk.

i sorta can't believe we're getting another wii sports? the aesthetics looked hideous at first but i'm warming up to them. idk i think the series was always rly good, tho it'll be hard to justify spending $60 or even $30 on it. regardless, it's another cute game to play w family n drunk friends etc.

getsufumaden looks like it could be neat if it wasn't bein made by konami. assuming this is like a mobile game on console. also i think this was announced earlier? idk i just wanted to mention it.

the metroid dread update... i wanna pay respect to it. even tho i honestly couldn't give a single shit about an edgelord tryhard mode? i think it's a neat idea to include it alongside a "beginner mode". this is how you do it!! it pleases everybody. to anyone saying "why?" like just this isn't FOR you. it's so that everybody can play no matter how casual or deranged. i wanna see more of this kinda stuff. a great way to address the like single complaint about the new metroid. bravo.

earthbound. listen. it's awesome. including mother 1 too is also awesome. should this have already been part of the service a while ago? yes obviously. is this one of those "only exciting because nintendo is so witholding so our standards are in the dirt"? most definitely. but it's still cool. for some reason nintendo neglects mother, much in the same way square neglects chrono. it's another one of the best snes (and nes) games ever made that was weirdly missing from the collection, so i'm glad it's finally here.

ok last game i cared about (and no it isnt xenoblade, even tho that series is obv cool i'm just not invested yet): mario kart. and i GET why some people are complainin that it's just dlc. i really understand... in theory. because u know what? i felt the same way about smash ultimate at first. i was like "what the fuck this is just dlc for an old game so why aren't they actually making a full NEW game instead???

but smash u ended up being one of my fav games ever. it was really cool to have such a massive amount of content in a single, solid game engine. and that's more what this feels like. AND it's only $25 instead of $60. i mean it's like 50 new goddamn tracks. that's silly. and awesome. i needed an excuse to go back and play more mario kart anyhow. i'm super happy about this tbh.

i think the only real critique i have is that we won't get the last mk dlc until 2023? stretchin it out much??? nintendo kinda has fallen completely into the "online service" method of release and i genuinely hate that (like why is wii sports getting golf way later just finish the game idiots)... but besides that? good direct. great direct. way better than it shoulda been considering they once again didn't show ANY info on zelda lol. we... we aren't gonna get that game until like 2023 huh. 😅

general tsao. and LeFwee. they just irritated me. they're probably the least likeable of all the villains. they are just bad cuz they suck. the other villains have a reason and a background and character and are just far more likeable.

Favorite Ship:

Sly x Carmelita of course uwu. its a classic. Bentley x Penelope as a close second of course.

tho i am interested in other ships too! like i prefer the main gang (sly, bentley, murray) as family but they'd be interesting as a romantic couple too! sly and neyla and sly and penelope are fun too. like in both cases they didnt happen for obvious reasons but i like to think on how those relationships would have played out if they worked out.

the cooper gang of course. i'm talking the main three but also i like the friendships between the other members that are added to the gang in 3. like murray and penelope had a cute little friendship i think. and i like to see the main 3 interacting with other characters besides each other.

arpeggio. not cuz it made me cry or anything but like. how unfair it was. he didn't deserve that :(

otherwise i cant think of another death that bothered me. the majority of the deaths in the game are often well deserved or happen to charcters (like sly's dad) that we never got to form a bond with so.

This Made Me So Happy You Have No Idea Moment:

I really love the ending for sly 3. Like I would have loved a new game in the series cuz I love these characters and their stories but I'm also completely fine if it just ended like it did with the 3rd game. It's a happy resolution to me. I just thought sly giving up like, pretty much everything, to be with Carmelita was so sweet. And I like that Bentley and Murray know that this is something sly has wanted for some time so they are just happy for him and Carmelita.

I also believe that Carmelita knew sly was faking his amnesia. They've known each other for so long I think they can sorta figure out when one is lying or not. And Carmelita sounds too happy and too eager for sly to just have amnesia all of a sudden. because even tho it's not spoken between the two, they know he is just using it as an excuse so they can finally be together. And then sly 4 ruined it. :)

Saddest Moment:

Probably the ending to sly 2 and sly 3. They are both kinda bittersweet endings I think but thats what I like about them.

