Sorry for the advice you didn't ask for, but if you're strugfling with pulls and REALLY can't decide between the two, Grim might not have a rerun (because as far as I remember, his platinum card didn't, but maybe it was because it was a one time thing) and Silver might (I think all the dream cards did?? I can't imagine they wouldn't but who knows.) These aren't good arguments but honestly the main thing is which card you would be MOST upset about missing. Which is probably both, but something I do is pretend like I'm going to take advice from someone. Then when they pick, I change and try to think of whether I'm disappointed or not. And if you can't tell, try the other way and compare the level of disappointment. Sorry if this is confusing and unneeded, I just feel strongly for other ftp people 😭 Of course there's always the option of sacrificing another device's storage to make an an account and wait like a year. lol. I mean atp it's not a bad idea I think?? Anyway I wish you tremendous luck and also transfer all of mine to you 🙏🙏🙏

thank you, I think I did ultimately need to just...sit down and figure out which one my heart was calling to! as the saying goes, flip a coin and you'll know which outcome you want before it lands. 🤷 (I'm pretty sure Blazin' Hot Grim will get a rerun though next year! they were very upfront about Platinum Grim being a one-time only thing for the 100th anniversary, so the fact that they didn't say anything like that this time makes me think we'll get another chance at him eventually!)

BATMAN AND ROBIN (2023) #14 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Javier Fernandez! rambling about the new team and arc!! a jumping-on point for anyone wanting to read recent Bruce and Damian comics 🦇🐥

setting the stage with action!! mystery and intrigue!! expectations for further character exploration for Damian!!

if that's not enough to pique interest, here's a rendition of one of the many cute grumpy Damian panels

first of all THE OPENING ACTION SCENE OH MY GOD (this splash page hello!!)

i love...the collaborative effort in comics...it shines through right from the start, especially when it involves traditional inks 😭

using this single panel as an example from Fernandez’s ig:

Fernandez lays out most of the groundwork in his inks - the fully inked silhouette of the driver in the foreground, the shading suggesting the lighting, the white ink/paint lined and splattered for the rain!!

then off to colors with Marcelo Maiolo!! he elevates the panel to emphasize how it's a shot from within the vehicle looking out the windshield - the lightly tinted inks, the bright lighting from headlights, and the slight window sheen + bokeh!!

one more similar example, with comparison by the man himself - Fernandez already implying the glare, scraping white against Batman and Robin's silhouettes. then punched up with Maiolo's colors/lighting!! WOW!!

OKAY SORRY ONE MORE along with Steve Wands’ consistently lovely lettering, Fernandez included his own sfx in his inks of this page!! not sure how often he does it past this, but SO cool!! ever since seeing Juni Ba's sfx lettering in his inks, it's such a sick extra detail to me 😭

ANYWAY i can go on about what i love about each panel for this scene but gotta move on from the explosive intro of Batman and Robin to the more grounded side of Bruce and Damian (which ends up being just as explosive)!! 🥺

there's small details carrying over from Williamson's run like Bruce making Damian vegan meals and Damian creating comics; otherwise, we have a much more engaging writing of the two almost reminiscent to Tomasi and Gleason's run!

one example being his attitude towards a fancy event interrupting his and Dick's patrol in Batman and Robin (2009) #20

the first line from Bruce and Damian's disregard for a fundraising event is a bit of head scratcher to me when Damian is plenty compassionate, BUT for the sake of a jumping-on arc for new readers it’s a clear point of reference for Damian’s character - a kid who believes more in Batman and Robin work than what could be done outside of those masks. it becomes a matter of how Damian's perspective might change around this subject and how he'll take action in helping outside of Robin 🤔

another similar Tomasi-esque moment is Damian's snark about his grandfather lol, a sentiment that carries over from Batman and Robin (2011) #1

PKJ references his Ra's al Ghul story from Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant! especially curious when the final line by Talia is "...you will see my father again", when Ra's is currently dead. a fun lil callback or also a convenient nod to future plans? 👀

NOW THE MYSTERY AND INTRIGUE OF IT ALL...

Bruce's attention is caught by this man shouting "You sit atop the wheel" which i'm guessing is in reference to the Wheel of Fortune, especially if we're going by a literal interpretation of the rich and poor (depicting the group among tents and carts).

i'm really reaching here, but wondering if Bruce calling himself “Jack” at some point is also related to the arcana. the only relation i could find is the Page of Wands, and the Jack once being referred to as a "knave"

EDIT: an anon reached out to inform me that Bruce called himself “Jack” during his training! seems to be first introduced in Batman: The Knight (2022) #4

THE REVEAL OF THE NEW VILLAIN, MEMENTO...the first page opens on a deceased person's face, and the last dialogue is "We will see your face again." AND OH BOY WE CERTAINLY DO! 😭

the flames casting a harsh light against the plaster (or stone??) of Memento's mask, and how he looms over Bruce...SO EERIE...

