So ive decided to restart my Pikmin playthrough in favor of moving it to my Desktop rather than have it on my laptop.

So, i will be playing Pikmin 1 on GameCube via legitament means, why not choose the Wii Version? Well, mainly because im unsure as to how to properly connect the Wii Remote to the PC and do all the things necessary, but also because i'd rather not exert myself in trying to figure all that out tbh. But i do know that Pikmin's Wii version has some QoL improvements such as being able to switch color pikmin on the move. I also do understand the Switch version is cheaper but... iunno.

However, besides all that, back to the main topic at hand, i have a battle strategy as to how to approach the game now.

Day 1

Obtain enough Red Pikmin that are obtainable, then complete the tutorial.

Day 2

Go to The Forest's Navel and get the Yellow Pikmin, but also amass enough Red Pikmin using the red pellets and smallest bulborbs nearby the Red Onion.

Once having reached a sufficent amount, fight the biggest bulborbs but also open the passage to the Yellow Onion.

Fight the final big Bulborb then approach Yellow Onion to obtain my first Yellow Pikmin.

Then amass enough yellow Pikmin to pick up the defeated Bulborbs to feed to the Onion to amass a sufficent amount of Yellow Pikmin.

Day 3

Resume exploration at Forest of Hope.

Perform demolitions with the Yellow Pikmins and obtain the Extraordinary Bolt (to gain access to Forest's Navel for Blue Pikmin) & Radar (for being able to see Treasure on the Map).

Day 2 might mesh into Day 3 depending upon how Day 2 goes considering its 13:30 per day.

And hopefully by Day 4, i will be able to get Blue Pikmin at the Forest Navel, which will open access to the rest of the areas in Forest of Hope.

Day 4

Be at Forest's Navel and do all the things i can do with Blue Pikmin's, although mainly probably just amassing Blues.

Day 5

Return to Forest of Hope to obtain the rest of the items that are there now using the Blue Pikmin.

Granted, i dont spend Day 5 in Forest's Navel again if there are things that are interesting there (like ship parts). Or if I had lost a bunch of Blue Pikmin and i wanted to replenish my troops.

Summary

It may be a bit messy, i might lose a few Pikmin, honestly i might mess up horribly, but what i do know is that there are only 3 Pikmin Types to obtain, and once i have access to all of them, im pretty much open to explore and collect the ship components i need. I also have 5 to 6 hours to complete the game because its a very short game but with lots of replayability. I want to get all the ship parts and aid the Pikmin in surviving.

Something else i want to do is save the second ship part thats at the Impact Site for last, if thats an option.

I know there are:

2 Ship Parts at Impact Site (First is obtained for the Tutorial)

8 Ship Parts at The Forest of Hope (Some are locked off and can only be accessed with Blue Pikmin, but Extraordinary Bolt & Radar, mainly Extraordinary Bolt, as it grants me access to Forest Navel which then lets me obtain Blue Pikmin)

9 Ship Parts at The Forest's Navel (from what i recall seeing on Day 6 there, was a lot of those Flamethrower Creatures, whifh means ill most likely need Red Pikmin with me as i do reconnaissance and then some mushroom creature, which i think is very bad news for my Pikmin if i am not careful).

So if anything, that means there is 17 Ship Parts to collect in total for the first two exploration areas. Which likely means I'll probably be spending quite some time there before i go anywhere else.

Anyway, i now conclude this blog with this.

I dont know where i got this, i think it was from the pikmin subreddit. Regardless, i found it very silly, and i just love animation intended for humanoid models applied to models that are not of the humanoid shape.

ADDENDUM (updated at 12:06 PM 9/5/2024)

If i am unsuccessful with Day 2 in obtaining enough Yellow Pikmin and i go into Day 3 with not enough Y. Pikmin, i will most likely instead perform a B-Line for the Extraordinary Bolt instead and save the Radar for later if i have enough time to do so. As Bulborb's are weak in the back, i will need to be "stealthy" in my approach and hope i do not lose all too much pikmin on Day 2 nor spend too much running back and forth to amass more Pikmin/replenish Pikmin lost in battle.