Favorite Location:

Aw jeez. I don't really have a favorite location for 1 like they are all nice levels but that's it for me. For 2 I would have to say the first level Paris and then rajan's ball, along with the Canadian levels cuz they are just so damn pretty and I like ice and stuff. I'm a northerner I love that snowy cold as fuck shit it feels like home. The other levels are cool too (especially arpeggios blimp that's fucking poggers) but they don't arent my most favorite like the ones I first listed. As for 3 I love Venice. It's just so pretty and I love the music and I just think it's a great first episode for the series. Other than that probably the cooper vault. Like not the entirety of Kane island just the inside of the vault that is so much fun dudes.

These are so cute! Okay let’s go one at a time:

Probably about 95% of the time I’m just drinking water because I'm boring, but it does have to be iced water. I used to have a dispenser in my fridge that measured ounces and it always had to be an even number when I filled a cup or bottle - I don’t have it anymore lol. The other 5% is usually juice or something because I’m a 23 year old toddler, apple is my favorite. And I’m a sucker for a peppermint hot chocolate when it’s cold out. I only get really super specific when it comes to cocktails, which I rarely have anyway, because I'm particular about flavors, amount of alcohol, and I prefer something sweet that’s easy to sip. That shit's expensive, so I might as well invest in something I actually enjoy drinking, y'know?

I don’t know if my music taste is good but I assume it’s probably not haha. I mostly listen to music when I’m writing, a topic I go in a little more depth in this post. The kind of stuff I listen to for focus. But casual listening like when I’m doing chores or working out or something, I lean heavy in classic rock and indie bands (think the Strokes, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, etc.). My friends have introduced me to a lot of great music since I went to college, mostly newer soft rock or indie alternative stuff I probably never would have looked into like Peach Pit or Mitski. Not very into music with super high energy or intense volume - so generally not pop, heavy metal, techno, etc. I’m pretty chill, my music taste reflects that I think? I do not consider myself very musically literate, but I know what I like.

The last one is absolutely correct, I get the most random topics that pop up in my head. When my roommates and I were in dorms (before we got an apartment and finally had our own rooms), three of us were piled into one tiny room with a bunk bed and a loft. I used to just throw out random topics all the time in the middle of the night and we’d go on for hours with the twinkle lights and chill music in the background. Stuff as big as artificial intelligence (which terrifies me to my core) to favorite obscure movies or the origins of certain words to friendship ending debates about the best Mario Kart avatar - it's Toad btw, fight me. I think part of it is having a writer’s brain, I get curious about so many different topics or plots or world altering ideas. I think it annoys them sometimes but they almost always humor me lol! I’m lucky to have them :) I’m generally a pretty quiet person, but if you let me go on a rant, it could last hours!

I used to play Sims but honestly I feel like I never wanted to actually play it, I just wanted to create them and their houses, but living their lives was too tiring and boring. yes right now I'm pretty fixated on acnh, back then I used to play super mario 3D land on my DS, was times. but yes I really enjoy the customizing and designing the island part of acnh, I'd honestly like to play more on my switch but since games are expensive, I haven't really bought any others bc I haven't found one that was worth it yet. I really wish I was more of a pokemon person. I wanna play more pokemon games, I wanna be, THE VERY BE- I have Pokemon, sword I think? bc my friend gave it to me, but haven't played a lot.

I gotta say I was always bad with defining music genres bc, I have no idea. but I guess mainly it's (Indie/alt) pop/rock, rap is really enjoyable actually, don't have a lot of it I listen to but also as someone into poetry. but I'm also one of those people that's like "I listen to it if I like it". basically I really love e-guitars, bass, and violins. I like dramatic emotional music, sad but loud songs, yes. I really love the 80's sound tho, that is kinda how I wish how people perceive me. movie soundtrack is fire too. and actually, since I'm in general just a fan of art with words and good rythm, like musical kinda songs are really nice, and I wish I could sing more like that.

