Artist friends looking for a fun and cute way to make a little extra money from their art, and non-artist friends who enjoy cute art and collecting-- have you heard the good news about NeonMob!
NeonMob is a site where artists can make collectible "trading cards" out of their art. Here's a link to my collection to get an idea of what sets can look like-- some people have sets that are just "my sketchbook," but there are a lot of sets that are themed around a specific idea, like animal-shaped foods, spooky little critters, witches, mermaids, dragons, plantlife, landscapes, abstract paintings with a vaguely cyberpunk vibe, original characters from a specific project, etc. etc. etc.!
Every day you get a certain number of free pulls to divvy up how you like between sets, and you can freely trade cards with other members to more quickly complete sets without having to fully rely on RNG. Alongside free pulls, there are extra pulls that you can get with either free in-game currency (carats) that are earned simply by playing the game and accomplishing milestones, or paid in-game currency (credits).
This is how artists get money from NeonMob, as they get a percentage of the real dollars that go towards all credit pulls from their sets!
(It is btw 100% realistic to play the game without ever spending a dime since the daily pulls and trading mechanic mean that you will eventually be able to get That Adorable Card You Want To Complete This Set even if you stick to free pulls and carats, but! Unlike your average anime-based gatcha game, when/if you do throw a little cash towards in-game credits, it's nice to know that it's going towards supporting small artists whose art you enjoy.)
NOTE: Because artists can get paid for their art on NeonMob, fandom-based art is only allowed if it's sufficiently transformative (so "here's a bunch of pokemon redesigned as alpacas" is fine, but "here's cute picture #5345 of my blorbos kissing" isn't,) and AI art is not allowed at all. (You may see older AI sets on the site from before management at NeonMob changed hands, but current management is firm about disqualifying AI sets and other art thieves that try to sneak past the rules!)
Happy playing! Anyone who ends up joining, feel free to send me a friend request, and I'm happy to answer any questions about trading norms/etiquette etc. etc.