I think the only "time wasters" that are to be concerned about are losing Pikmin while tackling Bulborbs & the Walls that you have to break down with sheer numbers and the bomb walls, which sometimes just take a lot of bombs to bust down which is sorta annoying.

Update

So recently I've been fleshing out the beginning of the story. I've got everything down up to actually meeting Dorian- after that it gets a bit more confusing because everything branches out from there.

I've also made a sprite for one of the other characters, Layla. Although it's a stand-in for now.

I won't change her final design much- Just clean up her sprite- animate the eyes- and make the facial expressions into separate facial features like Dorians.

Talking about Dorian- I just finished re-working the code for his sprite so it's easier for me to work with.

Another thing that I've got sorted is the naming and pronouns. Before starting a new save you'll get a screen that asks you to choose Aiden's and Dorian's names and pronouns.

You can also now build opinions on other characters in the game. For example, When you first get into the college classroom Layla will talk to Aiden. If you decide that Aiden finds her annoying, then they will make sure not to sit near her later.

I've also added in some personality metres. Right now there are three: openness, kindness, and secrecy. Depending on the choices you make Aiden will change. If you make more introverted choices then their openness will lower. Rude choices lowers kindness, and choosing to tell people about specific things lowers secrecy. And vice versa (extraverted choices heightens openness, being nice heightens kindness, being secretive heightens secrecy.) These will affect how Aiden acts outside of your choices- and if certain ones are high or low enough- it might take away your choice all together.

Don't want to tell someone that you broke into Dorian's house? well too bad. Your secrecy is at 0, now Aiden's gone and told Layla without letting you choose and Layla is freaked out and wondering if she should report it.

I've also been developing some minigames and I figured that not everyone want's to play minigames, especially when some of them will be purposefully hard and non-replayable. So I figured that I'll either make some settings to toggle specific minigames on and off, or have a totally separate game mode without the minigames.

This does raise the question of how to decide the outcome- with some I can replace them with a few choice menus- for instance I'm working on a point-and-click one where you go though Dorians room while they're out- this could easily be replaced with a a few choices saying things like 'look in drawers' 'check computer' ect. ect. However more in depth minigames will be harder to replace. I'll have to think on this more and come up with a solution when I get to this.

That's all for what I've actually worked on- but I do have some ideas that I've been thinking about adding.

Firstly: Would it be fun if some scenes were randomised? I'll take a scene from the prologue for example:

Aiden bumps into Dorian, Dori falls over but quickly gets back up and leaves- You choose if Aiden thinks they were rude, cool, or if they don't care- Then they see that Dorian dropped a paper and you can decide to give it back, leave it. or take it.

I was thinking- I could make it so that there's a 50/50 chance on how Dorian will act when given the paper. They could either act polite, or rude.

I definitely like the idea although I'm not sold on it. Unlike the minigames it's not something that I would be able to make a setting to turn it off with as I wouldn't have a means of deciding which scene to have play. There will also already be scenes that change based on existing factors- for example, if Layla knows that Aiden doesn't like her then she won't be nice, but if she either doesn't know that, or they're friends, then she will be. However there are some things that wouldn't make sense to base on things like that, going back to the example with Dorian- what would that be based on? Either way, I think its and interesting idea that I'd like try out.

The other idea that I had was having a separate story where Dorian is stalking Aiden instead- of course this is a far future idea as I'll have to finish the main game before thinking about extending it. You would still play as Aiden and would still have the choice of stalking Dori or not.

Hey anon! This is an interesting premise. I assume you mean one of the already existing characters of the cast for this? If so, I went with Kirumi because how interesting would it be if their fate was changed? Also, it was an interesting dynamic to explore. "Your motive, the person waiting for you back home is... nobody!"

Ryoma Hoshi knew that wasn't true. This motive video simply lied. For days now, he had been agonizing over someone very dear to him: Kirumi Tojo, the Ultimate Maid. She was his sweetheart, the one bright light in the darkness.

