On the subject of tucks, who wants one of my favorite serger techniques: serged pintucks.
Tumblr media
Sorry for no progress pictures. I did this today at work, but I'll take some pictures if someone needs them.
You set your serger for a rolled hem (this is a 2-thread), disengage your blade, and then fold the fabric and serge along the fold.
Here I used 40wt rayon embroidery thread for the green tucks, and metallic embroidery thread for the gold one. I did the alternating colors by having two sergers set up with different colors (hey, I work in a sewing machine store. I'm going to take advantage of that).
I've been told that you can do a 3-thread with one of each color in the looper, and then alternate which looper has the high tension, but I don't think you'd get quite as clean a look.

When you press the fabric and get all the tucks to lay in one direction, it looks a little more like this.
Unfortunately, I don't currently have any non-bear pictures of this technique.
This is another one where you don't see it done too often in commercial lolita, but that doesn't mean it's not a technique that could be used. A lot of handmade lolita it about finding the right balance of texture and scale, and a few of these near the bottom of a skirt to highlight a nice lace could add some pretty good texture.