2010's music is like, my nostalgic childhood music. I do listen to Girl in Red and Ricky Montgomery too, latter I really like for singing too. (and Shawn Mendes. Idk but singing-wise I go off at Shawn Mendes)

EVERYTHING is recommended other than the above movie which is his best imo, but other than that, unforgiven, the bridges of madison county, million dollar baby, gran torino, bird and mystic river are masterpieces but if you love yourself watch the iwo jima movies both flags of our fathers and letters from iwo jima, and when it comes to good shit starring eastwood that he didn’t direct, ALL THE LEONE MOVIES HE MADE WITH HIM ALL OF THEM, plus the don siegel ones - dirty harry and the beguiled (ESPECIALLY THE BEGUILED) are gems okay. yes, dirty harry is a gem for its genre fight me.

john ford: guys ford was a genius okay i love everything he chose to do even if I didn’t agree with his politics I guess, but anyway, other than liberty valance: STAGECOACH (TOTAL MASTERPIECE I WILL FIC ONE DAY), the searchers, the last hurrah, THE GRAPES OF WRATH (PLS WATCH THE GRAPES OF WRATH) and the quiet man.

akira kurosawa: kurosawa is The Best, no like The Best, and prob. your best choice if you want to try out japanese film because he has a very approachable style - my fave’s rashomon because I’m obvious and not original, but other recommendation are seven samurai, ran, throne of blood, the hidden fortress (which was taken as an inspiration for star wars too!), the lower depths, YOJIMBO and sanjuro (its sequel) and also drunken angel, and ikiru. lOVE YOURSELF WATCH KUROSAWA

But my crime is that in 1995 The Hit Game(tm) Super Mario Rpg got a lot of neat merch (for the time) and bc that's most classic gamers' favorite Mario game any and all merch for the game is INCREDIBLY rare.

One of the most sought after pieces of Princess Peach specific merch is this keychain that was in a Mario RPG set- rare for THREE reasons

Merch of her in her classic (pre mario sunshine/mario party 4) dress is rare by default

Its mario rpg everyone's favorite game of the older franchise (geno 4 smash!!! Pls....)

Peach is one of the rarest listed ones of almost every set no matter what??? Idk why honestly...

So this is very rare and when it is listed its usually around $100-200... I know, I know, 200 for a 2 inch keychain sounds insane but as I said, it's like crazy rare!

But most importantly: SHE'S BABY

So no, I did not drop 100 - 200 on a 2 inch very adorable super sought after keychain. I dropped $40, which is more than I paid for my rarest peach figure and less than I paid for my very rare htf peach plushie (which everyone knows I dropped on bc of sentimental reasons, so not 100% collection crimes).

That's not very bad at all, most Zeldas in my collection (I do collect princess zelda too lol) were around $40. Except I'm in a terrible situation atm and who knows if I'm going to be able to like support myself like it was REALLY STUPID and I also feel really guilty buying frivolous stuff over $15 bc I always feel like i should have donated that money to donation posts or that I shouldn't have spent it period... I know it's good to treat yourself but tbh I rlly shouldn't have. Especially bc my hours at work have gotten a buzzcut.

I dont feel all bad tho, because I am in such a bad mental place rn that I cant go out in public without feeling afraid and paranoid so I do deserve some comfort... but I still feel a lot bad. But phhhft, what's done is done and i will soon be welcoming another girl into my well loved and taken care of collection.

All the peaches in my collection are well taken care of but I'm not using gloves when handling or keeping them out of reach, never to be played with like a serious soulless collector. I love all of them and I talk to them when I'm anxious and alone and hold them when I cry so I kind of consider them family? In a sense? At the end of the day, my peaches (and liquids... and Zeldas, tho all Zeldas are currently not here) are there to comfort me when ppl aren't.... so I shouldn't feel bad for kidnapping another princess. It's just how I've been feeling in general lately :(