She wasn't supposed to be here. During his time in prison, Ryoma was told she died in an accident. It was a cruel, brutal truth that added onto his nihilistic worldview. And yet, here she was, in the flesh. Even stranger though was the fact she seemed to forget all about him!

At first Ryoma figured this must be his punishment. Not only being forced into a killing game, but making his lost love a contestant... without her even realizing it. But that video, just after the sorrowful demise of Kaede, had strengthened his resolve to live. He needed her to remember, even just a little.

"This food reminds me of the good old days," said Ryoma. He had always loved Kirumi's cooking.

"I'm glad to hear you liked it, Hoshi. Shall I prepare more tomorrow?" She responded cordially, with no hint of remembrance.

He shook his head, sadly. "No, that's fine. Say, why don't we take a walk?" He was desperate for any time with her, any hope.

"Well, I don't see why not. We're the last ones here anyway," She finished putting away the food and dishes and waited for him. The two began their walk outside the school, in the crisp evening air.

"So do you remember anything before this mess, Kirumi? I can think of my everyday life, but not all of us seem to." A good question, which would hopefully lead somewhere.

"Hmm... well, I can remember my job, and my clients. Then again, that is my life, even now."

Nothing. "What about friends or family? A boyfriend back home?"

"Oh dear. Well, I'm sure my family is fine, and I don't have many friends. I've never had a boyfriend-- I'm much to busy for that." That stung Hoshi, but it wasn't her fault. The two continued their walk, politely talking like strangers before going to bed. He seemed to be out of luck.

It occured to him that, while he doesn't know what to do, others might-- so the next morning he slid a note under Shuichi's door. It simply read:

"I'd like your advice on something. Meet me in the courtyard at 8."

Surprisingly, he complied. To be fair it was morning, in bright daylight and clear view, so it couldn't be a setup. Ryoma explained the predicament to the detective, expecting him to be doubtful.

"Well... this is tough. But, I'd try jotting her memory by doing something she really loved with you-- that might spark something." It was actually a sound theory!

"Wait, you believe me? I didn't think anyone would."

"Kaede told us to believe in each other, and be good friends in her absence. Helping you would make her happy, I'll bet..." Shuichi had a melancholy expression. "Plus, if I can help you save what I couldn't, it'd be nice."

After parting ways with Shuichi, the prisoner had to think: what would be a core memory to Kirumi? So many happy days to choose from, all perfect in their own way.

Then, it hit him. He had sworn it off since prison and her absence, but this would be the key to her memories...

"Hey, Kirumi. If you're free, I'd love to play a match with you. I'm itching to use my new lab and all, so..."

She found herself weirdly enthusiastic. After saying yes, she met Ryoma upstairs to play some tennis. He'd changed out of his dreary outfit into an actual uniform, and offered Kirumi a racket.

"I'll go easy on you, if you want." He meant it teasingly, just like the first time.

"No need, Hoshi. My athletic prowess is quite good actually!" She took the racket and the game began.

It was a spirited match. Kirumi wasn't lying when she said she was athletic, so even without tennis skills she was holding her own. Ryoma of course had the lead, but the feeling in the court was electric. The two played for hours, losing track of the time, when a little disruption came in.

"Ooh, a tennis ball! You two mind if I take this?" Kokichi appeared out of thin air and snatched their ball. Before they could protest, he was gone! The pair were dumbfounded, and all they could do was laugh.

"That hooligan! I'll get our ball back later," She laughed, having enjoyed the moment.

"It's no big deal, I've got so many of them in here that I'll let him have it," Hoshi replied.

"Funnily enough, this reminds me of something..." deep thought was etched on Kirumi's face. "Once I was playing tennis at a park, and a dog caught the ball and ran off."

That's it! Ryoma felt so much joy as he waited for her to continue.

"The person I was playing with didn't mind it, we laughed like today... just like today, actually." The realization finally came. "Wait a moment... Ryoma?"

Tears came flooding in for both of them. He moved in for an embrace, which she reciprocated. "Do you remember now, honey?"

She began to sob as the days with her boyfriend became clear again. "Yes, it's slowly coming back to me... how could I ever forget you?"

The two stayed there for a long while, making up for lost time.