FINAL RAMBLY THOUGHTS

Damian being colored with noticeable melanin...🥺 i can only assume this was a deliberate choice made by PKJ since the editors haven't changed, and for the past issues Damian's colors have been independent to the colorists - the only edit being after Rex Lokus gave him green eyes in #5 but were returned to blue in #6 (for consistency ig). along with the classic teen asian haircut, this feels intentional on PKJ's part and i hope Damian will continue to be colored brown here and other books 🥺👉👈

one of the things PKJ teased in an interview was the idea of Damian wondering if he even wants to still be Robin, much less Batman (begging this is where main canon Damian gives the Batman mantle up lol). so presenting Damian here as someone absorbed in that life makes me wonder what triggers those thoughts - is it going to be this incident or later? more currently, will Damian be able to protect the civilians that Bruce entrusted him with? especially after getting familiar with a few, however reluctantly?

anyway, a banger first issue that leaves you with just enough crumbs to know what you're expecting but still beg for more: what's the mysterious new group/villain, and their connection to Bruce? will Dr. Bashar and the Wayne grandparents have more to do with the story? how will this all affect Damian outside of being Robin? Talia and Ra’s?? so many questions!!

Watching Sam & Brennan talk about the beauty of frivolity, of adults playing silly games just as seriously as they fight to survive, and... yeah. There are some things that keep us alive, and there are some things that make life worth living, and I think games are one of those things that fall into both categories. Games make our lives better and they make us better at being alive. I think that's pretty cool.

Wait...Would You Fall in Love with Me Again but dnb. Like immortal (Techno) and the same soul in every reincarnation? (Dream) orrrr dsmp lore and Techno sees the differences in Dream before and after the prison arc ("I am not the man you fell in love with") because angst is cool :)

It's in the works - Idk how you knew but it's in the works. I've got two scenes fleshed out but yeah. Have some storyboards in the mean time. There's some lore I've been thinking about in regards to the AU (because I can't actually show all of this) but - I was thinking Season 2 DSMP. DreamXD has memory wiped everyone, including the people taken by Lady Death, but it's less of a total memory wipe, and more of a block. (Tis the condition to come back onto the sever). So people remember each other, and they're all familiar with the server, but context for everything has been removed. So scars and stuff stayed and people still have vague ideas of where they stand with one another, ie. c!Q is on friendly terms with everyone but no one seems to be able to fully trust him. Bring in c!Dream, who's memories stayed, because DreamXD can't let a man catch a break. He has the powers to unlock the memories of the people he encounters, he just has to remind them of who he is and what happened previously (still deciding if it's a phrase or an actual spell). So he has the choice of either allowing everyone to move on, and start their lives anew (with only him suffering with their past mistakes/choices/knowledge) or have them remember and have to deal with the fallout. So in this Techno and Dream are married, have been married a while, and while Techno and the rest of the Syndicate were able to escape before everything blew up, the memory wipe made it so that Techno knows he's married, knows who he's married to, but has no idea where Dream is, and anything that happened to them previously. Techno has this feeling that Dream is in trouble, but no idea how, and the server is no help because while not outright hostile to him, they seem ambivalent to him and Dream.

So to the "Would you fall in love with me again" - Dream finally returns and decides to give Techno his memories back, so that Techno can make the choice of where they stand and if he wants to stay together with Dream, a Dream who is different, changed, broken.

I could wax on for many, many posts about The Case for Crystal Palace and the amazing chemistry we see between Edwin (George) and Charles (Jayden). But for now, allow me to wax on about this scene.

They are having an emergency meeting in their non-soundproof closet (Guys. Crystal can hear every word.). We know how much Edwin cherishes the agency, cherishes Charles. We just saw an entire montage showing how well they work together, a synchronization formed over decades of working side by side. They're a well oiled machine. Partners. Best mates. And, *insert record break scratch*, change is afoot. There's a live human girl in their office. Edwin's sharp eyes have clocked the way Charles looks at her, and his fists clench at the suggestion that a *human girl* could join their Dead Boys Detective Agency. It threatens EVERYTHING they have painstakingly built over the last thirty years.

There's not even a client! And certainly, they wouldn't allow a kidnapped human child to be their client. That is, to put it simply, not how they work, despite how insistent Crystal is acting as she flings open the closet door and barrages him with opinions that most assuredly do not matter. But then, Charles gives him *that look*. The one where earnestness sparkles in his chestnut colored eyes.

And he says, "Oh, come on, Edwin! Wouldn't it be good to get out of town for a bit?"

And he adds, voice dropping an octave, "...what with Death being in our office so recently."

And the proverbial nail in the coffin, "...and besides. You're really going to let a little American girl die?"

Ah, checkmate.

Edwin sighs, eyes closed in defeat. Charles grins like the Cheshire Cat that he is.

Because, how can he say no to that?
